On the Line

Rate this book
Two years ago, professional hockey player Mitch Frambough and headhunter Lexie Monroe met on a late-October night and sparks flew. They fell hard for each other, and everyone thought they were endgame.

But now they’re not together.

In fact, they don’t even live in the same state.

When Mitch was traded from the Warriors to the Los Angeles Knights, his entire life changed with one phone call. His relationship with Lexie was in ruins, and the only way he could prevent further heartbreak was to leave Michigan without a backwards glance. Except, when his life is once again upended in a split second, he finds himself back in the Mitten. Surprisingly, everyone welcomes him home with open arms. Everyone except the one person he desperately wants: Lexie.

Lexie has never believed in love, and for good reason. The one time she gave it a shot—her relationship with Mitch—it ended in disaster. Now she’s washed her hands of the whole thing: love, relationships, him. Having him clear across the country helped. But when he returns to Detroit, everyone in her life is begging her to give him another chance. The only problem is Mitch doesn’t seem interested. Plus, she’d be stupid to let him close enough to break her again.

Call it karma or the gods or fate, but something has drawn these two back together. And now it’s time for them to choose: either they put their hearts on the line again, or they walk away for good this time.

After all, how often does love get a second chance?

The cover and blurb of this book caught my attention as soon as I saw it and since I've read the first book in the series, I decided to give this a try. Mitch & Lexi had so much sexual tension and chemistry but I honestly failed to get their connection. I felt like their relationship was more on the sexual side rather than feelings tbh. Mitch was likeable and honestly he was less at fault than Lexi. Lexi was unreasonable which made her look like a bitch ngl. The only parts I liked about the book were some swoony quotes, Mitch's friend group and the setting. So, it was a 2.75 star read at it's best for me.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review

Genre: Romance
Format: Kindle eBook

Author: Amanda Chaperon
Pages: 338

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Amanda Chaperon and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNINGS: Please note this book contains an alcoholic parent, traumatic injury, using alcohol and sex as a bandaid for emotional pain, emotionally unavailable parents/issues of abandonment, strong language, and explicit sex.

My Thoughts: Generally, I am not a hockey fan, however, this book has made me a hockey fan. This is the second book in the For the Boys series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone, however, the characters are further explored in the first book. The story of Mitch and Lexi is a story of love, loss, pain, growth, and healing. I had so many emotions reading this book, from frustration, sadness, happiness, and pure joy. The story is narrated by both Mitch and Lexi, in an alternating timeline of before and now.

Lexi is flawed, strong, fiercely independent, and grew up not feeling loved. Mitch is loyal to a fault, strong, compassionate, and kind. They both have a traumatic past, in different ways. They love each other. They hate each other. They deeply desire each other. Yet, they push each other away. The characters were fleshed out more in this second book, with depth, witty banter, swoony, amazing chemistry, and creatively explored. The author’s writing style was complex, multifaceted, steamy, spicy, and just brilliant.

Chaperon is a master at writing Romance. While Chaperon’s debut book was amazing, this one was even better! This book has all the feels. Their story shattered my heart but slowing put the pieces back together. The character development was amazing. The plot was delivered effortlessly. The ending was beyond anything I could have imagined. I highly recommend picking up this book next week when it releases!

Second chance romance, sexy, full of angst, headhunter and professional hockey player.

I received and ARC of this one, and I told myself I was going to wait until closer to pub day to read it, but I could not help myself. Oh my gosh I loved this book so so much. The emotional aspect of this book was top notch, everything was literally jumping off the page. It’s way more steamier than FTB. I could feel all the emotions. I love Mirch and Lexie probably an unhealthy amount, and could relate to the struggles Lexie faces. Mitch likes to portray the image of a fun ladies man, but he is actually the sweetest and fiercely loyal and will do anything for his girl. Lexie grew up without feeling loved, so in turn doesn’t believe in it. Until Mitch. But then everything is ruined. BUT they are given a second chance, but can they finally talk to each other, without yelling) and work things out, and take another shot at their endgame love story? This is the author’s strongest book yet, and I’m DYING for book 3 already! I’ll probably gush more closer to Dec 9!

