The Rebel is the last book in the Emerson Pass historical series, and what a wonderful, heartwarming way to say goodbye to these characters. Delphia is the youngest of the Barnes’ siblings, and as the story begins she is returning home after college, which happens to be December 7, 1941. Now Delphia’s life is about to change forever, as are the lives of every member of her family. There is heartbreak in this story, but there is also great love. Each of the books in this series have centered around family and home, and The Rebel embraces all of that. One of my favorite things about all of these books is that the women in this family, beginning with Quinn in the very first book, are smart, strong, and independent. The men who love them are equally strong, and they love the women in their lives enough to let them live their lives as they wish. I love the way the Barnes family, all generations, and the people that become part of the family, are always there for each other, through good times and bad, through challenges and loss, sickness and despair. The last chapter of this book encapsulated it all, and I cried as I read it, both happy and sad tears. I highly recommend that you read this wonderful series from the beginning, so that you can become acquainted and grow fond of all of these wonderful characters.

Un volume intenso, struggente e profondamente toccante chiude una fra le più imponenti serie historical romance lette. Una saga familiare di memorabile spessore, degna di tutta l' attenzione che merita, narrata con autentico, avvincente e sensibile realismo che ha delineato il ritratto storico di una lunga epoca tristemente segnata dalla brutalità di 2 guerre mondiali che ci restituisce uno scenario di terrificante devastazione delle condizioni psicofisiche umane, un' inaudita ferocia che ha straziato famiglie e comunità sterminando vite, città, certezze, e volontà. Delphia, la più piccola delle ragazze Barnes, di indole ribelle e indipendente è da sempre innamorata del suo caro amico Jack, un ragazzo dalla tempra rocciosa e indomabile che ha ricambiato i sentimenti con rispetto e generosità lasciandola libera di inseguire prima i propri studi ed i propri sogni. Appena laureata decide di tornare in seno all' affetto confortevole e sicuro della famiglia ed ad accoglierla c'è proprio Jack deciso finalmente a dichiarale tutto il suo amore. Una passione travolgente che si consuma con un matrimonio sul quale incombe l' ombra sinistra della seconda guerra mondiale che dopo l' attacco a Pearl Harbor vede chiamare alle armi molti americani. Il numeroso clan Barnes ha superato molte prove dure sempre unito con coraggio, audacia, determinazione ma davanti l' incubo minaccioso della guerra non ha scampo e gli uomini più giovani della famiglia si arruolano con gli Alleati. Anche Jack parte come marine oltreoceano lasciando in ansia, attaccata solo a frammenti di ricordi e speranza la sua giovane bella sposa. Fra gli 8 volumi è sicuramente quello che insieme al terzo dedicato a Theo mi ha travolto il cuore con una spirale di emozioni commoventi e implacabili che mi hanno fatto versare fiumi di lacrime. La guerra è una pagina cruenta e reale che macchia di violenza e atrocità la storia dipingendo con angoscia le vicende di chi l' ha vissuta. Uomini leali, onesti e coraggiosi che sono partiti per onorare la patria perdendo le loro vite e quelli sopravvissuti sono tornati portandosi dietro tutto l' orrore impresso nei loro occhi, cicatrici indelebili e traumi inguaribili. Jack è un ragazzo caparbio e orgoglioso ma la guerra è riuscita a cambiarlo. Gli ha portato via una parte di se e del suo carattere forte e valoroso rendendolo debole, amareggiato rabbioso, intrattabile, sconfitto dentro. Feriti entrambi nell' animo dal dolore e dalle terribili conseguenze che il conflitto mondiale ha inferto loro sarà estremamente difficile per Delphia e Jack ritrovarsi, ritrovare quella parte del cuore con cui si sono amati, quella sensazione meravigliosa di appartenersi nel bene e nel male, quella passione intensa ed intima che avevano condiviso, seppur brevemente, con ardore e trasporto. Momenti intensi, tesi, duri, introspettivi che la Thompson ci fa vivere con riflessione e potente emozione legandoci agli animi tormentati dei protagonisti e all' acuta sofferenza provata dai loro cuori. Una romanzo vivido che dà voce alla morte, al dolore, ai sentimenti, alla rinascita e all' amore in cui la famiglia è il perno indissolubile, il fulcro vitale di conforto e sostegno per il duro prezzo pagato. Una lettura cruda che non lascia indifferenti ma ci regala speranza nei sentimenti e un epilogo meraviglioso che ci ricongiunge all' inizio della storia come un cerchio che si chiude giusto e perfetto intorno a questa esemplare famiglia pilastro e genitrice di una comunità forte in termini di valori e integrità e agli splendidi e indimenticabili luoghi che hanno creato la suggestiva ed originale atmosfera Inondando di incantevole bellezza ogni pagina narrata.

