Disrespectful (Spoilers)

I don’t know how I feel about this book in the series. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. It was just something that I read. It left me with so many unanswered questions that left me unsatisfied that I don’t consider this necessarily a good story. I enjoyed the first two stories. However, this one was... Annoying. I did not feel sorry for Chrissie. She had ample opportunity, to tell the truth to Rain, but instead, she withheld the information even after he repeatedly asked. If anything, I feel sorry for Rain because he had an effed-up childhood. Rain had mother and daddy issues that were still holding him hostage.
I’m not saying that Chrissie didn’t have addictions. But in the same breath that she thought that Rain could go to therapy. She needed to be right there joining him. Plus, having to deal with Livingston and his bull because Chrissie was being shady and not telling the truth. That he had to question her for sketchy behavior, hell, anybody with some sense would have done some investigating after how she acted when he first examined her about seeing Livingston. And she could’ve answered honestly because it was before their relationship, so Rain couldn’t hold anything against her because it was before they went from a causal to a serious relationship. The only reason he even got upset was that he thought she was having an affair during their relationship. He understood who she was before they even got together.

Ultimately Rain was clearly being set up by Curley and Livingston, who played a part in Rain becoming a junkie. My question is, how exactly? It is never explained unless I missed something. How did he get the pills in the first place? He was in so much pain could barely Order the takeout. Or how did Rain end up with Curley in the Mountain? Where the hell is Rebel? Why did Chrissie not have enough sense to seek out one of his brothers? I understand talking to your best friend about your man for advice, but her actions were not well thought out. I supposedly love this person that I see in a state of apparent pain, and I don’t think to tell his family so they could help him. If I remember correctly, she even says I think he has a concussion and still doesn’t go to his family. As I said, there are so many unanswered questions. I’m probably missing some, but I don’t think I should not have to read another book to figure out what the hell happened in this book.

If you’ve read the last two, then you know that these stories are tough reads.

I was genuinely rooting for the MCs, Chrissie tested my patience but I understood why she was how she was, which was maybe more of me filling in the gaps. This is an intense love story about two deeply damaged souls.

I understand the need to leave parts of this story empty so they can pay off later, however I feel that in this book, some of the wholes and the sometimes unclear time jumps damaged the experience for me.

With that said, I’m hooked and very curious to see where the story goes, this author pushes your comfort boundaries. I do hope that this series isn’t too long because there are a lot of unresolved issues throughout the series.

Of all the three I think this one might lose some people the stories will pull out some strong opinions but this series is very intriguing. I genuinely recommend that you read it and make your own opinion.

2.5. So I initally passed on this book, because I thought it would continue the story of Rain betraying Roman and leading him into an ambush. Alas, it's NEVER addressed. The book instead goes back to Rain and Chrissie meeting in high school and reconnecting as adults. First, I HATE 'misunderstanding' tropes. The whole name mixup with Rain and Chrissie drove me nuts. HOW did Chrissie not know Rain's name when Severin referenced 'Rain McCall' the night he took Chrissie home after the party, and Rain told her his name, in her room, the night before she left town? Ok, granted it was also raining but, come on, this is the second time she'd heard the name! Outside of that, the first half of the book was pretty good.

At 51%, it all starts going to hell, just completely pointless drama of Chrissie's own making for no good reason. How is she a nurse, just out here making the worst contraceptive decisions? It was just a rushed, 'made no daggone sense and supplied no answers' plot of manufactured baby drama, Rain falling into drugs again, Minnie telling Rain where Chrissie had moved to because, apparently, being with a drug addict that had done stuff so horrible while in the throes of addiction that everyone else cut him off, was better than being alone. What??? How is that your friend? The whole second half was trash. Furthermore, at the end of Book 2, the Feds have Rain so where is this in the timeline? Did we really just skip all that in the five 'lost' months, and should just assume that's part of why Roman was so adamant he leave the mountain?

