BESTSELLING author Martha Sweeney presents her first paranormal romance/fantasy series (Sleigh Riders) that features bikers, swearing, spiked hot chocolate, magic, innuendos and so much more.
The bitter fault of one caused the magic from within to wither and die.
A feud has ensued for many generations, leaving most from both the Frost Clan and the Klaus Clan unaware of its origin. What happens when Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus find themselves drawn to each other? Will their worlds collide, destroying everything in their wake? Or, do they have the power to bridge the ancient chasm and restore balance to the world?
This is NOT your average holiday story and NOT for the faint of heart.
After the age of thirty, Martha realized that her life as a terran was not what it was cracked up to be. Knowing that there was more to life, she embarked on a journey that has tested her resolve, heart, and soul many times over. It continues to do so at this very moment.
She’s astounded that anyone takes any author bio seriously. Why would anything that’s written here be believed when authors are known to invent stuff out of thin air? Martha likes to thank the ether and her higher-self for the enlightenment and odd sense of wonderment about life, the universe, and what exactly she was thinking when she wrote that one obscure story that no one has yet to read, but her husband has heard about.
The oddity of society, particularly the book community has flabbergasted her, making her curious about how a em-dash or ellipses can make people think that AI had any hand in aiding an author to write. She could be sharing complete truths, complete lies, or a mixture in this very bio as you continue to read this. Why are you still reading this, she asks in your ear as if she’s sitting right next to you, right now? Does anyone really care if she’s telling the truth, I mean, come on, she’s an author for God sake? Books are written to pull you from reality with fantasy, though there is much of reality in books to some extent. Where was she going with this thought? I don’t know, don’t remember, so let us continue. What were we discussing? Oh, right, Martha Sweeney’s author bio.
She would like to sum up with this single thought: believe what you want about anything, even her. Beliefs are just thoughts you keep thinking. Whether you think you’re wrong or right, you’re right either way, so why should she care what’s written in her bio because we both know you just want a story that makes you feel. That’s the purpose of books or any form of entertainment. It’s to feel something. She hopes your emotions are kicked in the ass one way or another. If you like a character, she’s content. If you hate a character, she’s content. All in all, she made you feel.
If you’re still reading this, Martha is quite impressed and is giving you an astral projected hug and hopes to meet you in person one day, or not. According to Martha, we’ve already meet if you understand entanglement.
If you are literally thinking, or saying out loud WTF?, Martha wants you to know that very same thought has entered her mind at least twenty times while dictating to me what to write. Whom am I, you ask, that’s not important. My roll is simply to write Martha’s author bio and let you know that she’s a multi-genre author, so there’s a chance you might be interested and like at least one of her currently published books. Enjoy, or not, that’s up to you.

I want to put it out there that I rarely DNF books. I also feel like I'm an unpopular opinion here with not liking it, but the things that I read just bothered me way too much to continue. If reading starts to feel like a chore, I stop, and that's what happened here. It became frustrating to try and understand the plot, the characters and their dynamics, and to just care in general about what was going on and who it was going on to.
Quite a few bits of it read as "tell, not show" to me and that's not really my favorite style to read. Also, this featured THE FASTEST case of insta-love/lust I have ever seen in my years on this planet. I normally don't care if there is insta-love (although I know it's a huge turn off for some) as long as I care about the characters and am interested in their story; I was the least interested in these people. Also, the dialogue between the h and H (who I can only assume because I didn't even learn his name by the time I DNF'd) was not for me. Her and "the stranger" develop this banter within 2 seconds of meeting and then (no bullshit), after 4 minutes total of interaction, is sticking his fingers in her cleavage.
"I do enjoy the view of the mighty, rocky peaks." w h a t.
The plot also felt like it confused itself, if that makes sense? I had to reread sentences a few times to try and understand what was happening because I felt it contradicted what I read, like, 2 paragraphs before. And some commentary mixed in with the plot made me do a lot of this face.
