*Minor spoilers for the novel ahead*

If there’s anything to know about me, it’s how deeply I enjoy an enemies-to-lovers story. And as a continuation for me sharing things about myself (hey, we’re all friends here), I enjoy magic and fantasy and witches. Entwined Within the Darkness seemed to be all that and more, and I was beyond excited to get a chance to read it. For transparency’s sake, Charley Black reached out to me to do a beta read, and upon realizing that the book was already published, I decided to share some of the notes and thoughts I had in a fully-fleshed review.

Simply put, Entwined Within the Darkness fell a little flat for me. There were several reasons for why, spanning characterization, plot, and even formatting. I’ll lay them out here.

Formatting
I’ll start with the easiest thing to discuss. For the most part, this book was grammatically sound. Adjacently though, it did feel like it needed a glance-through by an editor on the whole. There were grammatical issues, as well as small stylistic errors that I think could have been alleviated. This includes perspective lapses, which were minor but batting-an-eye-at-worthy, and awkward phrases that weren’t bad per se, but they made the work feel slightly unpolished.

Characters, Plot, & All That Jazz
I’m lumping the rest of what I need to cover in one section because it interweaves and so do my criticisms about it. The story was there. A powerful witch who has forgotten her past must go on a journey to save her friend before he never wakes from his coma—and the only person to help her is a terrible, but sexy vampire that hates all witches. That sounds solid, and it’s a premise I can and did get behind.

What felt lacking was the execution. I really enjoyed some of the characters, namely Patience. She is spunky and capable and unafraid of danger. She’s creative in her thinking and her magic, and she meets all types of strange people who know things about her that refuse to elaborate on the swathes of her memories that only they seem to know of. The author does a great job of showing how powerful she is in an easy and subtle way, though the dialogue around her can feel a bit direct at times (she’s powerful, yes, but does everyone need to keep repeating it?). But I like Patience, and I think she shows a lot of promise as an interesting main character.
When she was satisfied they were hitting it off, a.k.a. Michael not running off, she took the drink Michael ordered, gulped it down, and headed for the dance floor, hoping to work off some of the adrenaline. Tonight was about fun, and she was going to have fun.
Patience is cool, calm, and collected, and dammit, she is going to have fun.

I liked the side characters, like Michael and Maxim, and I’m hopeful that I get to see more of them and their own detailed stories in the following book, as they were relatively contained in this novel.

But now, think back to this terrible-but-sexy vampire I mentioned earlier. He and Patience reluctantly team up after meeting in a nightclub, and they are inexplicably drawn to each other despite their nature. And that’s key: inexplicably. There is no reason to explain why they are infatuated with each other, why they are thinking of each other’s lips during every interaction despite knowing each other for less than a week, why their every perspective revolves around their forbidden feelings for the other.
Lucius didn’t understand where these feelings were coming from. He should hate her. She was the enemy. He slammed his fist against the wall in the hallway. These feelings were absurd.
This, but much of Lucius’ perspectives read like this. It gets overwhelming at times.

But that isn’t exactly true. Because there is a reason for this. It’s horniness. They’re horny. Great, nothing wrong with being horny! But it is passed off as more than lust and labeled as a mysterious feeling that they cannot explain or understand and that goes against their better nature. They’re grown adults… more than grown adults, and yet are unable to comprehend that you can find someone sexy and horrible. But I digress.

Lucius, as a whole, is not for me. So take my critiques regarding him with a grain of salt. He is a 500 year old immature baby that uses his overwhelming strength to choke Patience when he doesn’t agree with her (something she doesn’t take huge issue with) and throw whiskey glasses against the wall. His overly primal masculinity is frustrating at best and borderline abusive at worst. I don’t mind angry, damaged men in a story, especially in enemies-to-lovers because dammit I love it when they make them as unlikable as possible with a slight twinge of redeemability. But for Lucius, I’m still waiting on that redemption. At the core of enemies-to-lovers is giving the reader enough time to move from seeing the characters as bad people to seeing them as good for each other, and I don’t feel like I was given enough time to come to terms with him. Lucius was unlikable for much of the novel personally, and it didn’t help much that most of his perspectives revolved around how he hated his feelings for Patience, as it didn’t paint him to be a fully-fleshed character in his own right.