The end of there Emerson Pass Historicals series has finally come, and I’m so sad. This has been such a fantastic series, following each daughter of the Barnes family throughout the years. The final book is about Delphia.

The Rebel is a much darker book than any of the previous books of this series, but for a very important reason - it takes place during World War 2. Naturally, with war comes tragedy, and the author did not shy away from that at all. Delphia had to go through so much in this story - well, all of them did, really. I very much relate to James in this story, because although it didn’t happen in the same way of course, I also lost my leg in an accident. I can’t even imagine it happening in a war.

This book was a great end to an amazing series. The overall message that a person can do anything if they have the support of their family - in whatever version of family that person has - shines through. Thank you, Tess Thompson, for crafting such a beautiful ending.

How painful to say this is the final book in the historical Emerson Pass series! Tess Thompson has given a gift of the Barnes family and I will miss them dreadfully. The Rebel is a series of goodbyes and a reminder of how the reader got to this point. Each family member, not characters, has a past, present and future and this book ties it all together. As I slowly read this final book my mind remembers scenes from past books that I had forgotten but some of the memories from the Barnes family are new to me as I'm positive they were not in the books. Thompson has a way of slipping a new memory into the plot so that it seems real, if that makes sense From the school mistress to The Rebel, Thompson has led her readers through both World Wars, prohibition, women's rights and the Great Depression. The Barnes family are examples of how a family can survive loss, heartache and tragedy and end up stronger for it. I know I'm not specifically reviewing The Rebel but it's hard to separate the book from the complete story. If you haven't started the series I envy you. If you have read the series and are reading The Rebel my heart is with you.

Tess Thompson writes wonderful books., both contemporary and historical, the latter being my favorite. This historical novel gets a 5 star rating from me. There is so much attention to detail, and heart wrenching emotion. We visit the Barnes family for the final time, and this time it's Delphia 's turn. Her story takes place during WWII, bringing struggle, hardship and tragedy. And love. As always, the closeness of family is a huge part of the story, along with community and friendship. Emerson Pass is a wonderful place to visit... and I'm going to miss it.

What an amazing series of books this one wraps it up.. Such wonderful books each and every one.

This is the last book in the series.. I recommend reading each story . You Will not want to miss any of them.

This was a beautiful end to a beautiful story.


I can say, i wish there were going to be 10 more books. But as we know, everything good comes to an end eventually...

The Rebel by Tess Thompson is the final book in the Emerson Pass historical fiction series. What a final story it is! Every book in this series has been so well done with wonderful characters. However, The Rebel, is probably the most emotional and heartwarming of all.
Delphia has returned home and Jack has been waiting for her. Pearl Harbor is bombed and it’s the beginning of WWII. This will touch each and every member of the Barnes family in some way. It’s always hard when a series we love comes to an end, yet this was done so well it was the perfect ending.
You’ll definitely want to start this series at the beginning.

