Very unhappy with the two-year sentence, or as they call it, commitment, she figures she’ll try to make the best of it.Determined to stay out of trouble and just do her time, Paige learns the temptations at the Academy are going to hold her back from toeing the line and keeping her points low so she can get a weekend pass. She tells everyone—including herself—that she just wants to get out for a free weekend, away from the stuffy Academy. But what she really wants is to find out who’s behind her beloved grandmother’s death. So, until she behaves and gets her points down low enough to get a pass, she has to contend with a smoking hot dragon shifter, an irresistible, broody vampire, and the school’s sexy warlock headmaster—who likes to enforce rules that he himself loves to break.Magic & Monsters is book 1 in the Larchwood Corrective Academy series, and is for readers 18+.Larchwood Corrective Academy Series (must be read in order):Curses & CharmMagic & MonstersRunes & RitualsSecrets & Spells

Holy shiznet!!! What a gr8 story. It ends in a cliffhanger, but I kinda figured that. I'm looking forward to reading the next book. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
This book has it all!!! Magic, every paranormal creature you can think of, bad girls, even badder boys, drama and hotness!!! Love all the characters especially the foul mouthed, snarky lead...Paige. Another captivating, new twist on paranormal from one of my favorite authors. Be prepared to stay up half the night reading this one. Absolutely will not want to put it down!!!
You ever read a book and want more? Well this will definitely be one of those books. I didn’t want it to end. I need to know what’s going to happen next. Why can’t this book be the whole trilogy in one? Lol
I really like all the characters in this book! Paige, Jory, Brecken, Astrid, Griggs, Jaxon. They all bring their own entertainment to this story!!!
I have so many questions about what happens next to these characters. I cannot wait for book 2 to release so I can get some answers!! Amazing story CJ Pinard!!!
Omg I couldn't get enough. The main character Paige is a hoot ...
I couldn't stop laughing.... and damn it I want more...this is the book where if your gonna read you don't want to stop and just want to get lost and live in this world
This book has issues. First, nothing actually happens; no plot, no conflict, no climax, meaning no resolution or growth. It's about a girl who attends remedial school with some hot guys, argues with a mean chick, and wants to bang the headmaster (well, and the hot guys obvi)
Which leads me to issue #2. Intercourse with a teacher/headmaster. It's one thing for the student to have wayward fantasies, it's another for those desires to be reciprocated and acted upon.
And, without revealing too much, how the hell did Paige qualify to end up at this place? Two characters reveal the crimes that landed them at the Academy included manslaughter. Paige made a chick think she had food poisoning. Not seeing how those two very different crimes can have the same consequences ...
Lastly, several scenes could have been written better (see my highlights), which lead to the characters and world being under developed. That may just be my personal preferences, but I don't like it when a book talks at me. I have a good imagination, let me use it.
This is my first book by C.J. Pinard and I throughly enjoyed the story. It has a lot of moments that just had me laughing so hard. We meet Paige and let me tell you she is sassy and has a mouth on her that she really has trouble keeping closed. But, the stuff that comes out is hilarious at times. We meet Jory and Breckon and these two are definitely very sure of themselves and go after what they want. Then there is the roommate Astrid. I love her as a side character. She has her fantastic moments that blend perfectly with Paige. Finally we have the headmaster Griggs. He is a definite mystery. I really hope we learn more about him in the next book. The story is well written and developed. It does end in a cliffhanger and has me excited for the next book.
So this book is most definitely page turner. Finished the book in 1 day. The magic, the badass women, and then even hotter guys, it leaves you wanting more. But has the worse ending ever “to be continued”. Clearly, this is an introductory book and spends time when character development but plot line is pretty flat. I got to the end of the book wondering “so what was the book about?” To be honest, I have no idea. But I guess, that’s what the second book is for.
I wasn't really a fan of this book. While the main character and her best friends were very well written and had clear, distinct personalities it seemed very little else going for it. I have read many books with academies just like this who do it better but it picked up a bit at the end of the book plotwise so I will read the next book out of curiosity.
I don’t understand why so many rh books are set in high school. This whole series could had everyone slightly more mature and older. Instead, the dialogue reads very juvenile. The jumps between chapters also was odd and erratic and the book ended super quickly and randomly. Despite this, I’ll try the second book and hope it’s better.
This book is a good start to a story, and abruptly ends without an actual ending or even a good cliffhanger. I feel like I was gipped after reading this book. I admit that the characters are all very interesting, but as a book this story is lacking. Hopefully the continuing books in this series don't follow suit.
Fun and quick read. Paige is sent to “reform school” after her third magical infraction. There’s some really good banter, mostly on the lines of the not swearing rule. And then there’s the no sexual contact rule. So no making out behind the bleachers. Can’t wait to figure why Jory & Breckon need a third. Cuz it’s obvious it’s gonna be Mr. Griggs
This was a good read, honestly only because I liked the characters. Paige is freaking hilarious but there was no action, suspense, or anything to tell what this series is really going to be about. It was just their backstories, a little bit of heat, and mean girls.
I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters and how they came together. I can't wait to see what will happen next for them and see how things work for them.
I started reading this book but it felt like I had missed some of the book as it didn't feel like the beginning, the story is okay. Like the characters, probably won't read the next.
Great taste of the story. Characters are interesting. I don't really know if there's a bigger underlying plot, but I'm interested enough to read the next book to find out.
Well I wasn’t following C.J Pinard and well now I am 😜
What can I say, what an absolute little treat this start to a fun, exciting and quirky series. The FMC is just so much fun, has a fab sense of humour and has the best attitude for not giving a fudge
The idea of supernatural school for delinquents is a good idea. The main female character is very funny with balls. Love the story and cant wait to find out what happens next.
I would have given this 4 stars but it didn't feel like a complete book. I'm okay with cliff hangers, but usually something gets resolved.. idk. I will read book 2 though
Meh. Nothing really happens and based on the dialog/ actions of the characters you'd never guys these were adults in not sure what the point of the story was but it was ok
I’m not sure what I expected when I read this but I was expecting THAT 😂. It was very witty, spicy, and entertaining. Few typos that need to be addressed though
I didn't think I'd enjoy reading this but I actually found myself laughing out loud. From what I've read its not a serious book but it managed to pull me in and kept me engaged.
An easy 4 stars purely for the entertainment value.
A rather simplistic book. I almost quit in chapter 1 because I found the writing strange. But it either got better or I adjusted. Not much happens but I was still interested.
