The Liar's Club is about a men's club and helping "vulernable" or "malfunctioning" men correct their lives.

I liked a few things about this book, including the plot generally*. It is a multi-POV, fast paced murder mystery which is centred around many lies. I was intrigued and wanted to keep reading despite my dislikes.

I was a fan of the multi-POV being done well and the fact the MCs work in a music store. Discussion about good music and a reference to 27 club kept me reading, especially when the dialogue made me want to stop entirely.

I was not a fan of some of the writing. Almost all of Max, Emmy and Hudson's dialogue was cringe and hard to read. Fortunately, the plot (and music references) was good enough to keep me reading.

I also didn't like:
- *the premise that men need to not be themselves;
- predictable twist, and I rarely ever pick endings;
- the abrupt ending.

My opinions seem to differ a lot to reviews on here and I can understand that based on the story itself - so this one is probably one you want to check out further.

Thank you to Booksirens, the publisher and author for the free, advance review copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I flew through this book in less than 24 hours. I loved the short, alternating POV chapters and the fact that every single character had a secret.

The multiple-secret plot line reminded me a lot of Jaime Lynn Hendricks’ It Could Be Anyone (which was also a 5 star read for me!) but don’t worry you won’t be reading the same book twice, the rest of the plots are very different!

There were a couple really great twists that I definitely did not see coming, which is always a huge plus for me!

Thank you to @author_jamieleefry for my gifted copy! Wow! This has been one of the most refreshing and unique books I have read in a while. I absolutely flew through this because I had NO idea the direction this was going and everyone was literally sus. It starts out with a bang and keeps you hooked throughout!

Now, I enjoyed The Pretty Ones, Jamie’s first novel but I have to say she outdid herself with this one. There are several POVs in this story, which help keep the mystery going. It definitely keeps you on your toes. The character development was really rich for a thriller. You really had a good sense of the type of person Max (our main character) is. It also helped me root for him!

This is fast paced, suspenseful and full of some really good twists. Be prepared to stay up late!

Overview: Have been excited to read this one for so long! It's such an unusual premise for a book and the story was definitely gripping and twisty. A couple things I saw coming and a couple I certainly didn't! I really like Max as the main MC, but reading the different POV of other characters brought a new dimension to the plot.

Good points: I liked the different POV and the writing style was easy to read and each chapter left me wanting to read on. It really made me think about how far someone would go to fix themselves of the thing they hate the moment whether it be a physical or psychological thing. I basically didn't trust anyone in this book! Everyone kept lying and it culminated in a tense finale!

Not so good points: I really didn't like Ben (but then we're not supposed to). I did start to wonder why the hell these men didn't just not listen to him. I did get frustrated with Max and the others at some points.

A twisted thriller that exposes your weaknesses and pushes you to the limit to see how far you'd go to have the perfect life. Would you lie to get what you wanted?

This was my first book by the author and the character Max really hooked me in. He works in a record shop that is owned by Kade. He loves music and hates that people use it for social media pictures to appear cool. He is an old soul and doesn’t agree with it but when a regular customer doesn’t come in as usual he puts that aside in an attempt to find her.

Meanwhile Kade’s behaviour has changed for the worse and after a visit from a man called Ben, colleague Emmy and Max are worried. Young women are going missing and it all ties to Kade, Ben and the club that Max is now inadvertently involved in.

This was an easy read with characters that were solid. Max, Emmy and even Kade to a degree were likeable while the charismatic Ben felt like the devil himself. Has Kade sold his soul and is Max about to do the same?

Full of intrigue surrounding the club promises, my suspicions were raised by the too good to be true facade. These things always come at a cost eventually. While I did see some of the twists coming it was still a very enjoyable read that delivered more than I expected.

PUB DAY BOOK REVIEW- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts: Thank you so much to @author_jamieleefry for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is downright fantastic. I felt like the premise was one that hasn't been written about much so it made the plot unique and refreshing to me! I read this guy in two sittings because I just had to know what happened. The twist at the end was chefs kiss, perfection. If you're looking for a great thriller look no further then The Liars Club!

Another great book by Ms. Fry.

