It's interesting that I liked Lyric's series a bit more than this one, but maybe it's because we still don't really know the characters that well. Hopefully, the second book will be better.

I was really looking forward to this book because I loved Lyric’s series but this one unfortunately really fell flat for me. It’s honestly hard to describe what went wrong because it was so many little things. Like it felt boring, but things did happen? It also felt extremely sexual (she’s literally brought to an orgasm after being SA’d and on drugs with a man she meets minutes prior) and THEN the next day by someone else she also just met in a dressing room. Yet the funny part was, no one had sex!?! 😅😂
We knew Evie had a really rough past from Lyrics book, being raised in a cult and all. I do think this one HAD potential plot wise but it felt extremely rushed and sloppy. It was all over the place. I couldn’t tell who the heck Evie was going to be with. Just Dylan? Is this RH? Is it just MFM? Or is Theo in there too? Why was Ty introduced just to disappear? It made the whole thing very confusing. Even the description of this book, you’d have no clue the whole synopsis would be dedicated to telling us she’s running from Sean…not one of the guys she ends up living with. We only get 4 chapters from the guys POV and this didn’t help matters. They were short and it was only Hudson and Dylan.
I also didn’t like how meek and submissive Evie is given her situation. After she hears Dylan say some pretty nasty things about her (that he’s using her as a pawn, she means nothing, etc) she still stays and does sexual things with him (or at least plans to). Like, self respect girls. It’s a thing. I would’ve expected more from Evie since her past was what it was. More strength and sassiness since I know she didn’t have Lyric’s skills and abilities. It was just her accepting her situation the whole book and not caring about her body and who she gave it to.
I gave it two stars for the potential and the guys. I did enjoy Hudson’s character and Theo the most. Dylan seems like every other mafia boss so that was nothing new but I’m very intrigued by the fact that Theo also grew up in the cult. It seems like he still clings to a lot of the beliefs they shared. I know more books will be coming out and I’ll probably give them a try in hopes it gets better, which I really only see happening if the plot straightens out and Evie finds some dignity and strength somewhere. We will see! Overall though I recommend Lyric’s series if you haven’t read it yet.

I absolutely need more of this book!! Not only did I read my way through the Sweetest Revenge Series, but I can't wait to read about FMC's story!! Not only is this book great from page one.. the ending just makes you wonder what comes next.

Spice: 3/5 - some non consent in the beginning and a few consensual foreplay scenes
I’m starting with what I think is important information needed to fully enjoy this book because I was a tad confused what was happening based on my own assumptions going into the book. This book does not begin with her being in the cult, we gather that information as the story progresses. Also, you really have an understanding of what is going on around 10%. I kept waiting to figure out who would help rescue her and I was not liking the options presented to begin with, but it got better!
Evie is someone who is pretty submissive. She thinks by following orders it’ll keep her safe, obviously trauma due to how she was raised in the cult. She finally starts to help herself by getting some training, but she’s still so naive to the world. I think she can be a potential BA but she has to learn to stand up for herself and not let life rule her, but I totally see her character developing. The guys are very protective of her even if they fight themselves the entire way. They want her but they don’t want to want her.

Just wow....this book takes you on a journey that I wasn't expecting. But I am so here for. Evie is very interesting, and I can't wait to read more about her. The life she has already lived is just intense. Look forward to reading more