Siamo arrivati, con una certa emozione, all’ultimo capitolo della saga di Emerson Pass. La traduttrice, Isabella Nanni, ci aveva avvisato che sarebbe stato oltremodo emozionante ma non potevamo sapere quanto. Ero molto curiosa e impaziente di leggere la storia di Delphia, fin dal libro precedente, quello di Addie, dove mi aveva colpito molto e i suoi intrighi a fin di bene mi avevano fatto ridere. Credevo sinceramente fosse un’altra Cym, invece l’autrice è stata molto brava a caratterizzarla in maniera diversa. In questo ottavo romanzo ritroviamo Delphia ormai adulta, realizzata, che torna a casa dopo l’università.
Scopriamo che la piccola Barnes ha da sempre avuto una simpatia per Jack, figlio di un allevatore di cavalli e di una donna che ha servito in casa sua; loro due, con Beaumont e Bleu, i gemelli adottati da Fiona, sono stati molto amici da piccoli. Anche lui ha sempre avuto un debole per Delphia ma da uomo intelligente qual è non si è mai dichiarato, lasciandola libera di trovare la propria strada. Delphia, ormai laureata, avendo dimostrato di essere una mente brillante, più di molti uomini, torna a Emerson Pass e riallaccia i rapporti con il suo amico del cuore.
Ci vuole poco, ai due giovani, per rendersi conto che ciò che hanno provato è stato sempre amore. Dopo il tempo passato, e trascorso lontano, ora i due ragazzi hanno voglia e desiderio di stare il più possibile insieme. Per questo annunciano il loro fidanzamento un po’ a sorpresa. Ma sono entrambi forti, determinati e sicuri del loro reciproco sentimento. C’è un’altra motivazione alla base della loro apparente fretta, oltre che recuperare il tempo perduto. Gli Stati Uniti sono stati attaccati a Pearl Harbor e hanno deciso quindi di entrare in guerra. La famiglia Barnes è ovviamente travolta da questa decisione: quasi tutti i membri maschili della famiglia partiranno alla volta dell’Europa e le donne sono terrorizzate all’idea di non rivederli più. Non aggiungo altro, ovviamente, per non guastarvi la sorpresa.
Questo romanzo è bellissimo come gli altri ma risulta maggiormente intrecciato agli avvenimenti storici dell’epoca, in questo caso alla guerra, che condiziona, e non potrebbe essere altrimenti, la trama e mostra come ogni famiglia americana abbia vissuto una tale tragedia. I Barnes sono proprio l’emblema del sogno americano che diventa responsabilità, voglia di riscatto, senso della giustizia. Tornano quasi tutti i protagonisti precedenti, soprattutto Cym, Addie, Alexander, Quinn, Philip, Josephine, Fiona e Li. La sensazione è di essere immersi totalmente nelle vicissitudini familiari; si tende a empatizzare maggiormente con questo o con quello, si rischia di essere troppo coinvolti e di soffrire con ognuno di loro. È stata un’esperienza di lettura molto più profonda e coinvolgente del solito, forse a causa anche del contesto drammatico. In ogni caso il finale più giusto per una serie del genere. Ho adorato i due protagonisti, specialmente Delphia, una giovane donna che non ha nulla da invidiare alle altre sorelle Barnes: è tenace, combattiva, generosa, si fa davvero amare. Anche Jack è un bellissimo personaggio, l’autrice ha reso benissimo i suoi tormenti, la sua sofferenza e ha portato il lettore a una grande empatia. Piacevolissimo ritrovare tutto il clan, come lo chiamo io, e scoprire come siano cambiate le cose, nel frattempo. Infine perfetto il finale, con la voce narrante di Quinn, protagonista del primo libro e colei che ha dato inizio a tutto. Commoventi le sue parole, emozionanti le vicende sviluppatesi.
Durante la lettura mi è sembrato veramente di essere dentro un film talmente erano vivide le scene, descritte perfettamente. Complimenti sia all’autrice che alla traduttrice. Un altro romanzo a cinque stelle per la Thompson, che è riuscita a creare personaggi molto variegati ma tutti profondi e ben caratterizzati. Abbiamo pianto, riso con loro, ci siamo emozionati e immedesimati. Il talento è stato proprio nel creare otto libri diversi, ognuno con una propria originalità, nella capacità di usare uno stile elegante e pulito, di creare trame coinvolgenti, eroi ed eroine dai forti valori in cui è stato facile indentificarsi. Una serie delicata, adatta e consigliata davvero a tutti, agli amanti del genere non, alle grandi romantiche e sognatrici, come me, a chi ama l’happy ending nonostante tutto, a chi predilige le storie di famiglia e di rinascita; è stato un viaggio fantastico che ci ha fatto attraversare diverse generazioni e che alla fine, se da una parte ci ha reso felici e soddisfatti, dall’altra ci ha lasciato con una grande malinconia e la speranza che quello per Emerson Pass possa essere solo un arrivederci e non un addio definitivo.

