Desperate to start a family, Lucy agrees to be interviewed about her experience of infertility. The journalist is Vita, a friend from her childhood, and the chance meeting revives memories for Lucy. But she realizes some remain beyond her grasp; who was the child who died and why?
Admittedly it's years since I read this, but the awfulness of it stuck with me. I believe it was meant to trade on the newsworthiness of the then-current issue of child abuse, but the characters were wooden and unsympathetic and the whole story failed to ring true. A very disappointing read.
