Volume 8 of the series is a fun entertaining light-hearted read in which Mapple and the members of her guild go wild in finding and upgrading their pets (and in Mapple's case of course herself). Much like previous volumes it shines in the silly moments that have some basis in game elements even if they are taking a bit too extreme. Characters are not very developed and the plot is simple, but if you reached part 8 that should not bother you. All in all, an entertaining read of wholesome gaming.

This was so good!

I love this series so much.

Something I love about the novels in particular is how they explain the skills, how they’re acquired and what that actually *do*, something which can be a bit ambiguous in the anime/manga versions. Also the extra character insights that we get.

If you like the manga and/or the anime, I highly recommend checking out the light novels - they’re super easy & fun to read!

Maple always makes me cackle by being the unintentional final boss in the mmo. It was this series that got me to try an mmorpg for the first time. I started playing ffxiv bc this series made them seem a lot more fun than I thought they’d be. Maple just does things to make her time in the game fun for her and her friends and it’s such a different view that it was sort of world changing.

Well, that was a lot of fun, as usual for that series. New World Online has a new layer where players can now acquire pet monsters similar to Maple's Syrup and Sally's Oboro, so the first part of the book was devoted to the story of Maple's friends all acquiring pet monsters, while Maple acquired... tentacles ? As one of the devs put it, it was kind of inevitable that Maple would turn into a tentacled monster at some point. The second part was about another event with players fighting monsters, which was mainly an excuse to show off what the new pet monsters can do and for more of Maple's crazy antics. All in all, a pretty good new entry in that series.

The silliness continues. I really love how much detail is given about the pets and why each member of Maple Tree chose the one they got.