Ultimo capitolo della serie storia sulla famiglia Barnes, e ci racconta la storia di Delphia, la più giovane dei fratelli.
Siamo ormai alle soglie del secondo conflitto mondiale e Delphia sta tornando a casa dopo la laurea e una promettente carriera universitaria, carriera che ha bruscamente lasciato dopo le sgradevoli avance del suo professore.Fin dalle prime pagine della storia si percepisce come la vita stia cambiando non solo per lei, ma per tutti, anche ad Emerson Pass nel Colorado: Pearl Harbour è stata attacata e tutti sanno quale sarà l’inevitabile conseguenza.Il ritorno di Delphia farà sì che Jack, l’uomo di cui lei è sempre stata innamorata, troverà il coraggio per dichiararle i suoi sentimenti: Jack, il ragazzo con cui lei è cresciuta e che l’ha sempre ritenuta troppo in gamba per un semplice allevatore di cavalli come lui, con i calli alle mani.
E invece nelle pagine del libro l’autrice ci porta a scoprire come due persone così diverse passando attraverso la tragedia della guerra, possano davvero scoprire il significato di “nella buona e nella cattiva sorte”.

«”E’ solo che la persona con cui si sceglie di passare la vita influisce su ogni altra cosa. Senza il partner giusto, non puoi diventare quello che dovresti essere”.»

Da una parte Delphia e la sua tenacia e dall’altra Jack, disposto a lasciarla andare per non coinvolgerla nella sua disperazione, ci raccontano come la guerra non sia solo sul campo di battaglia, ma possa restare a lungo dentro di noi.
Le donne, fortissimi personaggi di questa serie, saranno la leva su cui questa coppia ritroverà insieme la forza per andare avanti, sempre lì l’una per l’altra, nelle sfide e nelle perdite, nella malattia e nella disperazione, nel ricordo di chi non c’è più.

«Perché dove c’è amore, tutto è possibile. E con l’amore non ci si dice mai veramente addio. I nostri ricordi mantengono vivo quell’amore finchè non andiamo in cielo per riunirci.»

L’epilogo è infatti come un lungo capitolo di saluto da parte di Quinn, la mamma, la maestra, che con il suo arrivo in questa rumorosa e affettuosa famiglia, aveva creato quell’amore incondizionato e quel sostegno di cui abbiamo letto in tutti i volumi.
Termina così il viaggio dei Barnes, e se non lo avete ancora fatto, cari Magnetici, vi consiglio davvero di leggerlo.

Sono giunta alla fine di questa stupenda serie tradotta in italiano da Isabella Nanni che racconta la storia della famiglia  Barnes costruita su solide basi di amore, fratellanza, amicizia, aiuto reciproco e rispetto. Volume dopo volume abbiamo conosciuto i vari membri della famiglia ed approfondito le loro vicende. In questo ultimo capitolo, tocca alla piccola di famiglia:  Delphia Barnes, che tanto piccola non lo è più, che ritorna a casa dopo aver terminato gli studi universitari ed iniziare la sua vita da adulta. Ed è proprio da quel treno, che inizia questa fantastica avventura. E' come se iniziasse l'ultima puntata della nostra serie televisiva preferita che ci rende partecipa e protagonista di ciò che avverrà. Siamo tutte su quel treno sedute accanto a Delphia. Sentiremo il battito del suo cuore che accellera per l'emozione, man mano che la meta si avvicina. Sentiremo la sua ansia e la sua delusione nel non ritrovare nessuno della sua famiglia ad attenderla (come accadde invece nel settimo capitolo al ritorno a casa del futuro marito della sorella), ma sentiremo anche la sua emozione nel trovare sui binari il suo unico amore, amico d'infanzia. Purtroppo questo volume metterà a dura prova emotiva la famiglia Barnes a causa della guerra che porterà lontano i suoi figli, nipoti, mariti, amici. Respireremo le brutture della guerra che annienta l'essere umano togliendo dignita' e gioia di vivere. Alcuni componenti della famiglia ritorneranno provati nell'anima e nel corpo, altri non vi faranno ritorno e chi resta...dovra' raccoglierne i cocci e cio' che ne restera'. Delphia dovra' superare delle prove difficili. La storia racconta un pezzo di storia dall'altra parte della barricata; quella parte che non ha deciso per la guerra, ma la subisce. Racconta la forza e l'amore di una famiglia che si rafforza di fronte alle avversita'. Il romanzo e' scritto con un linguaggio semplice, moderato che ne rafforza  la storia e trasmette le emozioni che da essa fuoriescono. La storia e' scorrevole e puo' essere letta da tutte le fasce d'eta', in quanto la mancanza di scurrilita' e di scene sessuali esplicite, la rendono acessibile a tutte. lettura consigliata... con un pacchetto di fazzoletti a portata di mano.