Having read Books 4, 5, and 6, I will tell you this series only gets worse. Book 1 is still the best, with book 2 being a decent sequel for the first 80%. Do yourself a favor and, if you don't completely skip the rest, at least manage your expectations.

'Small Town Rogue' was riveting until it wasn't. This installment from the series boasted of nail-biting action, tension, suspense, and unconditional love. Sounds great, right? Then, some of the scenes became muddled: What happened to Curley holding Rain hostage in setting the trap for Roman? Since Chrissie is a nurse, why wouldn't she have called for an ambulance when she saw Rain was in such dire straits? How could she have been living in such horrible conditions without seeking pre-natal medical help for her unborn baby? How could she have been singled out for stealing drugs from the hospital without any proof? And, if proof had been provided, wouldn't she have been in prison somewhere? How could Minnie, a veterinarian, just give Dixie to Rain after seeing his condition (he could barely take care of himself) how could Rain buy a house/apartment building within a matter of days and why would he do that when it was wasting a lot of money? What happened to Rebel's situation with the dead woman in his truck bed? What happened to Roman and Saverin after the DEA agent came upon them? How could Roman kick Rain off the mountain knowing he couldn't talk and was really in poor condition and didn't know where he was? There were just way too many loose ends that needed to be tied up and/or scenes that just didn't make any sense. However, at least, one person got his comeupance. Another person just needs to get his.
I give this one 2.5 stars.

I just felt like it didn’t really answer any questions at the end of the book, like I know that this is a series but it didn’t even answer some of the questions that should have been answered in this book like: is rebel in jail, if he is for how long, who killed that lady, why was rebel set up, what really happened in the five months that rain was in the coma. You could argue that these questions might get answered in the next book but the next book doesn’t even follow the last McCall brother soooo will it??

Idk I just wanted more question to be answered at the end that’s all but the smut was good and I like rain McCall soooo.👍🏾

I liked the story alright. Was nice to read about Chrissie and Rain. They had great chemistry, and I liked how they never really forgot about each other, even though the whole thing was a bit far fetched. But it kind of worked. And even when it took a somber turn, it was interesting. What disappointed me was that at about 3/4th of the story, it just...stopped. Like it went downhill with making any sense. The entire thing felt rushed. It was very frustrating seeing how interesting the characters were. But they just suddenly acted so out of character! The whole 'daddy' thing was annoying, Chrissie turned into some coward. Then all of a sudden Rain spirals. And then bam, fast-forward and then... Ugh. I felt cheated by the very anticlimactic plot twist. There was no explanation of any sort. Until the final act that just made no sense. So yeah, that was disappointing.

Interesting read

Both Chrissie and Rain are truly broken, especially apart. Too many missing parts,I'm still confuse about what really happened between Rain, Rebel and Roman.
What's the deal with Livingston?
Love this series ❤️

"I hate secret baby plots."

As do I. I was most excited to read this one. I like a woman who lives life on her own terms. One who enjoys sex regardless of what others think but not when its really her acting due to trauma and

Unfortunately, this was my least favorite book so far. Perhaps the author ran out of points of contention. The whole ex situation seemed like drama for the sake of drama. Idk. Other than his introduction for possible later books, he served no real purpose. Sure he made trouble for her at work (possibly; probably) but he could have done that without the rekindling of old things. I will say that it did give an indepth look at her psyche. In the other book she came off as carefree and like maybe she had a YOLO state of mind. Here she was kinda sad, like her behavior was fueled by trauma, mommy issues and insecurity. You could see the inner turmoil of I don't really wanna but I don't know how to say no - I'll use my drinking as an excuse like my mother did.

Usually its the virgins or young girls who are written emotionally unstable and hostile for no reason. I never expected this from Chrissie. It happened before they got together. She started acting weird bc she was lying to him and herself. Like girl, quit being a weirdo and go find out. I'm thankful this wasn't the first installment, otherwise I probably wouldn't have continued the series.