DNF at 91%, a new personal record!

Mitch is a professional ice hockey defenseman, playing for the LA Knights. Two years ago he was playing for the Michigan Warriors when he met Lexie at a club. But life hasn't always been good, before he got his big break playing hockey as a teenager, Mitch and his mother suffered a lot of abuse at the hands of his alcoholic father. Lexie is a successful head-hunter travelling the US persuading candidates to accept jobs. The daughter of two highly-successful venture capitalists, Lexie was just a possession to them, something to be trotted out in front of family-focused investors, and she has suffered with abandonment issues ever since which she copes with by never getting close to anyone who could hurt her.

Told both in the present day (which itself moves forward at least a year) and in flashbacks from two years ago, and coming closer in time, we see how Mitch and Lexie met, had a smokin' one night stand, got together again and finally fell in love, only to spectacularly implode when Mitch got traded to the Knights.

Honestly, I really tried to finish this book but when the two of them started over with their push-me-pull-me shenanigans AGAIN I had to bail. When things get tough Lexie runs away (literally and figuratively), when one of them makes an approach to mend the rift the other pushes them away, then they each spend weeks (yes weeks) angsting about what they would have done differently. And then they do it again.

When yet another of these ridiculous scenarios starts for the umpteenth time, I threw in the towel.

Also, be warned, this is the sort of novel where Lexie has two besties from college who will literally shout at her for making it all about her when her boyfriend dumps her, not thinking about how him leaving Michigan affects his friends! These friends are all deeply insightful when it comes to Lexie's problems but I bet good money they were similarly clueless when it came to their own love lives. And fancy thinking that making Mitch Best Man and Lexie Chief Bridesmaid at your wedding wouldn't be awkward!

Anyway, when you are forcing yourself to read a book and doing literally anything other than reading, it's time to quit, even if I was close to the end.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Bumped for release.

I would like to first off thank Amanda for letting me read an early copy of On the Line. This book was incredible and I know it will always have a special place in my heart. From page one, these characters had my heart and their hold on me only grew. I loved For the Boys so much, but I somehow loved this sequel even more.

I absolutely loved how the story went back and forth from how Lexie and Mitch’s relationship had started to them after the break up. It was like I was falling in love with them twice. It was a very unique way to tell this story and really enhanced my feelings as it unfolded.

I really related to this characters and I felt seen in a lot of parts of this novel. Through the author’s vivid words, I could feel exactly what the characters were. They had their ups and downs and I had them with them. A lot of what Lexie felt, I really related to, and she is now a character that will forever be in my heart.

Chaperon broke my heart in this novel. She had me crying my eyes out, but then she put my heart back together. I loved every second of this emotional ride. There were parts where I was laughing out loud and got some odd looks and parts where I had such a big smile on my face because of not only Lex and Mitch, but the friendships in this book.

I really enjoyed seeing more of the friendships from For the Boys and as a more important part of the story. Lexie and Berkley’s friendship, as well as, Mitch and Brent’s is truly goals and I loved seeing it expanded. Plus, I now want to know more about some of the friendships introduced in this novel and loved seeing all the foreshadowing pieces for future books.

On the Line is an incredible dual-POV romance about second and sometimes third chances that I highly recommend. There is grumpy x sunshine plus some enemies to lovers. These characters fight for and find love despite their past and other obstacles (including themselves). I already loved Chaperon’s writing, but this book made me love it even more and this will be a book I will read over and over again.

“I’m terrified. But I need you more than I’m afraid of losing you.”

Before For the Boys came out, Amanda asked me if I wanted an ARC. I was an idiot. I told her I - me! Yes, I was that person - didn’t like sports romance. I was an idiot. Not long after my FOMO kicked in and Bookstagram/Booktok made me read The Deal. I instantly became an idiot obsessed with sports romance books. So I did the only acceptable thing: I went on Amanda’s Etsy and preordered For the Boys. I read it as soon as it arrived and it was marvelous. Brent and Berk were just so easy to love.