«E ci siederemo intorno a questo fuoco proprio come stiamo facendo ora» disse Jack, tirandomi più vicino. «Tieni accesi i fuochi di casa, Delphia.»

Questo è il volume conclusivo di una saga familiare appassionante.
Quando ho iniziato a leggere la storia di una giovane maestra che attraversava gli Stati Uniti per andare a lavorare in un paesino di montagna in Colorado, non pensavo che mi sarei così affezionata agli abitanti di Emerson Pass.
Invece, dagli inizi del '900 sino alla seconda guerra mondiale, la famiglia di lord Barnes è cresciuta e ne ha fatta di strada, con ben altre due generazioni (figli e nipoti), tra nascite, matrimoni, viaggi e lutti.

Nel frattempo, anche Emerson Pass è davvero cambiata: un paese che è divenuto cittadina, con impianti sportivi, attività commerciali, cittadini illustri.
E restava l'ultima della nidiata Barnes da sistemare, quella Delphia che abbiamo visto poco e che però è sempre stata molto coccolata in famiglia. Dopo l'università anche lei torna a casa e si sposa velocemente con l'amico d'infanzia Jack, ragazzo sportivo, pieno di vita, allevatore di cavalli. Ma la guerra incombe, gli uomini partono per il fronte, e non c'è quasi il tempo per la luna di miele.
Al suo rientro, Jack è un giovane a pezzi, nel fisico e nella mente; proprio allora incomincia la missione di Delphia, pronta a tutto per ricostruire un sogno andato in frantumi.

Come sempre, tanta dolcezza e buoni sentimenti; il clan non lascia soli e in quell'angolino montano non manca mai la speranza.
Però è stato bello vedere i Barnes interagire ancora una volta, con più rughe ma anche molta saggezza, e la chiusura della storia si è venata di una certa malinconia.
Mi piacerà ricordare questa saga con l'incoraggiamento della maestra Quinn, lo stesso sempre ripetuto in seguito: «Scendi dal treno, cara. La vita ti aspetta.»

A dramatic end to this epic series

This amazing series started in 1910 with The School Mistress, and finds its heartwarming conclusion with the romance for the last of the original couple's seven children set during the turbulent years of WWII. Throughout the series, we follow the Barnes family from the late pioneer days in Colorado, through WWI, the Roaring Twenties, Prohibition, the Great Depression, and finally, another war.

Delphia returns home from college on December 7, 1941, so her reunion with her high school best friend is overshadowed by the impending war. There's an instant rekindling of the feelings they had years ago, but Jack chose not to act upon them so Delphia wouldn't forego her chance at an education. Now that she's back home, there's an urgency to commit to each other before the war rips them apart.

This romance is more about sustaining the HEA when the hard times hit, rather than just chronicling the road to a happy coupling. Jack and Delphia's love is strained nearly to the breaking point, but a more devastating tragedy helps them reestablish their priorities.

