G.K. DeRosa

G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.

DNF At around 4 hours (Audio Book)

I thought I was walking into something completely different than what I actually got. The mystery is fun and all but when both main characters are in the dark for the sake of being in the dark it gets tiresome. The hero also rubbed me in all the wrong ways and gave me the ICK. I enjoy morally grey and anti0hero type characters. This guy on the other hand crosses the line into thinking that assault and rape are okay if he wants it bad enough. The heroine also . After I read that she lost all my respect.

* This review sums up my thoughts very well.

This whole series is a big no for me.

TW: mentions of r*pe

This book, I think, doesn't know how to properly blend the lines between villain and anti-hero. The other books in this world have been fascinating and there was always empathy for the 'bad boys.' For this one it is unclear who, precisely the love interest is but his casual discussions of maybe not being able to help himself... is just so gross and unnecessary. The entire story could still function with just having him be possessive-- with the added bonus of making the reader more sympathetic to Thane's plight. I think maybe the author was trying to show some sort of dualism but it just reads as sometimes he's a dude that thinks kidnapping and r*ape are ok, and sometimes think it's appalling. I hope the next one is less like this because right now the only likeable characters are the ones that aren't mains.

I read this book because I realized I committed to an ARC of book 2 when I hadn't read the first one yet. This story is about Atropos and Thanatos, and a curse put on them by Hecate and Luna to be star crossed lovers for all eternity. They are currently living as Astra and Thane. Astra is a human female while this time around Thanatos has appeared as Thane, the son of the alpha demon wolf. Just so happens, Thane sees Astra, and she is his fated mate. This is book 1 in an unfinished series. Book 2, Death's Fate, is about to be released.

I was very confused through most of this book. Most of it was because I was not familiar with these two particular Greek myths. I know of the Three Fates, but I did not make the connection for quite a while. I felt the story was too muddled and very repetitive. The bulk of the story was the same scene over and over again until the end, which ends on a cliff hanger. I was not a fan of this story at all. I had to force myself through it so I could read my ARC.

I will mention this in my review for book 2 as well, but, maybe it is my ADHD, but I notice repetitions in words and I hone in on it like a hawk. So, I am quite honestly over the following descriptive words: azure orbs/eyes, lupine, and coalescence. Literally do not want to see them anymore. Surely there are other words.... we get it, he is a wolf and has wolfish features when he is a wolf. Again, it could be my ADHD that I noticed it way too many times.

So why did I give it 3 stars instead of lower? No, not because I was given a free ARC. I fully recognize that maybe I did not like this particular writing style, or something just didn't connect with me. I really like Azar and the stories she has produced. I kind of got a late start with this realm, but the writing style of this book was very different from the introduction to G.K. DeRosa that I got. Reading other people's reviews, it looks like, while it is not fully necessary, I should have read another series first to learn more about these two. There are snippets of memories throughout the story from their past times together.

There is a lot of sexual tension in the book with no explosion, and it was kind of a let down. I have read some spicier bits from her, so it was kind of a let down. It feels like DeRosa is just kind of dipping her toes in but not really ready to jump in. The one scene we had was very short and Astra tucked tail and RAN. So, that is where we are left.

Mehhh. I liked the concept, but it was repetitive and back and forth. The storyline would finally make progress to just go back to square one. Then just ends on cliffhanger of basically how the whole story began.

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook! It was moving and sexy!

I loved the Dual POV! The narrators did a fabulous job of snatching the listener through the earbud and bringing them into the story! I cried at the heartache Anya/Astra felt after losing Killian the terror that Death brings with his “Come to me Addie” phrase is bone chilling! DeRosa wrote wonderful side characters that you loved to love and hate! The cliffhanger left me on the edge of my seat!

I just loved this slow burn enemies to lovers romance and I can’t wait to listen to more stories narrated by Allie Shae & Eric Michael Summerer! I need more from G.K. Derosa, Book 2 can’t get here fast enough!!

I gave this one star because I liked the narrators that performed the audiobook. The narrator that did Astra had a lovely voice that felt perfect for a fantasy/paranormal story.

