Another great book by Sherri L. King.

Raven's parents put her through a portal to earth when she was an infant ,to keep her save from genocide. After spending years in orphanages and foster homes she finally has a foster family that cares for her. No one wanted her because she is a child prodigy who at age 9 is already in college. When she is 15 years old her foster families home is burned down and the family is killed. Raven was awakend by a black Hawk telling her to get out.
Insteadt of being able to grief for her loss Raven has to flee and hide because she has enemies and they made it look like she started the fire. While on the run Raven discovers that she has special powers. She is telepatic and shoots fire and electricty through her hands.

Thirteen years later Raven is captured and taken to the planet Varood. There she comes face to face with General Karis. Reading his thoughts she knows that he killed her family. After she escapes she is guided by a black Hawk to a place where she discovers she is an Aware and that there are more people like her. Raven learns that she is the empress of this race and that she is needed to fight General Karis and his army. She is also the only one who can locate other Awares who fled through a portal to safety.
The black Hawk is Draco who is also an Aware and a shapeshifter. Raven feels attracted to him but those two don't make love until pretty much at the end of the book. The sexual tension was great. This was a very good book. It had a great plot, steamy romance, lots of mystery and magic.

A good read once although I liked the Shikar books better. The whole " I can fix this because I am super-Empress" was a little off-putting...
