Being a preternatural princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I’ve been unceremoniously yanked home to the Queen’s court during my last year of university.
But I’m not going home to Avalon empty handed, I’m bringing a secret—my new vampire fiancé.
Not to be outdone, the Queen has a little surprise of her own—a 6'5" dragon shifter named Ashton Mountcastle. He’s submitted a marriage contract to unite our royal families and the Queen has accepted on my behalf.
The bottom line—I’m being forced into a marriage I don’t want.
With limited time to get out of this mess, I’m going to outplay, outsmart and outlast Ash. No matter what.
Ash might think this royal marriage is a done deal, but he’s about to learn princesses play by their own rules.
♥ If you’re 18+ and like a princess who won’t go down without a fight, a dragon shifter with touch-her-and-die energy, and a slow burn to high heat steamy love story, then check out Power Hungry, the first book in The Queen’s Court series.
♥ Author’s note: Power Hungry is an angsty new adult romance with a coming-of-age storyline. This paranormal romantasy has a love triangle, ends on a cliffhanger and is a cozy afternoon escape.
Content warning: there are mentions of past sexual trauma, which may be triggering to some.
Wanda Swan is an Amazon #1 bestselling author of fantasy romance where love and passion meet murder and mayhem. She pits imperfect heroines against the odds where they must combat internal demons and external chaos to find themselves, their perfect match, and their happily ever after!
1 painfully sad star that I’m only giving out to congratulate the author on simply completing a story.
When I originally added this to my TBR, it had higher ratings. It had been added to my Kindle queue to read later, which I did, but when I came back to GRs after only 10%, I realized how dramatically the ratings had dropped. I thought ‘Well, THATS ominous but who knows? Paranormal/Shifter readers can be picky’. I gave it a chance. I trudged on, enduring the pain and I honestly did finish the book but I hate myself for not DNFing.
Overall a waste of time. The premise held shaky promise, clearly because it intrigued me, but that’s the only thing that was good. The plot, characters and overall vibe were CHOPPY, JUVENILE and PREDICTABLE. The formatting & writing felt more like an outline and lacked substance. I’m shocked this is a SERIES. It earned its low star rating, proceed with caution.
Some of the tropes: •Enemies to lovers •Forced proximity •Arranged marriage
Im so thankful the author reached out to me about this amazing book! Im a sucker for a good dark fantasy romance and this was everything i needed in my life!!! First chapter and i was instantly hooked i loved how she brought our world into these books along with there universe. This book takes you into the world of Avalon and on the journey we get to encounter dragons, vampires, sirens and higher anarchy’s.
Nina is such a hard headed female character but towards the end she finally opens up to the possibilities of what could make her happy! Don't wait any longer this book is a must read i loved every second
Data dump of a world build. I really disliked main female character. Very hard to empathize with her child like world view. More of a 15 year old mind set than mid 20s. And what kind of guardians allow a mind control mark to stay on a person? No matter how much she protests. Its mind control. Just dumb.
The author’s writing style and tone is pleasantly readable, unlike many book from stuff your kindle day. I really wanted to love this book, but I cannot stand how the main character does everything she says she doesn’t want to do. As the story progresses, Ash becomes increasingly worse as a person until he is unredeemable to me.
Princess Seraphina prefers to hang out on the human planes over her court and is only a month off finishing her degree with the humans when she is summoned home by the Queen. Unfortunately, the Queen has accepted a marriage contract on her behalf. 😕 The Princess has NO desire to see this contract through as she is in love with a vampire and wants to marry him instead 💅 The Princess (Nina) and her group of advisors (who are sirens and her closest friends) look tor some way to make this contract void. But can the dragon shifter behind the marriage contract win her over? Because someone in this has an ulterior motive...
I really enjoyed this cozy fantasy story, always wondering who to cheer for 😅 I must say the virgiñiťy check had me 😶😲🙈
I jumped straight into book 2 and when I said I was screaming at the ending, I wasn't joking because something was revealed at the end of book 2 that I've never come across in a shifter book before and it is SO COOL. Very clever 🤩
A brand new author, especially to me. Blame TikTok for all these wonderful reading materials. Power hungry gives us Fae, Dragon, Vampires and sirens. The queen arranges a marriage to Mountcastle royals. Ash and Seraphina face off. Princess Seraphina isn't happy with the high-handedness of her mother or the arrogance of Ash. A whirlwind of push and pull happens between them. An underlying mystery developed behind the scene which leaves you intrigued and excited for the next book. An ideal afternoon read. Beautiful cover. Definitely recommend this read.
I was surprised by how much I ate this book up as I am not a normally fantasy/ shifter reader. For a debut author this book had banter and the enemies to lovers I enjoyed without the complex world building. I was hesitant on Ash but I can see why he is going to be the reason for the series, the FMC was frustrating but you can understand her reasons as you read along
For someone looking for a light & short read into a 4 book series this is for you.
- enemies to lovers - arranged marriage - love triangle - secrets/ who to trust - dragons, fae, shifters, Sirens
Normally i do not enjoy dragon-shifter books, because they seem awkward and just boring. But this one was soo good! The enemies to lovers, the banter, sassy and drama.