Despite this, I overall enjoyed the plot. I think the plot points themselves had a lot of interest, and the progression as a whole is interesting and thought-out. Personally, I would be a bit upset if my best friend and only chance at survival has a limited amount of time to save me and she’s spending it exploring the body of a man she just met. But I think that it allows for a fun, sexy read, so it's a personal thing I'm willing to overlook.

My main critiques regarding the plot is how the romance is interwoven. The romance feels overbearing for much of the novel. The plot takes a backseat to the romance sometimes, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but the characters themselves didn’t seem to have enough chemistry for the romance to carry the story. I’m told consistently how much they can’t control their feelings for each other, but their feelings are just lust—again, lust is not alone a bad thing, but Lucius felt in need of more depth to make their relationship more compelling. And this goes back to my earlier point about editing: much of the “why do I feel like this?” felt repetitive and like it could’ve been truncated—in other words, this book felt longer than necessary at times.

I have faith in this story and the characters to get better in the next novel. There’s a slew of great characters and a solid storyline, it just needs some more thought and attention. I’m hoping that the next book takes that potential and really fleshes it out.

Thanks for sticking around to read!

‘Entwined Within the Darkness’ is the first book in its trilogy. It is a story filled with suspense, action, humor, steam and fantasy elements. The protagonist, Patience, and her friends, her journey and everything that entails the story make the perfect adventure story.

The writing is what predominately dominates the story. The author’s world-building and way of describing the scenes take you into this imaginative world.

The added paranormal romance and magic also bring out the best of the storyline concept. You will enjoy this trilogy if you are into witches, wizards and vampire romance.

The ending does not provide closure towards all matters but gives you enough to want to know more in the next book.

Personally I’ve been having a really hard time in life lately and there has been so much going that I needed a good book to escape. This book help me really unwind. I love a good enemies to lovers and although it hasn’t truly reached lovers yet it makes me excited for the next book. I kept getting annoyed that she didn’t tell literally anyone her real name or even Michael about Alden. I can’t wait to start the next book cause my mind is racing with possibilities.

I Need More!!!

Oh my goodness! I cannot wait for the next book to come out. Normally I am not a big fan of a story being told in the third person and I can’t really get into it, but with there being so many people’s sides being told, it fit this book and I couldn’t put it down. It was well written and easy to follow. It will definitely have you on the edge of your seat wanting more.

The whole story was just so good, there isn’t really anything I think that needs to be changed. The bond between the characters, the lies, deception, drama, suspense, joy, chemistry, it was all great.

I have my suspicions of what to expect in the next book, but, I also had that in this book and was proved wrong a couple times. I seriously can’t wait for the next book!

More like a 3.5 stars. For me a 3 star is an “I really liked it and will keep and recommend”
I got to read this a bit in advance and I really enjoyed the storyline. The characters are fun and offer a lot of variety. I got an early edition so I did notice a few grammatical errors, but the more I read the more I started to really enjoy where the story was going.
I love the bit of mystery that the plot gives. The tension between characters is delicious and the plot twist and slight cliffhanger at the end leaves me wanting more. I am excited to see what Charley brings to the table in the future!

I really loved my experience while reading this book. There was constantly something happening so I was never bored. There is a whole group of characters who I grew to love and can’t wait to keep reading about. Who wouldn’t love a book with Witches, Vampires and Demons?? I sure did. I loved the storyline and how all the characters became to be connected. I loved it and can’t wait to read the next book

This book was such a great read. I don't generally like books that are written in the 3rd person, but this book kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved that I was able to feel what the characters were feeling. This book had so many unexpected twists and turns and the spice was... great!