And thank you Busta Blood for asking all the questions I was. She was acting super clueless (and a bit delusional) for a nurse when it came to those particular medical matters.

I'd like to say more but don't want to leave any spoilers. Well, any more spoilers. I felt I was being vague but I'm sure it reveals some of what happens.

I will say this book was far from predictable (except the baby situation). From the backstory and the set up I thought that things would go in a different direction. From the previous books we knew Rain was a recovering alcoholic and moved on to pills. After that I was apprehensive about reading this because I know all too well the chaos that surrounds loving a person in this position. However, it barely made a dent. I mean it did but it didn't - you'll see when you read it. I expected the ex or her deceit to play a bigger role in causing issues in their relationship or his subsequent fall off the wagon (which we learned about in the last book). I thought maybe the ex would be how he acquired the pills. Idk, so many possibilities.

The excerpt from the newest installment seems promising, though.

Enjoyed!

The storyline was good and I loved the main characters. I felt like they had some unanswered questions that I wanted answered. The story was good but it felt a little slow my opinion only may not be yours. I hope the questions get answered in the next book. I want to know what happen to Livingston he shouldn't have got away with the things he did.. If you haven't read this series I would recommend.

Lazy writing

I've read all the books written in this series so far. I've enjoyedb them for the most part. This book is lazy. The author couldn't fill in details so went with an amnesia story that never included the reader. I can deal with cliffhangers but not if it happens 3/4 through the book. Now I have to read the next book and hope I get amswers and the rest of the story. It would have been a solid 3.5 for me but that left a sour taste in my mouth.

Love & addiction💕😚💕

I was looking forward to this 3rd book in the series and have mixed feelings about it🫤.

It was nice to see Rain and Chrissie’s romance develop😍. They both had a tough upbringing, and those experiences did seep into their relationship.  Chrissie’s decision making was questionable and wished she was more honest and forthcoming.  Rain was in love as soon as he learned who she was from his past😘.  The chemistry between them was most definitely hot and was happy for them having found each other again🥰.  The situation with Rain’s addiction and his falling off the wagon is not clear at all.  He was in a bad way at the end of the second book and certain information were mentioned but it seemed limited.  Same with how Roman and Rebel dealt with Rain because the outcome was surprising and I would have liked to know the reason behind it😟. Also, how did Livingston’s alliance with the snatch hills folks turn out? Chrissie and Rain have their so called HEA but it was a rough ride and it looks like they have a tough road ahead😬.

Overall it was good book but with just a few key information it would have helped strengthen the story. I do hope the next book will go into what happened with the brothers🙂.

when it rains it pours

But there’s sunshine after the rain!

Rain had a hard life from birth through adulthood. He was just trying to survive and keep his sanity. His family situation was toxic so he distanced himself. He’s an alcoholic constantly falling off and jumping back on the wagon. His past pain and memories he’d rather keep buried are triggers. His one good experience was a girl from his youth.
Chrissie just wanted to be a nurse, have some good life and a good man. The only thing she had out of that statement is that she was a nurse. She was a maneater so no good men around. She too had a troubled past and her family was trash. She had a problem with choosing bad men which led to drama and heartbreak. One of her few good memories was the boy with the blue eyes.
12 years later and they finally cross paths. The heat between these two is always combustible but it seems like life is always trying to tear them apart through family, ex’s, racism, lies, and addictions.

I took a star away because so much time was spent on their life together, but there time apart was rushed over and quickly explained away and then boom their back and then thee end.

Still a good read though.

2⭐️

Chrissie and Rain’s love story started off on a whirlwind at a youngish age. It was during a time where racism was still alive on the hill they lived on.

The prologue confused me straight from the start because it wasn’t tied back together when I was reading. Now the chemistry between the two could be felt seeing as they were always going at it, but that’s as far as it got.