"I thought the nightmare that was my life ended when I escaped the cult that I grew up in. I thought I'd found freedom. Life was almost idyllic for a couple of years, but this new nightmare I found myself in was even worse than before."
This book was a bit everywhere! Their was just a lot going on and I too, find myself questioning where the authors are going with this. Don't get me wrong, I could not stop turning the pages. I was both intrigued and wondered what was going to happen next.
Our FMC, Brittany, but goes by Evie has been through hell and back. We get tidbits of information regarding her childhood and how she grew up in a cult, The Children of Radiance. Apparently it sounds like she was promised to the Light Father and was to become the Light Mother and pop out a bunch of babies, willingly or not. With a gross age-difference and a misogynistic ideal, as soon as she could escape, she did.
Only the book starts off with her kidnapped. And just when Evie thought her future was looking bright, she quickly finds out nothing lasts forever. She is to be sold like cattle, but she already has a buyer and she never expected to know the man coming for her.
Running for her life; an all too normal feeling for her, she literally runs into a man that makes her weak in the knees and decides to help her. Dylan, mafia boss, decides theirs something about this girl that he wants to get to know more of. His enforcer, Hudson, is also entranced by Evie and before they all know it, feelings are growing.
Is Evie finally safe? No. Goodness, this girl just has the worst luck. Everyone wants her... but do they want her for the same reasons as she could possibly want? My heart dropped for Evie and I am eagerly awaiting the next book.
Her past comes back to haunt her in the worst way. Mixing crazy Cults, Bratva mafia and unhinged serial killers...this girl deserves a break and definitely a HEA. I am confused if Dylan and Hudson truly want her or not. They mentioned their feelings but then they also used "bargaining chip" in her reference. Theo is a wild card and with that ending, I have a feeling, he could have been the weak link to let Sean in. The ending seemed to come up way too fast and I was left wanting so much more.
This book is a can of worms I can't stop thinking about. It could go in so many difference directions that I am fully invested on the outcome. I look forward to more!

Normally I don't read many contemporaries. I prefer at least a touch of magic in my books. It doesn't have to be much. It just has to be there. However, I was very happy that I read Lyric's series in this world and when I saw that this series was gonna tell us what had happened to her roommate I got very excited. I was therefore really happy that I was offered an arc and I was even happier that I could finally dive into this book after a long and hard workday.
Evie is quite clearly not the badass heroine Lyric was. Evie grew up in a cult and although she escaped and found her own place in the world she's still carrying some traces of the cult in her. However, because of her history she's very intelligent, knows how to read situations and people and isn't afraid to ask for help because she knows that she can't handle dangerous situations herself. It makes her amazing in a different kind of way. It also makes her maybe more relatable too.
If you've read the previous series it's not hard to guess what kind of job the guys Evie runs into have. If you're new to this world the author might keep you a little longer in the dark. Eventually everything is connected to both Lyric's and Melody's series perfectly and I can't wait to get some more cameos, mentions and nods in future installments. I'm also really curious about the cult's role in this world and who's really behind it and what goal they might have.
However, this book does make clear that this series is dark. I don't have triggers so for me there were not issues in this book, but you might wanna check out the triggers if you do have some. There are quite some disturbing scenes in this book, there is some on page sexual assault and I'm fairly sure this was only the beginning. Luckily there are also some overprotective guys who DO love the heroine to give us hope that there might be a happy ending for Evie. Somewhen. Eventually.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "DARK KNIGHT"
This story will hook right from the start full of lies, angst, secrets, suspense, kidnapping, stalker, human trafficking, danger, action, cult, twists that make for a very addicting page turner.
Evie was taken by Samson said he was a friend of her roommate Lyric she was shocked to think she knew someone so vile that was different from the girl she knew he was older & told her he sold her, something about him made her freeze like a rabbit in front of a wolf.
Sampson told the man his name was Sterling that was Lyric's last name her father was Sampson's employer room 113 the man tells Sampson they get to the room he makes her get him off then leaves & comes back Sean he was in the same cult she escaped from was his boss Light Father, Sean looked her over The Children of Radiance Cult us where she grew up she hated them both we'll take her Sean tells Sampson.
Evie worried about the other students of Welhurst with a predator like Sampson free to take them, left with Sean she breaks free & runs naked from the room, ends up running into a hard body two large tough hands grab her Ty go see who's chasing her the guy says was he actually going to save her from Sean.
I definitely recommend getting this Dark Mafia Romance Dylan the Boss tells Evie to call out his name when Sean says you have my property, Hudson & Ty walk with Dylan & Evie out of the hotel this is the beginning of their story a must read you can't miss.
I'm so looking forward to the next book after that cliffhanger need ASAP to see what's hoping to happen next.

