Continuing with my Mion/Shion confusion saga ... Mion (the one we know of as Mion from the start) just confessed Damn it. That means that it's not really a plot hole but it's also too convenient! I think I'm just going to let this rest (until I get to the Massacre arc.)

This is still one of my favorite "endings" for Hinamizawa. It's almost perfect. Shion is bonkers, we get some answers, and lots of people die. My favorite death (it's very creative and unexpected!) also occurs in this arc so I give it an extra star just for that.

The story really shines here and feels like the most cohesive yet. I'm hoping the rest continue in a similar vein.

And this concludes all the volumes I have of Highrashi I still wish the rest was in print but I will not hang onto these books anymore. I have read them to death, and some of their thrill is wearing off.

I give this series five stars because it does an excellent job with giving the reader a mystery that becomes more bizarre as you read it. Higurashi (in it’s entirety) would be a series that gets young manga readers into the horror genre keeping them enchanted by such an extraordinary tale.

I hope one day they will get a reprinting, but until then I give Higurashi my final farewell as I explore other manga series.

Shion’s quest for the truth (read: revenge) has gotten increasingly out of hand and, well, it seems like it won’t get much better. When everything is said and done, who’s left standing and what hope is there for a happy ending in a place like Hinamizawa?

Phew, this story has more curves than an algebraic graphing competition hosted on Lombard Street. If there’s any big knock against this story, it’s definitely keeping track of who’s who. It was bad enough last volume but midway through this book it goes totally haywire.

Which is fine! The series isn’t going to make Agatha Christie rise from her grave to accept the challenge, but what we get here is very satisfying. I was in no way let down by the ending, which answers a lot and offers a wry commentary on how people often assume far too much.

And it feels like a proper climax - the first thirty odd pages are a knock-down, drag-out resolution to the cliffhanger from before, which gets nice and violent before a calm (relatively speaking) that begets even more violence. It is so of this book that the solution is as bad, if not worse, than the events that precipitated it.

At the heart of it all, the black, black heart, is the danger of assuming things to be true. And while I dinged Shion for doing so, she’s not the only person who created this whole entire mess simply by angling an assumption. She’s just the most immediate example.

I do think the madness that takes people here is a little crazy, but this does lean on the supernatural quite a bit (that ending... brr...) and Shion has been losing it for a while now so it’s not out of place for where her character is, just straining against credulity as smidgen.

By the time the dust clears, well, it ends the only way that a story set in this place feels like it can sometimes. It dovetails really well with events in the original ‘cotton drifting arc’ and reminds you just how vicious that got even without knowing all the additional mayhem.

I was tempted to read it again to see just how well it fits, but honestly this is good enough to just let yourself flow with it to its ending (and even knowing that smash cut is coming at the very end? No less brutal.).

4 easy stars, probably even a 4.5. This isn’t the end of Higurashi, but if it was I would seriously have no complaints. There are still some mysteries left to solve - one very big one lingers over this entire story arc that everybody seems to be assuming - but it wraps up enough that it is an excellent denouement in its own right.

I almost say that I disappointed with this arc, but I glad I haven't said it. In the middle of story there is some theory that is definitely nonsense and I will disappointed if the story end with that decision, but gladly at the almost end it's turn up with a quick chat between Shion and Mion. And now everything is very make sense but it still leaves some mystery.