There was a lot of potential but it’s like the storyline just jumped and there were so many gaps. I read Romans story and skipped unto this book so not sure if there are gaps but even still, it could’ve been tied together better. I was skimming just to get to the end and stumbled upon a jump in a couple months where Rain went back to drugs and Chrissies bump grew.

If baffled was a person it’s me. There was such a jump and it annoyed me because Rain was kicked off his land after they sold it. The story was not concluded well, because it was rushed with no conclusion on how they stayed together. So much was left unsaid, like what really happened to Rain!!!?

I know Marion can produce better books, and I wasn’t a fan of the last book so idk why I even tried with this one, I guess the blurb drew me in lol.

This book left me with A LOT of unanswered question. Where’s Rebel? What’s going to happen to ROMAN? Who killed Duke? What happened with with the Serial killer(as if we couldn’t guess who was the killer)? I was a little disappointed with this story. I liked Rain, but Chrissy was getting on my last nerve with the back and forth about Livingston it just dragged on too much for me. She didnt have the trust or secure in her relationships with Rain or her friendship with Minnie that she couldn’t say anything. For a nurse in some instance she was dumb.

RAIN AND CHRISSY were two broken people who just fit each other. They had the potential to improve and better each other but were just lacking confidence in themselves and their relationship . Honestly, Chrissy could have been so much better for Rain and his Rock, his RIDE OR DIE if she had been able to address her own issues.

This wasn’t a bad read. There wasn’t any cohesiveness to the flow of the story. I will most likely finish the entire series because I am dying to get those questions addressed and answered.

Ok, I've read all three books about 3 of the 4 McCalls and I'm feeling kinda neutral about the characters and the storylines. The hypocrisy of the south is covered as white men mix, mingle and love these beautiful black women who they were taught to only treat as whores and servants. I like that the sincerity of their love is tested when they have to choose between perpetuating the hate of their culture or loving a Black woman. Each man has to fight against society to love the woman of his choice. The brothers are great, and they each have specific struggles they have to deal with and challenges they have to overcome. The common evil is the father who raised them in an extremely violent way. Dear ole Dad is a racist monster.

By the 3rd book, you hope to get answers to some of the situations the brothers got themselves into. You are looking forward to a big reveal but are disappointed because your questions go unanswered.
I'm not sure I want to invest anymore time reading the next books when this book should have wrapped up the storyline. Was the serial killer caught? Did Roman and Rain ever have a reconciliation? Just some of the questions I have. Lots of gaps in the storyline. I'm not sure I want to continue with this series. I gave one star because I like the brothers and the other because the storyline was somewhat interesting. Other than that, this is not worth reading.

Liked the most so far...

Of all the books I've read thus far in the series I like this one the most despite some lingering questions. I like Rain and Chrissie even though, again, the dialogic makes me shake my head sometimes. I love their past history together and seeing them reconnect. I don't know if the next book in there series is going to address: how Roman/Saverin eacaped the mountain raid and got ahold of Rain, Rebel's absence, Livingston stalking Chrissie and his proclivities harming women, Roman and Serena's baby, and why when Rain was leaving Roman's house Serena looked sad when looking at Roman's and Isaiah's shoes on the floor...lots of questions that I hope get answered but maybe not...

Currently reading and nervous about finishing.

Partly because I would have to wait til march
Partly because I really hated Rain in Small Town King,
Starting to like him. Yes he's indeed a rougue!
Now I'm sniffing about these reviews and getting spoilers.
LOrt!
Ms. Meadows do reward Saverin Baily with a nice honey.
And I can't wait to get to know Ross better
IDK how I would feel if this became a 10-book series. (I think I can trust you not to give me the same story in a different title.)
I have to say! You have a talent for forming your couples to match one another, which is one of the aspects I appreciate about your writing.

Rain and Chrissie - What a book!

