Dead Serious Case #2: Mrs Delores Abernathy

Rate this book
In the business of unfinished business...

It’s been over six months since a freak accident left pathologist Tristan Everett able to see ghosts, something he has yet to confess to his boyfriend. Instead, he now has a new calling, one he’s not entirely happy about… help the dead resolve their unfinished business so they can pass into the light, sounds simple right?

Wrong…

When the spirit of a sweet old lady suffering from Alzheimers follows him home he has no idea how to help her. When he finds out she’s been murdered by arsenic poisoning, a curiously outdated murder weapon, he once again finds himself tangled up in a murder investigation.

For Inspector Danny Hayes of New Scotland Yard, life couldn’t be better. After moving to London and meeting Tristan he’s ready to move their relationship to the next level, but something weird is going on with Tristan, he’s acting very strangely and with a killer on the loose he’s not taking any chances. He’s determined to discover whatever it is Tristan’s hiding from him.

Surrounded by a bunch of potentially murderous old ladies and aided by his sidekick, deceased drag queen and spirit guide in training, Dusty, Tristan must unravel the mystery of Mrs Delores Abernathy’s unfinished business and find the courage to share his deepest secret with the man he loves.

Not quite as extraordinary as book 1, but still highly entertaining and addictive.

I know I know - series about couples who get together too quickly and are happy without any major drama are boring, right?

Well, not this one. This is so… quirky. Funny. With endearing characters and quite a bit of very English stereotypes, I couldn’t help but love it.

Tristan and Danny have been boyfriends for 6 months now, and love each other deeply. Relationship wise, there’s not much happening, I’ll give you that. What made it in-put-downable was the mystery plot: Delores Abernathy, one of the old ladies in Tristan’s father’s nursing home, dies. Only it’s not a natural death - she’s been poisoned. With arsenic. And while trying to find the murderer, Dusty accidentally ends up in Tristan (yes, our beloved drag queen back as Tristan’s ghostly mentor/bff 😍). Which brings a whole new set of problems they have to solve 😅

I loved so much about it, most of all - again - the extremely well developed side characters. I loved the moments between Chan and Dusty, and Danny and Sam (what an interesting character - can’t wait to see more of him!). The way Dusty loves Bruce, even if she won’t admit it. The ghostly auntie who lives in the haunted book shop. Ofc, the “shadow”.

And honestly- if you didn’t choke up at least a bit at the end when Delores “solves” the thing that kept her from crossing, I can’t be friends with you 😬

Also: the slowly revealed “big” story arch - so interesting! Can’t wait to see where it goes.

Again, I’d recommend the audio - this series is one of Joel Leslie’s good ones!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series but I absolutely LOVED this one!

Tris and Danny are now completely in love with each other, things are going along nicely, with just little hiccups along the way as they deal with whether or not they're rushing into things having said the I love yous and spending nearly all their available time together.

The wonderful Dusty, of Drag Queen murder fame in book one, is now back as Tris' spirit guide and she's as outrageously fabulous as ever and on hand to help when something a little bit odd happens at the care home where Martin, Tris' father, is being looked after.

With another murder to investigate, another sweet little old lady ghost hanging round with unfinished business, and the occasional accidental spiritual displacement to deal with, this book romps along at a cracking pace without ever feeling like the story is being rushed.

There were so many moments I was chuckling like a hyena to myself, others I got a wee bit teary as the narrative pulls on all the heart strings at times, and ultimately I was cheering my head off as the gang all comes together to try and work out what's gone on.

Even the ginormous! (not quite cliff hanger-y) type big reveal at the end could spoil my enjoyment of this book.

It's not really a cliffhanger as such, this story is all wrapped up by the end, but it's a big massive lead in to what's going to go down in Book Three and that cannot come soon enough.

Loved it. Also intrigued by two new characters we're introduced to in this book who I won't reveal.

PS: This would make an utterly fabulous TV show!

DNF for now. I will want to read it in the future, I loved the first book but for now, sorry , 🤷🏻‍♀️ that’s what happens when in a series , the main couple is blissfully happy by the end of the first book -it doesn’t have enough left to keep me invested in the series (I’m a romance reader first and foremost after all)

OMG it was so much fun being back with Tristan and Dusty! Oh and Danny too LOL. Most of the book was spent in Tristan's POV, but a few chapters are not. It makes sense being in Tristan's head as he's the one who can see the ghosts, which lands him his next big case to solve. Ironically, Danny is in charge of solving her murder while Tristan must help the dearly departed Delores solve her unfinished business. The big problem here is, like Dusty was after her murder, Delores is stuck in a death spiral frozen how she was when she died...and she died as a woman in her 90s suffering from Alheimers. You can see how she wouldn't exactly be much help.

