Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.

In real life, when you kill a wicked witch no one gives you ruby slippers. No happy munchkins jump around singing questionable songs about your greatness. No yellow brick road pops up to help you on your way to a happier life. It’s just more of the same. More days spent working to scrape a living, and more hustling through life in search of better times. More slog, less singing and dancing.
My name is Lucy Driver. I stopped the Blood Witch killing children in my city. Now I face an even greater danger. A Witch Hunter has been sent to investigate. If they find out I was the one to kill the witch, they’ll stop at nothing to take my life. Only problem is, I don’t know who they are and unless I can figure it out everyone I care about is in danger.

Magic Returns is Book 2 of the Magic Returns series. It’s full of vampires, shifters, and witches. If you enjoy urban fantasy stories with a plenty of action, snark and a kick-ass heroine, then you’ll love reading Magic Returns. Grab your copy today!

interesting premise, let down by the editing

Multiple grammar and homophone issues throughout, including commas in the wrong spaces which makes reading difficult and using the wrong spelling of words, leaving one needing to re-read a sentence a few times to determine what was actually meant. These occur at a frequency similar to the first book and don't seem to have been improved upon.

The first book finished with a promise of increased romantic descriptions in this book, which was not delivered on. One potential suitor was clearly taken out of the running with a line of thought from the main character that he wasn't interested beyond power, without much writing prior to that to really back that up or help the reader accept or come to that conclusion. Another has been set up as the male lead, but after ignoring the main character for weeks with poor explanations and little relationship building beyond 'oh no, he's hot' and less support than the one that was dismissed as power focused.

There's potential for the story with the snippets of lore we've been given, but the poor proofreading, telling without showing relationships and the complete and sudden acceptance by the lead of her parentage lets the writing down.

Magic Returns, A Review. LAS.

The author is truly a gifted storyteller. No doubt about that, her stories are interesting and riveting.
However, there are typos on just about every page. Most often words left out. Commas in the middle of sentences where they're doing nothing except confusing the meaning. Words used incorrectly. Meet, instead of mete.
I wouldn't mention it except that there are so many.
This author needs to pull the quality of the writing up to the quality of the storytelling, by having a good proofreader go over her work. Strongly advised.

Book 1 in the series was pretty good. Interesting characters, lots of action, good conflict between characters. A couple plot holes and some awkward language but overall decent.

This one was significantly more problematic. I read it because I’d liked the characters in book 1 and I wanted to see where the story took them, but I was constantly jarred by the exceptionally poor grammar. Over 60% of the sentences were run ons/comma splices, and there were multiple other grammatical errors on top of that. Several more plot holes made the story far more inconsistent.

3.5 Stars: Good, but Needs More Editing

This book picked up right where the last ended—bringing more action, more intrigue, and a smidge more romance to the series so far. The potential was definitely there for this book to be great, but ultimately it sits in the “alright” pile for me. Having said that, it’s a testament to the author’s world-building that even with all the errors within, I still enjoyed its story.

As with the last book, it needed a fair amount of editing to really shine, but it’s not unreadable without it.

I like the main character a lot better when she’s not drooling over some guy…. But this book is in dire need of some basic proofreading
Circles and evil grandmothers, oh my! Still very much channeling IA
And yep…. I figured out the big reveal ahead of time again…. Although I was fooled for a fair bit so kudos to the author for that…. That said…. I’m kinda baffled by the temper tantrum / destroy the apartment thing…. What was that about?

I like the writing and the humour. There is a bit of reader frustration with Lucy being a bit dense about things that should be obvious to her like who the bad guy/girl is, but at least she admits it to herself later on.
This is like the first book in the series in that it needs a good edit.
From the low number of reviews this has I would say this author deserves a bit more readership.

Lost Interest in a Story Going Nowhere

I only continued reading the series out of curiosity more than enjoyment, as needed something light and quick to read on the train. First book, was fine for that, but now the story and characters really hasn't gone or done anything. Lost interest in. Readable, but nothing memorable or makes me want to pick up and re-read.

addictive!

Such an awesome series, I’m absolutely hooked on the life and times of Lucy. Her vulnerability mixed with pragmatic strength is very enchanting

I’m so torn with this series. The story is great, I love the characters but it is sorely in need of a good edit and the constant small errors distract from an overall great story.

Whoever proofreads needs to be more thorough. It distracts from the story when you get caught up in typos and word placement problems.
Overall a very enjoyable read.

Loved it. Great adventure full of interesting magic. The mystery was obvious but I was happy to watch it play out. I like that I this series the MC talks about her menstrual cycle, rarely done in UF.

I’m guessing the author didn’t decide to continue writing this story? It’s been 3 years since the 2nd was released and I’ve seen no indication of a 3rd book.
