First and foremost, a large thank you to Morgan Greene for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

A great fan of Morgan Greene and his DI Jamie Johansson series, I was excited to be handed an early copy of the latest book. Full of great Swedish flavouring and dark criminal activity, Greene takes readers on an adventure in the rural part of Sweden once more. A number of teenagers have been committing suicide and leaving an odd mark on their bodies, but no one seems able to piece it together, When Jamie and her former partner, Kjell Thorsen, are called to come look into things, they reveal a dark situation tied to a famous piece of writing. With a message embedded in the writing and a potential killer on the loose, Johansson and Thorsen will have to uncover the truth, while also trying to deny the personal connection they have forged. Greene does a masterful job with this one, sure to impress series fans.

Gotland is a beautiful island off the Swedish coast, where many would surely feel that nothing could go wrong. However, after 22 young people commit suicide in a seventeen month period, something is surely wrong and yet there is no explanation. The local medical examiner notices no similarities in the deaths, save a black heart marking on each of the bodies. The media have been gagged from reporting on things and the police are without any leads. Kjell Thorsen receives a call from the ME, hoping that he can bring his former partner, DI Jamie Johansson, to help unravel the mess.

While it takes a little persuading, Jamie and Kjell agree to make their way to Gotland and poke around, though they remain pariahs in the policing community after their latest suspension. What they uncover is a mystery that appears to have no basis. That is, until Jamie receives a tip from one of the victim’s friends about a connection to Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Could this be the missing link that everyone has been overlooking? Jamie and Kjell push onwards to uncover the truth, but are stymied when the National Police are brought in and the senior detective is anything but amenable to sharing the case.

Meanwhile, a father is on a mission of his own to find the person who killed his daughter, unable to live with the grief and demanding answers. His personal trek through the wilderness garners fewer clues, but a stronger determination to get to the truth, leaving the police to wonder if his vigilante behaviour could cause more issues. Jamie and Kjell push to help, but this father refuses to stand down, which only makes matters worse.

All the while Jamie and Kjell are trying to fight the magnetic connection they share. It has been shelved and left to gather dust, but others are noticing the tension between them, which could derail the case if it is not addressed. Will DI Johansson and Kjell Thorsen be able to find a killer without tripping over one another? How will working rogue mesh with a determined detective who wants all the glory for himself? All this and more is embedded in Morgan Green’s latest novel, which adds tension throughout this stellar story!

I have followed Jamie Johansson along her policing adventures since the beginning. Morgan Green has always done a stellar job at keeping the stories on point, localised, and full of action. When he moved things to Sweden (from the UK), I was not sure if the intensity would translate, but it did. Greene develops a strong narrative throughout and keeps the reader fully involved with the story at all points. The character development is ongoing and Jamie has never lacked for development, both professional and personally. This new love interest angle with Kjell Thorsen is sure to add something to future novels, though I am not sure how Jamie’s hard exeterior will allow too much of the mushy stuff. Greene adds great plot twists and multi-faceted approaches to keep the reader engaged, especially by offering up a variety of narrative angles to ensure the full impact of the piece is apparent. Without going over the top, there is something for everyone in here and I am happy to see that Jamie is back into policing, even if it is in a rogue fashion. What does the future hold for her is still up in the air, but when has Jamie Johansson taken the easy road?

Kudos, Mr. Greene, for asking me to read another wonderful piece. I cannot wait to see what’s next and how it will all come together.

I must admit I am getting tired of the story. I loved it but the relationship issues are getting in the way. I am sick of everyone not working out for her. While I know this is not a romance, I was liking that storyline, but I do not like Thorsen very much, i was, warming to him, but I can see the writing on the wall. Also, Jamie is getting on my nerves. She places everyone in Danger. She doesn't make good decisions and it is getting annoying. I think I am going to take a break and go back to it as I never dnf a book hardly ever. I skimmed ahead and I know what is going to happen and I just am sad ill come back to finish so I am not rating it but it just isn't flowing for me.

This thrilling novel contains everything I wish in a crime book! From the beginning on, a creepy feeling crawled under my skin, raising questions which did not allow me to even start guessing at their answers. A complex plot I got straight away immersed into whose tension did not let up till the end. I also enjoyed meeting Jamie again and to learn about how she survived her last case.... I really like her character. A great conclusion giving sense to all the questions and doubts that had developed through the novel, while making me now wonder what happens next.... Can't wait for the next book in the series!
Thank you, Morgan, to let me read your new novel as an ARC, I got very attached to Jamie!