I didn't like Noelle's family, they were just so overbearing and rude so quick and weirdly read like jealous boyfriends instead of cousins, and Noelle herself wasn't all that likable or interesting to me. I like my insta-lust characters to bang in the first 2 minutes of meeting only if they have a believable chemistry and storyline, which I found lacking here.
I don't know, this one just really wasn't for me, which is sad because I was excited to read a spicy holiday novel with a fantasy twist.
I went into this read so excited, because the fun twist on Clans, and fated mates, with the holiday seasons mixed in.
The general overall story of enemies to lovers, he falls first, fated mates was outstanding. The chemistry and banter between Noelle and Nikolaus was on point expect for one HUGE red flag/ turn off for me. They basically were all innuendos non flipping stop. It really took away from the story, to the point that I wanted to stop reading but was invested in the overall story and needed to see where it went. Nikolaus has some really great depth of lines, then a silly 16 yr innuendo would be tossed in for no reason.
The love scene are closed door, which is fine but for the amount of innuendos they shouldn't have been. It was almost childish writing with the overwhelming amount of what just become dumb innuendos. If you have this much "dirty talk" (and it wasn't dirty talk in my option) then you need to commit to taking the characters to that point. After a while it just hurt my head and I would skip chunks of dialogue because of it.
Honestly, if the mind numbing innuendoes were not every two seconds within the story, this would have been a 4.5 read for me. The idea of the story is wonderful but the dialogue kills it.
I think this is one for the older reader (not very young YA), although much of what is very humorously described is couched in inventive innuendo. What a brilliant entertaining start to what I’m sure is going to be a wonderful paranormal romance series. A good read for all. I was pulled in by the blurb, and I loved the book. As promised - biker clans, magic, swearing, and lots of hot chocolate (some with whisky) and a great story. Inventive, imaginative and fun from start to finish. Thank you to WWN Publishing group and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
My first impression of this title and story line concept was interest, but some skepticism. I’m not personally a huge fan of motorcycles or biker clans (motorcycles are fun, but not an obsession). Additionally, holiday stories are generally not my preference either…too cliche. However, Frozen by Lies by Martha Sweeney caught me completely by surprise. That translated into me devouring the book rapidly and chomping at the bit for the second book. This is unusual for me…unless I really enjoy a story. Martha did a masterful job of keeping the tale rolling along, mixing the unusual combinations of bikers, holidays, hot chocolate, whiskey, and sexual tension…without spoiling the illusion and fantasy world. The characters had depth and presence. The banter was very believable and often fun. The story was deep in layers upon layers of hidden meaning and potential. Admittedly, I’m already a fan of Martha Sweeney’s work. However, as objectively as I can be, this was certainly one of her best works by far…next to another favorite by her called, “Moss Manor.” I long to see this series in film form someday, and can’t wait for the rest of the series.
The setting of this world gave me winter feels and I liked the nods to Christmas throughout the story, especially in the names: Noelle Frost & Nikolaus Klaus I was really excited about star-crossed lovers in 2 rival biker clans set in a magical world, but the 3rd person narration did not flow well for me. I struggled to keep my attention in certain parts even though I wanted to know how Noelle & Nikolaus’ story continues or what happened to Noelle’s mum.
For me the most refreshing parts where discovering more about Hope & Josiah’s blossoming love, since the bits in Frore and about the Blades were quite heavy. Towards the end, when Noelle spends more time with Nikolaus and his clan, reading got better and I was intrigued to find out more about their gifts. The open end begs for answers in a second back, since I want to know what grandma Sapphria has planned and if Noelle will find her dad.
Would recommend to people who love - Star-crossed lovers - Biker clans - Magical ancestors - 3rd person narrative

I got an ARC via NetGalley...and Wow! What a unique, interesting, and fun story. I didn't know what to expect and was beyond thrilled with how this first book of the series turned out. It has an interesting twist on the two known names with winter/Christmas - Klaus and Frost. This is a MUST read for anyone who is into biker romance, enemies-to-lovers, paranormal/supernatural romance, with an urban fantasy feel and so much more that I don't dare spoil it for you. I can't wait to read the second book!