The prologue had me hooked, and although the first few chapters felt a bit slow considering the prologue, I realised a lot of character development was needed for the story once I reached the middle point. From there on, I couldn't finish the book quickly enough. Reading from Emmy's POV really shifted the story for me, and I am shocked to say ... I didn't suspect the twisted ending. LOVED IT!

That is where I will end my review, because saying more will include spoilers.

When I started reading The Liars' Club, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but what I discovered far exceeded my expectations. It was so much better than I could have ever imagined.

The Liars' Club centers around a group of men who lie. I’m not sure if I would use the word 'lie,' but to each their own. I see it more as creating a new person to get what they want out of life, to become the person they want to be—whether good or bad.

Girls are being murdered all over town. Are these murders connected to The Liars' Club in any way? What is the real motive behind the men’s club? Is a member of the club the murderer? Or is the killer someone outside the club?

The world-building in this story is exceptionally well-executed. The plot is easy to follow, but it keeps its secrets, revealing them slowly and leaving you in suspense as the story takes different turns chapter after chapter. The mystery also plays a crucial role in keeping me hooked, as I try to piece everything together.

I highly recommend The Liars' Club to all thriller fans! Grab a copy today to see what The Liars' Club is all about!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Max is an unassuming, lowly employee at a record store who looks up to Kade, his boss and owner of the store who has a serious drinking problem. Max follows Kade one night in an attempt to find out where he goes and what he does, hoping to help him. When he jumps in to ‘save’ Kade at a secret meeting he enters THE LIARS CLUB. Charismatic Ben, the leader of the club seems to know so much about each of the members and promises to help them all with their ‘malfunctions’. They enter a game where each is given a target and all will be awarded to the winner.

All the while, the town is experiencing a spate of murders of young women and Kade is the main suspect. But once the members begin comparing their secrets and lies (which had been strictly forbidden), they join forces to help Kade and bring the real culprit to the surface.

Jamie Lee Fry does a masterful job of connecting all of the dots to reach a jaw-dropping picture of obsession, extortion and intrigue. WELL DONE!

I really enjoyed this book. It was different from some of my other reads but it was a good read.

Max ends up joining a men’s club, where members are encouraged to lie to get what they want or “fake it until you make it” as Ben, the very unlikeable leader of this club, likes to quote. Max joins in an attempt to save his boss Kade after following him and eavesdropping on a conversation.

Members are told they can’t discuss club business with each other or outsiders but Max and Hudson, another new recruit break the rules and Emmy, another employee of Kade’s is also roped in. They’re not falling for Ben’s spiel and between them they plot to bring Ben and the club down to save their friend Kade

I enjoyed the multiple points of view chapters and how they overlapped. I did see some things coming but other twists I had no idea about.

The ending came as a surprise but not an unpleasant one.

I’ve not read any books by this author before but I will be looking out for more.

This book is a thriller with the main characters being Max and Kade. Max works in a record store owned by Kade and has a great love of music. Kade has been acting erratic lately and Emmy, who also works at the store, begins to notice. One day this odd man (Ben) comes into the store looking for Kade and leaves his business card. As well there is a serial killer who is killing women in town. Who is it? Max who has a secret past, Kade who get drunk and has had sex with some of these women that are getting killed? Is Ben involved?

This is the second book that I read by Jamie Lee Fry, and she didn't disappoint yet again. I loved The Pretty Ones but I think somehow this one was even better as I had a hard time putting this book down and was eager to finish it.

I highly recommend this book if you like thrillers with a bit of mystery. The book is fast paced and great to read. It's not gory or scary but kept me reading and wanting to see where the next twist was going. I would rate this book a 9/10. I hope you'll consider supporting this independent author.

I received an advance copy of this book from Booksirens and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved the concept of this . A club run by a charismatic individual "Ben" who swoops in and rescues men who are desperate and down on their luck. He promises to mould them into their true selves with the statement "fake it until you become it" however unsurprisingly all is not as it seems and there is a price to pay....

The book is well written and easy to read, with chapters from various characters points of view and various times. The characters are well fleshed out with good back stories and clear motivation which i really liked.

The plot is gripping and fast moving if somewhat farfetched however I honestly didn't care as I just enjoyed a brilliant story! This was my first read by this author and I'll definitely be looking out for more books as thoroughly enjoyed this one and highly recommend.

