Sometimes I hear them. Other times I hear what they heard. Other times it’s something else entirely …

Logan Dalaguerre isn’t crazy. But if he can’t get the dead to quiet down, he will be. A month out of psychiatric care, all he wants is to avoid being committed again, but the unceasing whispers of the dead, haunting chills, and a disturbing presence stalking ever closer are making that far more complicated than he’d like. And the ghost of a young woman is desperate for his help—her killer is at large and ready to strike again.

As Logan seeks to solve her death, ghostly hauntings, violent murderers, and slipping sanity are the least of his worries. Because while he hunts the killer, something far more sinister is hunting him.

A wonderfully comfortable Supernatural Mystery with no suspension of disbelief necessary, CALL FROM THE CROSSROADS is S. K. Ehra's debut novel, and a fine entertainment it is! Logan, newly released from the psychiatric hospital to which his parents committed him after three tours of Afghanistan, an apparent psychotic breakdown, and the tragic loss of his wife, is struggling to stabilize a life in which ghosts and other entities possess full access to him. When he discovers the corpse of a young woman missing for months, her spirit attaches to him and ensures he sets out to track her vicious murderer before more young lives are inexplicably lost.

Not only is Logan a major hunk and Glenny - the kind of friend everyone needs; this book is an engaging read with spooky elements, thrilling scenes, and enough drama to get anyone's blood boiling. I personally loved the way the author sets the scene for the characters and spirits (or demons?) to run amuck on the pages. The descriptions are so compelling that I felt like I was right there in the scene more than once throughout the novel.

The relationship that Glenny has with the other-world felt like it was accurately fleshed out - my Hispanic mother, aunt, and grandmother have all had spiritual encounters like Glenny Ramos. After reading Call from the Crossroads, I may be a convert into this genre and will definitely be reading the sequel.

From page 1 of their debut novel Call From the Crossroads, SK Ehra wastes no time in delving into the supernatural nature of the book’s central conflict. Driving through rural Texas, Logan is compelled to pull over by someone from beyond the grave which leads him to discover her decomposing body left in the desert. Logan works to bring the murderer to justice in the hopes that this will allow the woman to move on. Call From the Crossroads is an engaging read built on the foundation of flawed but very human characters.
The early chapters are spent on establishing where Logan is at mentally and emotionally following the loss of his wife and his discharge from a mental institute. Logan has had the ability to hear the voices of the dead since his return from combat in Afghanistan, an ability that has in part taken its toll on his relationships, his career, and his wellbeing. The book is interspersed with moments from Logan’s life prior to the start of this story. They are particularly powerful juxtaposed with the events currently happening in the story and highlight Logan’s sense of loss, his motivations and the role that providence plays in his life thematically. The recurring presence of a dark and unknown force of evil hints at a larger, overarching conflict to come that Logan seems destined to take part in. Without spoiling anything, Logan’s arc revolves around loss, sacrifice, and service to the greater good.
While Logan is a compelling and likable character in his own right, Glenny the impulsive, talkative, and very pregnant young woman with a rebellious past is sure to make an endearing impression on readers. It would be a mistake to write Glenny off as a helpless damsel in distress side character. She is a fully fleshed out character with a different but essential part to play in the central conflict. Introduced about a quarter of the way through the book, she serves as a foil to the much more jaded Logan. Once Glenny is introduced, the book picks up the pace and truly hits its stride. Her interactions with Logan brings much needed moments of levity to the story but also serve to raise the stakes. Their dialogue is well-done and never comes across as overly and unrealistically quippy.
Call From the Crossroads is a suspenseful and thrilling read peppered with both humorous and emotional moments. It is a tonal balancing act masterfully done and built on a solid foundation of compelling characters. I look forward to the next offering in the series.