Other than that I really didn’t care for this book. I didn’t care for the characters, they didn’t have any chemistry other than his awful ‘animalistic urges’. Thane gave off really creepy, obsessive, stalker vibes with his only saving grace being that he was good with consent.

Astra was annoying, wishy washy, and the sexier aspects of the book made me uncomfortable because she was so young.

In terms of the sexy stuff it was a whole lot of sexual tension in this book with almost nothing that actually happens.

And in terms of the plot nothing actually happened? There really was no reason for this book despite the cool concept.

Okay, I am absolutely obsessed with this book. I am obsessed. G.K. DeRosa, just take all of my money and keep writing this series forever because I cannot deal.

The book dedication was “to all the girls who love the villain” and I have been heard. I have been HEARD.

This is my favourite thing that I’ve read in a while, I don’t think I’ll be able to shut up about it and, yes, it was perfect therapy after Shadow and Bone season two.

Death’s Captive contained all of my favourite tropes and I am just absolutely in love. You have Astra, who can only recall the past year of her life and is protected by three wolves under the goddess Luna, adamant on protecting her from Death as she has countless lifetimes before — and you have Thane, a Demon wolf whose past is hazy, the only clarity being that Astra is his mate and the two of them are meant to be together. I find it so fascinating that Astra references reading Wuthering Heights, because “whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same” works absolutely perfectly between those two.

There was just something adorable about the fact that the two of them have had lifetimes of angst, love, lust and ruin and yet, the moment the two of them are both at a blank slate, they still find each other and they’re drawn to each other. It was so fascinating to see that played out with the irony of their comments and their memories — I just felt as if it was so well done and I just was captivated and in love with the idea straight away. It’s all of my favourite tropes weaved together into something spectacular.

Both the plot twists at the beginning and the end of the novel keep you engaged and I really haven’t read anything like it. I can’t wait to see what happens next: I’ll be reading book two straight away, and I’m not too sure how I’m going to manage until the end of April to see how Attie and Thanatos’ story ends.

They’re both just living rent free in my head right now. They’re definitely a new favourite fictional pairing.

Also, I’ve been incredibly impatient recently and I’ve struggled with slow burns, but this slow burn works so well; the flashbacks and the tension and the angst are crafted in a way that keeps you yearning for more, and it was just *chef’s kiss.*

Anyway, I 100090% recommend this. Further thoughts can be seen on my highlights and notes as I feel like this review is slowly becoming a spiralled mess of me freaking out about how good this series is, because I am hooked.

Holy Reaper Babies!!!
Get ready, ladies and gents! OF GODS AND WOLVES: Death’s Captive is book 1 in this new series by G.K. DeRosa and it’s darker and spicier than her previous works set in the world of Azar (though you don’t have to read the other series first to enjoy this one). While most of her series have been in the young adult paranormal/fantasy romance category, this one is new adult dark paranormal romance with darker themes and more schmexy times. The book is also written in the present tense with more complex verbiage and a fair number of flashbacks – all spine-tingling and heart-tugging. With her usual flair G.K. delivers a world full of romance, intrigue, humor, and snark, and wraps it all up in a fantasy world we easily get lost in. And no G.K. book would be complete without that heart-palpitating cliffhanger. (Thank goodness for that teaser at the end!)

DEATH'S CAPTIVE takes place about one year after the events of VAMPish: BLOOD MATE, and we are introduced to Astra, an innocent and naive girl with amnesia who is protected by the goddess Luna and has triplet Mystic wolves as bodyguards. I know!!? What more could a girl ask for? We find out right away that the brothers have been tasked with hiding Astra from Death, but something has gone very wrong with the spell to banish Thanatos. Meanwhile, Astra meets Thane, the broody, smexy, (spoiler) demon pack alpha heir with mesmerizing eyes and some major control issues. Don’t be surprised if you hate him for most of the book and then find yourself swooning by the end… this is a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers trope after all! While Astra fights her feelings for Thane and he figures out how to get a handle on his wolf, both have special powers emerge and a past that comes to light through their exploits, as well as those flashbacks that are so strategically placed.