Evie's whole life has been one of being used and mistreated as she was raised in the Cult of The Children of Radiance. Evie known as Brittany in the cult finally got enough resolve to running away get her GED and enter college. Just as Evie was getting on her feet a man named Sampson kidnapped her and locks her away and finally sells her. On the day Sampson took Evie to the person who purchased her, Evie could only wonder what was in store for her. Sampson drugged her before the buyer showed up and oh dear it was Sean from the cult she dislikes him as much as the leader of the cult. Evie manages to fool Sean and make a run for it to run right into the arms of Dylan, and his body guard Hudson. She begs for help and they do help her get away but take her with them. Thus begins the cat and mouse game as some one keeps trying to get to Evie leaving subtle threats. Dylan and Hudson slowly begin to grow closer to Evie. Sean does manager to get to Evie and is leaving with her when Hudson and Theo ( another member of the team) intercedes and convinces Sean to leave Evie, and take a vehicle. As Sean gets in the vehicle he stabs Evie. We now have to wait to see what will happen because the Light Father the leader of the cult is determined to have Evie back and is sending all eligible men of the cult to find her. Will Evie manage to ever be free and live the life she wants? And Hudson he is not a man who want to cross what will he do?

4.5⭐ I enjoyed this new series from the writing of The Sweetest Revenge Series. This book is a spin off of that series but I do think you can read it without having to have read that series. Characters are mentioned and past events but their is enough explanation. Although you will understand the world and character even more so if you have. And if you enjoyed that series you will definitely enjoy this one as well. It followed Evie how was was a freshman in college a little later the typical as she escaped a cult year earlier. This book sees her being abducted at that start (trigger warnings) sold back to a member trying to bring her back and running into the arms of criminal organization because anything is better then the cult to her. It's a faster pace then I thought I liked but these writers did it well and I really enjoyed the pacing. And when it seemed it was a fast pace it would carry on and take a beat back and it worked well. It kept me glued throughout, cliffy ending and I'm really looking forward to the next one hoping the wait isn't too long. I do wish the book was longer it felt/ was pretty short for the first book in a series. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and it got some of my RH groove back as it's been a while since a new RH series not part of an ongoing series has sucked me in. And right after I was able to find another new RH that I really enjoyed as well.

Dark Knight, is the first book in the newest series by Helen Scott and Zoey Shelby. This series is a spin-off of Lyric’s story from Sweetest Revenge about her roommate Evie.It’s not necessary to have read Lyric’s story to appreciate this one, however, some of the references and characters will make more sense if you’ve read the original series.
Dark Knight starts with a dark opening, with Evie, having been kidnapped, being up for sale as an auction. Somehow her past that she escaped from comes back to haunt her. She escapes and ostensibly jumps from the frypan into the fire by running directly into the arms of organized crime.
Dark Knight was an interesting story, and I found Evie’s, past fascinating. I am curious to see how that unfolds and how it will impact her relationship with Dylan, Hudson and Theo. I’m not sure how I felt about Evie though. She had moments of surprising strength which is encouraging for the upcoming books, but there were many moments where I found her too passive. Not having been through her trauma, I can’t speak to the validity of her response, but for a novel, I was hoping for more from her. There was also a substantial amount of spice, from early on in the book.
This was an interesting book and I am intrigued to find out what’s happening next.

After finishing Lyric's story in the "Sweetest Revenge" series, I was really looking forward to read Evie's series and "Dark Knight" truly didn't disappoint. Even though both women had a different past, there are still similarities to their stories and they are both survivors in their own way. Evie has become a master in blending in, becoming what others expect of her while looking for the best way out and she uses those powers masterfully to get out of her fate being trafficked. I loved her meet-up with some of her men, the combination of a slow-build harem with a medium to fast burn and the connection with Evie's past kreeping up on her.
With "Dark Knight" being the first book in the "Sweetest Sacrifice" series, there is still a lot of storyline to develop further, but for me this book didn't end in a real cliffhanger. We do get a good feel of the dangers getting closer to Evie though, and I love the protective vibe her men have around her. I can't wait to see Theo falling for her as well; he's my favorite type of geeky mc with a dangerous edge. I'm also quite curious to see Hudson go full-on psycho in the future...
So, all in all, a great start to a new series and I can't wait to see what's coming next!

