Is Mac the next A-list movie star? Probably not. But he is an extra in a movie being filmed near a mysterious California mountain famed for the legends surrounding it. He even gets a promotion above "extra" now he's lumbering around head-butting people as Bigfoot.
Ivy is mildly indignant that she's a movie-extra reject. Too short. Although her job as assistant to the ranch woman providing lunches for cast and crew does not, at least, require a costume both hairy and itchy.
Production of "The Tunnel of Doom" does not go smoothly. A flash-bang explosion. A dead bus. A poisoned salad. Someone is definitely trying to stop the movie from ever being completed.
And when the sabotage escalates to a murderous level, Ivy and Mac are right in the middle of it.
Mac and Ivy are still traveling in their motor home and looking for the perfect place to settle while Mac writes stories as a freelance author for various magazines. They come across an unusual situation as they arrive in Mt. Shasta City, a movie is being made about the legends Mac has been assigned to write about. Even better, they are looking for locals to cast as extras and Mac gets selected. But one thing after another plagues the movie, and before long Mac and Ivy are trying to solve a series of escalating mysteries related to the movie shoot.
This is a continuing series that stemmed from a previous series just about Ivy. Each book by this author is a treat to read-a humorous look at life as Ivy and Mac go about solving unexpected and unusual crimes. Ivy and Mac have a strong faith, and often there are aside moments that are what I call "chats" with God. But while it's not a preachy book, faith and Bible passages enhance these great characters as they deal with the nitty gritty that life hands them.
I love that Ivy realizes she is "invisible" as a LOL (Little Old Lady) and applaud how she uses that to her advantage. I also like how she is independent and investigates when Mac is busy, as well as working to help others as much as possible. What an inspiration to readers, and a refreshing reminder that advanced age does not preclude living life to it's fullest!
The mysteries are involved and twist around the movie in a tangle that leaves the reader racing to find out exactly who did what. So many details and suspicions, red herrings, and laughs. Ivy and Mac are the friends we are all waiting to meet, and as such a realistic book couple, you feel like they are real and already your friends. Entertaining, exciting, and excellent!
This is the fifth book in the Mac ‘n’ Ivy series. They’re still driving around in their motor home looking for a possible place to set down roots. This time it’s Mt. Shasta where there is an old legend about the people who lived beneath it. A movie is being made about it and Mac becomes an extra. Poor Ivy isn’t tall enough. But things start happening that threaten to shut the movie down and the female star is murdered. So Ivy and Mac go into investigative mode because as usual, LOL Ivy’s ‘mutant curiosity gene’ kicks into high gear. I really enjoy reading about Ivy and Mac and their sleuthing. Age makes you invisible, or at least Ivy thinks so. The stories are well written with a great twist at the end. I always have a few chuckles as I followed the story. Since this place didn’t meet their requirements, Mac turns his travel article in to his editor and they start thinking abut where to next. I’m looking forward to reading about more of their adventures as they motor to the next place. Well done!
Another Typical Winner by author Lorena McCourtney
I love this series of Mac n' Ivy books. I have read about all of Lorena's books and I look forward to each one that come out on Amazon. This particular book has a wonderful humor to it that sent me into giggles several times. I think it comes from Lorena's sage outlook on events in life that you just have to laugh at. You don't get to be LOL's without a good sense of humor at life. If you like this series of books be sure to get her Ivy series too. "Invisible" is absolutely marvelous. I guarantee you will love both of these series.
I LOVE this series, it’s one of my all-time favorites and this was probably one of my favorites of the favorite. Mac and Ivy go to California and end up getting involved with a low budget movie that quickly falls apart. Mac and Ivy, of course, have front row seats for the show. I love the characters, I loved the setting, the independent movie scene was really interesting, and there were not only suspects galore, but there was also no shortage of people who were ready to play sleuth and figure out whodunnit. Really fun book!
Like meeting up with old and familiar friends, Mac 'n' Ivy are off on their newest adventure and bringing us along, managing to have fun and see the best in most situations. I love their optimism, and continually get caught up with their enthusiasm and joy of life. Along the way, the crazy antics and ideas of the characters around them pull us all in for the ride! And it is a great trip!
This was a great book, but it seemed to drag to the plot of the story. It has, of course the beauty of Lorena's hand in her writing. I did enjoy the story and would given it a 5 star rating, but it really had some drag out spots in it. There were so many different directions to here and there. I got dizzy. Like I said it was a great book and I would suggest that you read it and enjoy it as you would enjoy another one of Lorena's books. Enjoy!
I enjoyed this latest Lorena McCourtney story of the adventures of Ivy and Mac. The story, like all the books in her Ivy “saga,” is filled with mystery, wit, endearing characters, and faith. As a LOL (little old lady) myself, it’s refreshing to read about the travel and adventures of a spunky and curious fellow gray-hair and her husband. I recommend this and all the books in the series.
"Dive into the delightful world of 'The Tunnel of Doom,' where humor and mystery intertwine seamlessly. Mac and Ivy, an endearing duo, find themselves entangled in the chaos of movie-making near a mystical California mountain. As sabotage turns sinister, their journey takes a thrilling turn. With a perfect mix of charm, suspense, and unexpected twists, this book is a must-read for those craving an adventure that keeps them guessing."
I love Mac n' Ivy because they are a great older couple who are always willing to help others. That help, includes solving crimes. While they mention Bible verses at times, they don't preach, they live their faith. When other characters swear, it is referred to, but not spelled out. I appreciate that. Ivy has her own series that started before she met Mac: The Ivy Malone Mysteries.
I love reading about Mac ‘n’ Ivy’s adventures. Having been in the area of Mt. Shasta made this even more intriguing. Exploring a dark lava tube sounds scary. The additional characters in the story added to the adventure. And there was an unexpected twist in solving the mystery of “who done it”.
I feel like Ivy is an old friend ever since I discovered her in the Ivy Malone series. This is another great book in the series. I had no idea who the bad guy was until the end when it was revealed and everything fell into place. You’ll love what Ivy and Mac get up to this time!
Mac and Ivy end up in the town of Mt. Shasta. Mac becomes an extra in a movie being shot. Ivy helps out providing meals for the actors. The tunnel that is the setting of the movie has much mystery about it. The lead actress turns up murdered and many join Mac and Ivy in their sleuthing.
I’ve been reading about Ivy and her hilarious adventures for years. Then she met and married Mac and became murder magnets with a humorous story to tell. Highly recommend. Clean read.
I really enjoy the Mac and Ivy series. I’ve been reading about Ivy for a long time now. Just like Ivy, I’m also a LOL. Don’t have any of the exciting adventures Ivy has, but I sure enjoy reading about hers. I can’t wait for the next Episode!! Keep writing Lorena, and I’ll keep reading!!
The Tunnel of Doom is a wonderfully entertaining cozy murder mystery, with our delightful 'little-old-people' sleuths Mac 'n' Ivy, set in Mt. Shasta City. Lorena McCourtney's writing is laugh-out-loud funny!
It kept me going back to the book to see who was the murderer. I just love this series (The Mac n Ivy Mysteries) Can't wait for the next one. Ivy always seems to find trouble. Lol
Another great mystery! Still find the switching of point of view between Ivy and Mac not ideal for an ease of reading but otherwise I really do love these mysteries.