I can't wait to read the next book and see where the story goes for Patience, Lucius, Ian and Michael.

This book started off slow at first, but after the next couple of chapters, I didnt want to put it down. Vampires, demons and witches. Sex and lust that made my imagination go wild. Afterall, there isnt anything sexier than a hot, broody vampire that could protect you from anything and kill anything that got in his way, am I right? Is book 2 out yet? , because I need to get it, STAT!

Entwined with darkness is the first book within the trilogy, The Darkness. It is a fantasy adventure novel with vivid characters and a compelling story line about the conflict between powerful bloodlines fighting to protect their loved ones. The book is filled with beautiful descriptions of the emotional turmoil a quest brings, that forces one to face their worst nightmare and do the unthinkable.
A very interesting and entertaining story that excites the reader to wonder how everything could be resolved.

The first chapter introduces us to the protagonist, Patience, as she wakes from a recurring nightmare that is tormenting her, it taunts her helplessness to figure out the reason for such terror stealing her peace away. She is a witch trying to unravel the unruly mystery that has locked her memories away. Along with her best friend Michael, a half demon, she stumbles into a series of unfortunate circumstances that threaten to take away her only remaining family.
Feeling the shift in air, she anticipates a new clue that might connect her back to her memories but the plot thickens when she crosses path with an unforgiving Lucius, a vampire who is adament on pushing her away after realising that they are bond together due to reasons unknown to them. All hell breaks loose when Michael begins to transform into a demon and loses his human side while taking Ian with him. Having no control of the things around her and sense a familiarity follows everywhere she goes, Will Patience be able to save her friend and reach the secrets that are her memories?

The author does an amazing job creating an enchanting mystery that surrounds all the characters, who are not what they seem to be. Strong and intelligent characters like Patience, Lucius and Maxim portray the tension that is felt by all, stuck in a dangerous situation. The reader is transported to where the characters fight hard to resolve the conflict with her effective lines and elaborate details.

A must read for those who love fantasy and adventure that is entwined with ancient history and their undying mysteries.

I was hooked with this book right from the very beginning. Fantasy is still a new genre for me to explore and honestly I can’t believe that it has taken me this long to get into it. But this book has everything you could want. It has romance, suspense, mystery, an amazing storyline and the cliffhanger at the end well…let’s just say I need to get my hands on the second book in the trilogy!

Written in third person, which isn’t always the style that I enjoy but with this book Charley manages to to give all the characters sides of the story and I felt like nothing was left out.
You cannot help but fall in love with the characters. I loved Patience and Lucius and I can’t wait to see what happens on their journey in the future books. Because whilst they are both on their own journeys to figure out/discover who they are and who they are meant to be, their paths I feel are destined to cross. Charley managed to get you the reader inside the minds of her characters and that o something that I really enjoyed.
This book was a great and easy read and I throughly enjoyed it and I would recommend if you love a dark fantasy. The smut that was in this book was well written and hot! I just really loved this and please pick this book up! Thank you so much Charley for sending me a copy of this book! I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy!

This book hooked me right in from the very beginning! The story follows Patience, a witch with a mysterious and unknown (even to her) past and vampire Lucious. The two are an unlikely pairing because of history between witches and vampires but they must team up to each save someone they hold dear. Throughout the text, some mysteries are solved while others remain and when I got about 3/4 of the way through the text, I figured out that what I was really hoping for an answer for wouldn't be revealed until the next book in the series so I quickly added that to my digital wish list and look forward to reading it.
One of the things that I liked most about this story was that Patience and Lucious were both on their own individual paths of realizing who they are and/or who they were meant to be. Both characters are confident in themselves but also vulnerable and open to changing their way of thinking. I do not want to post spoilers so I'll just say that I look forward to seeing how their paths continue to merge in the next book.
Something that the author does extremely well is get the reader into the mind of each character. Charley is really able to convey the emotions and personalities of the characters she's created. Because of this, it was easy to read each part of the story that was written and imagine how each character would react to the events and conversations happening. I love when I can get sucked into a story in that way. I read to escape reality and this book met that order :-)
All in all, I give this book a solid 4 stars. For me, a 4 star book is one that sucks me in quickly, keeps me interested in the characters and plot throughout, and I would recommend it to others who enjoy the genre.

