Windsong #2

The Matchmaker and the Cowboy

Rate this book
Callie Carmichael has a gift for making bridesmaid dresses—some even call them magical. Somehow, every person who’s worn one of her dresses has found love. Real love. And as long as that happily-ever-after is for someone else, Callie is happy. Because she’s fully over getting her heart broken…which is why her new roommate is definitely going to be a problem.

After being overseas for six months, Callie’s only choice is to stay with her best friend’s ridiculously hot brother, Hunter Owens. Cowboy, troublemaker, and right now, the town’s most coveted bachelor. Only, Hunter isn’t quite the player she thought. And if it weren’t for her whole “no more love” thing, their setup could get confusing really fast.

Now, Hunter wants Callie to make him a best man suit—a “lucky for love” kind of suit. But what happens if she makes the suit and he finds true love…and it isn't her?

This is a Cowboy Romance, and this is the second book in the Windsong series. I have not read the first book in this series, but I think you can read this book as a standalone book. I found this book to have great characters and took place in a cute small town. There were so many fun and laugh moments in this book that had me laughing out loud. There were some steamy adult times in this book too. I really loved seeing the two main characters open up to each other, and I love seeing their romance come to life. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Entangled: Amara) or author (Robin Bielman) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

If you’re in the mood for a sexy, fun, small-town family-centric romance with wonderful relatable and perfectly multi-layered characters then The Matchmaker and the Cowboy is absolutely the book for you. Robin’s been one of my favourite authors for ten years, her takes on well loved tropes are always fresh and unique and 24 books later her mad skills at writing perfect first kisses and grand gestures still knock my socks off. Hunter and Callie were perfect together and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

The Matchmaker And The Cowboy is a charming and enjoyable romance.

Callie is back in Windsong after months volunteering in Africa, when she arrives at her family's house she finds out that her family is away and the house is under renovation. Fortunately her best friend finds a place for her to stay, the only drawback is that she has to share the place with her best friend's brother and take care of him. Hunter has always had a crush on Callie but she never gave him a chance, but maybe staying in the closer quarters of his house something could change her opinion of him.

I adored to see Callie and Hunter relationship changing slowly, staying closer they can finally know each other better.

Callie doesn't feel appreciated by her family and her parents didn't set the best exemple for a loving relationship, she doesn't want a man in her life but staying away from Hunter is very difficult.
Hunter is the sweetest and the most stubborn man of the world, he pained so much after Callie but he never put aside his feelings for her.
Together they are irresistible I couldn't put their story on hold even for a few hours.

Robin Bielman delivered a good, entertaining story, she perfectly captured the essence of small town living. The close relationship among the towners is delightful, it was fun catching up with the already known characters and meeting new ones.

This is a good read for all small town trope lovers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for kindly giving me an advanced copy of this book to read.

Este libro es un friends to lovers y ps it's not my cup of tea. 🙈

I was already halfway in love with this book by the blurb alone. Add in the adorable awkwardness of Hunter, the skittish sweetness of Callie, and all the magic of not only Callie's dresses, but the small town charm that showed up in spades? The Matchmaker and the Cowboy was basically a Hallmark movie for my heart.

Hunter came in strong, threatening ovary explosions with the devotedness to his niece and his family in general. He was adorable, and sweet, and awkward in that way that my heart can't help but love. I loved how he adored Callie. I loved the slow, banterific way they fell for each other. I do sometimes tend struggle with storylines where I feel like the heroine keeps one foot out the door until the end, but I really really enjoyed the ride with Hunter and Callie.

This series is such a fun take on cowboy romance. I am having so much fun with these characters and their unconventional love stories and The Matchmaker and the Cowboy was another delight! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

The Matchmaker and the Cowboy is a charming friends-to-lovers contemporary romance with a wonderful setting, great characters, and a swoon-worthy romance. As soon as I saw Hunter’s middle name, I knew this was the book for me. (Hint: It’s a name from Star Wars) The story follows Callie Carmichael, a talented dressmaker with a growing reputation for making magical maid of honor dresses that help the wearer find a spouse. Recently returned to Windsong, Callie is shocked to find her home unlivable and her family gone. Luckily, her best friend’s family needs help and offers her a place to say.