I enjoyed these characters as a couple, and it was especially rewarding to catch up with both of their families as these are characters we've followed throughout the series. The last chapter is a deeply moving epilogue from mother Quinn's perspective in December 1945, which neatly wraps up the entire series. Now that the series is complete, I'm looking forward to rereading all the books straight through again. I loved the entire series, and I highly recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

"La Guerriera di Emerson Pass" di Tess Thompson è un avvincente romanzo d'amore storico che ti coinvolge dall'inizio alla fine del libro. Ambientato durante la seconda guerra mondiale, segue la storia dell'ultima delle sorelle Barnes: Delphia, una giovane donna che torna a casa a Emerson Pass dopo aver completato gli studi universitari. I delayed reading this book for a while as it is the final instalment of Ms Thompson's Emerson Pass series and I wasn't quite ready to take my leave of the Barnes family. But eventually curiosity won the day.
In "The Rebel" we get the youngest Barnes's story. Delphia grows up as the youngest of seven in the Barnes household, unlike her older sisters, society has relaxed rules for women and with the outbreak of World War Two, society takes more blows. Emerson Pass is not spared the war, with the Barnes family sending sons, grandsons and the newest son-in-law - Delphia's husband Jack Depaul to join the war with fellow townsmen.
No war leaves families untouched and when Jack returns, his and Delphia's world is turned upside down as they have to navigate the new normal and decide if their marriage vows can stretch to these new turns. The death of a well-loved character on the fields of France is the turning point for the Depaul's, the event that decides their future. (Still rather mad that Ms Thompson killed off someone we loved).
The final chapter wraps all eight books nicely - although to be honest, I did hold out hope for a War Office clerical error to unkill someone.
I guess the time has come to leave Emerson Pass and the Barnes's. I can't wait to see where the author takes us next.

Ritorniamo per l'ultima volta a Emerson Pass. Finalmente, mi sento di dire, perché non approvo le serie tirate troppo per le lunghe, ma giustamente è necessario chiudere il cerchio e dare a ogni personaggio il compimento della sua storia.
La protagonista è l'ultima sorella, Delphia, che al ritorno dai suoi studi in città si stabilisce nella casa di famiglia tra le montagne del Colorado; nel suo cuore è rimasto il giovane allevatore di cavalli del quale è innamorata dall'infanzia, Jack Depaul.
Breve corteggiamento e poi rapido matrimonio, mentre gli U.S.A attaccati a Pearl Arbor entreranno in guerra mandando a morire tanti giovani uomini.
Anche la famiglia di Lord Barnes è toccata dal reclutamento e qualcuno non tornerà più a casa.
Gli effetti del conflitto toccheranno la giovane coppia quando Jack è congedato perché mutilato.
Rabbia, dolore e umiliazione eroderanno la fresca unione e Delphia dovrà avere tutta la forza per non cedere.
Storia come di consueto tratteggiata con attenzione ai sentimenti, forte ispirazione patriottica e grande atmosfera all'americana.
Scorreranno fiumi di lacrime che potranno soddisfare chi ama i feuilleton d'altri tempi.
Una traduzione coerente e impeccabile con un ottimo editing fanno il resto.
Salutiamo la saga soddisfatti.

The Rebel by Tess Thompson.

It's the final in a series and it did NOT disappoint. I have read many books by this author. It takes place during the World War II era and is the story of Jack and Delphia.

Jack is this super strong handsome bachelor that the entire population of young women in this town would love to be with, he could have his choice of anybody.

Delphia is young and she's beautiful and she's smart and she's the rebel. She's always gotten what she wants, she's done exactly what she wanted. She was always the one getting people into trouble but she is such a strong independent and courageous woman and has a beautiful soul.

This is their journey, but it is so much more. It is the story of them and it's the story of their entire family and it's got all of the things that a book this amazing has. All of the highs and has all of the lows. There are moments when I literally cried, times when I laughed and even times when I cheered for joy.
Then, because it's a series finale everything's brought together in the end. And it's brought together so beautifully, that it is just peaceful.

Do yourself a favor, grab this series and come visit Emerson Pass for a while you won't regret it.

The Rebel by Tess Thompson is the final book in her Emerson Pass Historical Series. This is a very beautifully written story, it will bring tears to your eyes. I feel so close to the Barnes family, reading each book about each daughter, Tess Thompson always makes you feel a part of the story. This is Delphia and Jack’s story and a much darker storyline than the others. This one takes place with WWII and all that came with it. Delphia and Jack face some hard times in their young marriage but as always the Barnes family come through! It is told in dual point of views, of course Jack and Delphia except for the last chapter. This was the hardest part of the book! It is told by Quinn, the mother of this wonderful family. She pulls this whole series together……have the tissues nearby because she pulls at your heartstrings. I highly recommend this beautiful series and book, Tess Thompson never disappoints.

