A true dog story in his small, Southern hometown inspired Jeremy Campbell to write his debut novel, Between the Causeways. His books focus on fictional worlds inspired by actual events and the best of humanity. As an award-winning television journalist based in New York City, Campbell’s storytelling career has taken him from the coast of California to the source of the Nile River.. Years of covering news events has also contributed to a recurring theme in his writing: sometimes the worst things to ever happen lead to the best.
I enjoyed this story. It has a good story line, well developed characters and good pacing. There are a few spots that are a bit juvenile. So as not to give it away, I'm referring to the three word segues and a naive vet. Also, a missed "Hallmark" moment at the end.
This book was simple and lighthearted, good for if you want something a little cozy and don’t want to put too much thought into figuring everything out. The writing doesn’t try its hardest to be the most engaging book that ever was, but for this type of story, I think that’s okay. The pacing is a little slow, but the characters are lovable, and the relationships they have with each other (and their pets!) are even more heartwarming. It’s short, to-the-point, and invokes a multitude of emotions, mostly happy ones with some silly humor and the occasional sadness, but it’s nice that a book like this allows its readers to feel so many things and not get overwhelmed by it.
This was a very sweet novel about the love of animals, dogs specifically. It also shows the love of community, making new friends and all coming together to save a sweet little puppy! The trials and tribulations of a sweet, lost, abandoned dog is a story you need to read especially if you are a dog lover as I am. Did the little puppy they named Poppy make it? You just have to read this book to find out! It’s worth the read and it’s quick! I couldn’t put it down!
Charming tale for any age. I kept thinking that even a middle grader could read and enjoy this story. And a much younger one would love to listen. Lest you get the wrong idea, I am an adult who loves the spirit of kindness and community of this tale. If you appreciate a story about animals and people and love, this is for you.
You can read this as a wonderful, warm dog story. Dogs have a prominent place in the story. But it is more than that. It is about how we all (both animals and people) need friends and helpers to get along in the world. This is an easy read that will leave you happy at the end.
This is by far, one of the best books I ever read! I laughed, I cried, I held my breath, I rejoiced with every word. I can't remember the last time I read a book that I never wanted it to end! If I could give it a thousand stars I would!
As an animal lover, this book really touched my heart. I have rescued a few animals in my lifetime. Always loved them, and wish I could have helped more animals. A very good read, and well written!
The story itself is good. Writing - not so much. Not really much character development, not even for the dogs. I think there were some timeline issues also.
A very heart warming story. Lovable characters and dogs. Who doesn't love dogs? The story is set in a small community and a small lost puppy brings them all together. I loved this book.
Heartfelt, loving, kind, special kinda story. For those who love dogs, this book is for you. Tissue is required for the whole story, good and bad. A must read!!!!
I do love everything within the pages, whether paper or cyber. The characters, setting, the furbabies and one bird, captured me from page 1. Just love everything!
Between the Causeways will blaze a path straight to your heart.
Has the nightly news been dragging you down? Are you tired of bad news, political fighting, and tragedies? Here’s something to make you feel a lot better. Between the Causeways by Jeremy Campbell is a story based on real events. It is about a small community that comes together to help a little dog, abandoned on the side of the road and orphaned when his mother disappears. It will help you believe in the goodness of humanity once again.
Between the Causeways is a cozy story about a group of people brought together by their care for a dog who lives in the woods. This book would be perfect as a Hallmark movie! Its a quick, heartwarming read that reminds us how important community is, for there will come a time when we truly need it.
Quick read and a beautiful story. Small town community of people coming together to share their love and rescue for animals. Based on a real life story and this is Campbell's debut novel. Days turn into months, turn into years as the community band together for the life of Poppy and other beautiful dogs.
Wonderful book. Since I’m from this area I can visualize the characters driving down Langston Rd in search of little Poppy. Looking forward to reading about Roscoe in the next book.
This is one of my favorite books written by a wonderful author. It's a great story with friendship, disaster, helping animals and people, and it has beautifully described scenery. It's very heartfelt, and I can't wait for the sequel.
I was so excited to read each page as each page was a new beginning but did Emma and Charles get married? I hope so a great animal love story and how people can really come together for a doggie