Hunter Owens, the town’s most eligible bachelor is recuperating from a spider bite and needs care. He’s shocked when he wakes up and sees his long-time crush has been charged with the task. They are both such fantastic characters, and I love how their relationship develops. Though they’re not on the same page when it comes to commitment and feelings about love, Callie and Hunter have a lot in common. They’re both trying to prove something to themselves and others, they are both kind and generous and caring, and they both love their charming small town. I love that they connect on such a deep level after being in the perimeter of each other’s lives for so long. I think Callie really gets to see a different side of Hunter than she’s ever seen before, and it definitely changes her feelings toward him.

I also like that they both help each other in such profound ways. Hunter helps Callie with her fear of horses which she’s had since falling off a horse and breaking her back as a teen. He also supports her designing dreams, and they maintain a healthy competition when they run for the same position in town. Callie also helps care for Hunter while he’s recuperating from a black widow spider bite. They see each other at their most vulnerable, and I think this strengthens the connection between them.

The romance between Callie and hunter is positively swoon-worthy. Hunter pines for Callie, and I loved every second of it. He’s the most eligible bachelor in town, but he only has eyes for Callie, and he is charmingly awkward and tongue-tied around her. It’s so sweet! Of course, Callie doesn’t notice, and that just adds to the angst. They have amazing chemistry, which only grows as the story progresses, and their sexy scenes are pretty hot! Plus, their wonderfully tender and romantic scenes balance out their love story well.

The secondary characters are as dynamic as Callie and Hunter, and I love learning what’s going on at the ranch and with the characters from the previous books in the series. There’s a lot of excitement in the lives of this amazing family, including weddings, babies, and new business ventures. And Hunter’s niece Jenna is so adorable! Callie’s family contrasts Hunter’s well. Where hers is selfish and absent and often forgets about Callie or prioritizes their own interests over her, Hunter’s family is close-knit and devoted to each other. Luckily, Callie has a wonderful found family, which includes a feisty octogenarian (love her!), Hunter’s sister, and the rest of Hunter’s family to compensate for what she’s lacking in her own family.

We also meet several new characters, and I’m eager to see what roles they’ll have in future books. I’m really curious about Hunter’s sister and her mystery man. It’s hinted about in this book, and I have a feeling (or maybe I’m just hoping) that we’ll learn more about that soon!

I’m enjoying this series. It has great characters, a wonderful family, tons of small-town charm, and swoon-worthy, steamy romances. You really can’t go wrong with a Robin Bielman contemporary romance! Thanks to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own

ARC review (NetGalley)
Rating: 5 stars

Positive thoughts:
I was worried that the a 400page book would bet me bored in some parts and I'd have to skimp a lot of pages, but this book got me hooked and reading every word. It was fast paced and oh so wonderful. We all love small town vibs and family togetherness and lets not forget the hero is a cowboy.
Callie needed a cowboy like Hunter, the type of man who has been pining her since forever and we get that feeling "it's always been you".

Negative thoughts:
Not much to say in this department.
I did feel a little frustrated with the heroine. You know how you just want to shake her when she can't put her fears behind her when she see a really good man in front of her and just let herself fall for him, yeah that feeling, I got that with Callie. But in the end it made you believe that not all men are the same (thank goodness) and not all families are made to abandon you.

Overview:
It was a fun romance, with a lot of chemistry, warm feelings and exciting moments. The combination of a dressmaker and a cowboy was perfect. You would think a cowboy would be the brute and senseless and our dress maker would be the princess, all sunshine. But on the contrary, Hunter was all charm and so in tune with her needs and feelings, and Callie was there to absorb all he had to give her - when she finally realised it would be a good thing.

Romance: 5/5
Spice: 4/5
Chemistry: 5/5
Humour: 3/5
Foul language: 2/5

Tropes:
- Small town
- It's always been you
- Cowboy
- Best friends brother
- Slow burn
- Forced proximity
- Independent heroine

The Matchmaker and the Cowboy returns readers to the charming small town of Windsong for Hunter and Callie's story. And what a delightful sweet, fun, story it is.

As Callie just back from six months in Africa arrives home expecting to see her sister Brooke and parents waiting to greet her. Instead, she finds a home under construction and no family.

But the delightful Birdy a joyous octagenarian is waiting with news. That her family have let her down once again.

So Callie thanks to her best friend Nova ends up helping out Hunter. Who whilst babysitting his adorable niece Jenna was bitten by a poisonous spider and is in need of someone to care for him for a couple of weeks.