This book is perfect for those who enjoy reading about…
• Enemies-to-Lovers
• Morally Grey Villains
• Cinnamon Roll FMC’s
• Dual POV’s
• One Bed
• Cursed Lovers
• Vengeful Goddesses
• Overprotective Wolf Packs
• Fated Mates
• Touch Her and D!e Vibes

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to Book 2: Death’s Fate (slated to release Feb. 1, 2023). Happy Reading!!!!

GK has done it again with a new series which will keep you turning the pages to see what will happen next!

Astra is attracted to a man on the first day of classes at school but soon finds herself kidnapped by him as
he tells her she is his fated mate. The story goes from enemies to lovers but there are strange dreams that each have that they can’t understand. The reader has a suspicion about these two and it is confirmed at the end of this book but the tale is far from over! Astra and Thane have done this dance for hundreds of centuries but can this curse be broken?
That’s the thing that will make you want to read the next books in this series as jealousy and magical powers have combined to keep these two separated because of that curse that was put on them.

You’ll enjoy this read as you get caught up in this story as as you figure out who these two people are and if they can break this curse that was put on them.

I recommend this book and recommend you look into
GK’s other series as well for they will cast a spell over you as you read them also. The stories have action, adventure, romance, suspense, and people who have no idea who they really are and why they have strange powers. The stories will captivate you and hold your interest!

You’ll not regret reading this book or any of GK’s other series so give it a read and join her loyal fans who can’t get enough of her stories! You’ll find you’re in good company with an author you won’t want to put down!

Great book as always by this author, Thanos God Of Death has been searching and loving Astra through many lives and centuries, she always gets away from his torture. Their idea of love seems to be different.
Astra has no memory of her earlier life, all she know is that she is protected by three very handsome and sexy wolf shifters, triplets too. They have been protecting her for over a year now, she has no idea why or from what only that the Goddess Luna has asked them to do so and she appears to Astra and tells her to beware of Death, what can she mean? Everyone dies don't they. Maybe so but not like Astra who over many centuries and lives has had many names and has always ended up as a captive of the God Of Death Thanos, these are the memories she has no access to.
She also has a strange tattoo on her arm of a pair of scissors and a reel of thread which she finds has a strange power to change her circumstances and location, but she has no real idea how to use it or what it can really do.
Then a new Alpha heir comes to the shifter valley, he is Thane and the heir to the Demon Wolf Shifter's who were created by vampires and are the enemy of the triplets and their pack. But Astra is strangely drawn to him and he to her.
What is happening, and why. I am now on book 2 of this series and can't wait to read the next instalment

This book can be a bit confusing at first until you adapt to the concept of different POVs at play with various names but feature the same person telling stories from their other lives. It's therefore important to keep track of which character is being highlighted at the beginning of each chapter: Adeline, Astra, Thane, Anya, Amara, Attie, and one chapter featuring Remus.

I had not previously encountered Thane in any of the earlier series, which didn't surprise me since it’s a new character name associated with an old soul that we meet in the Vampish series, much like Astra. However, I do remember Viceroy and his father from the Wolfish series, particularly during the motorcycle incident when Sierra first came across Viceroy.

When it comes to the main characters, Thane appears to embody the typical possessive alpha male trope seen in other stories, sometimes coming off as quite barbaric. On the other hand, Astra seems naive and acts more like a follower; she rarely questions things and frequently changes her mind, which can be a bit frustrating.

The narrative has your mind busy thinking of all the possibilities of why Attie needs to hide from Thanatos. The ending certainly hits hard; to me, it's a tragic love story. I can't wait to see what unfolds next now that we understand the underlying reason for the events.

*All of my reviews are voluntarily written*

This is a spin-off series in the world of Azar. If you start with the Vampish series, you'll get a hint of the two main characters in this first book in a new series. It's its own story, though.

This book strays beyond the YA books G.K. has done previously, so be aware of that before reading.