This story takes place at Christmas time but makes a mix in its plot where it incorporates clans, motorcycle gangs, a lot of swearing, magic, and mate fate.
This mixture seemed very unusual to me, but interesting. Although, I admit that it was a bit confusing for me, at least at first, to understand the mixture of all these elements and the mechanics that the author wanted to propose. Also, at certain moments I felt lost because of some jumps in time or things that happened but we didn't know about it until the characters talked about it.
As for the narration, it is in the third person that allows us to know most things that happen with all the characters, both the protagonists, those of the Frost clan, the Klaus clan, etc. as circumstances arise.
Noelle and Nikolaus meet one night at the Blades' bar, with chocolate and whiskey in hand. Although the clan disagrees with that relationship, between jokes and spicy innuendoes for Christmas, the attraction between them will increase and they will soon discover that they are mate fates.
The romance between them, if I'm honest, hasn't delighted me. Even though I have laughed on several occasions and at first it seemed cute, the more I read it became clear to me that they did not have chemistry nor did they transmit much to me.
Noelle Frost is a girl with a bit of a joking and smiling personality that I liked. She has to go through a time of many discoveries and stress, especially when her family does not make things so difficult for them.
Frost Clan, I hate them a lot, some are idiots and treat Noelle like a girl who doesn't know what she's doing when she's 26 years old, the persecution is incredible. The only one who is saved is Grandma Sapphria, who is a real charm and is the greatest support of her granddaughter.
The matter of magic and gifts, there is still a lot to develop around it, I guess in the following books since there are still many questions and things that the characters have to discover and learn.
In general, I think the idea of the story is original, it had a good start, although I think it could have had better development and a better romance. However, it's only the first book, so let's hope that the following books will have better execution.
I will admit I was a bit skeptical about this read. Reading the themes of romance, paranormal, fantasy mixed in with winter fun, bikers and feuds, something was telling me to just give this book a try and I’m so glad I did! Noelle and Nikolaus can’t deny their attraction although there has been a long lasting feud amongst their families. Their chemistry draws them closer to one another although Noelle has her doubts. The family feuding reminds me a bit of the Capulets and Montages of Romeo and Juliet. They are cautious with the other members when around one another and can be quite confrontational when things seem out of place. Her cousins and grandfathers are the ones opposed to her growing closer to Nikolaus but the female figures in her life seem to be motivating her towards someone who brings out a brighter side of herself. She is torn between her emotions, family and believing the genuinity of true love. One thing I must share with other readers to give this a try is amazingly, funny one liners and the great romantic chemistry amongst the characters. Definitely worth giving this book a read!
Enemies to lovers your thing? Do you like paranormal romance? Maybe you like biker tropes? We have Noelle Frost as our leading lady and Nikolaus Klaus as our leading man. I would be lying if I said Nikolaus didn’t immediately make me go “OH HELLO KLAUS” (ya know vampire diaries…no oh well never mind). Their banters and bickers were super amusing and made me want to keep going. This is the first in a series and reading while it was snowing outside….cherry on top.
When it first started this book it had me intrigued but it did take me a little while to get fully into the story completely but once I did I enjoyed it. Just remember just because I took my time it won't mean you will too. We are all different after all. Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus are great characters with fun back and forth banter who I really enjoyed. When they first met and her family was so over bearing I wanted to yell at them myself Lol. They are basically bikers from rival clans with obvious attraction to each other and her family absolutely hate that!! Eventually though their attraction becomes so much more. With so many secrets all around them its inevitable that their path is not a smooth one. I don't want to say too much about the actual storyline as I know I would just give way too much away. You need to read this for yourself. I will definitely be returning for more!!