When Delphia steps off the train in her beloved Emerson Pass, it is to the news that WW2 has started with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She is greeted by her dearest friend and the one she has always loved, Jack. Soon, their feelings are in the open, and they marry before Jack and the other young men of the Barnes clan leave for war. Their love flourishes.

When Jack returns, he is changed both mentally and physically. He pushes Delphia away, and they have to fight for their marriage through many tough times, but together, they know that they can make it. Delphia and the Barnes sisters make sure of that.


Wow! What a perfectly perfect ending to an amazing series. This story was really an amazing one. It was so well written. It was a painful read at times, I won't lie. Literally, if you follow the series, bring the tissues. It had me bawling, but it was a beautiful wartime story all the same. It was full of hope and was beautiful. From the characters to the scenery, Emerson Pass will stay with me for a long time. Which will be perfectly perfect to me.

This book was a great ending to the Emerson Pass Historicals. Tess Thompson has done such a great job with this series, including the impacts of World War I on the characters in one of the earlier books, and now including World War II in this book. This book is Delphia and Jack's story. Delphia is the youngest daughter in the Barnes family and is similar to her sister Cymbeline in personality. She is a strong, smart young woman who studies mathematics at college during a time when that was not typical for women. She returns home to help with the family business and discovers that her old crush, Jack, shares her strong feelings for him. How will the War impact their relationship and will he and it survive? Read the book to find out. I will miss the Barnes family, but this was an excellent final book in the series. Thank you to the author and the publisher for an advanced review copy. All opinions are my own.

This is the final installment of this series, which makes it bittersweet. This is Delphia’s story and coincides with her coming home from college the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. She has always been in love with Jack, but she thought he rejected her. When he picks her up from the train station, his feelings are revealed and their lives change forever.
Jack was so sweet and didn’t want to waste anymore time, so they decide to get married before he goes to fight in the war. I found it hard to like Jack for awhile, even though I understood what he was trying to do. This is part of the heartbreaking part of the story, because he comes home hurt and he treats Delphia horribly. Until a true tragedy strikes and he has an epiphany.
The heartwarming part comes in the closing chapter when we get Quinn’s POV one more time. I really enjoyed this book, as well as the series. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

Oh, how I hate to say goodbye to this family! What a wonderful series that I stumbled upon and fell in love wtih! While it should not have been shocking, especially to someone whose children are spaced by nearly 20 years, I couldn't believe how much time had elapsed from the first book to the last. How was the youngest child graduating from college while older siblings were sending their sons off to war? While I never wanted the series to end, I thought the author did an admirable job tying up all the loose ends and catching us up on what had happened to all the characters we had come to know. I definitely recommend this series, but by all means, it should be read in order. While I wouldn't classify it as Christian even if there were references to God, faith, hope, etc., the family clearly exemplified many Christian characteristics that we would all do well to emulate as Christ taught us to do.

The Rebel is the final book of wonderful Emerson Pass historical fiction series and what a beautiful wrap up it is! Such bittersweet story and so bittersweet feeling to say goodbye to this beautiful town and people who are so realistic it really feels like you’re in family gatherings with them. You feel their love, happiness and are sad when they are grieving and facing darkness in life. All the emotions and feelings are still over the top of my mind after finishing this heartfelt story. Delphia and Jack’s love story, a journey to find a way to prove that we can do anything if we set our minds and heart up and follow our dreams.
To say that I loved this book isn’t enough. I cried my eyes and soul out reading it and I absolutely adore it. Everyone should read it and see this by themselves.
Now waiting for the new series promised by amazing Tess Thompson.

And here we are...at the end of an amazing journey with the Barnes family.

There is no need to say that I've completely loved this book and the two protagonists.

Knowing that "The Rebel" was the end of this wonderful and heartwarming saga has broken me a little, I'm still not ready to say goodbye to them all for good...

But this last book is simply a marvellous closure! It made me move and mostly it filled me with pure joy!

As you can see, I couldn’t be more happy with the decision I took almost two years ago to start this series! These books have made me feel at home and, book after book, I couldn’t choose anymore which of the characters were my favorite ones as I've truly loved them all!