Oh how I'm in love with Ashton MountCastle💓 *heart eyes*
A fun read overall, bit predictable but I loved it. The climax was not too stretched, they sorted out the miscommunication at the right time. It was cliche but I still enjoyed this one. I loved how honorable and thoughtful Ash was, I just think he should have voiced his thoughts a little clearly in the beginning of the story (but then that wouldn't have added the spice in this enemies to lovers so I guess it worked). With Nina, I expected her to be a strong and smart women from reading the synopsis. But she turned out to be a little spontaneous in her decisions, like girl talk it out! Still it worked out for them and their chemistry. The banter, the sexual tension, and the slow burn was amazing. One star down as there were a few scenes in the beginning that pissed me off even if they were justified later.
It's a good read for someone who loves an arranged marriage, enemies to lovers story with a sexy ass dragon shifter male lead, who is also charming and very wise, falling in love with an I-don't-take-anybody's-bullshit princess, who's just totally opposite of his personality😂💓
I just hope in the next book there's a stronger plot with more politics and action. It will be fun if the magic system is explored further!
PS: It was so irritating to hear Nina say Nicky everytime idk why
In Power Hungry, Wanda Swan weaves a magical tale of the main character Nina’s quest for love, lust and finding her truth. The story is set in a fantasy world that is carefully tangled within the human world as we know it. I found myself engrossed and turning pages rapidly to learn more about the characters and their quests in this fantasy world. I also really enjoyed the imagery that arises through the outfits the characters choose to wear, and the steamy tension that develops between the two main characters. Wow wee! It’s an enjoyable quick read that leaves you eagerly awaiting the release of Book 2.
~ dyslexia friendly ~ Wanda has a vivid writing voice and transported me to a new world with this book. If you are a visual learner/reader she uses intense descriptive details that allows you to form perfect scenes in your head. I instantly fell in love with the main characters demeanour and personality which made it impossible for me to put the down!! I recommend this book to everyone!!!
The world aesthetic was different from any other fantasy romance I’ve read, which was so refreshing. I loved how relatable Nina (female MC) was, the relationship development and tension building between her and Ash. It ends on a cliffhanger, but book 2 is being released soon so we don’t have to wait too long lol. 5/5⭐️ and 3/5 🌶️
Power hungry has to be one of my favourite reads of the year. new spin on supernatural romance and a rich setting fillled with characters who have genuine chemistry. I literally couldn’t put it down! The protagonist is so real you can’t help but cheer her on. Overall hilarious and touching and steamy at all the right times. I’m begging for the sequel to come out now!
This book felt as though is was written during Covid induced unemployment, by a teenage girl in love with the idea of being a writer and little skill to execute. It reads like a fanfic, honestly. The plot was barely there, ideas and relationships shallow and underdeveloped. Absolutely no depth. No mystery.
This is one of my favourite books of 2022! I would 10/10 recommend. The plot kept me on my toes and engaged throughout the entire book. I finished it in a day! Fans of S.J.Mass you will love this book!! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
Arrange marriage enemies to lovers royal romantasy with a love triangle 💃 I didn't really know what to expect since this is the first book I've read with the arranged marriage trope.
This book is part of a series so I'm trying to be fair with the rating. I did wish it was longer. It was under 300 pages so it was hard to believe the development of the romantic connection. I was shocked to see it was so short. But, it makes sense since it's not too detailed and the focus is on the arranged married and the consummation "date".
It does end on a cliffhanger and you have a good idea of what's happening on the last page and know what is going to happen in the next book.
Some other notes: -it's pretty straight forward, not complicated to understand or digest -good for beginner fantasy readers. No world building. No complicated fantasy words - the author repeats the phrase "where I am concerned" way too many time haha or maybe it's just the way the royals speak -the FMC is very naive and I felt bad for her throughout the story -the swear words and the naughty comments were added randomly and felt like they came out of nowhere through the book -for some reason I was always suspicious about Ash. I didn't really fall for him. -the end felt kind of weird (spicy scene) -check TWs
I’m so glad I read Power Hungry and can’t wait to continue reading Seraphina ‘Nina’ and Ash’s love story in Charged Up.
It’s an enemies to lovers, forced proximity, arranged marriage scenario with a hint of magic and it was REALLY good. The only reason I’ve given it 4 stars was because I feel like the climax of the story was over before it started and I was craving more drama. The banter was great and there were genuinely funny parts in the story.
I loved how Seraphina was clearly classy but didn’t flaunt it. She had her Birkin bag and knew Dom Perignon from her Passion Pop, but was chilled. She’s head strong, didn’t just fall in a heap and bargained her own terms and conditions.
Ash is a book boyfriend to be. He’s charming and comes across as cocky in the beginning but he’s a massive softie when it comes to Nina. He’s attentive, caring and respectful. I love it 😍
PLEASE read this story! Wanda Swan has done an amazing job! Congratulations!!