But if you remember from my review, I was hoping for a Mitch and Lexie book. So, when Amanda gifted me this ARC I did a happy dance and absolutely lost my mind.

Mitch and Lexie stole my heart then and they stole it again now. Or better yet, I’m stealing them, Amanda, and I will never give them back 😭

Those two idiots - because that’s what they are 😂 - had me wrapped around their fingers. They felt so real; I could see myself in them and fighting for them. Their connection was easy to come, impossible to ignore. But love is terrifying and life kept throwing them curve balls. We all wish we could handle things the right way, keep cool and collected every step of the way. But that’s not how things work, is it?

The dual timeline did things to me and this book is going straight to my favorites list.

This book is perfect for those who love:
🖤second chance romance
🖤sports romance
🖤dual timeline
🖤idiots in love
🖤one tree hill (and if you don’t, what’s wrong with you?!)

Adult. 5 stars ⭐️

The release of this book is still 2 months away but I will keep reminding you. Don’t worry 😁

I recommend reading For The Boys before this to get the background on all the characters. On The Line follows Lexie and Mitch’s absolutely heartbreaking and gut wrenching story. I mean it- I was HURTING reading this (in the best way). Lexie and Mitch are both so relatable. Both have their own version of childhood trauma - and neither really knows how to be in a relationship. This story is so raw and real I felt like I was watching it happen.

They love each other, they hate each other, they want to be with each other and yet the need to protect their hearts sometimes wins and they push each other away.

This was such a painfully honest depiction of a twin flame relationship - you watch them crash and burn and I honestly didn’t know what to expect by the end. Also- the spice was delicious, and of course the bond between the hockey teammates was adorable.

The author does an incredible job bringing the reader through their emotional journey. I loved the dual POV and past/present timelines. This was so well done.

On The Line was a thousand percent my most anticipated read of late 2022, and it most definitely did not disappoint!

An interconnected follow up to Chaperon's debut, For The Boys, OTL follows perpetual party girl Lexie and gentle giant hockey player Mitch as they meet, hit it off, heat it up, reluctantly fall in love...and get their hearts broken in the process.

Everyone, this book was IT! I've been anticipating Lexie and Mitch's story ever since meeting them in FTB, so I could tell I was already going to love this! Chaperon took everything I loved about FTB and delivered a more emotional, funny, steamy and heartbreaking follow up that's, date I say, even better than book 1.

Lexie was such a feisty, stubborn and surprisingly vulnerable leading lady, and mirror that with Mitch's own stubbornness and gushy cinnamon roll hero tendencies, you have such a dynamic, compatible and spicy pairing that will have you laughing, crying, and often screaming at the page to get their shit together.

On The Line was an emotional rollercoaster, that's for sure. You follow Lexie and Mitch through their steamy highs to their heartbreaking lows, but you'll stay invested until the very last page. I'd highly recommend this spicy, emotional second chance romance!

I thoroughly enjoyed For the Boys, but On the Line is my absolute favorite out of the two. I honestly could probably write a book about how much I love this book.

BUT, I’ll make this short, sweet, and to the point!

Things I loved about this book:
~ LEXIE & MITCH enough freaking said
- The steamy scenes had me sweating.
~Amanda really put her heart and soul in this book. You can especially see that with how much her writing has improved.
- The friendships in this book are truly the ones we all long for. I loved seeing the gang back together!
~ Apparently, I'm trash for second chance
romances. Who knew?
~Learning about both Lexie and Mitch's pasts was equally heartbreaking, emotionally exhausting, and amazing.
~ And of course I can't go without commenting on how beautiful the book cover is!
~LASTLY, if you’re looking for a book to tug all of your heart strings THIS 👏🏻 IS 👏🏻 THE 👏🏻 BOOK!

Honestly, On the Line completely shattered my heart, but then put it back together in the best way.

Thank you to the author for the eARC!

