Publisher's Note: This horny monsters spinoff takes place during Radley's Wardrobe.
A zombie, a mimic, and a succubus walk into a bar...
When Dana was killed and resurrected by a necromancer, she didn't know what to expect. She didn't expect to be handed a list of magical items that might cure her if she can find them. She definitely didn't expect the house succubus to come along to service her dangerous needs. And she definitely didn't expect to go head to head with an international organization dedicated to keeping magic out of human hands.
One's dead, the other's horny. Expect the Unexpected.
*This steamy fantasy contains elements of violence and questionable dietary requirements that some will find shocking.*
4.5 stars. Had I not been familiar with the author's previous work (and enjoyed it) I'd have likely given this a miss based on the title. While I don't mind some sex in books, it's not what I'm reading for, and if it takes the place of actual plot I'm not too keen.
The title is a bit misleading, but does make sense, just not as overtly as the title suggests. The book is a "side-quest" to the Radley books, but stands on its own sufficiently if you haven't read those. I read them a while ago so I was a bit fuzzy on some of the events/people described, but it wasn't critical. Not quite as interesting as the main sequence books, but a bit more so than "Last of Her Kind" which is also a crossover here.
This is a whirlwind of action, lesbian sex scenes, emotion and magic. It's not so much a separate series or a spin-off but more of a story that focuses on three of the strongest characters and gives them a separate arc to shine in, then folds neatly back into the main story. A zombie, a succubus and a mimic against an order of anti-magic clerics, an elder god and a would-be dragon. This story is more focused than the others in a way, because of the smaller cast of good guys, and has too many samey sex scenes, but it does have character development, some ok fight scenes and a pretty good story line. And Bigfoot makes a very nice and funny appearance as well! Perhaps a bit too long, but I liked how the story came together in the end. Impressive stuff for the genre.
This spin off the main series starts a bit small scale considering what the main house was up to but maaaaaan halfway through they accidentally time travel so Annabelle just cannot help herself i guess. This book is significantly more lesbian friendly than the main book (still got my fingers crossed on Mike pounding the hell out of a fembois butt) and the final sequence in hawaii goes so hard. Also we get some more of a character from the spider book. Unlike the spider book, i dont know if this works as well as an intro for new people. It does a solid enough job explaining its rules but its still better to come from the main books to here.
And, sure, lots of setups for jokes. "A succubus and a zombie walk into a bar". You really need to catch up on the Home for Horny Monsters series for this to make sense, and reading _Last of Her Kind_ first is also a good idea.
Madcap adventures. Fights and drama and suspense. Some sex (well, you have a succubus, right?). Really good stuff. Highly recommended.
Lots of sex and violence...yet thoughtful, with characters you'd love to know in person. I'm a conservative Christian, and I know some of my friends would go ballistic at reading this...but I like it. This would be a great read without the sex, but humans are sexual beings, so the sex fits the story. If you can't get over that, eat your crayons and wait for someone to empty your diaper.
Annabelle Hawthorn knows how to spin a tale! Her prose, her characters, her twisted plots all seem designed to engulf the mind and hold captive ’til the very last word. And then the hunger for more sets in immediately! I know I’ll be back for more 😁
A very interesting story offshoot story Line that fleshed out Lilly and Dana characters. Not only that it provides an inside look at The Order through the eyes of Cyrus. What will happen from here?
I'm not sure offhand how much sense it'll make if you haven't read the author's larger Radley series (of which this is a spin off), but it's a great book so maybe?
I recommend the book. And the series. And basically everything this author has written.