An enjoyable and engaging paranormal romantic fantasy adventure. As promised it was a mix of bikers, feuding clans, swearing, mates and magic, spiked hot chocolate and plenty of innuendos. The feud between the Frost Clan and the Klaus Clan has been going on for so many generations that most of them don’t know the origins. All anyone knows is that, ‘the bitter fault of one caused the magic from within to wither and die”. Things become complicated when Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus find themselves drawn to each other. However, this could destroy both their worlds, unless the couple have the power to restore balance to the world by bridging the ancient chasm. The storyline obviously has echoes of Romeo and Juliet, but with spiked hot chocolate! The descriptive narrative brings the characters and the setting magically to life which made me feel immersed in this fantasy story.
Where do I start? Um, with the banter between the characters, with the way the words flowed across the pages so easily, or with how this book is gonna you feel. Like home. I have had books where they made me laugh until my sides ached. This book had me laughing till the end. I didn't stop, or take breaks, I just couldn't put it down.
It all started with a man coming to a small town where few people lived. His name was Nikolaus. This is Where he will meet Noelle Frost
This is how the story will begin.
A feud that stands between The Sleighers and The Blades has grown and festered for years with no one knowing the real cause or do they
The flames that ignite between Nikolaus and Noelle could be the one thing that could bring these two MC groups together again.
Or will it tear everyone apart Could there be a real underlying truth about an unforeseen power that grips that someone has and doesn't know about...Yet..
There is so much to share about the first book of this series. It pulled me in. I was trapped in this story and didn't wanna come out. These characters brought this book to life and made you feel like a part of what was going on and what was to come.
Martha Sweeney brought forth a new meaning of Christmas fun, banter, paranormal, MC, Alpha males, and our Grandma Sapphria. Nobody messes with her...
I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much. I am going to read the next one and the one after that.
Thanks, Martha Sweeney for writing this book and giving Frozen by Lies a new twist..
Frozen by lies written by Martha Sweeney is the first of the sleigh riders series. A spicy holiday romance, with innuendos to give you the giggles. You join Noelle and Nikolaus on a journey to find why the clans they belong to have been feuding for generation. There's no doubt their connection, but is that enough to end a feud that has been going on so long, its been forgotten why it happened in the first place? I can't wait to dig into the rest of the series.
Frozen by Lies is a paranormal romance/ fantasy book about a family that is hiding secrets that are literally ripping their small mountain community apart (and also impacting the communities around them).
The main characters are Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus. I loved the magical explanation for the powers that the Frost and Klaus family command.
I loved how creative the author was with weaving in myths around nature and magic. I mean, who doesn’t love a winter story about a Frost and Klaus? LOVE IT.
The portion of the book that focused on Noelle learning how to control her power (gifts) was a tad long. However, I think it’s an important part of the plot. Especially when we learn that the women of the Frost clan are the ones that actually have magical gifts and it seems like the men of the clan have been lying to the female elders and rest of the community.
I enjoyed the banter between Noelle (Elle) and Nikolaus (Nik). They are bikers too - so how could we hate that? We love that! Their romance is spicy but not smutty - and unappreciated that it wasn’t a smutty novel. We had plenty of spice and love without explicit love scenes.
When things really start heating up and getting intense the story starts to shift and we need to wait for book 2… darn it! I’ll certainly be reading the next one. I give this a solid 4 stars.
The title of the story becomes evidently clear at the end of the book. Oh. My. Gosh.
I received this eARC from NetGalley and truly enjoyed this story!

I received an eARC of this book for my honest opinion
This was an interesting paranormal romance/fantasy series. I liked parts of the plot a lot and other parts I was a little lost. I gave this book an overall 4 out of 5 because I do understand that the first book of a series should have some guidelines of the plot but really, it’s to introduce the characters and world building. Those are what I look for when reading a new series, and I thought the introduction of characters was good, and the world building, I did get a little confused but then once I went back to reread a few parts I was able to get a picture of it in my head.
I thought the characters were somewhat relatable; I think for me Hope is relatable more so than Noelle, but I really do love that feisty attitude of hers.I enjoyed the interesting twist on the two known names that have to do with winter/Christmas, Klaus and Frost, so cute.