This book follows Evie, the kidnapped roommate of Lyric from the Sweetest Revenge series - although this can be read entirely independently of that one 😄
She’s put up for auction and when a blast from her past strolls on she knows she has to do anything to get away! Including possibly making a deal with the devil 😣
Without a limit on what she agreed to do Evie realises she could well be in more danger 😳
However it seems she’s turned Dylan’s world upside down and he just can’t seem to treat as he would others he considers in his debt and then there’s Hud who can’t stand women and just gravitates towards Evie! These men are possessive and protective - they’re not afraid to go after what they want 🥰
There’s also Theo lurking in the background who seemingly can’t stand Evie coming in and disrupting their natural order - but it appears there may be more than meets the eye with that one 😲😲
With a stalker on the loose and terrorising Evie at every chance can the guys do enough to keep her safe?!

Dark Knight ( Sweetest Sacrifice Book #1 ) what a phenomenal start to what I can already tell will be a unforgettable and unputdownable new series . Speechless, on the edge of my seat anticipating what would happen from one second to the next , yelling outta pure frustration one minute and then feeling like my heart was breaking the next . I don’t think I’ve read a romance that’s made me feel so many different emotions or kept me rooting so freaking hard quite the way Dark Knight has done . Evie and her guys had my heart from the very first page . Each so wonderfully written, so unique and extremely multi layered. I fell hook line and sinker in love . Organized crime , angst , non stop action, witty banter , tragedy, lies , secrets , drama , love , passion, obstacles, twists and turns, family , friendships, phenomenal world building, dark , raw and gritty moments, heartbreaking and heartfelt ones as well . The simple truth is there just aren’t any words to do this journey enough just. Go in with a completely open mind and experience all its perfection for yourself. It really one wild ride that will blow you away (and play on all your emotions)

Oh my goodness what a rollercoaster ride of a start to a new series by Helen & Zoey that you won’t want to miss. This book will definitely have you addicted from page one. It’s a definite slow burn but it in no way lessens the grip it holds. The characters they have created for us are absolutely phenomenal.
Evie aka Brittany our MFC has lived a horrific life of abuse and darkness First in a Cult where she’s meant to breed, then kidnapped and sold to a lunatic, when she finally finds a place she feels safe she’s not because she can’t escape her past that keeps trying to pull her back. Dylan is a Mafia boss and Hudson his bodyguard are who do their best to keep her safe. All the whole feelings are forming, attractions and chemistries are building.
This is definitely a story you are going to want to read for yourself. If you loved Lyric’s story and journey you’re gonna love Evie’s just as much. Fair warning it does end on one heck of a doozy cliffhanger but definitely makes the wait for next book all the more worth finding out what happens next. Highly recommend this new series!!

She was kidnapped and sold to one of the very people from the cult who have been looking for her since she is supposed to be their Light Mother. She wants nothing to do with that since she knows how abusive and corrupt the Light Father is, and she escapes again. This time she gets help from some other men who take her in. Dylan and Hudson take her to Dylans home and she promises to pay them back. Dylan is another crime boss but has discovered that he really likes Evie… and so does Hud who is his bodyguard. Theo, another man that lives there, seems to absolutely hate her for some reason. She tries to work at one of Dylans clubs, but the cult is trying to do whatever they can to steal her back.
This book is absolutely … just wow! I loved it. I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book after that ending!

