1. Wolf’s Law by Cheyenne McCray. Okay story about a werewolf coming upon a woman sold into slavery and falling in love/lust. 3 stars.
2. Scarlet Sweet by Anya Bast. The fae separate to separate planets and find themselves in dire straights. One has the potential to be "embraced" which makes her something more and maybe finding someone more. Good story. 3 stars.
3. Writers Unblocked by Diana Hunter. A couple who have been married for two years finally come clean about what floats their boat. 3 stars.
3. Looking Forward by Mary Wine. Colonists come to a planet and one of the women becomes an unwanted widow until the planet's inhabitants get a look at her. Good story. 3-1/2 stars.
4. Raptor's Prey by Delilah Devlin. He's part of a dream but he's not. They have sex in these dreams but she's not sure if it's real because he ended one talk with a really cryptic remark. And what's up with the hawk? 2-1/2 stars.
5. Voyeurs Overexposed by Sherri L. King. People living under Earth's crust fight evil and try to stop humans from finding out. One of the Shikar meets a photographer who took pictures of a battle. Why they sent this girl, I have no idea. Okay story. 3 stars.
Six stories from 4.5 stars to 2 stars, and ranging from romantic to erotic.
4.5 stars for WOLF’S LAW by Cheyenne McCray. Very good, very nice, feel good story. Passionate lovemaking. Analeen was kidnapped by two men who planned to rape her and sell her. Law is a shape-shifting wolf/man who rescues her.
DATA: Story length: 41 pages. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 2. Length of sex scenes: 2.7 and 8 pages. Setting: unspecified time in a forest. Copyright: 2004. Genre: paranormal romance.
OTHER BOOKS: To date, I’ve read one other book by Cheyenne McCray. My 3 star review of “Chosen Prey” Copyright 2007 was posted 6/28/08.
4.5 stars for LOOKING FORWARD by Mary Wine. STORY BRIEF: Earth is overpopulated. Some humans traveled to another planet where land is available to buy. An Amish-type community goes there. They need to pay something to the Tailarmarian people to buy the land. Leah is part of the community. Her husband recently died. The Tailarmarians come to accept payment, and Leah finds herself attracted to one of them. The Tailarmarians decide to take Leah as payment since they have a shortage of women. The Tailarmarian views and customs about sex are very different from the community Leah came from.
REVIEWER’S OPINION: Well done. It had me chuckling. There is a very hot sex scene. I like the way Aaron reads Leah’s mind during sex which directs his actions. He is arrogant but he cherishes her. The story is different from most of what I read, and I continued thinking about it afterwards.
DATA: Story length: 42 pages. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: 3. Length of sex scenes: 1.1 to 6.4 pages. Total number of sex scene pages: 10. Setting: unspecified future time on the Tailarman planet. Copyright: 2004. Genre: fantasy romance.
3 stars for WRITERS UNBLOCKED by Diana Hunter. STORY BRIEF: Two romance novel authors are married to each other and in love. They each have a private fantasy that they don’t act on and have never told each other. She wants to be tied up and suffer pain. He wants to do that.
REVIEWER’S OPINION: Good but not as good as the author’s other stories, probably because it was so short with not enough time to develop characters and emotions.
DATA: Story length: 27 pages. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 3. Length of sex scenes: 1.5 to 14.5 pages. Total number of sex scene pages: 17. Setting: current day unspecified location. Copyright: 2004. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.
OTHER BOOKS: For a list of my reviews of other Diana Hunter books, see my 5 star review of “Table for Four” posted 12/13/08.
2.5 stars for VOYEURS: OVEREXPOSED by Sherri L. King. STORY BRIEF: Shikars live in secret, underneath the surface of the earth’s crust. Daemons feed on humans. The Shikar men go above ground to fight Daemons to protect the humans. The Shikars do this in secret. They don’t want humans to know that the Shikars and Daemons exist. Alek is a human who took pictures of some Shikars fighting Daemons. Agate is a Shikar woman who goes above ground with the objective of getting all of his photos and negatives and then removing his memory of these things.