There are so many laughs in this one and I sorely needed it as I had just finished an angst ridden read before this book. Dusty is her usual self. Tristan is an accident prone precious thing and Danny is still sweet and understanding of it all. I spent MUCH of the book dying for Tristan to finally ease my anxiety and tell Danny the truth about it all as he seemed like a serious sort and I didn't know how he was going to take Tristans confession. I'm also insanely curious about a few new side characters who pop up in this one - I'm looking at you Mr. PI. We also get the heads up on what's in store for us next and I'm excited and nervous for what's to come. Can't wait!!

I am having a hard time putting my thoughts together on this one, as I honestly loved it.

Slight spoilers ahead

I still love Jacob Marley. I wish that there was more of him.

“You’re a dick,” I tell him with great conviction.

“Get a cat, they said,” I mutter under my breath. “It’ll be great company.” I snort as I reach into another cupboard and pull out several large saucepans and pots.

“Next time I’m getting a dog,” I tell Jacob Marley, who is flat out ignoring me. “It may drool all over everything and chew my shoes, but at least it will love me unconditionally, unlike you, you spiteful little Jezebel.”

In this one we still have Tristan, the pathologist who can see ghosts, and Danny, the Scotland Yard detective who seems to always include Tristan in his cases. They are still so sweetly and sickly in love with each other, though its only been 6 months.

“Your feet are cold,” he mumbles.

“You know those are some finely honed observational skills. Have you ever thought of a career in law enforcement?”

“Want me to read you your rights?” He chuckles as he rolls his hips against me, and I let out a burst of laughter. “Oh my god, that was terrible.”

His tongue slides back in to tangle with mine as his fist tightens, and I moan obscenely into his mouth. A shiver rolls down my spine, and I can feel my balls tightening. “Hold that thought.” He pecks a quick kiss to my lips and jumps out of bed, leaving me splayed out like a starfish with my rock-hard dick poking out of my PJs. “What?” I blink through a haze of lust as Danny shoots me a grin and disappears into the bathroom.

So we learned in the first book that Tristan's dad has a degenerative brain disease and lives in a home to be cared for. One day while visiting, Tristan sees something floating by and runs after it. He discovers that one of the residents died and that it was murder. Imagine the DUN DUN here.

So Dusty is still around, as she is Tristan's spirit guide and there was a twist that I was not expecting that happened after Tristan was drugged by one of the little ole ladies.

During all this, Danny thinks that Tris is acting strange and its because of the whole asking to move in together thing, not because of all the ghosts hanging around. But Tris decides to come clean and asks Dusty to help him.

“Come on .” She tugs me and we start walking back down the path. “I’m going to help you get your man…” She stops suddenly her eyes widening. “Oh my god, this is totally like the moment in Grease when Sandy asks Frenchie to help her. Oh! Does this mean we get to do a makeover?”

“I’m not dressing like a slut to get my man.” I roll my eyes as we start walking again.

“And his name’s Danny too! Oh this is too perfect, are you sure you don’t want a makeover?”

Dusty is just as glam in this one as she was in the last book.

Things of course get resolved and Tris does

Now, I need to know more about Sam and the cute witch. I dont care if they get together or what, but I need their stories.

Also the very hot

What an explosive sequel!
I loved Tristan and Danny's (and Dusty's!) latest adventure even more than their first one.

This second novel is as cute as I expected, and as addictive as I hoped, but it's also definitely creepier and even a tad scary: it was the perfect Halloween read.

It had everything I usually love in a mystery, and then some: amateur sleuths getting into trouble, to the annoyance of their hunky, protective detective boyfriends (IS THERE A BETTER TROPE THAN THAT? I don't think so), murderous grannies and a completely compelling murder investigation, pesky ghosts and mysterious dark-robed figures, and a love story that's both exceedingly sweet and very, very steamy. Plus, the lead(s) are completely endearing.

Tristan as usual, was beyond lovable: I adored him. I loved him and Danny together to bits here: I loved seeing them both express their insecurities and vulnerabilities to the other, and now, after that ending, I'm even more curious to see what will happen to them, and how their dynamic will evolve and change. I'm usually not a big fan of relationship angst, but I really want to see their relationship tested in the next book.
And Dusty? GAH, I love her so much. She literally deserves all the world, and the fact that she's dead is such an injustice. She's such a fun character, snarky and hilarious, but also lovable, and protective and kind and charismatic.
I also adored the whole cast of side characters, from Chan to Maddie and Evangeline.

