In recent months, exciting changes began happening on the World Wide Web. More services and features were becoming available, but most Internet users were unaware of this new potential until the “Net Generation” began embracing these new Web-based tools. Within months, the business community, educators and casual Internet users found these tools invaluable to communication, collaboration, and research.
What is becoming commonplace in the business world needs to be embraced by the educational community for both learning and personal use. The established worker in the business world needs to become comfortable to the online tools and experiences that the younger workers bring to the workforce.
Exploring Web 2.0 contains a detailed index, a glossary, and Works Cited. Links to additional resources will be incorporated into each chapter and topic so that readers can further research the topic. Chapter 1 provides the history, background, and current overview of Web 2.0. It will
demystify the current jargon connected with this latest web phenomenon.
Chapter 2 provides the background and uses of RSS feeds, the main building block of Web 2.0. Chapter 3 continues by exploring the use of metadata, tags, tag clouds, and folksonomy, which are the strength of this latest technology. Chapter 4 applies tags, tag clouds, and metadata to online bookmarks while chapter five applies them to online photo libraries.
Chapters 6, 7, and 8 cover the use of blogs, podcasts, vodcasts, and screencasts on the web. The same underlying technology applies to each of these online formats except one is based primarily on text, one on audio, and the others on video.
Chapter 9 covers the strengths of utilizing and developing wikis as a collaboration tool. Chapter 10 covers the development and uses of Mash-ups for educational and informational purposes. Using mash-ups stimulate creativity as they combine data from a variety of sources to
create an entirely different program.
Chapter 11 explores the development and advantages of using a Virtual Office and online storage space. Chapter 12 explores the possibilities of e-learning course management systems and a variety of online training tools. A special emphasis is placed on Moodle, a free, Open Source
software package designed to help educators create effective online learning communities.
Chapter 13 provides the background and development of social networking, its impact on sharing news and information to a schools’ community, as well as using online social networking for career development.
Chapter 14 delves into the background and development of SecondLife and other interactive sites. These multi-user environments can be incorporated into the curriculum, used for personal training, as well as being utilized within the business community.
Chapter 15 introduces the reader to the multiple communications features of Web 2.0. A simple computer microphone and webcam are becoming vital hardware tools for online corporate meetings, group collaboration, or personal communications.

Mrs. Bell started her writing career by authoring a series of nine books for Heartsong Presents (Autumn Love, Contagious Love,Inspired Love, Distant Love, Healing Love, Compassionate Love, Love Remembered, Love Abounds, and Mended Wheels). Barbour Press republished the first four books into one volume "Montana" and the second four into "Montana Skies." Those eight books were reprinted in large print by Thorndike Press.

A native of Adel, Iowa, Mrs. Bell received a B.A. degree from the University of Northern Iowa, a Library Media Endorsement from the University of Montana, and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Hawaii.