But the pair have history and Hunter has had a crush on Callie for years. Only she sees him as a flirt and anyway she's not looking for love or marriage thanks to her parents on/off one.

Yet, as the pair spend time together and take part in a little friendly competition Hunter can't help but fall. But he's needing all of his charm if he's getting Callie to fall back.

And with the perfect amount of heat, sweetness and fun. This was a great read. That's also full of Ms Bielman's signature characters and small town delights. And I would happily recommend it to all.

Edit: I reached out to the author and she emailed back right away and sent over another book! She is genuinely the sweetest person and I can’t wait to read the pages I missed and her other books!

very cute book, but 49 pages were missing out of the middle of my copy which made it very hard to follow the story and understand references that happened later in the book.

A great small-town romance. The story follows Calle and Hunter. Calle is a dressmaker with a matchmaker reputation – whenever someone wears one of her designs (with the magic butterfly sewn inside) they find their true love and get married. Hunter is a cowboy and her best friend’s brother. They get thrown together when Calle returns home and needed a place to stay, and Hunter needs a caretaker after getting injured. The storyline just flowed so effortlessly. The cast of characters were interesting and realistic. This story had so many of the things I love about romances: friends to lovers, great supporting characters, humor, strong family ties. I highly recommend this book; you won’t be disappointed. Don’t let the 400 pages stop you, it flowed so well that you just keep turning the page and will be done before you know it.

The Matchmaker and the Cowboy is another very fine read by Robin Bielman. Seamstress Callie has returned to her hometown to find her parents on a trip and their house being remodeled to the point she cannot stay there. The only available place is the bunkhouse where the last person she wants to see lives because cowboy Hunter witnessed her most devastating and embarrassing accident some years ago. Not only that, they both are competing for the same town ambassador position. Callie has a reputation as a matchmaker because people who wear her garments seem to find true love…and there’s a wedding coming. Ms. Bielman has populated this not quite enemies to lovers story with defined and interesting characters, especially six year old, extremely precocious Jenna who is Hunter’s niece. I loved everything about this book and my review of the ARC from NetGalley is voluntary. Most highly recommend.

The Matchmaker and the Cowboy, the second book in the Windsong series by Robin Bielman, will surely leave an imprint on your heart with
characters who are brought to life in the mind’s eye by this author’s talented writing, and a story that is as unique as it is endearing.

It is not often when I’ve come across an author who through their gift for the written word are able to bring characters into such clear focus…Hunter’s easy mannerisms and his smile and dimples are just a sample out of many. The story is woven gently, gathering emotions as it crescendos in the best way possible with a HEA that comes about in a beautifully crafted moment. The next installment of the series cannot come soon enough.

THE MATCHMAKER AND THE COWBOY is a delightful romantic comedy. Callie is back in town and ready to lean into her business of making bridesmaids dresses, something that she is becoming known for as half a dozen women who have worn her designs have gotten married soon after. When she arrives back in town, she finds herself in need of a place to stay.

Hunter saved his niece from getting bitten by a black widow spider by getting himself bitten. He has received the antivenin but his family wants someone to stay close and keep an eye on him. It seems like fate that Callie also needs a temporary place, and she winds up at his, watching him for any ill effects. He has had an unrequited crush on Callie for years, but he is determined to move on. He asks Callie to make a suit for his sibling's wedding, hoping he'll find the person he's meant to marry soon after.

As they spend time together and get to know each other, it becomes impossible to ignore the connection they have. This was an absolutely delightful romantic comedy, and I loved spending time with Callie and Hunter - they are clearly made for each other, and it all came together so well. There was a lot of hesitation in getting together, but this really upped the tension and will work well for people who like a lot of push-pull along with a ton of chemistry. The forced proximity was definitely a lot of fun.

This book definitely gave me all the smiles and feels. I also loved how it stayed focused on the main characters and their relationship. Overall, THE MATCHMAKER AND THE COWBOY was a charming and sweet romantic comedy that I highly recommend picking up.

Please note that I received an eARC. All opinions are my own.

Callie Carmichael has returned to her hometown, Windsong, CA after being in South Africa for a year. She thought she would be returning home to her family, but is disappointed, again, by their not being there to welcome her home. But her best friend Nova Owen and her family make her feel like one of the family and when they ask her to help out with Hunter, who she has a had a crush on for years, she is only too happy to help. Callie has come home to start up her MOH dress making business. Her dresses are known to be very luck to the wearer and they find their HEA when wearing her dresses.