I cannot wait to read the third book, especially after that epilogue. Bring it on, Vawn Cassidy.

Thank you GRR for the ARC. I received it in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars. Lovely, light whodunit series with a mystery in each book that resolves as well as a bigger plot going through the multi-book series, medium drama, mild angst. Delightful cast of characters, friends and drag queens with a paranormal element that’s entertaining and heartwarming. Lots of feels as we follow this couple through a couple years of courtship and relationship.

Book one is a wonderful start and it’s clear that we’re at the beginning of a series. We meet the main characters, setting up the paranormal element while weaving a nicely paced murder mystery into a budding romance. The bedroom scene in book one is epically entertaining as Tristan’s penchant for chaos rises to an all-time high. Very cute couple, extremely likable.

I ADORE that we leave book one with a handful of huge secrets yet to be revealed and I have an immense desire to keep reading to see how everything unfolds. Series must be read in order, none of the books would stand alone very well and each book ends with something new happening as a way to introduce the next book, a bit cliffy.

A fair portion of the books are dedicated to the plot and mystery, with the romantic page count significant but secondary. The romance ranges from funny chaotic moments, sexy full bedroom scenes, playful lusty fade to black and delightful moments of connection and adoration. Full scope of feels and very satisfying writing and story development. Tristan’s adoration of Danny and his internal dialogue when he appreciates him and their life are so lovely to read.

As a testament to this series’ charm, I read all 5 books back to back, which is rare for me as I usually get bored after book 2/3. They are binge-reading certified, congruency is perfect and there is very little recapping. There are quite a few characters by the end, so it is advisable to read the installments close together so you don’t forget who is who for the final mystery.

BOOK 5/6: new characters pop onto the scene in the last main book and appear again in the Halloween novella. They are from another series, THE GUARDIAN SERIES by pseudonym WENDY SAUNDERS. You don’t really need to know these god/goddesses/guardians/protectors to enjoy the Dead Serious/Crawshanks series, just FYI since GR does not reference the books from Wendy Saunders as being connected to the books from Vaughn Cassidy.

“Oh, I don’t know, your dignity?” “That went out the window with you holding my penis and peeing for me,” I answer.”

Oh wow, what a fucking treat this book was. A great sequel to Tristan, Danny, Dusty adventure. Now we are dealing with little old ladies who are completely off their rockers. It was a delight to get Dusty POVs during this book and even more insight into Tristan’s powers and purpose during this book. Also even more of the great romance between both Danny and Tristan and Dusty and Bruce. I’m excited to get more Bruce in the next installment. Once again my singular rain cell did not solve the mystery but hey I’m just along for the ever funny ride. But what I love about this series is that even though it’s over the top with comedy and sexy time, it still makes me feel. There are so many sweet and touching moments throughout the story that make the book even better than it just being a comedy mystery book with ghosts. The ending for Mrs Abernathy and the moments between Chan and Dusty had me tearing up, so I love that about this serious. All the relationships and the emotional connections between people and ghosts and their stories is just chefs kiss. Plus throw in some more paranormal weird mystery about a portal and a reaper and I was hooked. Can’t wait to continue this series!

Audio review: 3.5 stars… Spoilers ahead

I stand by my review of the first book that this is not a romance. Like… this was even less so than the first.

That being said I did still enjoy the mystery and the ghosties.

I did NOT like the secret keeping through the whole book and some of the shenanigans happening when Dusty possessed Tristan’s body. It was just… drawn out and silly.

These are silly fun without much meat behind it and I end up more invested in the ghosts HEA than the living MC’s, but I suppose that means the author is doing something right. 😂

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

This is the second book in Vawn Cassidy’s Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed series and it continues following the relationship between Danny and Tristan. The mystery stands alone just fine, so you could probably start here, but you will miss details on some of the personal side of things. Things are going so well for the men and both are happier than they imagined they could be. In fact, both are giving thought to possibly moving in together. For Danny, he has to work up the nerve to ask. For Tristan, he has the added complication of the fact that Danny still doesn’t know he can see ghosts and he has no idea how to tell him, which leads Danny to worry Tristan is pulling away. Fortunately, things do get resolved on that front here and the men end up in a great place. This story really showcases the bond between Danny and Tristan and how much they care for each other. There are some really sweet and tender moments, particularly with Danny supporting Tristan in his father’s care. I like these guys together a lot and think the relationship between them is progressing well.