Astra is on the run from Death, but she doesn't remember anything before being found by 3 Mystic bodyguards. In the meantime, Astra ends up meeting a wolf who she can't keep her eyes off of, and she notices this weird attraction from day one.

Thane has just recently been called back to his father's pack. He has, up until this point, been a rogue wolf and living with other rogue wolves. When he meets Astra, there is something drawing him to her.

As things start to happen, Astra and Thane get thrown together and the plot goes from there.

I really enjoyed the characters and overall story (especially looking for more information with that last cliff hanger bit, G.K.) :) I loved how the author wove in little bits about each of the characters, like Astra's mark and her interesting habit she has. I'm eagerly awaiting book 2!

Looking for an enemies to lovers, but also fated mates, touch her and die type of story? Vengeful Gods and protective, guardian wolves? Well, look no further! Thanks to G.K., you can get all of that right here in this incredible story!

Astra just wants a somewhat normal life. She wants to be 18. She wants to do normal things, people her age do. Like attend University, makes friends, maybe meet a boy, and also learn more about the world she lives in! Since she can only remember as far back as a year or so. With no memories or any sort of explanations as to why.. But how can you do all of those things when you’re overprotective guardians won’t let you go out and live? And why are they keeping all these secrets from her… Little does she know that she’s about to find out all of that and more!

Enter Thane, fresh from the human world and the Demon Packs rightful heir... Handsome, mysterious, and pretty cocky, he just can’t seem to take his eyes off Astra. Why is he so drawn to her? And vice versa.. could it be the mate bond? Or something more? Thane’s wolf seems to go into overdrive and decides to kidnap Astra.. maybe that’s not quite the way to win over a girls heart, but he sure doesn’t care. Maybe spending a few days with her away from her protectors, she’ll give into the mage bond and become his.

But Astra belongs to another, Death.. It just so happens that her new mate and her previous enemy/lover may have a few things in common.. how will Astra handle that?

She’s been running from Death for centuries.
Two souls that have been intertwined since the beginning of time. Will she be able to escape? Will she want to?

I’m so looking forward to book 2! 😍

Astra gets on my nerves a bit. She doesn’t have all of the facts yet she is prone to make snap judgements. That’s the entire book. She so easily trusts her protectors even though they hide so much from her. They hide her identity from her, indicate that she must be protected from Death not knowing why. She acts like a willing captive with people who hide everything from her. This made me so infuriated. Given the opportunity to leave, she fights to get back to them. She’s seems so dependent in everyone around her and incapable of making rational decisions of her own.

Thane is also annoying. He has no control of his emotions and loses his mind when something happens to Astra. Like literally loses his mind. Will try to kill anyone for threatening her. And I don’t mind possessiveness but the way his possessiveness is depicted is truly annoying as if he can’t control his actions is annoying.

Thane and Astra

I've been excited to read this trilogy after meeting Astra in Vampish but I'll admit this book confused me a bit at times with the back and forth with the timeline and names. I was trying to figure out if this was before after or at the same time as vampish. But I'm excited to see where this story goes and am loving the back story of their love and how Luna who keeps hiding her is just a woman scorned.

Having no memories before the last year of her life Astra is destined to continually restart her life in a different body. The goddess Luna keeps her safe from the man who wishes to own her. Death. He too takes on a new form each time but they are always drawn to each other in every life until they fall in love and then they're once again ripped away from each other. Will they ever break free of the vicious cycle they're in? Only time will tell.

This was one addictive book that captivates as it's draws you in. Betrayal, lust, revenge, star-crossed lovers, protective vibes and steamy scenes leave you wishing for more. The gods are wreaking havoc as love blooms and forgotten events rise to the surface.

First of all, my heart was rent in two. I couldn't decide whom it was that I wanted to see Astra end up with. But Thane... he's dark, mysterious and so very alluring. One big bowl of yummy topped with delight.

If you crave an intriguing plot with descriptive world building and revisiting past characters, you should absolutely pick this series beginner up. It's delicious and angsty with one glorious cover. I can't wait to see how these two meant to be characters conquer fate.