This is definitely a binge-worthy book!

This book offers everything that is a must need in a paranormal romance such as witches, demons and vampires. This enemies-to-lovers trope is one hell of a ride, we've got Lucius who is a well known witch-hunter and Patience who is a solitary witch.

They both embark on a journey where they agree to just get along for the sake of it... However, what if they're willpower is no match to keep their attraction a part? Get your popcorn ready!

I absolutely loved their relationship and how they instantly wanted each other. However for me it was how most sentences didn't flow and they stilted, I had to keep going back to double check who was supposed to be talking and my brain was instantly hit with one thing after another. Never focusing on one goal, there was always something else that needed resolving.

However my rating is going off how much I enjoyed this book, the storyline was amazing, the character development was extraordinary. As much as I love a strong female character with attitude, my favourite character is Lucius, because I love a sexy brooding man or vampire in this case.

Finally, the book had a unique world building so much that I've never come across before, and it bedazzled me! It's action packed as I said before so if you enjoy being constantly hit with another obstacle right as things start to get steamy, then this book is for you.

I received a free e-copy of this book via the BookLounge Facebook group for readers and authors, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I really enjoyed reading about Patience and Lucius and seeing their relationship develop. I thought the characters were really well developed and the authors world building was amazing. However, I did find myself extremely confused for the first half of the book. There is sooo much going on and I really struggled to keep up. When I reached the halfway point, I did find it a lot easier to keep track and I became thoroughly invested in the story. I thought the spicier scenes were written excellently, and wish there were more! I love an enemies-to-lovers storyline, and this one was amazing! I will re-read this book in the future now I understand the characters better and will continue to read the trilogy!

At 344 pages, this took me just under 5 hours to read. I recommend it to any fantasy lover, especially as it contains vampires, witches and demons!

A unique spin on classic tropes

The theme was self discovery throughout. The protagonist, patience, is trying to find out who she really is. Whereas the witch hunter, Michael, is trying to find his inner peace.

The part that resonated with me the most was the tension between the self and what is expected of one as a self. It is as if this conflict is central to the story, and there are all kinds of variations on it. Michael is expected to be a certain way, but he’s not that way at all, even if he’s physically present.

My favorite part was when patient was trying to tell Michael that she felt him bind her powers, and when she was angry about it.

I would’ve liked to see more exploration, however, on the protagonists efforts to get Michael to go to the vampire club.

If you love witches vampires and magic this may be a good read for you. I thoroughly enjoyed the magical ride and adventure. I did not like the way it ended but I immediately purchased the sequel. It had some repetitiveness that kind of annoyed me. Lucius got on my nerves when he kept calling Patience witch but if you read this book you will understand. There were some grammatical errors and need a review of an editor. Some errors would make the reader temporarily confused until you continue reading and understand that it could be an error based off of context. I would honestly give this one a 3.5 for errors that distracts the reader and a 4 for a pretty good story that I look forward to following.

Loving the plot of the story. The author has us on our toes with throwing out little bits of clues here and there so we think we have an idea what’s going on but not really sure. I did feel like the author tried using smut scenes to try to add more pages to the story? I felt like a lot of it was so unnecessary, but I’m so engrossed now in the plot that I will read book 2.

I enjoyed the story. It does have a bit of a slow point but it gets interesting as it goes by. The characters were interesting and the plot seem well thought out. It is easy to follow and gives a lot of mystery. You don’t know what is going to happen the next time and I can’t wait for the next book.

Intriguing!

