Never get sick. Never get old. It’s great being a vampire…
If you can afford it.
Millie has terminal cancer. She is about to lose everything. Her husband, her friends—and, more devastating, her children.
She’s desperate to have a few more years to watch them grow. Graduate. Watch them fall in love.
But there is a cure. A radical procedure to beat this awful disease.
Become a vampire…
But with the extortionate cost of drugs to preserve your humanity, to keep you from turning feral, the transition is a luxury reserved for the rich and powerful.
The price for another ten years of life isn’t beyond Millie’s budget. Re-mortgage the house. Cut back on holidays and non-essentials. For her beloved children, it’s a sacrifice that’s worth the astronomical debt.
However, the true cost might be higher, more disturbing, than Millie could ever imagine.
Born in the small Welsh town of Llanelli, Steven began writing stories at the age of eight. His inspiration came from his love for ‘80s horror movies, and novels by Stephen King and the late Richard Matheson.
During Steven’s teenage years, as well as being a black-belt kickboxer, he became a great lover of writing dark and twisted poems – six of which gained him publications with Poetry Now, Brownstone Books, and Strong Words.
Over the next few years, and after becoming a father and a husband, Steven's passion drove him towards writing short stories, gaining him further publication with Dark Moon Digest: an American horror magazine. His terrifying tales of the afterlife and zombies gained him positive reviews, particularly his story, Burning Ambition, which also came runner up in a Five-stop-story contest.
Finally, in 2013, after years of hard work (and countless rejection letters), Steven got his debut novel, Fourteen Days, published by Barking Rain Press.
Nine year old Millie is tucked into her bed every night by Dad ever since Mom got sick...
Millie asked Dad to take her to the doctor, but Dad said Mom doesn't need a doctor...
Many years later...
Millie is married with children, and she has developed a wracking cough, which leaves her Kleenex tissues bloody...
Millie has stage four lung cancer...
The doctor tells Millie that she's going to die in a few months. She can extend her life a few months with chemotherapy...
Or there's another option...
He hands Millie a pamphlet for a vampire clinic. After this procedure, Millie will regain her health and youthfulness...
But...
This new procedure is very expensive, and the ongoing follow-up medication is also very costly...
Is it possible that the cure is worse than the disease?...
It is hard to find unique vampire stories because of the glut put out in the last few years, but this author took a new approach, and it was very different.
A short, fast read, but entertaining. Certainly a different take on vampires with several thoughts that may very well make you have new thoughts and expectations about vampires and their un-lives!
It's nice to read about more old school vampires that aren't in the middle of an existential crisis. A Cure For Everything was a quick read with a nice twist. I hope the series continues the high quality horror.
When I read the summary for A Cure For Everything I wasn’t sure what to expect but I will have to say that what lay between the pages was unlike anything I have read before. It was unique in so many ways. I love this new take on vampires. I love the fact that it is so, so different. It is one of the best ideas for a vampire story I have seen in quite a while. The new take on vampires is extraordinary.
A Cure For Everything may be a short story but it packs a big punch with a lot between its pages. The moment I picked up A Cure For Everything I was hooked as I was pulled down into its world as I couldn’t turn those pages fast enough. The more I read the more I wanted to know about this new take on the vampires. I would love to read more from this world and all of its characters and even a few more.
It is my opinion that A Cure For Everything is or would be a great start to a new series. I didn’t want this one to end. No, I wanted it to go on and on. I can’t give this little gem enough praise. If it was possible I would rate A Cure For Everything higher than a five for sure.
A Cure For Everything is one book that I definitely recommend highly. A Cure For Everything is definitely a book for all vampire fans. Grab your copy of A Cure For Everything today! If you love vampires then you are going to fall in love with A Cure For Everything, trust me.
Whilst appreciating this is a novella, I was left wanting more. A story with so much potential to become a full blown novel. A Mum who became a vampire, the daughter who chose to become one as well, what is the afterlife for the person you were before you chose vampirism as a cure? Loved the premise, and the writing.
This is truly a brilliant, well written, dystopian vampire story! A great idea if you ask me! As always amazing idea & story line, great, well thought out characters & a fast paced adventure that grabbed me from the first paragraph & had me completely absorbed until the very end! I do always love this writers work & do strongly recommend!