« “One day at a time?” She asked

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading sports romances, especially those with hot hockey players and badass heroines😌
Plus, it’s a second chance romance and I absolutely adore them with all that angst between the characters!😍

Mitch and Lexie were absolutely adorable and it was so nice getting to see how it all started between them as well as how they got to learn to know each other a second time.

What you can find in OTL:

✈️ second chance romance
✈️hockey romance
✈️dual pov
✈️dual timeline

This book did not work for me at all. This is going to be a ranty review with spoilers, so brace yourselves.
- This is a poorly executed second-chance romance, with more telling vs showing and larger chunks of recounting vs dialogues
- 50% in, the main characters have shared only ONE encounter (eye-contact) in the "now".
- there is a lot of teasing about the big break-up, but when Lexie finally talks about it to her friends, it gets told in a couple of paragraphs. The breakup event, when told for the first time, does not live up to the build-up.
- the reason for their break-up doesn't make sense to me: The break-up was such bullshit. And given how the whole story is about this.. yeah.
- Another thing that bothered me: That does not seem to align for me.
- Immediately post break-up, there's this scene where Lexie feels that Mitch just abandoned her and everything. Wait, what?? So she pushed him away, then feels that he abandoned her? This girl needs to be in therapy.
- Yet another thing that bothered me: Lexie goes in this down spiral immediately post break-up. Understandable. She can do whatever she wants. Drink herself into a stupor, sleep around, whatever she needs to deal with her feelings. I think that it was icky though, that the first guy she slept with after breaking up with Mitch happens to be the brother of Mitch's best friend. Girl couldn't have taken it out of the friends circle? At least she acknowledges that that was a bad decision. I'm not at the end of the story yet, but I wonder if this is gonna create some drama later for her and Mitch when they eventually get back together (It did create drama, unnecessary, poorly executed drama)
- The love story seems to be barely there in the "now". It was frustrating because it feels like being left wanting. No satisfaction.
- There seems to be lot of fillers, which I wouldn't mind normally, but they feel like they don't bring much to the core of the story.
- Lexie gets mad at Mitch a couple of times because he doesn't tell her some stuff (one big mad, one "you're a pain in my ass") which is hypocritical from someone who never opens up and had to be carrolled into even admitting that they were in a relationship.
- At 65%, Lexie and Mitch still haven't had a proper encounter in the "now", so I just started skimming.
- They finally meet in the "now"! At the 70% mark!! Party time.
- In the "then" part, the moments when Lexie and Mitch really get to talk about their relationship and get real, those are very well executed. I loved those!
- I agree with Lexie when she says that she doesn't deserve Mitch, that guy deserved way better. There's a lot of how he supposedly didn't fight for her, but she pushed him away. She was reluctant about their relationship the whole time, was even angry at him for being the one to always ask more in their relationship. Then how can she be all "he didn't fight for me, he abandoned me"? What was the guy supposed to do??

The more I go further into the story, the less I like Lexie. She puts on airs when he tries to get her back in the "now". SHE should be the one groveling! I get that she fears abandonment, but she has a funny way to deal with all the issues. At no point does she show that she's ready for something serious. She always has one foot out of the door. I don't get why she's fighting this so much?
Oh and I am so with Mitch when he gives her his pov about the break-up and how it all went down. Truer words!

Thank you to the author for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

“When all your dreams come true, who’s the one you want standing next to you?”

Amanda absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. Watching Lexie and Mitch grow together and independently was so amazing. I loved the back and forth of the timeline, the dual POV, and that we got to see some of our favorite characters again & keep up with their lives (I’m looking at you, Jean, Berk, & Cole). This one really put my emotions through the wringer, but in the absolute best way possible.

Not only did Amanda write two MCs that were real and raw that you can’t help fall in love with, all the side characters are amazing & make me even more excited to read whoever’s story is next.

If you haven’t added OTL to your TBR, absolutely do not wait any longer. You won’t regret picking this one up.

