This book encompasses the rise of Solomon, Solomon building the temple of God - and, separately - Solomon's house (proving Solomon's double-heart), the fall of Solomon, a chronology of kings that followed, and the first mention of Elijah.
I thought the temple descriptions were pretty cool. Solomon used a lot of cedar from Lebanon, and what he gave in return to the king who supplied it ended up containing Nazareth, the home of Jesus... but the king from Lebanon was not happy with his gift.
Solomon’s wisdom wasn’t qualified here. He had one bluff. And, after Solomon, the Elijah arc had repetitive prose with little substance. 1 Kings was my least favorite so far. Still overall good.
Great historical book of the Bible with the rise and "fall" of Solomon, the split kingdom, the early kings of said split kingdom [by the way- the kings of the northern kingdom "Israel" were all ungodly, while the southern kingdom "Judah" had a mixture of godly and ungodly kings], and the great prophets Elijah and Elisha. All true accounts as it is all part of the inspired canon of Scripture. In this book we see once again that the nature of man has not changed and cannot be changed as can be seen by looking around, reading a newspaper or watching a news broadcast. Man needs a new nature, which only occurs when he is born again [John 3].
