Sometimes the greatest rebellion comes from your own heart
Lord Norik might be the king’s nephew, but he has no intention of being pressured into a political marriage. With the support of both his parents and the magic he was born with, he can’t imagine a situation where he would be forced to do anything he didn’t want, including marrying the daughter of some disgruntled lord.
Lady Elsabeth, meanwhile, has never been good at standing up for herself. She’s fully resigned to playing whatever part her father commands in his attempt to increase the influence of their province. Until she meets Lord Norik, that is, and can see at a glance that someone as impressive as him could never be interested in her mouselike self.
What neither of them could predict is that someone outside their families might be opposed to their union. Maybe even willing to kill over it. They’ll have to work together to prevent others from paying the price—and while they might be set on resisting the demands placed on them, their hearts seem even more determined to defy their own expectations.
An Expectation of Magic is a novella set in the world of Vazula and Kyona. It comes after The Kyona Legacy trilogy (but can be read without any prior reading) and forms a prequel to The Vazula Chronicles. If you enjoy adventure, fantasy, clean romance, and hard-won happily ever afters, discover the world of Vazula and Kyona today!
Deborah Grace White was more or less born reading. She grew up on a wide range of books, from classic literature to light-hearted romps. Her love of fantasy was inevitable from the time her father read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy to her and her siblings when she was four years old.
The love of reading has traveled with her unchanged across multiple continents, and carried her from her own childhood all the way to having children of her own.
But if reading is like looking through a window into a magical and beautiful world, beginning to write her own stories was like discovering she could open that window and climb right out into fantasyland.
Now she gets to live that childhood dream amidst the fun and chaos of life with her husband and their four kids.
I quite enjoyed this. It's heart-warming, has some action though the pacing of the action at the end felt a bit rushed. The romance is slowburn and sweet and the MC's have depth. I know this is somehow part of a series, which I haven't read, but it read fine like a standalone.

Loved getting to see Norik as a young man. I loved him as a father, loved him as a toddler, and now I can love him as a young man too. I just wish this series had a family tree. And that they had a universal chronological order in goodreads cause I read them all in the wrong order which I absolutely loathe.
I enjoyed reading this really wonderful book! This book has wonderful characters and a wonderful plot! I had a hard time putting this really wonderful book down! I really loved reading all of the books in this really wonderful series!
A delightful little novella! The characters are great and seeing the magic develop is so fun! A sweet love story, and I can’t wait to start the next series!
This was a fun story about Heath's parents and Princess Jocelyn's son (Both of them have full series, Vazula and Kyona). But Norik is quite a character, and I really enjoyed meeting him as a dashing, young Lord and seeing his romance with sweet Elsabeth. And a young Reka makes his first appearance!
This was so good! I loved seeing Norik and Elsabeth before they were married. It made me want to dive back into these books and finally read the Kyona Chronicles! Available to the author's newsletter subscribers, and much longer than I expected!
