This was an amazing, awesome and exciting book! The characters come alive as the story unfolds. I learned a couple things I hadn't known. It's amazing what you can learn just by reading!!

Enjoyable story

I have recently been converted to cozy mysteries as long as they have a touch of the paranormal. Perry is a great main character who has been blindsided by her new abilities which really adds a touch of realism. Add in an unexpected villein and you have the makings of an enjoyable story.

Perrie Rose returned to run her family mortuary after the death of her parents. Her post 9/11 duties in the Air Force put her mortuary and forensic skills to the test over the years

The Rose Mortuary was started in the last century to deal with the deceased of her Romani ancestors, as well as the local native tribes.

one of the few remaining family run mortuaries in the region, it has been tough for Perrie to keep afloat, despite the additional business with the county morgue on premises

a well paying job allowing a paranormal production team to film for a few days might help balance her books, but the accompanying craziness leaves Perrie full of guilt and regret, regardless of any real grounds for the guilt

A series of dead owls, a few murders, and more powers coming to light for Perrie predate the actual festival by only days.

Can the Sheriff, Deputy Casey, Perrie and their extended friends and family connections help resolve the deaths before tourists arrive and even more chaos ensues?

intense drama and action alongside paranormal fallacies, truths and myths.

This was a pretty good read. I liked the mystery and storyline.

There were a few things that were a bit odd and didn’t make a lot of sense to me, perhaps if I’d read the other book or maybe even in later books there will be an explanation.
First of all.. Perrie grew? She was apparently visited by the Morrigan.
Then when her dog was in trouble, she flew to him. Her aunt asked what shoes she wore and Perrie said Nikes, then her aunt talked about the goddess Nike, who could fly and represents victory
I don’t know.. these were just super odd occurrences and didn’t make much sense to me. There’s no real explanation for them; they just happened and that was it. She didn’t figure out what was going on there or anything. Again, this could be something from the first book or maybe it’ll be explained later on in the series

I like where the author went with the mystery storyline (other than the odd bits I mean). I couldn’t figure out who the killer was… who I thought it was, wasn’t lol.

Overall I enjoyed reading this book. It has that cozy mystery feel that I love.

Getting in the "Spirit" . . .

A chilling tale is presented just in time for Halloween. People are curious about an old tale concerning an “Owl Woman”, a creature with the face of a barn owl and the body of a woman, who swoops down on Halloween to attack her victims. But Perrie Spock, owner of the local funeral home, finds a dead barn owl on her lawn, closely followed by a ghost hunting TV show that intends film on her property. Suddenly owl attacks are happening all over town, and two people end up dead with were bloody scratches and feathers on both bodies. Is this something supernatural? Or can Perrie find a killer lurking around? And what is the reason for the murders? Can Perrie use her visions to help Sheriff Woolaroc solve the murders in time to save the town’s big money-making festival?

Lots of strange occurrence and twists and turns throughout are just the thing for the town’s Howloween celebration! Grab your copy and help Perrie in her search!

Perfect for Halloween

It’s Halloween in Vardo or Howloween as the tourist event is called. For Perrie Spock local mortician a strange series of events starts when a three legged Dalmatian brings a dead barn owl to her property and includes snooty ghost hunters, an old Romani legend and the death of an officer she served with in the Air Force. That is just the beginning of a twist filled paranormal mystery adventure.
Lots of magical and mysterious happenings that are perfect for the season but would make for an enjoyable read year round. A little too much detail on the exact nature of some of the funeral prepping but other than that I really had fun with this story.

After reading the first book, I was hesitant to continue the series. And I should have just stopped

In the first book we saw Perrie discovering her gift of hearing the dead speak, which was amazing.
She also suddenly developed the ability to move objects.
But in book 2, she can change and grow in hight when being threatened and also run like the wind!
Just a bit too much.
We discovered that she had a relationship with a married man, and it seems she was keen to connect with him again.
And what was weird, was her checking for a pulse on old Ivan, who's body was already decomposing?
Nope, this was it for me.