There is so much going on, at every turn someone knows more than they are letting on. I have an idea who Patience is to Lucius AND who should truly is. But, I do not want to spoil anything especially if I am correct. There us a lit of cloak and dagger going on and I'm looking forward to uncovering them. Well Done Ms. Black!!

Entwined Within the Darkness is a paranormal fantasy romance where vampires and witches are deadly archenemies. Out of desperation, Patience, a witch, must work together with a surly, snappish, yet devastatingly attractive vampire named Lucius. Lucius – who was at one time one of the most notorious witch hunters in history. When Patience’s best friend, Michael, and Lucius’ brother, Ian, get tethered to each other in order to stop Michael’s sudden transition into his full demon form, it will be a race against time to find a special object needed to save them both. Otherwise, they will die in four days.

Entwined Within the Darkness is a haters-to-lovers romance. Being from warring species, Patience and Lucius should want nothing to do with each other. In fact, Lucius finds himself persuading himself throughout a good portion of the book that he needs to kill Patience once his brother is saved from the tethering spell, simply because she is a witch, and witches are abominations. Patience does not necessarily share the same desire to see Lucius killed, but that does not mean she is excited to be trapped in the sullen vampire’s castle-style mansion. For some reason, however, it is apparent that both have a mysterious connection to each other. Patience’s memories only take up the last 50 years of her life. Everything else prior to that has been wiped from her mind. Lucius, however, is aware of no memory lapses and cannot fathom why he would have ever joined forces with a witch, much less fall in love with one, 150 years ago in another realm. Regardless, both witch and vampire find themselves helpless desiring the other, and the lines that once seemed so impenetrable between their species start to blur.

Entwined Within the Darkness is a profound example of what we can accomplish when we put aside our cultural prejudices and help another person. Both Patience and Lucius had their own means as to why they needed to succeed in their mission, however as the book progressed, they continuously, and sometimes begrudgingly, realized that they would not be able to save each of their loved ones without the other’s help.

While I did enjoy the basis of the book and the idea of this continuous rivalry between witches and vampires, there were some aspects of the book that seemed like they weren’t quite polished yet. There were some important scenes that seemed to be missing. For example, after suffering torture at the hands of Sucora and being saved by the king and queen, Lucius has to carry Patience to safety because she has lost so much blood and seems to be on the cusp of death. The actual scene only showed Patience receiving a handful of cuts, however, and there was no indication that these were so serious as to threaten her life or be large enough to cause continuous bleeding to eventually lead to death. Some points in the book just didn’t feel like they had been fleshed out quite completely yet, which took some depth away from the story. I think the book could have benefitted from some expansion.

Overall, Entwined Within the Darkness is definitely worth a read for paranormal romance fans. It’s quick, steamy and full of mystery. Readers itching for passion and desire, with a little magic added to the mix, will thoroughly enjoy it.

When Patience asks her best friend Michael to go out for some fun one night, neither of them anticipates the absolute mayhem this decision will unleash on so many lives. Their own lives and those of the still unsuspecting other creatures whom they will encounter as events unravel. The fact that neither Patience nor Michael can remember a thing about their lives, including their names or ages, before they were found under strange circumstances, doesn't deter them from entering a new, alluring nightclub run by vampires. Neither does the fact that Patience is a witch and Michael is a demon. Both species strongly disliked by vampires.
When things get out of hand due to some seriously poor timing of events, Patience will have no choice but to team up with Lucius, a witch hunting vampire who clearly hates her as much as he is inexplicably drawn to her. Perhaps this magnetic, centuries old creature will hold the key to unlock Patience's memory, and the meaning behind the visions in the nightmare that has been tormenting her for the past 50 years.