This was a page turner for me. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author. It won’t be the last especially since this is slated to be a series. The plot was truly different and had me hooked from the very beginning. Yes, there were still some u answered questions at the end. I hope we get those answers in the coming book. I loved Logan despite his quirks. Glenny was hilarious and a little irritating with all her talking but still loved her. They make a great team! The storyline flowed smoothly throughout and was well developed. I can’t wait for book two!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.

Call From the Crossroads follows Logan, a man recently released from a psychiatric hospital who can hear the dead, as he gets stuck in a small town in Texas chasing the ghost of a young woman and desperately trying to figure out what she wants him to know about her murder.
This book was very interesting and very well written. It did start slow in my opinion and it took me a while to get into it, but once I did I couldn't put it down and ended up reading the bulk of the book in one day. It's very fast paced; it all takes place over the course of 2 or 3 days, which honestly didn't feel very believable given how much happens, but I did like that it didn't drag out too much. My only real complaint is that there were questions left unanswered about some things that happened in Logan's past and how they relate to his ability to hear the dead, but since this book is the first in a planned series, I hope those questions will be answered in the next book and I look forward to reading it when it comes out!
Note: I was sent an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Really enjoyed this story!

This story has a very fresh take on the supernatural and the way it can interact with a human medium. "Call from the Crossroads" paints a wonderful tapestry and study of ongoing mental health and the struggles consistent with battling through them. The research and study put into believable characters and circumstances are evident throughout the prose.

The relationships in this novel are also well-cultivated, believable, and down-to-earth which allows the reader to immerse themselves into the narrative quickly and easily.

All that keeps this from a five-star for me is the pacing. There are points in the story where it does feel somewhat 'rambly' and I feel the narration loses track of its place in the story. I would also caution lovers of mystery that this is more of a horror/paranormal story than it is a mystery. The 'solving' of the mystery is less the narrative focus and the struggles of Logan battling his supernatural demons tend to take center stage at most times.

All in all, great story, there are five books planned, and those who love supernatural/paranormal drama, and murder/mystery should all find something to love from SK Ehra.

Crossroads is an odd one for me. On one hand, I really liked it, on the other, I honestly don’t have a lot to say about it. The characters were well realized and interesting. They had deep well thought out backgrounds, personalities, and relationships with each other. The paranormal part was interesting. The mystery was a little weak, but this was the first book where the main character is getting his feet under him, so he is stumbling around a bit, so this is mostly about introducing him and getting him comfortable in his powers and his new lot in life.

Logan as a character is constantly stuck between madness, trying to do the right thing, and a radio trying to boss him around, and as such has a compelling story pushing him forward.

Overall, this was interesting, but it was just missing that little bit that would really hook me. Still, I would be interested in reading the second book if there ever is one just to see where it goes.

Could not put this book down!

Suspense and horror all in one story! Like a Hitchcock movie. There aren't too many books I'd like to see made into a movie but this is definitely one of them! Can't wait to read more from this author.

Readers of Dean Koontz will love this book. It’s a page turner, with a rapidly moving plot, creative use of language, and distinct, well-developed characters. Glad to know this is a series because I look forward to seeing more from Logan and Glenny.

A man with the ability to hear the dead - of course, presumed crazy - is called to investigate the murder of a girl by the murdered girl herself.

My favourite read of the month. The characters are fun and relatable, the plot is well-paced, and the descriptions of locations and settings are vibrant. The narrator was amusing without trying too hard, and action scenes were fast-paced but still clear.

I also like the twist on the most common mystery trope; the killer is obvious from the page he's introduced, since the ghost of the woman he killed leads our protagonist directly to him. The tension of the story is less 'whodunnit' and more 'howyagonprovit' (how are you gonna prove it).

I would recommend this book to people who enjoyed the early seasons of Supernatural; a spooky adventure with an amusing protagonist and satisfying action. 5/5.

Beautifully written! Descriptions written like poetry. This story grabs you from the get go and has you on the edge of your seat. You will want to read Book2 in the series as well. A real page turner. Logan, the main character is released from a psych hospital but he is not crazy, he is hounded by the dead!

