Finding her fated mates had been something Cassidy has dreamed about for as long as she can remember. She never thought someone might try to steal that sacred gift from her and shackle her to a mate who only wanted Cassidy for the power she held.
Terrified and alone, Cass follows her mother’s pleas and runs. She makes her way cross-country to the Ridgewood pack and the rumors of wolves who are as kind as they are fierce.
Instead she is greeted with death threats and dark, haunting eyes. But with time she is welcomed into the pack, finding refuge in their forest haven and in their arms. One connection sparks, then two, and finally a third.
But as fate has brought Cassidy’s mates to protect her, the one who has always wanted her for his own is about to strike. And none of them may make it out this time…
This novella was soo good! Technically a prequel novella to the Shifting Fate series by this author but can definitely be read on its own too. This is a paranormal, wolf shifter, why choose romance and it’s a freebie novella you can grab directly from the author’s website!
I recently binged the Shifting Fate series and loved it so much so I wanted to read this novella as well, which is following a different set of characters we saw in the series! I love a wolf shifter romance and this was so good! Cassidy is on the run from her wolf pack and shows up in Washington looking for sanctuary, she’s taking in to the wolf pack there and her bonds click into place! In this world, the more powerful your gift, the more mates you need to balance that gift. Jack, Cooper and Ridge all brought something new to the relationship and I adored them all together! Super short read and easy to fly through in one sitting, but it def was a fully developed story. Found family, pack politics, dangers, threats, visions, romance, and power!
It was interesting seeing how the 17-year-old FMC Cassidy found her harem - I read this prequel after I had already read the first book Spark of Fate. I didn't realize that her paranormal power was ; I'm not sure if I had missed that in her introduction or if it just never came up.
The story was the fastest of fast burn - while one member had some original mistrust, that quickly disappeared and "reset" once he found out they were fated mates. The villain was also defeated in mere pages in a very unsatisfactory manner, especially with the convenient paranormal powers of Cassidy's mates.
This story had more of a NA feel to it compared to the YA feel in the main series - the harem didn't seem to have any real parental oversight and quickly built and moved into a house together , although in hindsight, that seems rather difficult for teenagers that hadn't even graduated high school yet... There were a couple of smut scenes, especially in the epilogue, but I have to say that it really isn't the author's strong point.
The length of the novella certainly made it difficult for the author to dive too deep into everything, but the relationship was especially superficial IMO and everyone's paranormal abilities were a bit too convenient for plot purposes. It was an okay read, but I don't think it had any necessary background that couldn't be skipped for the main series. ------ Ratings - abandoned series: #0.5 Fated Visions (this book): ★★★☆☆ #1 Spark of Fate: ★★★☆☆ #2 Mark of Stars: ★☆☆☆☆ / DNF
FMC: Cassidy MMC(s): Jack, Cooper, Ridge Tropes: why choose, shifters, fated mates, found family Spice Rating: 2 Series: Yes | Sorta (Novella Related to The Shifting Fate Series) Cliffhanger: Not Really - Depends on when you read this novella. I read this novella after reading the rest of the series. If you read it before though, it does give you a slight glimpse at the next story featuring a character in this book.
I recently finished The Shifting Fate series and saw the link to this novella at the end. Since Cassidy and the guys are mentioned in the main series, I enjoyed being able to read a bit more about her past and meeting her mates. Since it is a novella, the story moved really quickly. Honestly, I would have loved for Cassidy to have her own book or series. However, it was great prequel novella. I read it after because I didn't realize this novella was available prior to starting the series. You can read it before or after the main series.
If you don’t like novellas, no worries. You don’t have to read this one to understand the main series.
Enjoyed it more than I expected. Read that the pacing of this was rushed--and yeah, it is. BUT after reading Book 3, I got what I came for: Ridge and Cassidy's drama! Which this book delivered. I loved every second of it, especially the reveal.
Loved it. 🥰 I've read 4 series by Tessa now, I always love the 1st book but tend to check out by the 3rd, this was the first short story by her I've read and it was fabulous. Only down side is I think it would have also made a great solo book. I hope if not already there are more short stories to come or solo books 💙🙏🤞
This novella shows us the beginnings of Cass and her bond, who was a side character featured in the shifting fates trilogy. I wouldn't say its necessary and you could skip it - it's quite short at just over 70 pages but a sweet story that could be read either before or after the main series. Its also a freebie download from the authors site!
This was such an adorable and captivating novella. Nothing felt too fast paced, and the information wasn’t overwhelming given the length of the story. A great read for a little book-snack 😉
It also gave a great appetiser for the 3-book series that follows one of the characters introduced 🥰
I downloaded this book for free and finished it off quick, since it’s so short. Insta love and not much more else for the storyline. Hopefully if I read any of her other books they will have a little more content.
I absolutely throughly enjoyed Cassidy's love story! Seeing her mother show the greatest form of love there is. I was cackling at everyone's immediate reaction to the mate bond and loved seeing it all!
This was an enjoyable but short read. Cassidy and her guys were good characters. Too bad this book wasn't longer, I would've preferred their story to be a full length novel. I look forward to Holden's HEA.
Great little prequel novella. I love that we got to learn Cassidy, Jack, Ridge and Cooper’s story. Tessa Hale packed a lot of excitement into this short little story and still made it all flow so easily. Loved it.
This is a Novella and it is a great little tiny one. It’s rushed becase it is supposed to be short but these characters are great I’d love to see more of her. Read content warnings on authors website!
Perfect little novella. Read this in between the 2nd and 3rd shifting fate books and I loved seeing more of characters that are mentioned in the main series but don’t get much page time. Short, sweet, to the point, ton of fun.
Pretty good prequel to the series. A bit shorter and more fast paced than I would have preferred, hoping Spark of Fate will give me more character references and world building.
Yes, I'm starting another Tessa Hale series after just finishing one. Leave me alone. The vibes I'm getting from her books are too immaculate to stop now.
A cute, quick novella to help launch a series. Obviously with this being shorter, we don’t get a ton of character or world development, but the story was simple enough to not need it.