This is a must read if you like enemies to lovers, paranormal romance, a little mystery and found family. I don’t want to go into too much about this book because I am worried that I might spoil a few things, so instead if you really like my review and you enjoy reading books with those aspects in them, you should pick this book up and read it.
I want to Thank NetGalley and WWN Publishing Group for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I really enjoyed this paranormal romance. It was a different take on the typical holiday story with two biker clans – the Frost Clan and the Klaus Clan – being at odds with one another. I wanted the read this now rather than wait months for winter to return as I absolutely love retellings with a twist, so I was hooked just reading the blurb.
I loved the fact the clans were bikers; it was unique to a winter story and added another element I love. I enjoyed the humour that the author brought in, but I can see how some parts may not be to everyone’s taste. The descriptive language used truly created vivid magical scenery which I loved stepping into to follow Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus in their complicated and ‘doomed’ relationship.
I enjoyed most characters and the interactions between the two clans, but unsurprisingly Noelle and Nikolaus had the best interactions. They bounced off each other very well and their banter reminds me of how me and my loved ones can act around each other.
Overall, the writing flowed well, and the story was unique and imaginative. I was gripped throughout and am so happy I found this gem of a book. Can’t wait for the next fun instalment in the series!
I received an eARC from NetGalley for this novel. I was expecting a romance, which this was. However, for many reasons, which I will detail below, I disliked how this book was constructed. I am giving it 2 stars for one reason: I want to know what in the hell is actually going on.
This novel was so poorly written and constructed that I can’t just chock it up to being an advanced copy. It’s coming out in approximately one month. There were spelling errors and such that one would find in an eARC. I am not complaining of that, at all. The dialogue was stilted and unnatural. The characters sometimes spoke like they were horny teenagers, other times like they were trying to be witty 20-somethings and then like weird, semi-prophetic, formal language. It was brutal to try and read. It also affected character development, of which there was none. These characters are barely formed to begin with and to have their dialogue style change all the time meant I never really got to know anyone.
At first, Noelle, our heroine, was kind of a tough, witty biker chick. Then she was a hold-it-all-in introvert. Then she was all soft and passive. Her family bosses her around at 26 years old and her solution (from beginning to end) is to sneak out. But, she doesn’t like it and so she hates when anyone else, like Nicklaus, tries to be domineering with her; except sometimes that’s okay too.
I don’t understand the weird protectiveness her male family members exhibit. I don’t understand the why and it was never explained. I don’t understand how her Grandma allows it while also secretly helping Noelle sneak away. I also don’t under why Noelle allows it because from what I read her family has absolutely no hold over her and she could easily leave. None of this was ever explained or touched upon except to say the men have secrets.
The novel was also full of sexual innuendos that were rarely funny. They also felt stilted and came out of nowhere. How many times are you going to use “come” as a double entendre? It was weird and awkward and felt like the characters were reading a script.
There were time jumps that I didn’t know had happened until another character was like, “where have you been?” And I was like, we were just with you on the last page? Only to find out it’s been two weeks. It really messed with the story.
Now we have to discuss the instalove/mate thing. First a disclaimer: instalove and the mate thing are a repeating thing in books I read. I don’t ah e a problem with the trope. I just want it to make sense for the plot and the characters. Also, much like no one should die in chapter 1, no one should meet and fall in love in chapter 1. Noelle and Nicklaus do not have any chemistry. There I said it. I didn’t feel it and I didn’t see it. Also, Nik is an overgrown frat boy. I didn’t like him. Actually I don’t think I liked any of the characters.
The instant Nik meets Noelle there’s some weird sniffing thing and he knows she’s his mate. She’s from an opposing clan with whom he has what amounts to a blood feud (also never explained) that no one remembers the details of and you won’t get any details, and he doesn’t even try to stay away from her. She gives odd no signals verbally while batting her eyes and using those weird Christmas sexual innuendos and sort of saying yes. I rolled my eyes a lot. And if you think you’re getting any erotica, you’re not. It’s all fades to black. I was glad of that fact because he effing kisses her to “calm her down”.
