The classic story of the Ugly Duckling. At school, no one looked at Steve unless it was to mock him. He was awkward, clumsy and a child cursed with acne. Years later and school is over and Steve has grown into a fine, handsome man. Now when he walks down the streets, he doesn't get people crossing the road to avoid him, he doesn't get people mocking him or quietly laughing behind his back. They still look but for far different reasons. Men are jealous of him and his model-like looks and seemingly successful life and women want to bed him. There's more to Steve than meets the eye though. His insides aren't quite wired the same way as other men and, despite the smiles and outwardly friendly personality that he gives off, he hasn't forgotten how people used to treat him. He hasn't forgiven them either and soon, all will regret laughing at him.
MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
Ok, so I know other reviewers spoiled the big surprise here, and as much as I’d like to, I won’t. And I also really wanted to make a dead prostitute joke here, too, but my wife reprimanded me for it, and it got cut. But it was funny. I assure you all of that. Anyway, this is such a creative, well-written, and psychologically intense horror story, that totally shocked me by its quality. Matt Shaw is a great writer, but sometimes he writes himself into a corner and, especially with some of his more absurb and extreme premises, they tend to fall flat. But this was just well done for so many reasons. So Steve is our main character, and as the story reveals his unfortunate traumas at the hands of some very mean-spirited classmates, you feel terrible for him. Like we all deal with bullying and such at some point, but what they did to this poor kid was in such bad taste. And something happens to him soon after (Again, no spoilers here), and voila, you have a vengeful killer unleashed with a very special talent. Matt Shaw takes you into the way Steve chooses the victims, what goes through his head as he sets it all up, and executes his plans with a long term goal in mind. I liked the cerebral commentary, which made Steve seem so calculated and rational, which set him apart from just any generic serial killer. The ending seemed abrupt, which, again, is something else Shaw does somewhat often, and it takes some his great quality tales like this and reduces the overall impact. But this was a really creative and intriguing tale of revenge that any fan or extreme and/or psychological horror will appreciate.
Kids will be kids they say to excuse their disrespectful and cruel behavior. Let’s say one day someone remembers being the target of a cruel joke and decide to get revenge?
Here enters Steve a nerd in high school who is the target of a cruel prank that changes his entire life and now years later he has been waiting for the right moment.
This book was good it was very fast paced and the author switched from past to the present seamlessly. This novel is very graphic and explicit if you are someone who likes their books not going over the edge this is not the book for you. I do enjoy the author writing style where most author stops that’s his starting point.
This is a cautionary tale be careful who you decide to do wrong because they will be coming back to collect.( insert creepy laugh)
I know this is tagged extreme, so I'm sure some people won't agree with what I'm about to say, but I found so much humor in this story (in a great way). Imagine your favorite superhero, yet he holds a grudge. So that hero is now a not nice guy. It's Toxic Avengers on steroids and h#rny LOL. If you haven't read this book, you won't understand this review because it sounds like nonsense. Do yourself a favor. Read the book. Then you'll get what I'm saying
Okay - I have to admit, I truly enjoyed this twisted tale of revenge. Keeping this review as vague as possible because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who enjoys diving into the dark side with a smile (like I do).
Matt brought Steve to light perfectly in this macabre tale. It’s fast paced but isn’t rushed, telling the tale of a victim that decided to become a twisted sort of karma for his bullies. He blended together Steve’s backstory with his present and threw in little surprises that I wasn’t expecting and I loved it.
As a long time fan of horror, this turned out to be unexpected favorite. It’s a darkly unique and genius take on horror - I highly advise to go into this blind and strap in for the bumpy ride.
My local indie bookstore told me this was a must read. Little did I know when I told him I was 50 pages in he asked if it was any good as he laughed. At that point I was invested and had to know how it ended. Surprisingly I enjoyed this book. It’s not for the faint of heart. This book had an original story. This felt like a male version of TEETH in a way. Totally recommend.
One crazy story! With some even crazier plot twists! Loved every second, defiantly not for snowflakes eyes! But a must for extreme horror fans, loved it
Trash. Someone posted about this author in a group I follow on FB. So I wanted to check a book out. This is by far one of the biggest wastes of time in book form I've ever come across. I only finished it because I figured that if I wasted time even starting it I might as well get my page count toward my reading goal. Plus it was an extremely short read. Almost like a slightly extensive essay. Sounds like a teenager wrote it. Wasn't even well written. And the story line is completely ridiculous. This has to be a joke lol. Do not recommend.