Murder and the Ghost Hunter is the second book in the Psychic last responder series. It is a quirky murder mystery story with paranormal elements. The characters are a bit quirky too, and have quirky names to match. All the quirkiness aside, it has an entertaining storyline that I was able to read rather quickly. I do look forward to the next book in the series.

Many twists and turns abound in this Halloween mystery. The Owl Woman legend and the festival organized in its honor are great draws to Perrie's small town. But dead barn owls and tourists are not great for the local economy. Who is behind all the deaths? What is going on? A great mystery that kept me guessing right up til the end.

HOWLAWEEN IN VARDO

This is the second story in the last responder series and I enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed the first story. The Tools Tribe and the Romani peoples in Vardo, Oklahoma have a legend in their history of The Owl Woman and someone is bringing the legend to life and not in a good or welcome way. During the annual How law den Festival this year a film crew is in town to film about the Owl Woman and Parrie Spock and the Rose Funeral Home are dragged into it against Parties better judgement. There is a rash of barn owls being killed and two murders before the festival even starts,, can the Sheriff Reg and his department, along with the game warden, Parrie and her aunts solve the case before more people are killed, including Parrie and her loved ones!!! Read it to find out!

Is the Owl Woman Real?

Welcome back to Vardo where our favorite mortician Perrie Spock resides and tries to help Reg, the Sheriff of this fine town when her special help is needed. The Helo-ween Festival is only a short time away and like past years the legend of the Owl Woman is making its rounds among the spooky stories. This year something is not quite right, there has been a murder and the deceased has barn owl marks on his head and people are saying they saw the actual Owl Woman before the murder. Is the real Owl Woman out there or is it just people’s imagination? To find the answer to this and many other questions I recommend you get a copy of this book of your own and read it yourself to find all the answers, like I’ve been known to say , you won’t be sorry you did;)

I’m in love with mortuary Perrie. I’m not going to lie.

This is a short cozy mystery series that has just three main books, a prequel, and a Christmas short story. If you are looking for a cozy mystery series to get into and still have plenty on your TBR I recommend this.

This is a paranormal, mortuary science, small town cozy mystery. In this small town of Oklahoma there is the legends, and the ancestors. This book captures a quaint cozy Halloween vibe with a dash of paranormal thriller vibe. The best of both worlds. So don’t worry if you spook easy, you’ll love the characters and the tranquil background despite the shenanigans.

A must read!

Death for people and owls.

The Paranormal Company that came to Vardo to film the lengend of the Owl Woman got a lot more than anyone expected. The Sheriff and Perrie both worked hard to try to figure out why 2 people were dead and why a number of owls were now dead and how. With the Halloween events going on for tourists in Vardo this weekend, time 5o set things to rights were in short supply. Another book that held my interest from beginning to end. Now on to the last book in this series, and I can't even guess how things in Vardo will all be solved.

A great series! Charming characters, an adorable Dalmatian, learn things about owls, evil doers doing evil deeds, no cliffhanger endings, a little psychic magick throughout, yes she runs a mortuary….but, there are no graphic details about autopsies.
So, curl up in your comfy reading chair with a cup of tea and enjoy.

This is a well written, interesting story with lots of plot twists and turns, great characters, and the premise of finding out who killed two people and why. The answers included the illegal raising and selling of barn owls. A great festival in a fictional town, and the main character taking on the personas of powerful figures in mythology. I loved it and look forward to the next story.

Anytime, I think I guess the answer I’m wrong

These are my new favorite cozy mysteries. I’m hoping there’s more to come. I read two of them in two days. I highly suggest them. They’re very exciting if you like paranormal. I literally cannot wait to see what Perrie does next.

Good 2nd offering

Great little mystery. Took me till the very end to figure out who did it. There were times I thought I had the killer, when a new twist had me thinking of someone else! On to book 3!!!

Not one of the types of books I would read as I don't get into paranormal but it was free. Not a bad storyline and plot but did feel like the characters were not really fleshed out. It is part of a series but I won't read seriesas it is paranormal which I don't get into.