The book disappointed me greatly Apparently the tick tock has over hyped the hell outta the book clearly. It might be because I was not a fresh reader. Had I had not read much more better content in the same genre I would have been impressed by the wanda's work. If I keep my biasness aside and do not expect the book to be as good as the tik tok describes it I would have been much more appreciating towards this fantasy romance. But since that was not the case I ended up feeling a little hungry for a better plot and a good speed. The story line moving was a lot slow burning. Which I must emphasize I am not a fan of. So overall I was just not feeling the characters or the character development for that matter. It might not be a book for me. But for any fresh reader of historical romance fantasy I would much recommend the book it can be a good opening gate for most peoples so ok I guess....
Finished a 5-Star book last week and have been struggling to move forward even though I only had two more books to complete the challenge GR gave to me, which was ten books for the year. Tried to read something I had already saved in my TBR based on outside recommendations but just couldn’t get into it. Maybe another time.
This is where Power Hungry comes in. I typed in “romantasy” in Kindle Unlimited and this was within the top twenty options I was given. I decided to stick with what I liked — shifters, forced proximity, slow burns — and I’m SO glad I did. This was a quick read but I really enjoyed the book.
It feels like a bit of a YA Romantasy, but I enjoyed it none the less. I read it in one sitting and plan to continue through the series! I really hope Ash doesn’t turn out to be horrible and we move through the series, I’m loving his character right now.
This is a Romantasy book, and definitely for the 18+ audience.
Author’s Note, taken from GoodReads “ Power Hungry is an angsty new adult romance with a coming-of-age storyline. This is paranormal romantasy has a love triangle, ends on a cliff hanger and is a cosy afternoon escape”

Memorable Quote 🥵
✨ “On the consummation date, if not before, I’m going to strip you naked, spread your legs & f*** you until you’re screaming my name. And then we’re going to live happily ever f*****g after”
Wishes For The Book 📖
✨I wish it had leaned more into the love triangle trope, it didn’t feel as if the third party was truly involved throughout ✨ That we had more scenes between Nicky & Nina, as well as more of Nina’s college life beforehand.
Great start to a series and can’t wait to read the next instalment ✨
literally so spicy omfg i didn’t think there’d be THAT much suggestive scenes in there,,,,,,
but anyways- THIS HAD TWO SUPERIOR TROUPES LMFAOOOO (1) ENEMIES TO LOVERS & (2) ARRANGED MARRIAGE. IF THIS WON’T MAKE YOU WANT TO READ IT ALREADY, SOMETHING’S DEF WRONG WITH YOU /hj.
OH OH, AND IT’S SO FUNNY HOW I ONLY REALIZED THAT “RICKY” WAS ACTUALLY A “NICKY” ONLY HALFWAY THROUGH THE STORY HAGSHAGSHSGA-
AND THAT’S ON MISTER YOUNG AND RICH, TALL AND HANDSOME’S IMPACT !!
I WOULD HAVE RATED THIS 5 STARS IF IT WEREN’T FOR T H A T PART WHERE BOTH SERAPHINA AND ASHTON KEPT PUSHING AND PULLING EO CUZ OEBIWNKDBS I DIDN’T THINK THAT IT WAS AS WELL-DONE COMPARED TO THE OTHER PARTS OF THE BOOK.
WILL READ BOOK 2 RIGHT AWAY :>

Can’t believe I read this whole thing in like 7 hours!! I broke my new record! Even tho it’s only 277ish pages! It’s alright :) but I think Nina (FL) is a bit stubborn and naive, I mean REALLY stubborn and stupid. It really pisses me off. But the ending was pretty satisfying. The part where Nike (the vampire guy) was controlling her mind, that part was actually intense! That action packed scene was really amazing! NGL!! But overall, pretty great. But probably will not be reading the second part since I think this is the perfect ending for their love story, I don’t need to know about FL’s awakening of magic or something. Nope. That’s another drama I don’t want to be dealt with. Even for a drama fan like myself 😉🫥
“A statement then. I like your fire, Princess. And I still think you’re beautiful.”
5⭐️ 2.5🌶️ This book was phenomenal!! It sucks you in right from the beginning. The world building was amazing. The overall storyline was so good. It’s a slow burn. There is a love triangle. I was a little unsure if I was gonna like Ashton’s character or not. But by the end of the book I was in love with him. His possessiveness over Seraphina was hot 🥵 I loved the how sassy and fierce the princess was. She is not someone who bows down to anyone. I couldn’t put this book down. I’m immediately going to read book 2. I have to know what happens with Nick. This book is definitely a must read!!
It is very rare that i will hate a main character but this book was too childish!!!! The main character was so childish because her arranged marriage wasn’t even that bad and her mother was only trying to protect her no need to get bratty and hate her!!! 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢🤢 like girl just cause your mom doesn’t want you to marry a evil bloodthirsty vampire who wants your powers and to control your mind doesn’t mean that she hates you. And just because your fiancé, friends, and mom were trying to keep you in their realm because someone threatened your life doesn’t mean that they don’t care about you.
