Give It a Go

Rate this book
When visitors move on to other churches, Pastor Greg recites excuses for why church attendance is dropping. Two years after the death of his beloved wife, Dana, however, he realizes that, without a trained, fulltime partner in ministry, the church will continue to suffer. Greg feels the Lord leading him to open his heart again.
Jennifer is happy with her life and job in America and glad to live close to her children and grandchildren. When MacKenzie suggests Jennifer take a puppet team to New Zealand, Jennifer suspects a matchmaking scheme. She responds with a definite “uh uh.” No way is she going to traipse down to New Zealand to throw herself at a pastor she respects too highly to consider dating. Or would dating even be possible in their situation?
When the compelling nature of the trip calls to Jennifer, however, she agrees to go, but only to pass new skills on to mission churches. When Greg asks the unthinkable, will she be willing to give the idea a go, trusting God to lead her down a different path, not knowing where it will lead?

I really enjoyed this book. Because our family have relocated from the United States to New Zealand, I could very easily relate to the struggles of the Americans to understand the Kiwi culture and mindsets. It was fun to read about a familiar setting, and I also felt like I knew the people in the story. They felt like real people, and I could identify with many of their struggles. There were several sub-plots that not only had good points to bring out on their own, but also added to the overall story. I will be looking forward to more books from this author!

Relatable characters and story!

Self reflection is part of the ingredients for personal growth as a person. I like how Deb Brammer's characters grow as you see their realistic inner struggles which encourage the reader to grow in faith and trust in God too. I found myself sympathizing with the characters and wanting to pray for them. Hey, but this is fiction. Well worth a read.

Good

I enjoy stories that give a glimpse into the lives of people and cultures that are different from mine. This book fits. And it also is a good example of hearing directions from the LORD.

Excellent series. I love that these books are set in beautiful New Zealand, one of the most stunning and interesting countries I’ve ever visited. I found the characters and situations true-to-life but with enough drama to keep the pages turning. I blew through the first two books in the series in a few days. Also enjoying reading the third in the series.