I am utterly OBSESSED with this series. Danny is in my list of top favourite characters of all time. Such a beautiful sweetheart. Anyway, before we turn this into a Danny obsessed ramble.. onto my review!!!

So in this book, Tristan and Danny’s story continues! What I love about this series is so far there has been no relationship drama, no unnecessary breakups, no miscommunication.. these are two pure souls who love each other completely. They’re an utter joy to read.

A murder in Tristan’s father’s nursing home leads them on a journey on discovering the crazy world of the elderly (which as an elderly care nurse amused me greatly). From pie baking contests, to poisoning and a cast of hilarious and bizarre elderly women Danny, Tristan and everyone’s favourite drag queen Dusty have their work cut out solving this murder and helping Mrs Abernathy with her unfinished business tethering her to the mortal plane.

When an event occurs (no spoilers 😁) that threaten’s Tristan’s consciousness, the question of whether he should tell Danny about his gift communicating with the dead becomes more of a when rather than an if. Does he tell him? How does he react? What happens? Who’s the murderer? Read it and find out!

Vawn has done an utterly INCREDIBLE job again. I’m obsessed with this series. If you haven’t started it, you’re missing out.

This was even better than the first book. There were times I laughed so hard I couldn't breath. You really can see how much Tris & Danny love each other and Tris not telling Danny his secret is eating him up. I am so happy that was resolved prior to the ending of the book. So while visiting Tris' father at the assistance home, one of the residents passes away & her ghost attaches herself to Tris. We have the investigation of who offed the lovable Mrs. Abernathy. Along the way we have attempted killing, accidental spiritual displacement, a bunch of crazy old ladies who take their tarts very seriously & bringing closure to a love that has lasted a life time. We also find out that Bruce really is needed & that Tris is being watched by a mystery entity. Not really sure what his end game really is. The book ends setting up the next book with a small cliff hanger. Our boys are at an amazing place.

I received a copy of this book from Gay romance reviews, and this is my honest opinion

Oh my gosh, I have laughed so hard! I adored the first book so I could not wait to get my hands on this and read it. If I had been drinking, I would have snorted liquid out of my nose. These characters are so perfect and really keep you going through the story. You have both the spirits and the living to deal with. I have no idea how Tristan pulls it off. Dusty is still a delightful drag queen. Tristan and Danny are still very much in love, but Tristan is keeping secrets and it is starting to affect their relationship. It makes it hard for the duo to solve the mystery of Mrs Abernathy, but there is very little that can get in their way. I absolutely loved it! Vawn Cassidy has just the right amount of slapstick, danger and romance. This series is just perfect for fans of paranormal mysteries with a touch of romantic comedy thrown in.

ARC received from the author for an honest review.

Tristan still sees dead people and with the help of his trusty side kick Dusty he helps them finish the business keeping them tethered to earth. One night when he and Danny are visiting his father at the nursing home he see a reaper. When he follows the reaper he finds an elderly woman, who was a friend of his father's, has passed away. What at first glance looks like a simple death by natural causes becomes a murder investigation. Tristan is saddled with trying to help an Alzheimer's patient finish her business. Not easy when the person only says two words and is constantly wondering off. Mishaps abound and Tristan and Dusty find themselves in several precarious situations. With Tristan acting weird, Danny is wondering if he's pushing too hard and pushing Tristan away. Is Tristan ready to tell Danny his secrets? Chan is back to help Tristan and Dusty and Danny gets a surprise from an old friend. A new cast of characters are around for some intense and funny AF situations. Will Tristan stay alive long enough to tell Danny everything or will his meet the reaper for one last time?

This is a very well written story. It has a well thought out plot and is executed just as well. I was laughing my A$$ off in several places and smiling fondly in many others. Tristan and Danny still have that great chemistry as does Tristan and Dusty. I can't wait to read book three. Vawn has something special going and I'm here for it.

DEAD SERIOUS CASE #2 continues Danny and Tristan's story this time with a new case and a new ghost. I enjoyed being back with these two and seeing them in love and navigating life as a new couple. But things aren't perfect -- Tristan still hasn't told Danny that he can see ghosts. I liked this one but I do feel like the romance took a backseat to the mystery. Danny and Tristan spend a lot of time apart and I missed seeing them together more. Outside of the romance I'm intrigued by what's going on with Tristan's abilities and his sudden ability to see reapers.