When Hunter gets bit by a black spider, saving his preciouses niece Jenna from the spider, he lets on that everything is okay until he blacks out and when he awakes, he thought he was dreaming as she saw an angel in the form of Callie, who has been his crush since he was a teen. She was always part of the family and now here she is moving in temporarily to look after him and so she has a place to stay while her family is away and she has no place to lay her head. Hunter is more than willing to go along with her being his caregiver and he hopes that he will be able to have her in his bed as well as in his heart. When the opportunity presents itself one a weekend in Big Sur and a storm and they let all that sexual tension that they have been keeping in check, then all bets are off.

This was my first Robin Beilman book. I have not read the first book in this series, but you can bet I will be checking it out. I loved this story and loved watching Callie, who makes dreams come true for others, and guarding her heart, especially from Hunter. Hunter is the devil may care number one bachelor in Windsong, but he wants to change that. He knows how he feels about Callie and he needs to convince her that her magic is not in her dresses but it is her heart and their love for one another. There was lots of fun, romance and passion to make even the most hard-hearted person melt and sigh while reading this book. I loved all the other family and friends that made this book so enjoyable and that you wanted to sit down at one of the family meals with Owens family or have a cup of tea with Birdy while she ogles all the fine young cowboys in town. I can’t wait to read more of Robin Beilman's books.

Thank you, Robin, for giving me a copy of this book to get my honest review.

Loved this book. I haven’t read the first, but will be going back. Callie Carmichael is a gifted dressmaker. It seems every dress she makes for the maid of honors brings them true happiness, and magic if you will. The book starts off as Callie becomes Hunters roomie because of an injury he got while protecting his niece Jenna who was a sweetheart, and made me laugh so much. Callie had no where to stay, and her best friend who is also Hunters sister says she needs her help. She stays with Hunter to watch out for him, and Callie needs a place to stay. It was a win-win. Until it wasn’t.
She tells Hunter there are ground rules. That made me laugh a lot.

But things get very interesting when she’s asked to do the dresses for her best friend soon to be sister-in-law she does it. But the surprise is when Hunter Owens asks her to make him a best man jacket. He’s ready to settle down. He wants what his brother has. He believes in Callie’s work which I thought was so endearing.

Callie rules out any relationships, because of a broken heart she endured. In the long run she has feelings for Hunter that scare her..What if she makes this jacket, and he finds his true soul mate?
It’s for the best since she doesn’t want anything to do with marriage, but it still hurts when she sees him with two different women.

Buy the book so much more to come.....It releases October 25th, 2022.

Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was sweet, really sexy and melted my heart!

"Eventually, no matter how hard their fought it, the heat that crackled when they were close to each other had to go somewhere."

Hunter Owens fell for Callie Carmichael the moment he met her when they were teenagers, but a terrible accident has Callie disliking and avoiding him for years to come. As adults, Callie has just returned to her hometown of Windsong and needs a place to stay. In the meantime, Hunter has been badly bitten by a black widow spider and needs a babysitter. She agrees to look after him in exchange for staying at his place. That's when she starts to realise that Hunter isn't at all the man she assumed him to be. In the meantime, Hunter is thrilled to have her under his roof, just as he had decided to give up on her ever giving him a chance.

"Tell me I'm not the only one feeling the gravity between us."

Gosh, this story really gripped my heart. Hunter was so stinking adorable and gorgeous and swoony. He was such a gentleman - thoughtful, caring and intuitive. I couldn't get enough of him! Callie had grown up in a somewhat dysfunctional family, which tainted her view of relationships and marriage. I thought she was stubborn sticking with her ideas of what she wanted for her future when it was obvious that she had fallen heads over heels in love with Hunter, but I loved her grand gesture! I adored their connection and their chemistry. They were fun and super sexy together. Loved this story so much!

Loved, loved this book. Callie in known as the Marry Matchmaker, she is a seamstress for maid of honor dresses and the girls have all found the HEA. Callie has just returned home and has no place to stay, so she bunks up with her best friend's brother, Hunter. Hunter has asked Callie to make him a best man suit. Hunter has secretly had a crush on Callie, but Callie has had her heart broken and is not interested in a forever. Will Hunter be able to change her mind?

Loved the chemistry between Callie and Hunter, they are swoon worthy. Wonderful banter with many laugh out moments. Yes, a few tears were shed. This book is part of a series but is a stand alone. I highly recommend this book!!