For starters if you haven’t read Amanda’s first book “For the Boys” I suggest you do so. It’s a beautifully written love story like this one where you get a little background on all the characters in this book. Is it necessary? No, but why not start from the beginning.

Okay, now onto “On the Line”. If you are looking for a fun, heart wrenching, steamy romance with sports wrapped in (Who doesn’t love Hockey, am I right?) this book will not disappoint. Follow the love story of Lexie and Mitch as their lives bring them together, break them apart, and lead them back to where they belong. You learn what shaped them into who they are and what makes them absolutely perfect for each other. Follow this love story, you won’t be sorry.

I’ve read both of Amanda’s books now and cannot wait for more! Thank you Amanda for the early content! Keep doing you and I’ll keep reading!

a hugeeeeeeee thank you to amanda for giving me an ARC for this book and allowing me to fall in love with these characters so much.

i instantly fell in love with both mitch and lexie from the start and my love for them grew the more i read about them and learned more about them. i connected with lexie so much and her struggles and i loved seeing her become independent and strong on her own.

this story really pull on my heartstrings most of the time and it made me want to throw my phone across the room but that’s the best type of book in my opinion.

i can’t wait for this to come out and everyone else read this and fall in love with mitch and lexie as much as i have.

Oh i adored Mitch & Lex AND this book DEFINITELY made me a Hockey Romance girly! Be sure to check trigger warnings before diving into this story.

The author did an amazing job and making this romance very emotional and relatable. Mitch going through a huge life change after a career ending injury and Lexie struggling with some serious commitment and trust issues with letting Mitch in.

I was cheering this couple on the entire book, and was thrilled when they finally gave in and gave things another shot! AND THE SPICE 🔥🔥🔥 TOP TIER.

I read this as a stand alone, but It is book 2 in the series! I will definitely be going back to read book 1 and I cannot wait to dive into book 3!

I’ve been wanting a Lexie and Mitch story since the previous book. I adored their chemistry, and loved how this story explained everything. These two are everything together! I really liked Lexie’s character and understood why she handled things in her own way after Mitch left. I enjoyed how Mitch and Lexie communicated in the end and how everything turned out. Devoured this in one sitting! *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

On The Line by Amanda Chaperon
Rating: 3 stars
Steam: 3 chilis

On The Line is the second book in the For The Boys series, and I was super excited to read it! I love a good hockey romance, and this one seemed to have everything I was looking for. Mitch and Lexie meet at a party and become inseparable pretty quickly. A terrible misunderstanding drives them apart, only for fate to bring them back together two years later.

This is an emotional, second-chance romance that drew me in right away. For the first half of the book, I genuinely couldn’t put it down! Mitch is a professional hockey player, and Lexie is a successful head hunter, which I thought was a unique and exciting job choice. These two had great chemistry, and things got pretty steamy right away. I loved the dual POV and the flashbacks to the past showing us how the characters got to where they are in the present.

This book is also full of likable characters, supportive friendships, and witty banter. The spice was top-tier, and I loved seeing the character growth of both Lexie and Mitch throughout the story.

There are a few reasons that this was three stars and not higher. The entire story is based on a pretty serious miscommunication, and the reactions that Lexie and Mitch had to the situation felt incredibly unrealistic. Another challenge for me was the length of the book. It felt like the author had a specific word count she was trying to get to, and because of this, it started to get repetitive. The MCs continued to rehash plot points that we were already well acquainted with, going over their breakup repeatedly, discussing Lexie’s bad behavior constantly, etc.

There are also a LOT of characters in this story, and I started to lose track of who we were talking about. I did not read For the Boys, so maybe if I had, I would have been more familiar with the characters.

The drama in this book is cranked up to eleven, and there’s a lot of a “will they, won’t they” push and pull between the MCs that got to be too much after a while. By the 75% mark, I was skimming until the end.

Overall, this book was okay. I want to read more from this author because I like her writing style, she writes emotion really well, and she also writes great steam! Thank you so much to Netgalley and the author for the review copy.

“But one day, you will give in. Because we’re endgame. We always have been.”