Content Warning: on page parent with dementia; on page funeral and grief of a side character; brief reference to a side character being badly beaten after being outed

Favorite Quotes:

“I believe some things are just meant to be, Tristan.” He pulls me close. “I don’t know that I’ve ever believed in fate, but I think you and I were meant to find each other because nothing else in my life has ever felt this right. I don’t think we have to question it, we only need to feel it.”

“You’re it for me,” I whisper. “I hope that doesn’t freak you out, but you are literally the air that I breathe, Tristan Everett. I can’t imagine my life without you in it.”

I loved the first book and thank god the second book was as good, maybe even better than the first one.
I loved Tristan and Danny and loved how their relationship developed.
Danny is the perfect for Tristan and I love how caring he is and how much he adores Tristans Dad.

the mystery was very well done and it took me some time to at least get a feeling for who the murderer could be.

I loved how Dusty was integrated in the story and that we get a bit more information on the world around the ghosts. Bruce and Evangelina are interesting side characters, who prove to be a great addition and a well of information

what was even more interesting for me to see was, that I read a book not too long ago, which wanted to be like this one and definitely did not match the quality of this series.
so chapeau to the author to a well-written story with lovely characters and hopefully we will get the third book in this series soon.

I am devouring these books, I love Tristan and how he is navigating this whole seeing-ghosts thing, and I am loving each ghost we meet through him. There wasn't a lot about the progress of the relationship, if not some episodes related to the most important steps they are going to take. Still, I'm looking forward at to how things will change now, especially with that cliff-hanger we have at the end of the book!

I liked this one even more than the first book! My main gripe with the first book was that I didn't think the dual pov was needed (even though it's my preferred format), but here it totally had a purpose and I loved seeing into Danny AND Dusty's head. The mystery was good, I had no idea where it was going, and the relationship is realistic and lovely. The side characters were so well done and fun and I'd love to see some of them pop up in future books (which we can pretty much guarantee with some of the reveals!) It ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger, so I'm dying for the next book!

Vawn Cassidy has the ability to sneak serious topics in the funniest, most light hearted, romantic and funny stories and the second book of this series, Dead Serious #case 2, didn't disappoint.
There are moment where you think about the gravity of certain illness and the weight the patients and their families bear and there are moments where you're laughing so hard you can barely keep reading, this story has it all: it's romantic, heartbreaking, sweet and deadly funny.
A book I'll sure read again.

This series is literally the greatest thing ever!
I mean, I loved the first book, and this sequel was just as loveable, exciting, and immersive to the point I could barely put it down.

If you've read and loved Dead Serious Case #1 than you will also adore Tristan, Dusty and Danny in Case #2 which brings yet another murder case that needs solving, another spirit that needs to finish their unfinished business and our favourite characters getting into questionable situations. Delores Abernathy's case is mysterious, heartbreaking, and funny at the same time.

Where to begin describing this gripping experience of a story?
The crime and detective parts of the book are exciting and keep you on your toes. I haven't guessed who the culprit was until the very end, and the investigation was worthy of any works of Agatha Christie. The assortment of characters and strange circumstances provided an atmosphere where the readers can lose themselves in curiosity and anticipation to finally figure out who did it! I loved it that the victims whose cases we're solving together with Tristan and Danny are a little quirky every time, and the whole investigation is more unique by that. In this case, we have a little old lady, Delores, as a victim, and the journey to solving her untimely death leads through bingo nights and a circle of octogenarian ladies. A little bit of fun seeped into the story by these characters.

Of course, the paranormal investigation part of the story was equally important and interesting, with a heartwrenching ending, and Tristan and Dusty getting into trouble together. We get to see more into the everyday life of someone who sees the dead, and we get to lead a spirit to their rightful place. I loved it!

The romance part was as sweet and as loveable as always. Danny and Tristan are living their blissful love and going forward with their relationship. They fit together so perfectly. Of course, we have some relationship angst to see if Danny can accept Tirstan's quite supernatural circumstances, but it was smoothly integrated into the story.

Our favourite characters are here from the first book. Tristan being his quirky, nerdy self, Dusty bringing the dramatics as a true drag queen, Danny being this sweet but so so smart detective and all the other side characters showing up to give advice and steer our heroes in the right direction. We also have some new faces who bring so much potential to the story going forward.

