I recently fell in love with Paul Henreid by watching him alongside Bette Davis in a few films.
He was such a seriously underrated actor, and as this book details, really mistreated because of the blacklist that plagued Hollywood during the age of the red scare.
This book does not get into a lot of specific details as you might expect from a biography. Often Paul will skim over or be rather casual about certain details. Keeping in mind it his autobiography, you'll only get whatever he chooses to give you. And that's fine! This is a must read if you love Paul and if you aren't already in love with him, I'm not sure how anyone could read this without falling in love with him. I mean, he tells two different stories of basically telling the Nazi party to fuck off. What's not to love?
I wish there was a more comprehensive biography about him that could go into all of the details of his life that this does not get into-and his daughter Monika was working on one at one point, so there may still be hope.
But in the meantime, I love this man. I love his candid nature and his absolute charm.