A huge thank you goes to you Tess for letting me become a part of the Barnes family but mostly thank you for making me dream!

This was an amazing read of the last book in the Emerson Pass Historicals. What a story to end the series. The storytelling, the characters and how the story between Delphia and Jack develop.
The story has a hopeful beginning, and then war comes along and also the hardships a family will endure. It all unravels and you've got the feeling that you are there living in their world. The author describes it all very nicely and it is great to follow the Barnes family and how close knit they are no matter the difficulties they go through. The end of the story doesn't leave us with questions un answered which is great. The final opus ends very nicely and closing the book leaves you with the happy feeling and content. I'm grateful to the author to have gotten the opportunity to read this wonderful book and can highly recommend it even as a stand alone book.

Tess Thompson, you had me reaching for my tissues several times during The Rebel! I don’t do spoilers but for those of us who have followed the Emerson Pass series through all 8 books so far, The Rebel did not disappoint.

Delphia Barnes, the last of the Barnes sisters, has finally come home to Emerson Pass after going to college and then working for the institute for a year. She left behind a man who is the one she really wants to spend her life with, whilst she has been away he has been dating another woman and Delphia suspects they are engaged or married by now.

America is on the brink of joining into World War 2, how are the family going to fare?

It’s a gripping book, very well crafted by the pen of Tess Thompson and if you haven’t already immersed yourself in Emerson Pass, what are you waiting for 😁

Finale di questa saga americana, con tanto di "foto ricordo" di Quinn nell'ultimo capitolo... stile semplice fino a diventare superficiale, ma ho trovato molto rispettoso il modo in cui si è parlato del dolore della guerra e dei suoi reduci.
Ho già dimenticato tutti i personaggi e le loro vite, trame talmente ingenue da diventare banali, una traduzione imbarazzante e ripetitiva... eppure l'ho finita, tutto merito dell'influenza. É una lettura adatta quando si ha la febbre: non serve attenzione per stargli dietro, se ti perdi qualcosa non importa, tanto tutto viene ripetuto mille volte, e non c'è nessuna forte emozione, mai, perché ogni tentativo di "colpo di scena" viene represso da così tante anticipazioni che te lo imboccano proprio.
Però mi ha tenuto compagnia in queste feste natalizie da ammalata, quindi comunque 3 stelle

The Rebel is the 8th and final book in the Emerson Pass historical series. Delphia Barnes returns home from college to find that her longtime crush, Jack, is single. They quickly enter into a relationship. However, Pearl Harbor is bombed during World War II and Jack enlists in the Marines. Delphia and Jack get married right before he ships out to war. When Jack comes home, he is injured and does not feel that he deserves Delphia and is very cruel to her. With the help of Delphia and Jack's family, they work through their issues and find their happily ever after.

This book is very realistic and a tearjerker! Thank you, Tess, for another wonderful book. The entire series is definitely worth reading.

The Rebel is Delphia and Jack’s story, and what a story it is! Friends first and lovers last, their life has always been shared. Everything in their life was perfect until it wasn’t. WWII has finally touched America and Lord Barnes’ family. It seems that nothing will ever be right again as all the men go off to fight in this terrible war. The Rebel is a perfect ending to the Emerson Pass series, and the last chapter, voiced by Quinn, ties up all the loose ends as we readers prepare to say goodbye to our beloved Emerson Pass and all the people we have come to love. Thank you to the author for an ARC, all opinions and tears are my own. I have loved Emerson Pass, Colorado and will miss reading its stories.

The Barnes Family is one of my favorite fictional families of all time. Tess Thompson did an incredible job of following Lord Barnes and his children throughout the decades in Emerson Pass. I really feel like I have watched these characters grow up. I am attached to them and I am sad that this is the end of an incredible series. All good things must come to an end, however, and this is a beautifully written end to a wonderful story. Truly, this would make an excellent series to stream (binge) and I wish someone would pick this up and bring it to life. I highly recommend this book and this series. You will fall in love with Delphia and Jack (and the rest of the Barnes family. Well done, Tess! I cannot wait to see where your imagination takes us next.