Ugh this book!! It was real, it was raw, it was heartbreaking, it was beautiful. I liked For the Boys, but I loved On the Line! I immediately loved Mitch when we got to meet him in FTB and his and Lexie’s story exceeded my expectations. Was Lexie frustrating at times? Absolutely! But I loved watching her character develop as we unpacked her past and watched her grow into the person she wanted to be, someone who deserved her own love story. I was also so proud of Mitch when I learned about everything he had been through and the type of person he turned out to be. Was he also frustrating at times? Sure. But seeing him navigate his situation was beautiful. If you loved Berk & Brent, don’t worry you still get plenty of them in On the Line. Now we need Amelia’s story! Amanda Chaperon, you mastered this one!💗💗

I loved this book so much. I loved For The Boys, I loved Berk and Brent so much. But Mitch and Lexie were so special. Their second chance was so worth everything they went through, they were meant to be. I could see the growth in the writing, and how developed the story was. It was perfect.

I don’t usually love a story where they’re not together and happy for a lot of it. And they had wasted so much time, which I hate! But the flashbacks helped so much because we DID get to see them happy, and we got to see them fighting for the relationship. And we got to see things in the present that were then explained in the past, things Lexie already knew about Mitch things they had already talked about and how it’s affecting now. Amanda did an amazing job of making it flow so well! It just wasn’t necessarily the “regular” storyline set up. But I loved every second. It was so hard to see them fighting it though. They were both so heartbroken! And they both knew they messed up, but they were also both so stubborn?! And they eventually realized they had wasted so much time and weren’t going to waste anymore.

Most second chance romances I feel like are about what happens after they reconnect, but this was more about them fighting to come back together. They both had so much to overcome, together and individually. And again, I loved every second, even though it was a little different than the “usual”.

Mitch loved Lexie so much, and she loved him. He was just so open about it. He knew from the second he met her that his life had changed. He knew she was special. And Lexie was so special to me. I loved her and her broken heart so much. She had such a hard childhood and she was so scared of letting anyone in because she didn’t feel worthy. It didn’t matter that Mitch would do anything for her, she was scared and has been for her whole life.

I loved seeing everyone again! I love a found family so much. Berk is the absolute best friend Lexie could have ever asked for. And neither of them were afraid to call each other out, and that’s what everyone needs in a friend. And even after Mitch ghosted literally everyone, Brent wasn’t willing to let him off easy when he came back but he was also glad his friend was back. I love their friend group so much, they love each other so much.

I cannot wait to see what else Amanda has to write!

Thank you so much to Amanda Chaperone for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I loved the romance between Brent and Berkley in Chaperon's debut novel, but it's obvious she has truly come into her own as a romance author in On the Line. The relationship between the two main characters is even more developed, the action and dialogue is more detailed, the plot is more complex, and the spice is turned up to eleven. Everyone who loved Berk and Brent absolutely needs to meet (and fall in love with) Mitch and Lexie.

A new addition to the For the Boys series that I loved was the inclusion of dual timelines. By moving back and forth from Mitch and Lexie's then to Mitch and Lexie's now, Chaperon was really able to establish the drama and tension that makes their relationship so dynamic on the page.

Lexie is an absolute spitfire and I loved getting inside her head as well as seeing the way she moves about the world. Chaperon did a fantastic job at developing Lexie and her vulnerabilities. She ended up being such a reactive, dynamic character and it was entertaining to watch her interact with her everyone around her.

I loved Brent's character development in For the Boys, but Chaperon gave Mitch so much more to work with and I thought he came across as a stronger character because of it. Personally and professionally, Mitch's life was in upheaval for most of this story. He had a lot thrown at him and lost a lot all at the same time.

Under the surface, both main characters were broken and I loved watching them slowly heal and find themselves again as the story progressed. Chaperon created two well-rounded characters, and watching them fall in, then out, then in love again made for entertaining reading.

