A beginner's book that would be good for someone who doesn't really know what psychic abilities are other than what they've seen on TV and have no discernable psychic abilities or connection to their intuition, but are curious about these things. This book might be great for someone else, but it's not for me - the exercises (not picking up your phone first thing in the morning, cloud watching, positive statements) are just too basic for me.I also had a hard time connecting to the author's voice.
In the beginning chapters, descriptions of psychic ability and the clairs are on point. The author does a great job dispelling myths about psychics and psychic ability. There is a good list of resources in the back of the book. She also provides information on seeing a psychic and what types of things are red flags. A perfectly fine book for those who are brand new to this subject and to spiritual practices.
I was disappointed by this book because the author presents meditation, spending time in nature, dream recall, and other conventional relaxation practices as the primary path to awakening psychic abilities. While I do not dismiss the value of these methods entirely, I find them too ordinary to account for the development of such extraordinary abilities. In my view, they may help individuals who already possess some degree of psychic sensitivity refine or strengthen their experiences by reducing mental noise, but they are unlikely to awaken latent psychic abilities in people who have never demonstrated them. As a result, the book felt predictable and unoriginal rather than insightful.
More broadly, this book reinforced a concern I have with much of the psychic development literature. Many authors seem to repeat the same advice without offering a convincing explanation of how such abilities can be cultivated in others. I suspect this is often because they either do not fully understand how their own abilities developed or have only limited access to them. At a time when public interest in meta-human or psychic phenomena appears to be growing, I believe more serious authors should invest greater effort in researching and documenting unconventional methods instead of marketing the idea that “anyone can have it.” In my opinion, a rigorous work on psychic development should offer something more substantial than a typical self-help book.
I listened to this via the library Borrowbox twice, and then just had to buy my own copy on Audible. I really love the author's reading of her words, and it's such a gentle, kind, empowering read. I enjoy manifesting and meditating and this book really spoke to me.
This was a marvelous read, and not to be cheesy, but eye opening. I am interested in all things religious, spiritual, and intellectual. A superb demonstration of using belief for good!
