Rate this book
An ordinary kid by the name of Aikawa Kanami winds up in a fantasy world operated by RPG video game rules—but this isn’t good news. He awakes in the bowels of a gargantuan death trap called the Dungeon. Narrowly escaping thanks to his grit, cunning, and newfound arsenal of magic spells and skills, he wants nothing more than to get back home to Earth and the invalid sister who needs him. His only lead? It’s said that whoever makes it to the hundredth and final level can have any wish granted.

In his desperation, Kanami cooks up the most efficient means of clearing the Dungeon and lies his way into a partnership of expediency with an aspiring swordfighter who’s rubbish with the blade but unbelievably skilled at magic. Kanami’s cool determination, however, is soon put to the test when he and his new comrade are faced with a surprise boss fight. How far will he go in order to emerge victorious? Find out in the first volume of this beloved, long-running series!

Dungeon Dive: Aim for the Deepest Level appears to be a fairly typical isekai with a system, although it is certainly darker than most. Volume 1 is with the MC suddenly arriving in the middle of the dungeon and trying to find his way in a new world, meeting his first few companions, while mentally struggling with his new life. The first lines of the story, "Welcome back", and the nature of the Dungeon do hint at a mystery, but for now nothing is done with it.

It is mostly told from a first-person perspective, which came with the occasional short moments of panic and paranoia. The panic itself was at times expected, but at other times more like the author trying to highlight the difference between the MCs old and new life and rather over the top in a typical anime fashion. Luckily these episodes are short, since it is a character trait I tend to dislike in the main character. There is a system, but it is not very dominant, although it is a nice change of pace that the MC actually uses his ability to analyse and uses it to evaluate his own skills correctly. It is also meaningful. The characters appear to be interesting, which is important to me for these kinds of stories, especially with the kind of generic fantasy world and system.

All in all, it was a good read, different enough from the majority of the isekai to keep me hooked despite some of its minor flaws and generic premise. I am curious whether the author manages to keep things interesting and moving forward beyond conquering dungeon level after dungeon level. We will see...

Slow and boring story.

This book is just another one on this genre, but it doesn't bring anything special, anything new. Everything is slow paced, and most of the situations don't make sense. Like the MC saying, "My multiple Dungeon dives had imbued me with confidence.", when he only has gone like 3 times. The MC manages in half a day to go to a public library and learn everything about the world he is in. The MC is poorly described, and the background story of the girl companion is poor also, super OP but still a level 1. The translation is strange for this kind of books, with a lot of fancy words that doesn't match the setting, phrases like "It felt like common sense and pure lunacy were being noisily ground into a pulpy melange." The naming is also terrible, like "The life of a girl called Diablo Sith.", or "Dimension Calculash."

There is no balance between the beginner skills that Sieg (main character) and Dia have, and the levels that they delve within the Dungeon...There is no congruence between the "player"/adventurer levels and the "power" of their skills. Book one has a basic glossary but no map.
There is no balance between the level of blood, gore and violence of the Monsters in this Fantasy-Isekai (teleported to this other dungeon world book series) and the crystals or "loot" that they drop. The low level Monsters are super-deadly and yet they pay back coppers from their "soul crystals".
It doesn't make sense than in "another world" the main character uses a "second full name", different than his "real given full name" because anybody with a "display skill" will be able to determine that his "real other world name" is something else...
Although Sieg, urgently needs to return to Earth because of his little sister, I feel the fantasy novel series needs real reasons to be in the other world, to become powerful in this other world and to succeed and find a way to go back home.
The illustrations are dark and not very clear, no map, the characters are missing noses, and definition, and story as well needs editing and polish to remove plot holes and make it a better story, etc....

Another transported to another world and do some dungeoning in game level environment. Quite interesting for the first volume. It's not already powerful main character, or main character who already know the future, but more on decent background but have some cheat abilities that he still not yet revealed about.

Read this one, 2 years ago, before it was even released. (It wasn’t available to review)It wasn’t good enough to continue reading at the slow pace of release but now that it’s on catch-up on J-Novel, I shall restart. Book 2 is keeping my interest and hopefully will keep up for the next 4 that are available.