I don't often fail to take notes whilst reading a book, nor do I usually feel the need to take a few breaths to process, before I start writing a review. But goodness me, what a ride!
Entwined Within the Darkness is the first part in a trilogy and it delivers the starters to what is promising to be a mouth watering three course meal. It's an action packed adult modern day fantasy story, with a healthy dose of monumental slow burn romance and a rewarding yet palatable dose of spice. With fantasy romances, action and adventure often fall like victims at the romance/ smut sacrificial altar. This is not the case with this story, which ticks all the boxes for adventure, content and pace. The writing is smooth and undemanding, in a way that perfectly compliments the story, making it accessible and unputdownable and which avoids unnecessary overcomplication.
The only thing I felt this book fell slightly short in was the world building, as not enough context was given and the settings could have done with being more descriptive. I have a soft spot for stories with backgrounds that explode in full HD in front of my eyes while I'm reading. Unfortunately I struggled a bit with picturing these worlds here, but I'm hopeful that this will come in the next installments of this trilogy.
As a life- long lover of vampire stories, who is also fully conscious of how the genre has been overcooked with some notable examples that shall remain nameless for the sake of keeping on track, I always approach vampire stories with caution. This book was given to me in exchange of an honest review and I'm not one to pay lip service, but Entwined Within the Darkness didn't disappoint in any way and it's always a delight to love a book that I have been asked to review. I can't wait to dive back into Charley Black's Within the Darkness universe.

Patience is a witch who has lost her memories. When she woke up 40 years ago, she had no idea who she was and where she came from; all she knows is that she keeps having nightmares with glowing red eyes.

In this world, witches and vampires are enemies. While searching for answers, Patience ends up having to work with Lucius (vampire who is a notorious witch hunter) to save her friend and his brother.

Lucius hates witches and blames them for his wife’s death, and consequently hates Patience. However, neither can avoid the undeniable chemistry between them.