Bottom line, I was not invested in these characters. They were poorly written. The dialogue was strange. The innuendos were annoying and the men were assholes. Plus, it ended on a soft cliffhanger.
The only thing getting stars is that I’m a soft touch and I must know what the hell is going on with the gifts and the magic and her dead mom. There’s a secret and I must uncover it!
I will not be recommending this novel. However, because it’s a quick read, I may be tempted to read the rest of the trilogy ad hope for answers.
Frozen By Lies is the first book in the Sleigh Riders series by Martha Sweeney. I was so excited to see that Ms. Sweeney had released this new book, as I have loved her other works- and to find that this is a fantasy was just the icing on the cake for me. Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus take us on a bit of a mad-cap romp- with plenty of eye twinkles, spiked hot chocolate, and cheeky innuendos. With bad blood between their families, their feuding clans are an added complication to romance. But fate has plans for them, and draws them together with a higher agenda at stake. And so their adventure begin It is a fun Urban fantasy- with feuding clans, magic, paranormal elements, a small-town setting, snow, bikers, funny banter/quips/antics, chemistry, fated-mates, family feuds, clean/closed door romance, and insta-love, providing a holiday romance with a fun difference. I enjoyed the story, for the most-part and look forward to seeing where we go from here with the next instalment. The dialogue frustrated me at times with some very ott spoofy innuendos that were overdone (in my opinion). If the innuendos were toned down a few notches, the story would have been much more enjoyable, but as it is they left me frustrated and definitely disrupted the flow of the story for me as I stopped to roll my eyes every few moments. I really wanted to LOVE this story so much more than I did. I had high hopes for this book, but it just didn’t deliver like I had hoped. Maybe the issues I had with it will be sorted by the next instalment- I’m curious to find out. Happy Reading…
Ugh I hate leaving negative reviews, but also I struggled with this one. I hate leaving them because I appreciate how much time and work goes into creating a book and developing a story, but as it was gifted in return for an honest review this is my take on it.
Let's start with the good - absolutely love the idea of a West Side Story/Romeo and Juliet vibe of Two families feuding with each other and two people finding love in a hopeless place. I did just write that.
But it's not that... the insta love is weird and the male cousins of our female main character are grossly over invested in her life. And it's repeative... Like okay I f**King get it. They don't want her dating anyone let alone this hot magical guy from a rival gang that no one remembers why there is a rivalry.... And then the same scenes just repeatively happen... This is the bad. I couldn't read it, I had to skim it.
It has so much potential and if there is a proper edit where a few scenes are condensed and the male chauvinistic BS was toned down I would reread this. Also really liked the natural magical part of the story, where there is more to Noelle then she even knew. If she were a more likeable character, I would love this for her.
I didn't even mention Nicklaus - our love interest because honestly until just now I forgot about him.

*update just found out this is a trilogy... Maybe the rest of the books are better and some of the above are addressed? I won't ever know, but incase anyone else was interested.

Frozen By Lies is the first book in a new series by Martha Sweeney and focuses on soul mates who come from two clans who have been at war with each other for generations. I read this ARC on Netgalley and it will be released officially on December 6th. It is a modern fantasy romance with fairy tale aspects that will remind you of everything from Romeo and Juliet to Frozen.
I really wanted to like this book. It has an interesting plot, likable main characters, and enough magical moments to draw you in. However, I found myself skimming the final twenty percent of the book before refocusing to read the final two chapters. At a certain point the main female character, Noelle, starts to get whiney and uses the same dirty joke one too many times. Her conversations with the other main character, Nikolaus, got repetitive and I simply could not continue to read the same bad innuendo again.
This book is written in a third person omniscient point of view and often switches from one character to the next with no real transition. It’s jarring at times and I would have preferred focusing on the perspective of only one character. The author also relies mostly on dialogue with little description or set up of scenes.