I am so happy with this book and this series. It is excitement, fun, awkwardness, love, friendship, supernatural, and great storytelling kneaded into one package! Absolutely recommending to everyone!

Wow! This series is getting better and better.

The whole story is a finely honed machine juggling mystery, crime, love, laughter and companionship. I love that solving the mystery of the persons death is not what tethers the spirit to the world but personal reasons that are somehow also intertwined in the persons history. So you don't have only one mystery on hand but two. Danny is lovely as always and I feels as if I slowly but steadily get a better grasp of him with every book. As he only sporadically gets to tell the story from his POV we can only rely on what we witness through Tristan's eyes. Dolores was a bast, I loved her wandering around without saying much the entirety of the book but her actions were just perfect sometimes as well as how she and Dusty played off one another. I remember that one time, where poor Tristan was caught in a compromising position with Danny in his living room 😄

What i also loved were the moments Danny and Tristan as well as Danny alone spend time with Tristan's father. It was so sweet and caring and also a little heart wrenching. I really felt for Tristan and understood his reasoning when he told Danny about feeling guilty but also being so sad concerning his father. That he sometimes wondered if it would have been better for his father if he didn't have to live like he does now, that his father hurt him so much which he would be appalled to know had he the warewithal while also being so thankful and happy that he was still around. The end of the book makes me fear some things to come if you payed attention to the last time Danny comforted Tristan's dad.

The book also introduced two new and fascinating characters who are going to be part of the next book for sure. Maybe even present an opportunity for a spinn-off? Maybe even one that is more intertwined than we can imagine? I would hope so, I so want to see one special PI find his HEA after everything he went trough.

"I don't think"- I lean across the table and look - "ZYWQBCCKDDGHYYG is actually a word."
"It's a Welsh word, note the lack of vowels." He counts up the score and scribbles it in his police notebook, which is never far from his breast pocket, even on his day off. "So that's 62 on a triple word score, which makes 186, which brings our grand total to 489.!
"I think you two are cheating." My mouth twitches.
Danny turns to my dad and grins. "He's such a sore loser."
My heart throbs in my chest as I watch my dad lean his head on Danny's shoulder. Danny wraps his arm around him without even thinking about it as he gathers up the Scrabble tiles with his other hand.

Great supernatural romance.

What a great instalment to the series, even better than book one. Lots of lovely drama, as well as all the usual funny scenarios and witty banter that come part and parcel with Tristan and Dusty when they get together. I found myself laughing out loud as I was reading. The dialogue is fantastic, and the plot flows so well. And Danny, be still my beating heart, is such a romantic soul, what a love ❤️ There's a couple of new characters introduced in this one, can't wait for the next book.

fantastic series just got better, outstanding story

Rating: 4.75🌈

Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed just got better with Case 2: Mrs. Delores Abernathy. I’m impressed with the manner in which Cassidy is crafting the ghosts “stuck” between worlds. It’s got a very different, humane feeling to it than other takes.

As it was with Dusty, it becomes just as poignant and as much a emotional journey here with Delores Abernathy. Delores is a sweet elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s , who’s poisoned in the same full care home as Tristan’s father. The ghosts who die before their allotted time are caught in a loop, forced to stay as they died until Tristan can help them move through whatever is keeping them here.

In this case, Delores the ghost still has Alzheimer’s, which makes it difficult to figure out how to help her, let alone who murdered her. Delores, a periphery gentle character becomes a strong narrative presence by emotional means of her illness and by association with Tristan’s father, who’s state in the same facility is ever worsening.

Both people make a huge impact on the readers as themselves and by the loving nature of the relationships a they have made with their families.
Both heartbreaking and heartfelt.

Of course Dusty is back, a lively, fabulous ghostly guide, when she chosen to be. But part of this storyline belongs to her and her great bestie and fellow drag Queen Chan. Cassidy intertwines their own pain/loss with the current case in a way that’s beautiful, sad, and wryly funny.

Tristan’s and Inspector Danny Hayes’ relationship, a wonderful aspect of this series, keeps moving forward. Typical of this couple, nothing about it is smooth. Gawky, awkward, painful, sexy, and in this actual case , full of ghosts and a secret that Tristan needs to divulge.

The story is almost a 5. There’s a cliffhanger. Not really one I mind actually. It’s more a hint of the next mystery to come. But it’s still a tiny one that introduces new major characters.

I can’t wait!

If you love a great mystery, paranormal characters and romance, here a fabulous story and series for you. Read them in the order they are written for characters and storylines development.