On the Line took everything I loved about For the Boys and turned up the intensity. With more drama, more complexities, and lots more spice, this second hockey romance in the For the Boys series brings back all your favorite characters from the first book and gives you lots more to love with Lexie and Mitch.

**A huge thank you to Amanda Chaperon for letting me be an early reader for On the Line**

3.5 - 4 stars

Having previously read For the Boys, I enjoyed going into this book knowing the characters which made it easy for me to settle back into this world and grasp the timelines. I did find myself more drawn to the "now" timeline rather than the past ones though as the past ones felt similar to FTB but from a different perspective (could be just me because I read them back to back!). That being said, I think this book could definitely be read as a standalone.

Besides the hockey aspect, the highlight of this book for me was Mitch. I liked him in FTB but loved him even more in this one. It took me a minute to accept a few things about his story, including that he was traded, but I (mostly) got over it (I guess I'm protective over Mitch😂). I loved Mitch and Lexie's connection but there was a lot of back and forth which made sense as they continued to work through with their childhood and family trauma and its impact on their relationship, but maybe at times I think might have been too much for me personally. I liked Lexie, but at times found her internal dialogue to be repetitive as well. This one was definitely steamier than FTB and I liked that we got glimpses of Brent and Berk again!

Overall, I liked this one! If you are looking for a second chance sports romance (hockey) with a great group of friends that brings the steam, check out On the Line (out December 9, 2022!).

I also like how the author chose to include the trigger warnings in the description of the book, so I encourage you to check those out.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read an arc!

I love a good hockey romance book. This one was filled with lots of drama, fighting for the one you love and lots of spice! Thank you to Amanda Chaperon and Netgalley for access to an advanced copy of the book in return for an honest review!

I dove into this book from the start, the drama and the spice really hooked me. I am also engaged to a huge hockey fan so hockey is always a preferred sports topic. I fell for the instant love connection between Lexie and Mitch, and the powerful vibe between them. Everything spirals out of control and as a reader you're slowly getting bits and pieces of the back story. I think what made this one a 3.5 for me was the amount of back story and how much of a slow burn the novel ended up being. I really stuck it out for the characters though! Berkley and Lexie have a great friendship and it was worth reading for them alone. I'm just not used to such slow-burn novels, and I assume that's why I found it hard to push through near the end.

This novel overall is really good, and I am excited to read others by Amanda!

It’s difficult to articulate just how totally, entirely, wholly, and completely I loved this book. I was taken with it right from the start — actually, having already read and loved For the Boys, I was taken with it before even starting, and my obsession with Lexie & Mitch’s story only spiraled as I read On the Line.

I adored Berk & Brent in FTB, but there was something fresher and more vibrant about OTL, and it definitely hit me harder in the feels. I loved that it was non-linear, and the entangling of the characters’ personal backstories was absolutely masterful and seamless. There were parts that put a lump in my throat; watching Lexie and Mitch grow as individuals made the ending just that much more rewarding.

There were, of course, super fun, well-written hockey scenes, and also vivid solo travel scenes that I so enjoyed immersing myself in!

In summary . . .
UGH I LOVED THIS BOOK GIMME MORE AMANDA

Sexy, steamy, sultry, right from the start.

The way their chemistry is wrote is palpable. The heartbreak, the joy, and all the emotions you will feel right along with them. The story line change from past to present keeps you on your toes and leaves you wanting to keep reading as fast as you can!

Seeing a more in-depth look at Lexie and Mitch's characters and story is truly incredible.

Even with our reading For the Boys, but you should, this stands on its own. Enough back story of Berkley and Brent to get to know them or to be reminded of their story, but not redundant.

I can not get enough of these characters!

Wow, was this book steamy! And it got straight down to business from the very beginning. At first I thought that I couldn't connect with the story or the characters but the structure of the book turned out to be really brilliant. As I got to learn more about what was happening now and what had happened before I became really invested in the story and could understand the main characters and their actions a whole lot better. This book broke my heart and then put it back together again. ❤

This was my first book by Amanda Chaperon but I have a feeling it won't be my last!