Again, I really wanted to like this book. There was so much potential in the plot but there are simply too many glaring issues with the writing and it simply was not executed in a way that held my attention. In my opinion this one is a 3 out of 5 stars.
So, what's not to love here: You've got--star-crossed lovers, feuding clans and feuding bikers (The Sleighers and The Blades) , and all-wise matriarchs in an alternate universe type of fantasy between the Frosts and the Klaus clans.
I was really looking forward to a modern day treatment between these characters, the blurb really hooked me. Sadly, I was disappointed with this title. The problem I had with this story was the narrator's voice. There's a strange mix of present tense that didn't work for me. It felt stilted and choppy and often jarred me out of the story.
I did find that the story does brighten up when Nikolaus Klaus is on page but not for any particular reason I can identify. I wasn't enamored of any of the other characters. Noelle seemed strong one minute, confused and weak the next. The clans are just downright odd, which is okay, but they were not endearing oddities. The men's protectiveness comes across as controlling and difficult to like.
Overall, I thought this was a great concept for a holiday-type romance, but unfortunately, the execution here was not to this reader's taste. The voice did not lend itself to "show, don't tell" and it ended up being a flat note pretty much throughout. A just "okay" story for this reader.
I purposefully made myself go into reading Frozen by Lies blind, because I wanted to be surprised! And boy was I!
Frozen by Lies was a very magical, adventurous, and steamily adorable book!!
Frozen by Lies starts out slow and simple, the story of a young woman and a stranger unknowingly destined to meet. Then it builds and builds into stolen kisses and budding romance. From there, the magic of the story starts to grow until it encompasses everything and everyone, until the curse of generational hate, confusion, and hidden-truths starts to bend towards breaking to reveal a truth that will change everything everyone thought they knew.
This book had me on the edge of my seat, with the emotional ups and downs, the surprise curveballs, me laughing and getting angry, and me also crying. I am a person who loves multiple POVs in a book, so I deeply appreciate getting to read from multiple views!!
That just means that Frozen by Lies is a book that is a perfect read!! So, I highly recommend giving Frozen by Lies a read, and then be ready for the next book in the Sleigh Riders series, Inflamed by Love!!
This book really wasn't it. I went into this book really loving the first few chapters it seemed cute and super cheesy but in a good like this is what I signed up for kind of way.....it quickly...snowballed... I forced myself to read the whole thing and it got so repetitive and confusing. We get it YOU MAKE THE BEST HOT CHOCOLATE, whiskey, One Heart One Soul, but we just met, ect ect ect the same points were made so many times it got so annoying. The characters weren't very likeable. Also like ever single interaction had to have some winter/holiday theme innuendo battle which again was fun at first but got really annoying. It was hard to picture the characters as mid twenties they all seemed very childish. The plot was hard to follow the character would switch to one solution and then the next chapter being doing the opposite. Weird time jumps. The family dynamics of all the groups were odd like are we a bike gang, a clan, a magical pack, it all read very odd. I think the basic concept of this was really different and interesting but the execution wasn't quite right.
Thank you, NetGalley, for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is the first book in the Sleigh Riders series. I really enjoyed this fantasy romance. The author does an amazing job of bringing the story to life. The mixture of fantasy and secrets and danger with something as sweet as Christmas really makes this story unique.
This story follows the Frost and the Klaus clans. For generations there has been a battle between the 2 families. Neither one wanting to budge and inch. But what happens when a boy and a girl from opposite families realise they are fated mates. That's what happens to Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus. Their romance is powerful and such a great read as it unfolds but is it strong enough to mend the rift between the two families? Or make the war between them even worse? Add to this the secrets and lies that have been told through generations of the Frost clan that makes the females of the clan not realise the power they hold and this story really starts to heat up as the lies and secrets slowly start to be reveled. This is one book that promises Christmas feelings, snow, hot chocolate and romance with the added spice of bikers, hidden magic and a romance that could heal or destroy everything around them.