Evie's story takes off with equal darkness as the story of her roommate Lyric. Being raised in a cult under different given name and escaping to attend a college, her freedom is short lived the moment she is abducted as blackmail material to harm Lyric - taken, sold in an auction, and threatened to go back to the cult she escaped from. Her desperate escape attempt does not seem to improve her situation much - no cult, but mafia... yet the intimidating guys still seem as the better option. Even with a stalker in the heart of their home, following Evie everywhere she goes..
Swiftly paced story with plenty of twists and turns, interesting composition of characters and a little familiar world building of the Ascendance Bay (for those who read the other series already). I very much enjoyed getting more insight into Evie's background and upbringing, understanding her past trauma, and watching her fight her way out of the situations without solution. I also very much enjoy the contrast between the three men she now shares the household with, and am hooked up enough to continue the series for sure.

I was so excited when I discovered this book had finally come out! I've been looking forward to Evie's story since finishing her roomie Lyric's series (Sweetest Revenge). To anyone who hasn't read that series...never fear, you don't need to have done so in order to thoroughly enjoy the start of this new adventure.
I could NOT put this down from the second I started reading! I relished finally learning more about Evie within these pages. Prepare now for a doozy of a cliffhanger- in the best way 😉. This book is packed with heat, suspense, a little intrigue...and I really like the growing bond between the two guys and Evie. I can't wait to see what happens between these guys and their Sunshine. Evie truly seems to be flourishing, but can she trust them enough to share all her secrets? Danger still seems to be lurking in the shadows. These characters are really interesting, and have many layers. Evie already survived once when she escaped the cult...here's hoping her luck can hold. The author’s trigger warning is very important. This story goes to dark and brutal places that aren’t “nice” in any way, shape, or form. But, I’m going to start from the end, because that’s the piece that’s still stuck in my brain. I’m a little desperate to discover what’s going to happen next; there’s several important revelations that get snuck in right as the book is closing that kind of change what I thought about everything that had come before. I admire Evie’s resilience and bravery. She’s caught in situations that would break lesser people, but she’s determined to survive them at any cost. I’m also very curious to find out more about her connection with her saviors/captors. There’s a lot of spice and steam there, yet I’m not entirely sure where it’s going to lead us. The one thing I know for certain is that I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

First let me just say to please read and be mindful of the authors warnings. With that said...What a thrilling read! This is book 1 in author duo Scott and Shelby's Sweet Sacrifice series, and I am hooked! This book grabs you from the very beginning - full of the dark and dangerous, action packed and loaded with twists and turns. This is Evie’s story, and I cannot wait for more! More of her and her captors and just more! I love Evie's resilience, strength and bravery throughout, and this ending has me on pins and needles for more as it has me questioning all the ways I thought this storyline may go...now, I just don't know. Wonderfully well written with amazing characters - some you love, some you love to hate. Fast paced storyline - or at least it felt that way to me as I couldn't put this book down. Well done and when will book 2 be out?!?

This story was fantastic. It has you gripping the edge of your seat with anticipation. Evie has this really sweet disposition. You really feel bad for her with all the things she is going through. It just seems she can’t catch a break. I really liked Hudson and Dylan. They really have this air about them that you really enjoy reading about. I hope that we see more of them. This story is jammed packed with darker action that just keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is a lot of information given to us in a shorter timeframe but it was beautifully written. But, we still have unanswered questions that I can’t wait to find out about. I was so disappointed when the book ended because I absolutely wanted more. The writing was excellent and Ms. Scott and Zoey Shelby always write a book that blends and flows so seamlessly. This is absolutely a must read and doesn’t disappoint.