What if you didn't have to die? What if you choose the alternative path but it cost your lifetime paying to stay alive? Step out of line once, will it have been worth it? Steven Jenkins never fails to keep me glued to the page.
Every possible angle of vampire fiction has been covered. There are no original ideas left in this genre. All avenues for a fresh take on the undead have been discovered.
Well, that's what I thought until I read this short story.
I was hooked from the first page. You think you Know where the story is going until the author adds a twist . This was well written and the characters were well formed.
I was so hooked on this and could not put it down! This story had me guessing on the ending, but I never expected that! Stephen Jenkins never disappoints.
A well written short horror story. Die of an illness or live forever as a vampire? The choice is yours, but at what cost? Long life or purgatory? Easy quick read, loved it.
I don't usually read vampire books, I love a good horror book every now and again but I've never really got into vampire books so wasn't sure if this was something I would enjoy but I thought, what the heck, why not? And, I was pleasantly surprised because it wasn't what I expected at all - it was so much more.
The premise is quite simple really, Millie is happily married with 2 young children when she receives a devastating diagnosis meaning she has but months left to live. However, there is a cure ... become a vampire! Seems like a simple decision doesn't it? Not so for Millie - her mum was a vampire and it didn't end well so what will she do? And when you think you know what's going to happen, Mr Jenkins throws in a great twist which left me wanting more.
A great, quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed and that cover, wow ... eye-catching and creepy.
I am looking forward to reading more of Mr Jenkins work if this short story if anything to go by and I must thank him for making me a part of his Advance Reader Team but this in no way influenced my thoughts on this novella which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I don't usually read books about vampires, but this book is not the usual vampire story. The premise is unique and interesting. Millie is dying but there is a an expensive cure. The cost of medications to keep her human is exorbitant. What would you do? This story is exciting and I thought I knew how it would end but I was shocked. You will be also. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
A Cure for Everything had me sobbing as I sympathized with Millie. With two children, and a husband that need her, she has lung cancer and only have months to live. I did not like the switching back in time as it was confusing at first and I preferred the book to be set in real time. I LOVED THE BOOK, BUT I WANTED IT TO LAST LONGER AND LONGER AS I WAS NOT READY FOR IT TO END!!
As someone who doesn't normally read this type of material, I really enjoyed this. Not your everyday vampire story a very fresh look at a subject that in my opinion is very over done. This Author has a unique take on subjects that are other wise over played. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw.
The book was great, I know I will enjoy reading more from this Author. It was a pleasure to read and I really liked the new take on Vampires. I think you will enjoy this book as I did.
I recieved this ARC from the Author for an honest review.
A CURE FOR EVERYTHING by Steven Jenkins. Never get sick. Never get old. It’s great being a vampire… If you can afford it. Absolutely brilliant. I read this in one sitting. Twisty. I certainly didn't expect that. I loved the cover creepy. 5*.
Wildly imaginative! A clever and unique take on a Vampire story! Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Vivid descriptions. I felt every emotion. This was a fast-paced, addictive read, that I found I did not want to put down! If you like dark, absolutely unpredictable, twisted horror thrillers as much as I do, you can't go wrong with this book!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book from in order to read and provide a voluntary and honest review, should I choose to do so.
The shortness of the story caught me by surprised but how it ended was excellent. An interesting view on how vampires can be and what would we do for more time. If this is how the author's mind usually works I look forward reading his other books.
It is a novella so short was expected but it's not the 100 pages, e-reader of default font size, that Goodreads shows. The second half were summaries of his other books.
Long time Stephen King fan, cut my horror/vampire loving teeth with salem's lot when I was 11 years old. But this book here, A Cure For Everything managed to topple the king . I read it when first published, an advanced reader copy I think. And there has not been one single day since that I haven't thought about or reflected on the implications and relevancy to this bizarre world we live in. My most favorite book ever.
Imagine that there is a cure to make you healthy but at what cost? becoming a vampire. Millie has terminal cancer. she has a family, she wants to see her children grow up so she must make a decion, shes afraid she might go feral like her mother, what will she choose. Another great short story from Steven Jenkins.
I really like Steven Jenkins, he has a great imagination and the ability to add that unexpected twist at the end. This is a very quick read, but it's not a disappointing read and it leaves you wanting more from this author.
