Spoiler alert.
This story had a promising beginning, but regrettably, it lacked depth. I've never encountered a suspenseful narrative that felt so predictable. I had high hopes for this book, but once I reached the halfway point, I found myself skimming through it frequently. I couldn't understand why the main character didn't see the danger right in front of her. Even though there was a suspicious person and strange things happening, like old bones and a messy cabin, Janna decided to be more reckless instead of being cautious. She had plans to opened a cabin resort and hire more staff. Even when Michael found a dead animal and scattered pizza boxes, they didn't act like something was wrong. Well, HE did but not Janna. She went out riding as her way to "stay safe". The story was just too predictable.
This stories felt rushed and didn't have enough detail. Claire changed the most even though she was mean and crazy, and Ian had his moments, but things got weird when Lauren showed up. He assumed things about her based on the way she looked instead of heart. He perhaps grew the most but it still felt rushed.
Near the end, Riley found a ring and clothes left behind that was dug but up nobody thought it could be related to the danger they were in. They should have gone to the police or found a safe place, but instead, they cleaned up and made plans to have fun afterwards. It was just plain silly and again, predictable.
I feel somewhat conflicted writing this review because the story was faith-based, which was the primary reason for my interest in it. The initial potential was there, but unfortunately, it took a steep nosedive soon after. Also, there wasn't much of a romantic element in the story, and what was there felt like it was added as an afterthought, which wasn't a big letdown, but it's worth mentioning that it didn't play a big part in the story.