REVIEWER’S OPINION: This was an odd little story. It was ok, but I wasn’t surprised or delighted. Not much time was spent on plot or characters. It seemed mostly about the sex.
DATA: Story length: 58 pages. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 2. Length of sex scenes: 3 and 11 pages. Setting: current day beneath the earth and in Paris, France. Copyright: 2004. Genre: paranormal romance.
OTHER BOOKS: For a list of my reviews of other Sherri L. King stories, see my 5 star review of “Bedtime, Playtime” posted 4/02/08.
2.5 stars for SCARLET SWEET by Anya Bast. STORY BRIEF: Different humanoid species live on another planet. Cerian is leader of the Danaan people who have rich crystal mines. Ta’bat is leader of the Sarthian people. He plans to force Cerian to marry him so he can have the crystal. Rhys is a vampire (vampire) who comes to help Cerian.
REVIEWER’S OPINION: It was ok, but if it was a stand-alone book I wouldn’t recommend it. I wasn’t thrilled. It didn’t pull me emotionally. The beginning requires concentration and note taking about all the different species and conflicts going on. That set up might be more appropriate for a longer story, but not for such a short story as this.
DATA: Story length: 49 pages. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 4. Length of sex scenes: 1 to 5 pages. Total number of sex scene pages: 12. Setting: future on another planet. Copyright: 2004. Genre: paranormal romance.
OTHER BOOKS: To date, I’ve read one other book by Anya Bast. My 1 star review of “The Chosen Sin” Copyright 2008 was posted 10/12/08.
2 stars for RAPTOR’S PREY by Delilah Devlin. STORY BRIEF: Andromeda is Captain of her own small ship. She was hired to transport a prisoner to another planet by her government. While they are both in suspension chambers during the trip, he psychically enters her dreams.
REVIEWER’S OPINION: It was ok, but nothing surprised or delighted me. There was a lot of sex scene description, but I wasn’t emotionally drawn in enough.
DATA: Story length: 46 pages. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 6. Length of sex scenes: 2 to 7 pages. Total number of sex scene pages: 23. Setting: in the future on a spaceship and on another planet. Copyright: 2004. paranormal romance.
Sólo leí una de las cuatro historias que están en este libro. Una típica historia romántica entre una damisela en peligro y su Salvador, nada del otro mundo.
Here's why I DNF. The start of story. She is being dragged on ground by bad men that want to rap her. Can't tell time period, either. Don't get no info on the why. Law in wolf form comes across the whole thing. Of course, he gets rid of them, saves her. Her ordeal, she's out for 3 days, fever. When she comes too, in his arms, some fear but lust trumps fear in a few pages. Of course, Law, "I won't hurt you." And you can guess how it ends. My view, wrong idea when bringing 2 people together. Even though this is Fiction!
What's better than a book...take Anthologies! Stories in one! Among all the books, the one that I enjoyed the most was Sherri L. King's Voyeurs Overexposed, which was a real humorous one among the story theme. Delilah Devlin as always makes the most engaging story in her Raptor's Prey. There's something about reading anthologies that is both fun and efficient. It's like a book-spree but with different authors under a similar genre built to make the reader feel well-loved!
Looking Forward by Mary Wine (B), Wolf's Law by Cheyenne McCray (B-), and Writers Unblocked by Diana Hunter (B-) are worth reading. Sherri King and Anya Bast's stories were DNF and Delilah Devlin's earned an F. Averaging does not result in "liked it," but I went with it because of my reaction to Wine's story in particular, but also McCray's and Hunter's.
I only started the anya bast short and couldn't finish. never thought id say this about a short but it actually had too much story. maybe that was just because I found it boring though. the first five pages about a vampire drunk on ale just not realy my thing apparently. didn't even make it to the sex scenes
Bought it for Looking Forward by Mary wine. One of my favorite short stories, and stories by Wine in general. Would like to see more of that world, but since Wine got into Scottish historicals, she doesn't seem willing to come back to scifi erotica. Pity.
A collection of short erotic stories of various quality and settings. The bdsm story aboutthe authors was the best by far. Pretty much what you expect from one of these.