Well I've finished another Jamie Johansson book. This one was interesting in that the killer kept killing people until he confronted Jamie. The book begins with a girl falling from over sixty-seven feet onto the ground 5 feet away from Annika. Annika was one of the first people that gave Jamie the insight into what triggered the killer. The police had been working for over two years on this killer. Jamie was working less than a day to find this thread. But Sonja an old friend of Kjell Thorsen pleaded with him to come and solve the case even though they were in Greece on a hiatus as police. Everything is out of sequence but you know by now that Morgan Greene is fabulous at writing the story so I recommend this book to noir readers. Were still having feelings like Sonja.

Book 7 in the Jamie Johansson Series and another great read. I love this series and whilst you’ll want to read them all they all read well as standalone’s. For background both Jamie and Kjell Thornsen were sacked/resigned after their last case and have been living in Greece. That is until Thorsen is contacted by an old friend, pathologist Sonja Ehrhart, begging for his help. Jamie is probably one of the hardest, badass women I’ve ever read. She will stop at nothing to close a case and seems completely unaware of danger to her own life. She comes across as cold at times but what she is is loyal to her friends and dedicated to finding killers.

Briefly, Annika Olsen is splattered with blood and looking down realises her friend Juni has fallen from Gotland university administration building, landing close to her. Sonja tells Jamie and Thornsen that Juno is the 23rd teen between 13-19 who has committed suicide or disappeared on their small island and all the bodies had a black heart cut into their flesh. Jamie is convinced there were earlier killings not yet identified. Meanwhile, Lucas Adell’s daughter went missing, was she the first victim, and still grieving her mother Marie walks into the sea leaving Adell distraught at losing them both. Can Jamie and Thorsen prevent more teenage deaths.

This investigation was a lot less gruesome than some of the previous cases they have worked on, I really liked this change. The simmering attraction between Jamie and Thornsen is still there and it’s affecting their friendship. This is quite a twisty and dark read at times and although I sussed out one twist there was one massive reveal that I hadn’t even suspected. It’s a fabulous, well written and constructed thriller. Loved it

This is another fantastic read in one of my favourite series. After events in the last book, Jamie and Thorsen are in Greece and are no longer in the police. When Thorsen gets a call from an old friend, he jumps at the chance to go back to Sweden and look into why 23 youngsters have all committed suicide in separate incidents over 2 years, and why the authorities don't seem to be too concerned about it.

The story is different from the previous few books in that it isn't as out there and gruesome , but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Jamie and Thorsen have some personal issues to resolve so this had a bit more of a personal feel to it for me. Jamie is such a great character though and you have to wonder if she'll permanently close herself off to others or if she'll become more personable as time goes on. The story is told from various points of view and I thought it worked well. There are some new characters also which were interesting and lay a foundation for the next book. As usual, the book had me drawn in from the first character and I picked it up to continue reading every minute I got.

Looking forward to the next book which thankfully isn't too far in the future. The author can't write these books fast enough.

Another classic Jamie Johansson adventure!

Having read all the previous books in this series I couldn't wait to read this next novel.

Black heart definetly didn't disappoint. As with every other book in the series, I literally couldn't put it down. Full of twists and turns, it had all the classic characteristics that you'd expect with Jamie at the helm, including a thrilling final.

It was great to see the character development between Thorsen and Johannson. Will they ever get their 'happy ever after'? Can Johansson really leave the force behind?

A truly great novel, not as dark as previous ones but still a fantastic story. Looking forward to the next novel in the series. Morgan Greene is such a fantastic writer and this series has been excellent. Every book reveals a different side to Johansson. Just when you think you know everything about her, you discover something new!

I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book which is number 7 in the Jamie Johansson series.

As with the previous stories Black Heart is an action packed thriller and I was dragged in from the first chapter.

The story starts with teenagers commiting suicide in the Swedish Town of Gotland over a period of 2 years, the NOD have had very little success with the case. Pathologist Sonja Ehrhart contacts Kjell Thornsen and Jamie after they have resigned from the force for help after the 23rd victim has died.

What follows is a very well written, intriguing and twisty plot that will keep you gripped until the final page. As with the previous Jamie books I really enjoyed this latest installment and it was great to see the addition of some new characters, I'm looking forward to the next book!

This is book 7 in the Jamie Johansson series & it was fab. All the books can be read as standalones but why do that to yourself? Start at the beginning & enjoy the rollercoaster of a ride that is Jamie’s life - work & personal. Jamie & Kjell Thorsen are living in Greece when he is contacted by an old friend who is desperate for his help.

On the Swedish island of Gotland, 22 teenagers have committed suicide in the space of seventeen months. Obviously something is amiss but the deaths cannot be linked except for a black heart marking their bodies. Jamie & Kjell investigate in their own inimitable style but are hampered by the animosity of the National Police lead detective & the vigilante actions of a bereaved father.