Very unique premise and well written. The Liar's Club kept me guessing the entire time, which I love in a thriller. I found the characters to be very believable, especially Ben as head of the club. The multiple view points and short chapters made for a quick read and added different voices to the experience.

I loved the questions posed in this book as well: how far would you go to keep your secrets? Does lying "pay off" in making life better?

The only thing I didn't like was that I didn't get pulled in as quickly as a lot of others seemed to. The last 100 pages was the hook point for me. However, totally worth the read if able to stick with it.

What a thrill! Fry didn't disappoint with this psychological thriller that leaves you wanting more and more. Max's life is in shambles and his last hope is through joining the liar's club or so he thinks, then begins the rollercoaster of missing women, murder, investigators on his tail, and a club he didn't even want to join in the first place. The rules are clearly laid out, find out their secret or else…

The book switches between multiple characters which was much appreciated and Fry's character development and plot were seamless. Hard to believe the whole novel takes place within a month, and progresses that quickly. Loved every second of it!

This book was really gripping from early on! 400 pages & I finished it within 2 days.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys psych thrillers, or who is looking for a change of pace and excitement in their book reading journey!

This was a fantastic read overall with twists and turns - most of which I didn’t see coming. Giving it 4 and not 5 stars ONLY because I did feel like it ended abruptly and I would have loved to see a little more right at the end, but that’s just me being picky. ;)

This is not a book I would normally reach for, but after reading The Liars Club by the same author, I knew I would love this one too! I already can’t wait to read her next novel!

Emmy and Max work at a Record store with their boss and friend, Kade. Kade has been acting very strange, which is unlike him. Both Max and Emmy are concerned for Kade, especially since there’s a killer on the loose that’s killing young women in their area. Kade can’t possibly be mixed in with that, can he? Max, being worried for Kade’s well being, follows his every move and what he finds is a secret club that people are drawn into but can never leave.

I finished this book in one day, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! I loved the multiple POV’s and was completely surprised by the ending!

When Max’s boss starts acting strange, he follows him and accidentally gets pulled into a club. The members of this club are assigned seemingly innocent tasks on a game with no idea how the game ends. Not to mention that young women from their town start to show up murdered in a similar way.

This book kept me hooked! I really enjoyed.

Max somewhat unwittingly wanders into a life altering circumstance. Little did he know that the club has been waiting for him all along.

Going in to this book I thought it was an unique concept and was looking forward to the ride. It at first took me a bit to get into but I am glad I stuck with it and found myself binging it to the end.

WOW!! What a book.

I could actually leave it at that, as it basically succinctly conveys how I felt about this book, in 4 words.

Small criticism, the ending felt just a tad rushed, based on the build up.

Such good character development, clever, twisty little book this was. Really had me guessing what the ultimate end game was.

Loved this book, highly recommended.

What a thriller this was. Full of intrigue, betrayal, mystery and above all ... lies. Told from different character's point of view, I was appreciative of the fact that it was clearly understood which of the characters was talking. Written in a pretty straight forward manner and, once all the characters are introduced, the story moved at a nice brisk pace. I would definitely read this author again.

A page turner and a great fall-weather-cozy-settle-in read. Jamie Lee Fry's sophomore book is uniquely different from her first book, The Pretty Ones. But what is the same is that it is a page turner with an "Ah-ha!" ending. And once again, though very different characters, I find myself liking the unexpected characters the most. This is a great fall weather cozy up read.

Thé Liar's Club is a men's club. It’s meant to help those men that lack self-esteem. But the men who join, aren’t aware of it's membership fee. And what happens if they don't want to play?

This book was skillfully written and woven into an incredible story line.

A real escape read. The writing is phenomenal, and the description of people and details makes you feel like you are there.

I read the author’s debut novel and loved it, so I’ve been excited to read this book. It was a brilliant read that I raced through in a few days. The plot is original, and the characters are well developed. The different POVs made for an interesting read, and the twists were very well done. I’m looking forward to reading more from this talented author.

inhaled this one so fast, nothing like a thriller to get you out of a reading slump. most of the twists were predictable, but i still had a good time reading this. wish this could have gone through another round or two of revisions though.

now i need to read something lighthearted and pretend that men like this don’t exist in real life :] 3.5 stars.
