I was a huge fan of WMAC Masters as a kid. I re-watched the show last year for the first time as an adult, which led me down the Google rabbit hole to try and find more information about it. That's what led me to "Quest for the Dragon Star." What a fantastic resource! This book covers a lot of ground: how the show came to be, who the cast members really were, and some wonderful behind-the-scenes tidbits about each episode straight from the cast and crew themselves. One thing I really appreciated about Landis's approach to this book is how each WMAC master receives a respectful amount of time in the spotlight, from the mysterious and obscure Black Widow, to the more prominent "main characters" like Great Wolf and The Machine. No matter who your favorite master was, you'll find them featured somewhere in the book. Red Dragon! Olympus! Princess! Superstar! I really enjoyed learning more about my own favorite masters and what they've been up to since the end of the show. I can tell this project was a labor of love, and reading it filled me with childhood nostalgia and a whole new appreciation for how much work went into making every episode.
I highly recommend this book to any 90's kid who grew up reciting the 8 points of the Dragon Star. It probably won't make much sense to someone who's never heard of the show, but that can be rectified if you're interested... WMAC Masters can be found on certain video sharing sites. :)
If you were a fan of the WMAC Masters, this is easily the most thoroughly researched book that could ever be produced on the topic. Obviously a labor of love for the author, each episode is covered, interviews with the staff, producers, and the Masters themselves add facts and tidbits to make things more interesting. The parts covering what caused the downfall of the show and all of the in's and out's of toy tie ins and production companies would be of interest to anyone with even a passing interest in the television business. Then of course the "what could have been" chapter, where you finally get some idea of what would have come after that cliffhanger.... Yeah, just buy the book!
Excellent behind the scenes looking at the making of WMAC Masters. The pictures and script exerts bring the story together, along with every bit of input by the cast and crew.
