A Year of Slowing Down: Daily Devotions for Unhurried Living

Rate this book
With the overwhelming pace of life, many of us struggle to stop long enough to be present. Our long to-do lists and full calendars leave little breathing room to hear from God. We know we need to slow down but we don't even know how to begin.

Alan Fadling has spent years coaching leaders and communities on how to live an unhurried life, teaching that productivity and success are not our chief end, but rather living at the pace that our true self longs to live. Designed to help you center your day around God's loving presence, A Year of Slowing Down offers six devotionals for each week of the year. Each day begins with a Scripture passage followed by a short reading and a reflection question.

This book is an invitation to slow down and be present to the movement of God in your everyday life. Will you accept God's call to welcome a year of slowing down?

In these pages, their author leads you as a friend, and a kind and tender-hearted mentor into simple daily encounters with our loving and gentle God.

Vulnerably, through exposing his own relatable misunderstandings, he illuminates God's actual character and care for each of us in simple eye-opening terms, drawing us deeper into the arms of the un-earthly grace of our Lord.

Alan feels like someone you wish you knew, full of practical wisdom for living an unhurried life rooted in real everyday grace.

So this book was pricey ($18.00 for a Kindle version.). And I thought I'd enjoy it because I was retiring again for the third time and thought that being able to focus on "slowing down" would be just the ticket.

Except there is no focus in the book (that I could discern) on slowing down, unless it was just what the pastor who wrote the book had to do to make time to write.

I might have rated it higher had it been reasonably priced and was focused on what the title said it was. It would make a nice New Testament Christian devotional if that's what you are looking, and don't need more practical help "slowing down" like I do.