This is yet another one of the books that I planned to read in increments while up with my baby but ended up staying awake to finish despite my need for sleep. A great entry into both the mismatched partner and the supernatural thriller genre, this has elements of what I enjoyed about Odd Thomas, the Iron Druid Chronicles, and Rizzoli and Isles. The progressive unfurling of the mystery, the main character's backstory, and the satisfying ending all make this a fun read. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Haunted car radios, a dead girl's ghost, a serial killer, and unknown but still darker forces descend on a small Texas town and an Afghan War vet. The latest victim's insistent ghost appeals for Logan's aid. Logan's a great protagonist, wounded in more ways than one and struggling to help others while struggling with his own problems. The plot picks up speed quickly and from the moment Glenny appears on scene the pace and tension increase with each page.

If you liked "Odd Thomas" you'll really like Call from the Crossroads.

“Come. Here. Here.”
Sometimes I hear them. Other times I hear what they heard.

The dead are supposed to be silent, silent as the grave, the saying goes. But not for Logan. He is haunted by their voices and can’t escape them. To stop the voices he repeatedly hears, he will have to figure out what they want. Now, if only they would speak clearly…

This is the first book in a series of psychic thrillers by the author, and I really enjoyed reading it. Logan is haunted by the voice of a murdered young girl, and after finding her body, she will not leave him alone. He meets Glenny, her eighteen-year-old, very pregnant roommate, who also hears and sees more than other people do and does not stop talking. Ex-military, he sets out to quiet the voice, finding out what happened to her.

I liked Logan’s sarcastic humour, and the author did an excellent job of making me hear the girl’s voice as it gets more urgent, and Glenny’s voice, who is someone who hardly takes a breath between words. I felt for Logan with his losses, everyone thinking he is losing his mind and his struggles to understand what the other side wants. The girl’s voice does become annoying at a stage (that may or may not be intentional…), and some of the story was a little predictable, but all in all, it was a good story, and I’ll be reading the next installment right after this.

Logan hears ghosts. The trouble is getting them to shut up. Or to say something useful. Unfortunately for Logan's sanity, all they seem to be able to do is repeat the last words they heard. Their own, or someone else's. Now something more sinister is stalking him.
Logan was a broken man, even before the ghost of a murdered girl decided to harass him until he helps her. He is jaded, cynical, pessimistic, and can't quite convince himself to stop doing the right thing.
This thriller by S.K. Ehra has poetic, moody prose, vibrant characters, and steady tension that pulled me from one chapter to the next.
Also, it's the first in an unfinished series, but the story stands on its own. No cliffhanger. I look forward to reading book 2, and will buy the rest the moment they come out.

I met this author at a comic convention, and she was very sweet. I picked up two of her books, this being one of them. Honestly, when I started reading, it felt like there was too much description of everything going on. Too many adjectives and unnecessary words. That’s only for the first 20-50 pages though, and after that it’s a fun and quick read. I should Clarify, I am an adult and this felt like more of a teen read, but it was still enjoyable. I do believe this was one of her first novels so can’t wait to dig into the second book I purchased.

Hats off to our short spooky king! This was a fast read that delivered the spooks, the scares and likable characters. Had some moments that gave me anxiety (thank you entity) and some moments that felt like a good ole fashioned crime thriller. The case itself moved a little fast and lacked in any deeper implications but that was sacrificed to delve deeper into the protagonist. Will read the second book.

I loved S.K Ehra's book Minu and wanted to give another of their books a try. This book was great, slow at the start but as soon as Glenny showed up it got real good. Then once Logan figured out who had murdered Silvia the book didn't stop and I couldn't put it down. It made my adrenaline pump all the way to the end. I can't wait to pick up the next book soon!

Paranormal ghost story; ghost's repetitive calling is annoying but fits into story well. Logan is a vet and has learned to take a punch but also suffers from PTSD. A Deeper evil mystery is left for future books in series... Purchased this edition on November 10, 2023, from Amazon for free.