This book had me so hooked that I finished it in less than 48 hours once I started. I am always a sucker for a mythological/God's/reincarnation story, and this was no exception. I loved seeing how Astra and Thane navigated their budding relationship, even though neither of them fully understand what is drawing them together. I also loved the little flashbacks of their previous lives/loves and seeing it from a dual POV was great.

It is a slow burn and end on a cliffhanger, so I NEED the next book to come out like tomorrow. 😂
But for real, I cannot wait for more of this story, and I'll be not so patiently waiting until February. I highly recommend everyone reads this book.

If you are a paranormal romance fan and have not read G.K Derosa then I highly recommend you do. I always fall head over heels for her characters and her writing is always fantastic. I adore both the main characters Astra and Thane. I am a huge Astra and Thane shipper. I need them to end up together. My favorite scene was when Thane comforts Astra during a thunderstorm.

If you love werewolves and mythology this is the perfect book for you. This book is a dark romance so be sure to look up trigger warnings. I don’t want to say much about the plot or story but trust me they are excellent. This is one of those books I feel you should go into blind. You will enjoy it more. This is the most steamy first book I have read by G.K. Derosa and thought the scenes were sexy and well done. I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait for the next book coming out in February of next year.

We met Thanatos in the author's last series and now the God of Death gets his story told. Astra is protected by three wolves and has only fleeting memories of the past. When she meets Thane sparks fly. She doesn't know whether to hate him or love him, but he isn't the God she's been warned about so she throws a little caution to the wind. A fantastic read set in the world of Azar. Lots of twists and turns with some familiar faces and some new. A page turner to the end. I volunteered to read this book via booksprout.

Fantastic start

Okay, so I literally only put this book down because I forced myself to shower for bed. Then I picked it back up and finished it before falling asleep. Was too sucked in not to finish it. It was dark, it was schmexy, it was definitely not YA. But I am here for it. I loved the dual POVs and getting to know Astra and Thane through their complex relationship. And that info drop right before the end….. can’t wait to see how that turns out. Beautifully written series that has me completely hooked.

Fated mates, bits of mythology, over protective wolf guards…

I thoroughly enjoyed this read and immediately went for the second book in the series. I love that you get POVs from multiple characters. For some reason, I enjoy knowing what the characters are feeling for each other rather than the one-sided view. I DID feel like there was a little *too* much play into the pain portion for a virgin, however, everyone is different. I cannot wait to see how things play out between Astra and Thane…or is it Attie and Thanatos? 🤔

I really love the world concept in this, I jus think it takes quite a long time to get through it. A lot happens in this whilst at the same time very little happens.

Whilst I did sort of enjoy it and I'm interested to see how it works out, I kind of just want the answers, the journey to get them feels a bit long. Especially now they are separated again.

Also, did Astra not see Atties memory at the end there? Because that would have made me run towards Thane not away...

It's a fun read and a fun concept, but not capturing my imagination completely.

A delicious read! Death and Fate together, let the games begin. Astra/Fate is running from Death but the attraction will always be there and a jealous God sentenced them to death together. Astra is on the run with three wolf guards to try to prevent that from happening. Now a wolf wants to claim Astra as his mate and the guards have their hands/paws full trying to keep them apart. Great storytelling!

WHY!?

I don’t understand. This book started out awesome and then halfway through it just turned into nonsense. Whiny nonsense. And the ending was rubbish. The fact that there’s two more books about this is shocking. I think I’m more annoyed than anything that this could’ve been an epic story because the writing was good. The idea was good. The steam was good. It was just such a whiny juvenile book. Such a bummer.

It started off slow, and it took me a week to get into it after stopping and starting.

However once you get around 30% through it starts picking up to Death that you meet in Vampish. I’m so glad I stuck through it as I love Death, I can’t wait to see what happens next. The ending killed me! I started screaming when I read the last chapter. I’m so sad to be going to work now as I want to keep reading. At least I have tomorrow off to binge book 2&3 together.
