Grace Daniels arrives in Cañon City, Colorado as a mail-order bride, only to find her intended has chosen another. Alone and lonely, she writes a desperate letter to The Lovelorn, who advises her to look for love in everyday places. But how can a girl who's working all hours as a seamstress just to afford to pay for a room meet a decent man?

When Jasper Hill offers a kind girl a position as a seamstress in his general store, he never thought it would lead to anything more. Struggling to remain hopeful after the woman he'd hoped to marry left town months ago, love is the last thing on his mind. Yet he finds himself spending more time in the shop when Grace is there. There's just something about her that he can't seem to ignore.

When Grace discovers a cryptic note in a man's shirt, she suddenly becomes someone's target. As the threats against her escalate, Jasper must find a way to keep her safe even if it means he'll never see her again.

Like all of Cat’s books, Grace is a sweet and clean romance that will warm your heart and fill you with hope.

Brides of Fremont County is a spin-off of Cat's Gilbert Girls series. You may find some of your favorite characters making an appearance in each series! Grace is Emma's youngest sister from the first Gilbert Girls book, Building Forever. Each book in the Brides of Fremont County series is a standalone romance and can be read in no particular order.

First off, the name of this book has changed, and is now Grace. The "Yours Truly: The Lovelorn" series was discontinued, so it was changed slightly to become the 1st book in the Brides of Fremont County series.

This was an OK mail-order bride romance, with likable characters, but it was just too short to have enough character development. I needed more backstory on both Grace and Jasper. It gets 3 stars from me.

I liked that Jasper and his family helped Grace. They helped her when her fiance didn't meet her at the train depot (he had married someone else!). Then, Jasper gave her a job in his family's store when she desperately needed it.

Grace and Jasper were both likable, and I was glad when they found their HEA. I actually really liked that Jasper was so honorable, and tried really hard to fight his feelings for Grace, since he thought his former girlfriend was coming back to marry him.

This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

I couldn't connect with any of these characters. Grace was insipid, and Jasper was too wishy-washy.

Jasper wasn't my kind of mmc. His inner thoughts were both infuriating and boring because most of them had to do with his supposed fiancée. A woman named Ada, who was a known player around town. Both Jasper's sister and mom knew about this situation, but somehow, he didn't, which baffled me. I just found that too hard to believe, taking into consideration all of them lived in a small town and people breathed gossip and scandal through their nostrils during that time period.

Although their attraction for one another was stated several times from the very beginning, these characters lacked chemistry. I didn't believe in their attraction for one another, and so the few romantic scenes were ineffective.

There was a subplot that added mystery to the story, and while it made some scenes more interesting, I think it missed the entire point towards the end. It was comical - not in a good way - how both main characters dealt with the situation.

All in all, if you like a behind-closed-doors romance with some mystery, this might be for you. Mimi Matthews writes similar books if you're looking for more recommendations just like this

I wouldn't known what to do if I was Grace after she traveled to Colorado to marry a man only to find out he had already married someone else. I certainly wouldn't have lasted at the dress shop with the awful owner who didn't allow breaks and put all his employees down. I hope she hires some of his seamstresses away. Jasper was a fool to believe that the superficial lady he had been courting would wait for him. She would have expected more from him than he could afford and wouldn't have wanted to work in his mercantile with his family. The mystery of the note in the shirt pocket Grace finds takes up much of the rest of the story and adds to the suspense as she is followed and threatened. Grace and Jasper were rather foolish in their actions many times in this book. This was a clean historical western mail order bride romantic mystery.

Grace has traveled far to meet he husband to be, only to find him married already. Now with little money and no where to go, she has to make some choices.

This is a heartwarming historical romance filled with wonderful characters and drama. The characters seem to pop off the page with their well crafted personalities and their flaw. The character interaction is great, I loved the tender moments and the dramatic scenes. The characters must overcome their past commitments and present dangers in order for them to have any chance to be together. The storyline flows quickly and smoothly filled with twists and turns, danger and suspense. I loved how this story came alive for me and I could not put it down once I started to read it. If you love historical romances from the West, you will enjoy this book.

Beautiful mail order bride story. What do you do when you find yourself far from home and the man you were supposed to marry is married to someone else? Jasper Hill and his mother find Grace at the train station confused. When she tells them of her intended they inform her of his recent marriage to someone else just 3 days prior. They help her with her bags and take her to a nearby boarding house. She buckles down and looks for work. She has sewing skills that will benefit others. Come along this journey filled with hope amidst despair, faith and love even during trials, and good versus evil. I highly recommend it! Happy Reading!