I enjoyed this one. Love the authors works. I like how it’s mob boss vibes without coming right out and saying mob boss. Evie is taken from school to protect her roommate. She is held captive. She will be sold in an auction. What’s a girl to do? Well to try and escape of course. She runs right into the arms of a man and his friends. So what does she do you ask? Well she asks him to save her of course. So the man says he will but she’s in his debt. Evie readily agrees. Now she’s living with Dylan and Hudson. She will be working off her debt to Dylan. What’s a girl to do living with good looking men? Have some sexy time with them of course. Evie finds odd things in her room and on her mirror. She knows someone is after her. Wow! This is a wonderfully dark beginning to a new series. In the Sweetest Revenge series we learned all about Lyric and her guys. Now we start off with when Lyric's roommate, Evie was taken. This book starts off dark with Evie being kidnapped, kept, and then sold off to a high bidder. We also learn more about Evie's background and her being raised and escaping a cult.
Thankfully, fairly quickly Evie gets away before she can be taken away and literally runs in the arms of Dylan. While begging for help, something clicks and Dylan does exactly that. We get a glimpse into how much Dylan and his enforcer, Hudson start to quickly care for Evie and want to protect her. Not only do they want to protect her, but want to claim her as well, in some fairly steamy scenes. But someone is still after and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Talk about a rollercoaster ride of suspense, romance, and intrigue! After finishing Lyric’s series, I was excited when the authors announced they were doing a spin-off for Evie. This book can be read as a standalone, but doing so will probably help give a better understanding on her backstory.
Evie has a troubled past being a cult survivor and has now found herself in another harrowing situation. She must escape her captor and she does so, except her escape just leads her into another dangerous situation. A mafia crime boss named Dylan.
This was a quick read and definitely hooked my attention from the start. I do wish that Evie had been less naive — but I suppose her upbringing played a role in how she responded to the men in her life. Hudson is probably my favorite guy out of the trio, but I’m hoping we get more chapters with each guy’s POV in future installments.

This was such a great start to a new series! It took me a bit to get into the story, but once I understood what was happening, I was definitely intrigued. This book did leave me with a lot of questions and had me wondering about some of the characters but I feel like since this was the first book, a lot of things are going to be revealed as we dive into the next books. Our main female lead in this book is quite different from Lyric in the previous series that is connected to this one and the flow and pace of this story feels like it reflects that. I found myself getting abetter idea of her personality as the book continued and I feel like we are going to see so much growth from her! The writing is well done and the plot is good. I think this series is gearing up to be very entertaining. I am looking forward to learning more about these characters!

I was so excited for the announcement of this book. I was so intrigued by everything going on surrounding Evie's story. The book is a bit heavy in the first bit of it, but push past it! Once you get past it, the book will start to fly when you read it. Evie is someone who thinks that if she just listens to everything being asked or told of her, she'll be safe. It's years of trauma drilled into her head, but being raised how she was it's not so easy. She's naive to the real world, but is still determined to write her own 'story'. I really can't wait to see her character development and how it'll just shine.
Her guys, oh man I really can't with them LOL. I don't know who's my favorite just yet, but they've all got a little bit of work to do. I know that the stories will combine and just be completely epic. the cliffhanger has me on edge waiting for the next book!

Mind blown!
After reading Lyric's story I knew that Evie's would be intense, but it seems that Dark Knight is very fitting because this story has the three D's...dark, danger, and delicious.
I love seeing Evie's strengths, but still having her shy, uncertain moments as she gets through being kidnapped and somewhat saved by a mob boss. Her future is unknown, and her past has found her, determined to drag her back to the cult she escaped from. And Evie would rather die fighting.
Warning this RH story is very addictive. I started reading and didn't put it down until I got to the end. And that cliffhanger wasn't very nice, I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the next book.

Sometimes the darkest knight is what you need to find freedom. Evie(brittany) starts out kidnapped and caged just like her old life. Her kidnapper is ready to sell her like cattle. Just a heads up to ensure you read triggers before getting into this. A blast from the past comes to buy and sends Evie running into her dark knight. Dylan is a mafia boss who winds up with a naked woman right into his arms. Dylan quickly discovers along with Hudson that this woman is a need in their life. Just as Evie feels some semblance of safety, signs stop popping up to rock her foundation. Will the past let her go? Can she open up to her new men? This is an action packed book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I lost sleep on this one! I highly recommend!