What can I say about this book? There were times I had to put it down, it was that intense! Rain has always only cared about himself…that’s kind of the ‘baby of the family’ mentality. Unfortunately, he can’t remember what happened…the horrific details would probably kill him. He’s hurt enough that Roman won’t have anything to do with him and he doesn’t know where Rebel is….all because of Curly and drugs! The only bright part is that he found Chrissie. I hope Livingston is addressed in the next book!
Waiting, not so patiently for the next book!

All In The Family

That’s what I think when I see the last name of all the men, one there related and two all of them are fallen for black women. Keeping it all in the family ☺️, that have in our family. The L decided that they wanted the Z family or relatives and that’s what they settled on. To me it was a mess, who knew. But I love this series, I was thinking those pills that Livingston bought could they have somehow been given to Rain. That would explain the memory lose and speech loss, but I’m glad that Chrissie and Rain was able to get back together. This story was really intense loved every page, going for book 4.
I know I’ll be reading this series over and over.

So I've read three books in this series with hopes that they'll get better... I don't know, some of us read to escape and enjoy these beautiful other lives, given the fact that we don't get many black heroines.... This series is just........sad.
The endings don't give off HEA, they are so bland - there's little to no character development with the MLs, the female leads are unlikeable.

Also what era is this novel in? Why tf are they acting like it's the 1800s but they've got technology?
I wouldn't know about small towns but dang.

If anyone reads my review please recommend a GOOD novel with a black FL.

Very Good Book

Rain and Chrissie are one twisted couple for sure. I mean their relationship was off The Charts. They Loved each other hard and very passionately. And very experimental in they way they both showed physical Love They both had their issues about their lives.

I just don’t think Roman should have sent Rain out of town like he did. Especially since Rain’s situation wasn’t totally his fault. And what in the world happened to Rebel? I hope I finally get to know what happened to him soon.

Because l have an idea why Rain and Rebel are in the situations that they are in now. I hope to see it all played out.

emotional roller coaster

I found the beginning of the Book interesting but sort of slow when I compared it to the first two books but boy, did the ending really get the adrenaline flowing. I’m still feeling the effects I’m traumatized and need more details of what happened. I thought I would not warm to Rain but I did. I wish there was more information about what his father did to him as I’m not sure if what I’m believing is correct,I did get a bit frustrated with Chrissie but what happened to her was heartbreaking

Another racist book.

This one was a little muddled. It is hard for a white supremist to fall in love with a person of color. They have to constantly fight for their right to love that person. I may not read the next book because this is too real. It is very hard on you mental health. It is very hard to separate the real from fiction with what's going on in today's world. Blatant, unbridled, in your face racism. This book embodies it.

When it Rains

Small Town Rogue picks up where Roman’s story left off. We then get the evolution of Rain and Chrissie’s saga. Out of the couples Ms Meadows has given these two seem to be the most broken. They are full of secrets and hidden pain. The story ends on a relatively upbeat note and I hope we get some closure on certain loose threads. Another EXCELLENT entry in the Sins of the South series.

I've be waiting for this one

I liked the book but chrissy was just...such an emotional unavailable b! I get it there's parts that we as the reader know that they don't know yet. But gezz! She was always running away from her problems then get made when she had to face something. I think rain deserves better..I mean yes they are in the way to HEA. Buth hopefully chrissy doesn't jump to a dang conclusion and run away!

Rain was a character

I enjoyed Rain and Chrisse’s story, I just didn’t get or like how there were so many gaps in the story. It looks like unresolved issues and unanswered questions is theme in all the books in this series. Rain disappears for a while and we never learn where he’s been, how long he was out, etc. And what ever happened to Livingston and his secrets? Maybe the next story will shed some light on these unanswered questions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

great!

I do love this series. I really like strong characters and how imperfect they are and how they have overcome horrible challenges and childhood trauma to make something of themselves.
Although the whole series is a dark,Small Town Rogue has a lighter side to it. Chrissie and Rain might just be my favourite couple.