Grace, a mail order bride, is shocked to arrive in Colorado to find out her groom has married someone else in the meantime. She tries to find a job but her new boss is pretty much running a sweat shop. But what can she do?
Jasper offers Grace a new job, mending clothes at his Mercantile. But will the daily interaction be bothersome? What about the girl he's wanting to marry? What happens when Grace is in danger?
This is a clean, sweet romance. It was good, but I'm more excited to find out more about Jasper's sister once book #14 (Desperate in Denver) is released.... But it was an alright read.

💞 Grace and Jasper 💞

Grace arrives to town as a mail order bride for the local butcher, only to find out that he already wed some other lady!

Jasper Hill and his mother own the general store, along with sister Molly. Jasper has been waiting almost a year for his intended to come home from New York so they can wed, but he has not heard a peep out of her all this time. Meanwhile, sweet Grace has invaded his mind...

Plenty of romance, as well as some action and suspense thrown in. Loved this story! Jasper and Grace were such a sweet couple ❤️

A new to me author, and I can’t wait to read more of her books!

Relatable characters

Most of us, at sometime in our lives, have experienced a bully or bullies who pick us apart until they find that soft vulnerable spot. Grace, our shy heroin, has a skin "flaw" that she desperately tries to hide from the world. Because of that she hides herself from the world.
But what happens when that special someone comes along, finding "flawed" Grace for who she really is; a vulnerable and reclusive beauty who takes his breath away?
Enjoy this novel, whether you have felt less than perfect or not. Will a handsome stranger find the key to her heart, or will he be the rejected one?

Confused in Colorado

This was a great book on how mail order brides can be left at the station even though their train tickets were bought and paid for by their supposed new husbands. This also tells about how one can be deceived by others who they believe are their friends. Grace meets Jasper who is pining away for his lost love only to find out she is marrying someone else. Jasper owns the local general store and Grace eventually starts to work there with his mother. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

Another great read by Cat Cahill who once again brings strong characters in Grace and Jasper. The author does a great job developing their story and bringing them together after both are stranded by another. She pulls you in with all the drama and danger, action and mystery along with tons of action. She brings the story to life with her descriptive and detailed writing. I enjoyed reading their story.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Mystery in the General Store

The book I read was titled Grace, but this is the title GoodReads led me to. I read the description and it is the same book. Grace took a long train ride and ended up in a small town. Nearly out of money, she asked the proprietor of the boarding house about work as a seamstress and was referred to the general store. She got the job. One day, there was a mysterious folded note inside the garment she was assigned to mend.

Will Grace find out what the note was about? Will she be in danger? Read the book to find out.

I really enjoyed this installment of The Lovelorn Series; Grace expects to marry when she arrives in Colorado but finds her future grooms married another. Jasper and his mother see a beautiful woman abandoned at the train platform and decide to help her, Grace, they take her to a boarding house. She does find a seamstress job and writes to "The Lovelorn" column for advice.

Dejected, rejected and confused

Grace's sister had been a mail order bride so these things work out perfectly - not! Left at the train station, but discovered by the best folks in town, Grace grabs the first job possible. A horrid job and not so great advice from Dear Lovelorn. How could things get worse?

What a delightful story. I must say Grace had a lot of courage to travel so far to find upon her arrival, her husband to be had recently married and left her stranded! She ends up staying to earn money, finds work but conditions and the boss are really horrible. Not wanting to spoil anything…this is a delightful book and I hope you read it to find out how things turn out for Grace.

Grace arrived in a small western town as a mail-order bride. To her great dismay, she discovers he had just gotten married. Fortunately, a woman and her son, Jason come to her aid. She appreciated all they were doing for her and finds herself looking at Jason as more than a friend.
Was he really engaged to someone? She hated to think about it.
A nice little romantic story.

Cozy read.

A nice, clean, enjoyable story, with likeable characters. You don't have to be a prude to get tired of sexual descriptions that become repetitive to the point where they are boring, and also don't lend themselves to the story content.

A sweet story with a little action

The characters are nice and the story flows. It's a great palate cleanser. I think the little mystery adds to the story. But I 'd punch Jasper at some point