Another excellent addition to the series, not as gory as some but a gripping plot all the same. Roll on book 8.

Great Read

Another gripping adventure for Jamie.

Six months after both she and Thorsen were fired from their last jobs, she finds herself dragged back into investigative work when an old friend and colleague of Thorsen contacts him. She's concerned that so many teenagers have turned up on her pathologists slab, seemingly having taken their own lives, and the police aren't taking it seriously.

Looking into this takes Jamie on a collision course with an old boss who makes it clear she is not wanted. Her relationship with Thorsen is well and truly put to the test as past demons come back to pull them apart.

Can they get to the bottom of what on earth is going on on this tiny island and will they be able to remain friends if they do manage to survive this maniacal serial killer.

Enjoyed. I skipped the prior book, was irritated by two in a row by what appeared to be the issues with a weird cult.

Written from various perspectives as our heros, she apparently got out of the 'service' with her buddy, get 'invited' into this delightful whodunit.

No, Jamie is a pain in the ass. Her and her buddy, who apparently are in love, just don't want to face it. And no longer having a badge complicates issues.

Fast paced, odd story, some of the 'hows' were never explained, but I enjoyed.

The are about 7 other Jamie books running around, three prequels and four of a series that I don't know where they fit.

The acknowledgements indicate there will be more of THIS series, while the good mister Greene writes some other things too.

I think I'll just wait for #8 in this series, although there is no indication of when it will become avail.

Gripping stuff.

Jamie J is called upon to catch another serial killer who is baffling the locals, while while trying to sort out her feelings for her partner.
That description doesn't do it justice at all.
Suffice it to say that I will be reading and listening to the next instalment as soon as I can get my hands on it.
These are definitely my favourite crime novels at the moment ( closely followed by the Stella Cole novels of Andy Maslen, also set in Sweden).
The audiobooks are brilliantly narrated too. Which is a real bonus.
A highly recommended seres.

Despite all the talking about the relationship between Jamie and Thorsen, the book was lighter than the previous ones and was more in the investigative part, putting Jamie's brilliant mind to work without breaking so many rules or all the time infuriating people who are there too to help. The book was fast

The book kept the dynamism and the intense speed of reading, I just hope that Thorsen survives and that he doesn't always have his life at risk, as it was in the last books.

INTENSE & DEEPLY SATISFYING NORDIC NOIR CRIME THRILLER!!!

The psychological aspects of each of the characters in this one will get into you, beneath your skin and keep you turning page after page deep into the night!!! I ADORED the unique style of this crime thriller where each chapter put you inside another character’s thoughts, emotions, & motivations!! The setting is again ethereal and haunting!! CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE!!!:-). LOVED IT!!:)

I wasn't a huge fan of the multiple POVs. Lots of typos in this one (kindle edition), and I'd already noticed the author uses a lot of repetition, in this one "homed" just kept popping up, though "honed" also showed once or twice.

Was a lot harder to like Jamie in this one, even more than in the previous two. I'm not sure yet if I'll continue with her story, but I'm probably going to at least try book one of the next series.

I loved this book...I have to say though I am a little frustrated with Jamie and her stubbornness! She is messing up a good thing with Kjell in my opinion and needs to give her head a shake. I'm glad she's doing what she does best though...solving complicated intriguing cases. This case keep me reading into the wee hours and I'm excited to see what's next.

The first part dragged for me and I was not a fan of the multiple points of view. It picked up in the second half and the story became more interesting. I know Jamie is a flawed character- one of the things I like about her- but in this book she was pretty exasperating! Hoping the next book returns to form.

DI Jamie Johansson at her very best

Fantastic book, I'm just sorry it's over. Really looking forward to the next Jamie book, especially as it's set in Wales. I have no doubt that it will be as gritty, if not more so! Highly recommend this book and the whole Jamie series.

Not as good as the previous ones (even though the subject matter was not always to my taste). The first part felt rushed and flimsy, although I did like the second part when they were looking for the perpetrator. Felt I had missed a bit of the story between the last and this book, perhaps I didn't pay much attention to the last part of the last book.

Love the Jamie story, and I love that it takes place on Gotland and Fårö, that are places I miss and I love, however it’s so frustrating when the Swedish language parts are misspelled or wrong words used (even google translate would do a better job). Please get a better proofreader.

If that's it for this series I'm going to lose my mind.

The book felt shorter with less twists because there were so many POVs. But Morgan really you can't make people emotionally attached to the different characters and then end the book like that with no announcement of a new one :(((

After about an hour of listening, I was reminded of why I stopped the series before. Which is really too bad because I was interested in the mystery. The last thing I need right now is a neurotic character, unless that character is going to be funny. She is not funny, but broken.