I always know I'm in for a good read with this author. Matt has an amazing way of bringing a story to life and filling it full of twists and wonder throughout. I love how the story starts off simple and then builds into a sinister tale of murder and revenge. This was just the same, with an ending you couldn't predict. Great read and definitely recommend.
✔️ Extreme Horror (kinda) ✔️ Psychological Thriller ✔️ Old School Creep Factor
“It’s good to see the good guy winning…? If that is how a person feels, they should stop reading now.”
In celebration of Friday the 13th, a quick horror novella was in order. This is classified as extreme horror and it’s graphic but reminiscent of watching a B rated horror film which I feel just adds to the story.
The main character, Steve, is your quintessential nerdy high school kid who gets bullied and grows up seeking revenge. If you’re familiar with Spider-Man, you know that he gets bitten by a radioactive spider, develops sweet web skills, and uses his powers for good. This novella is kinda like that but with a gruesome twist.
It’s weird, it’s twisty, and perfect if you’re looking for a quick little something to make you think ‘wtf did I just read.’
I read this within an hour, due to someone from bookstagram reviewing it
I enjoyed the plot, and the ending was fun! I even laughed in a few places.
I just wish the amount of "and he smiled" wasn't so damn high. Seriously, he smiled way to much. Also, the author wrote third person, but at least once it switched to first person view.
All in all, if you like grahic horror, with colourful language, and I mean very colourful language, this book is for you. Fun read, for sure
I absolutely loved this book...the whole story kept me gripped from the very first page and word until the very last page and word and Oh Boy.... what an spectacular ending...one that I wasn't expecting at all, they say what goes around comes around and this ending truly makes me believe in karma!!! Matt Shaw you are a fantastic author and I will carrying on reading your books as long as you are writing them...thank you for producing such awesome reading.... you're a star!!!
Well, thanks to Kindle Unlimited this just randomly popped up on my suggested algorithm today. And just from the outrageous title alone curiosity certainly killed the cat and I picked it up and finished it in one sitting. And like the title, the content of the story is what you would expect… and more? 😂 utterly gross and often hilarious. I had a great time with this. Certainly not for the faint of heart.
I would have to disagree that it is an extreme horror.. For me that made me not enjoy it as much because I was expecting something different and that is why I am rating it at a 2 star because it just wasnt anything to me that screams EXTREME HORROR. if that part were to be removed from the title I would go with a solid 3 star. It had some different kind of humor throughout it that was funny and they always say what goes around cums around.
Holy hell...this was CRAZY!!! I've definitely never read anything like this. My only complaint is I didn't care for the scene with the therapist and the coercion with the threat of SA. Not here for that in books. However, that is the only negative here. This was shocking and fucked up and honestly very thought provoking and had you kinda feeling bad for Steve cuz of the shit that drove him to this place.
This was the first Matt Shaw book I've read that a friend recommended to me. She told me his writing was gory, twisted, and weird. It did not disappoint. This book was very twisted and the writing was great. I liked how freaky the whole thing was. I can't wait to binge more of his works because his writing style is something I really enjoyed.
This book got me hooked on the first couple chapters. This is an excellent author that I’ll continue to read all of Matt Shaw’s books. It had a very interesting story line of bullying and how he got even with them. The ending I wasn’t expecting but it was very good.
I found this one a little humorous to be honest. I loved the revenge idea, being an outcast in high school as well, and felt myself understanding where he was coming from. I think the reason behind how he has acid sperm is a little strange, but hey, it works. And the suicide/not suicide at the end kind of worked in his favortied up the story nicely.

Horror novel. Think of the movie The Fly and Spiderman. There are some gory and cringe parts, but a lot of the spelled out violence could have been scarier and the story better if it was more focused on the tention than wanting to shock the reader. The title makes you not want to read it. I know I struggled to read it because of that, even though it's a horror novel meets revenge psychopath.

A twisted ending I wasn't expecting!!! Loved this twisted story. Really had me thinking I could guess what would happen at the end but a twist I wasn't expecting🤣 great read!!!
A great book. The story is of a young man who is a nerd and school and bullied by the other kids, he grows up, makes something of himself, and seeks revenge. If you like Matt shaws other books, you’ll love this one as well

I really enjoyed this book because it's different. Never read anything like this. It definitely got me hooked and intrigued. I'm looking forward to reading more of his books. 5 stars ⭐️ from me
An Exciting, entertaining gripping and original novel. Not for the faint of heart!!! If you get easily offended this book is not for you! Full of sex and violence but still has a storyline. It’s good!
Troma Entertainments The Toxic Avenger with a twist
Sick fun with an interesting and unexpected ending. I like Matt Shaw's misogynistic villain's, the dark humor is great. Only a three star as the concept is a bit too bonkers for me and the revenge theme is pretty extreme for what actually triggered the revenge.