The book has a lot of potential. I did love the world into which it was build and would like to see more of it. Unfortunately the romance part and some of the writing was not my cup of tea.
At the beginning of the book, first or second chapter, someone puts a dent in a car, and then erases it and I was like: “OMG! This is twilight”. And then a girl sees it and asks the boy and he calls her crazy (and she fucking continues to flirt with him) “OMG! This IS twilight and we’ll get a toxic relationship all over again.” I tried to shake this feeling out and continued to read the book. It was 2022 after all, no one would write a fucked up relationship and pretend it was a fairy tale this days, right? It took me a long time to finish this book because of that.
Another down point for me was the overuse of expressions, like “snickers” (143 times!!!) to the point of being annoying.
The last third of the book I found more interesting, and got me curious to where the story could be headed.
I was so intrigued by the concept of this book and the blurb. However the novel did not live up to expectations. I don’t want to be too negative, but there were some things that were just too glaring to make this enjoyable. Noelle is supposed to be 26 - I think this really pushes the limit as to “New Adult” content. She is written much more like an 18 year old. Noelle is written to be “giggling” what feels like almost every page - once I noticed the giggling, I couldn’t stop noticing it. There is very little build up between Noelle and Nikolaus, just instant attraction and lust. I know it’s supposed to be fated but I wish there was some more, especially at the beginning. There are lots of silly innuendos, which don’t bother me in general but it was just over the top. I think the bones of this story are really interesting, it just needed some editing and depth. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up. I never hesitate to pick up one of her books. I enjoy her writing skills and her attention to details that make her stories realistic. This book is no different. This is a well developed paranormal/fantasy story that you don’t want to miss. It is full of magic and will take you on an adventure like no other. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their world from the start. They are creative, strong, supportive characters that bring the story to life. They add so much to the story which makes it easy and entertaining to read. This is a fast paced, engaging story that is hard to put down. I really enjoyed reading this book and the adventure it took me on. This is one of my favorites by this author yet. I highly recommend this book.
What a lovely story, this is my first book by this author, and I am hooked. I am in awe of how this book straddles a few genres. This is a mix of MC, small town and almost enemy to lover genres, add some magic and you almost have the basis of this book. It is written in a wintery scene and I think I will be re-reading it over the festive time, for mood and ambiance. We meet and see Noelle come into her own as she finds herself attracted to a visiting stranger, that her family do not like. The clan and villagers seem to be keeping secrets and when Noelle finds out a few things she decides to follow her intuition. Are her family keeping things from her, to keep her safe or to keep everyone under control… Nikolaus comes from a different Clan, he has his own secrets that he wants to share with Noelle, can he get past the family, clan divides, and will Noelle come into her powers.
5 Stars Frozen By Lies (Sleigh Riders Book 1) by Martha Sweeney
Frozen By Lies is the first book in the Sleigh Riders Series and is a wonderfully written Paranormal Romance that once you start reading there’s no stopping until you finish. I’ve read several books by this author and I must say this is definitely at the top of my list. I mean who doesn’t love bikers, magic, drama, and a little cursing? This was right up my alley and I absolutely loved reading this book. The characters are relatable, fully developed and fun and a perfect fit for the great storyline. Get ready to be taken on quite the fast paced adventure. I don’t want to give away anything so I highly recommend reading. As always I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
Thank you to NetGalley, WWN Publishing Group, and author, Martha Sweeney, for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review. Frozen on Lies comes out on December 6. 2022. This a fun standalone that I would recommend you preorder for some cozy, holiday fun! I was looking for some wintery season sparks and this book was perfect. The story follows Noelle and Nikolaus - who come from the opposing clans, Klaus v. Frost. The universe was fun and this was a great star-crossed lovers romp. I could not stand Noelle's family though, so that detracted me from the book from me as I think they were supposed to be 'endearing' rather than violent and manipulative.