During the first book, Patience finally finds some clues about her past and who is she. This also reveals details about why she has such a weird connection with Lucius. They both also discover that there are more sinister forces at play in the world, and they will have to continue to work together to defeat them (book 2).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think the plot and concept of this series is pretty unique. I always enjoy the memory loss trope as well, especially when it’s used to draw the plot together like it was in this series.
The world-building definitely could have been set a bit better though. I felt like there was a lot going on right at the beginning, but not enough clarification/explanation of things. The mechanics of the magic as well as the variety of creatures in this world was never really explained. This created plot holes later, because the characters magical abilities (and limits of those abilities) seemed inconsistent. Especially with regards to the mechanisms of the memory loss.
There was a big “surprise twist” in the second book which both answered questions and then created more. The lead up to this as well was confusing, due to the plethora of different names that each character was called. It felt unrealistic that Patience would just accept people calling her weird names without trying to question them for why (especially since she knew her memory was gone and was trying to find answers). Additionally, most of the plot twists were pretty predictable in general.
The POV jumps between the different characters, but it’s written in 3rd person. This got a little confusing because there was no clear indication of who had the POV, and sometimes it took multiple pages before clarification.
Personally, I found Lucius’s and Patience’s personalities to be a little annoying, which definitely made it harder to get in to this story.
Lastly, Lucius essentially started a war between the vampires and witches because he blamed the witches for his wife’s death; how did he just get everyone else on board with this?
Overall, it was an interesting story. I will say that by the end of the second book, it was getting very captivating and I was enjoying it a lot more.
Thank you to the author for a copy of the second book to read ✨
Entwined Within The Darkness is a paranormal romance and the first book in a series.
Patience is a talented witch who knows very little about her past. She shares a flat with her best friend Michael, a half-demon, and she works in a wonderful magical bookshop.
On a night out, Patience and Michael go to a Vampire club. Passion and death threats result; Michael bonds with his vampire lover but locks the duo in a dangerous coma. Meanwhile, Patience and Lucius, an infamous witch-hunter, must join forces to save Michael and his mate.
What I liked:
I liked Patience’s witch skills and particularly the bookshop where she worked. I enjoyed the worlds created and the general plot. There were several secondary characters who were also well written and likeable. The first third of the story was very enjoyable.
What I didn’t like so much:
After the first third the story felt a little rushed, a lot more characters were introduced, but they weren’t as rounded as the initial ones. As the story progressed, I felt that Patience lost some of her original finesse as a talented witch while the sexual tug-of-war between her and Lucius became predictable. The ending was odd; I felt that the plot twist did not quite gel with the rest of the storyline.
There is a good story here, and the first part of the book really was entertaining. For me, the latter parts needed more work to maintain the uniqueness of the main characters and to keep the plot fresh.
"Nerdection Worth to read"
The story started with a great premise.
From witches to demons and vampires, Entwined Within The Darkness offered everything a paranormal romance lover would want. It featured an enemies-to-lovers trope, with Lucius as a witch-hunter and Patience as a witch. We are goners for plots where the protagonists who are also enemies begrudgingly accept each other’s company for the sake of the greater good. And in the meantime, if they start falling for each other? more’s the better.
However, I think their relationship was a little forced. I’d rather prefer a more gradual approach in an enemies-to-lovers, but overall it all comes down to what you like.
Fortunately, there were other things I liked in Entwined Within The Darkness. The character development was exquisite. My favorite character was Patience, the witch extraordinaire. Why, you ask? Because she was brave. She was a reader. And of course, she had all sorts of clever quips ready at her tongue. Unfortunately for Lucius, who was mostly at the receiving end of those quips.
As for Lucius, his character seemed two-dimensional at first and I didn’t start liking him until after half of the story passed.
The world-building and the magic system were also fascinatingly unique. Not sure? Buckle up, because here we’re talking about enchanted necklaces, talking bookstores, and rooms only someone you trust could enter.
Amazingly, the book is action-packed and filled with surprises that will keep both the characters (and the readers!) on their toes. Black’s writing is also engaging, she doesn’t waste time on trivia. Instead, you get plunged head-on into political games and magical tokens, and slow-burn romance.
Set in the modern world, like The Vampire Diaries, Entwined Within the Darkness has similar elements like vampires, witches, and magic, with tweaks like demons and gay romance. And trust us when we say, it’s worth every second you spend reading it.
The story follows Patience, an ultra-powerful witch with her past memories locked up somewhere in her head. In her venture to search for her identity, she bumps into Michael, a supposedly half-demon and becomes best friends with him One of their nightly shenanigans takes them to a vampire club and their lives are turned upside down.
Enters Lucien, a vampire, also known as the infamous witch killer, the Ragana Zidikas. Will Patience be able to pull herself out of the mess she finds herself in, or a battle with THE Ragana Zidikas is awaiting? Read to find out.
The overall story and setting are amazing, and exciting and will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end. The characters have been written in the most believable manner and have set a strong foundation for the story in the upcoming installments of the series.
Rating: 4.5/5
Verdict: A fascinating enemies-to-lovers story set in the supernatural world of vampires, witches, demons, and whatnot.
2,5 rounded to 3
Why not two? That’s easy, the frame of the story is great, interesting: enemies to lovers (medium burn) with lot of tension, vamps, witches, demons… I especially like M&I story even Im not usually reading MM as a side bestfriend story its cool.
And the cover is beautiful.
However there is a lot of things I didn’t like. The main characters got horny on the most strangest of times, always sleeping at the most strangest situation (my BFF is at the verge of dying but I need to sleep?!). The tension is good but after a while its just too much that “I love you I hate you” over and over and over and over. Like I felt so many repetition on that part that I started to roll my eye constantly…
At about 75% I was just thinking please let it end.
Even if there were a lot of adventure and great stories I found a lot of without explanation and may come at one point but this time it was rather confusing.
So while I liked the world it lacked a lot of explanation and all the constant wailing of the main characters and the constant circling about yes-no thru a whole book was a bit much for me.
Therefore even its ending with cliffhanger I may not continue with book two at this point… it has a potential, so may wait for what others who does says…
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