OK these are something I note from this arc:

1. It is long. The story begins from the day before the 4th murder of Oyashiro Sama Curse. And then it should tell us several details about Shion relationship with Satoshi. But then it jumps into a year later when Keichi appear. At the first time I am afraid that the story will be very long, but once I came into the section when Keichi appear, I see that the story is moving faster. But it's catch-able, it skip several unimportant scene from 2nd arc and just show important part from Shion point of view. There is two things to adapt: 1) The different perspective from man protagonist into woman protagonist is need some time and effort (surely man and woman have different point of view is seeing something) and 2) The pace which sometime slow and sometime fast, it's irregular compared to the first 3 episode which mostly has same pace in from the beginning to the end. Additional info: the comic contain 4 volume, see it's long as I said :D. As usual, I place my review on the last volume

2. I am salute to the author, since they can provide answer without answer it fully. Yes we have 4 arcs for the answer, so the answer shouldn't spread out into 4 parts. Usually in detective case, the solution part is very to the point and very quick although they have bunch of mystery. But gladly Higurashi series is different. We have 4 answers and although we open the first answer, the next three is pretty mystery. I can't wait for the next answer arc

3. Shion is really troublesome girl. I just can't imagine how she change her mind very quick and always try to defend herself with crazy argument inside her head. After all, the psycho though is abnormal. I want to say more but it can't be done without spoiling the tense of story itself, so better I will stop in here and let you find yourself what is going on with Shion. For sure it's complicated.

4. It adds some new theme songs (I think there is 2 new songs). And I like it. It's a very beautiful song I think.

Can't wait for next Arc 6.

If you're squeamish, you'll want to approach this volume with caution. Then again, since you've read the series this far then you're well aware of how gruesome some of the artwork can get when it comes to the younger characters. I know that there are far more graphic depictions of people getting hurt and killed. I know that there are more graphic depictions that specifically focus on young girls such as Satoko. But I still have to warn you that it's here, but then like I said: if you've read this far then you're full aware of how bad it can get. And if you're wondering, then YES. This is the volume with the infamous "Rika Knife" scene. That's really what I'm mostly referring to when I give this warning. It's fairly graphic.

This volume brings up a few surprising points in the series, but all in all serves its purpose as an answer arc to the Shion/Mion Cotton Drifting Arc. I can't help but feel sorry for all of the characters as a whole, especially Shion and Rika. Her true personality had begun to be revealed in the Time Killing Arc and we're given more hints as to what's really going on during this arc. Of course we won't get the full story until much later, but like the previous volume I'm surprised at how much I missed even when I did know what was going on while reading this.

The art here is well, it's good. It is a little hard to praise all of the artwork when you have a 9-10 year old girl doing what Rika did to herself, but the scene is suitably creepy and unnerving. It really goes well against the lighter art style that periodically shows up in the volume. It helps to show exactly how wrong and unnatural the entire scenario is and how much torment the characters have suffered from as a result of the repeating summer of Hinamizawa.

Definitely not a volume to miss.

Wow. This has to be one of the darkest volumes in the Higurashi series thus far. I feel so bad for Shion. None of this would ever have happened had her and Satoshi gotten to live a happy life together.

So many twists in this final volume. This one is definitely the most gruesome volume in this arc. I was a little stunned by all the gore. I definitely found Shion’s perspective confusing yet fascinating.

It seems like the Shion we knew this whole time was actually Mion, and they switched roles in their childhood. Shion Sonozaki was actually Mion Sonozaki, and Mion Sonozaki was Shion Sonozaki.

Unlike the “Mion” we’ve known however Shion’s motivations were for revenge and not Oyashiro-sama’s curse. However, the biggest twist of all I’d say, is that the Sonozaki family was not behind the yearly killings, but took credit for them. An amazing finale, in my opinion. 5/5 ☆ stars

I try to have something little to say about each individual volume but it can be hard to figure out what to say... Not much is coming to me for this one, really.

Well, next arc was my least favourite so maybe we'll see if I was just being unfair to it in my anticipation for arc 7.

I rate this 4.5 stars.

I'm not sure if I will write a review for this book and arc yet. If I do, I will try to write it by the Monday. Because right now, I'm not sure what to say.

I felt sorry for her, because of the love she had for him. The fact that she loved him and lost him. It wasn't fair in my opinion.

This has got to be one of the darkest and gory and well suspenseful arc yet. So far anyway. Drawn well and story wise it was really good. Creepy but good. And that ending.