Hinter was great - truly don’t have a single negative thing about him.

All stars were lost because of Callie, and for two reasons:
1) Her reasons for not wanting marriage (her parents divorces and one cheating ex) were far fetched and made no sense. Her parents literally don’t even make an appearance in the book, so what’s the point of her clinging to this. Also, the scene with her sister is random and added nothing. Should’ve been edited out.
2) She keeps him at arms length. He proclaims his love. Everyone tells her he’s loved her forever. And yet…AND YET…she is sad that he didn’t “fight harder” for her so she’s sad. At every turn she discouraged him from thinking about marriage. So yeah, she really annoyed me.

I also found the ending really rushed. But the writing was good.

This was a fun small town romance with a hunky hero who will melt your heart. Hunter is the perfect Uncle who is easy to love. Callie is a little harder to love, she is afraid of commitment and this leads to the ultimate conflict in the story.

Besides the hunky hero, my favorite part was the forced proximity between Hunter and Callie. When she arrives in town, she has to stay with Hunter and take care of him when he is sick. This lays the foundation for their relationship and has some pretty fun scenes.

Callie is back home from Africa, she needs place to stay. Her friend needs help and Callie ends up living and helping Hunter.
Hunter had loved Callie for a long time, since she doesn't return his feelings, he will start dating again and asks her to make his tuxedo for his brother's wedding.
She designed dresses for some of bridesmaids and they found true love quickly.
Hunter needs her help.
But more time they spend, the more Callie thinks about Hunter.
This book is wonderful, loved the storyline

Oh my goodness, Hunter is my new favorite book boyfriend. He is so wonderful! He is so sweet and caring to everyone around him. He is lots of flirty fun but also dependable. I was completely gone for him in the first few pages, and I wondered why Callie couldn't see how amazing he was. As the story progressed, I could understand why she was so reluctant to get to know him. She was so used to being let down by people she cared about, she had to limit that number to something she could handle. As they spend time together, she begins to see how wonderful he really is, but can she let go of her fears?
I had a hard time putting this book down. The opening chapter wasn't like anything I had read before, and the next several chapters added in other new elements. Hunter and Callie have great banter and amazing chemistry, but Callie also has terrific relationships with other women in town. I loved reading about Kennedy and Maverick's wedding and the appearances by previous characters. This was an excellent and unique read all the way around.

So entertaining!!

Another brilliant story by one of my favs. I absolutely loved Hunter who has a heart of gold and totally hot stuff. He is at the top of list of my fav book heroes. Callie is gorgeous in spirit and the way she deals with her life. Together they absolutely sizzle. All of the characters are heartwarming and loads of fun. The story was so entertaining to read and I couldn’t put the book down. A story I will definitely be rereading. Highly recommended

The Matchmaker and the Cowboy was another great addition to Robin Bielman’s Windsong series!

I loved Callie and Hunter together. Hunter is one sexy cowboy! 😉
I loved that he has always had feelings for Callie and how he was so patient with her. Callie has sworn off ever getting married because of her past relationships and her parent’s marriage, but Hunter might just be the one to break down those walls she’s put up to protect her heart.

This book was a fun, sexy, small town romance and characters are wonderful!

I love reading Robin’s books and I can’t wait for more!

Thank you to Robin Bielman for sending me a gifted copy of this book! I absolutely loved Callie and Hunt's story so much. I loved the feeling of chosen and found family and I loved how heartfelt it was. It was great to see this book set among the wedding of Kennedy and Maverick since readers saw their story unfold in book one. Hunter was so so swoony and I thought it was great to watch him continually fall for Callie. I thought the idea of the magical dresses was so much fun and it really tied in Callie's personality. This book was so sweet and I could read small town romance any day of the week. Robin really nailed this one and I think I liked this even more than The Wedding Crasher and the Cowboy which is wild because I truly loved that one too. Overall this was so cute and I would not be opposed to more Windsong love stories.

Callie and Hunter have know each other since childhood. When their paths cross will they be able to work out their feelings for each other? Dispute Callie’s past experiences.

Reading Callie and Hunter grow in this book was adorable. Humor sprinkled in here and there and of course we had some spice!

Over all an amazing cute romance.

Didn’t realize this was the second book in a series until after I already started but I don’t feel like I missed anything 💗
