A super-secret government program, Project Eve, is ready to open its Earth-based Colony Eden and needs its first recruits. The Colony only accepts women who have the "Eve" gene, and only some women of African descent possess it. Aliens from a distant galaxy have signed an agreement with humans, making Project Eve also tasked with pairing an alien with one of its recruits. New couples, despite the challenges, are required to build lives together in the colony.
In this first book of Project Olivia "Liv" Thorne is a woman with a dark past down on her luck who finds herself invited to participate in the second cohort of recruits at the hidden Alien/Human colony, Eden. She gets paired with an alien from the planet Phaestion. This novel originally appeared on the serial platform Kindle Vella.
This one was not for me at all. Now, I’m a huge fan of paranormal romance, so I was so excited to read this one. I felt so let down with the writing. From the lack of descriptions, cheesy dialogue, and choppy story telling, it was a chore to get through. There’s nothing in me that makes me want to continue this series.
I’m assuming this book is the authors first book due to the lack of world building and other issues. However, it was still a pretty good read. I can see the potential in this author’s writing. I hope she keeps going with this series because Id like to see what happens next.
I do recommend you give this book and author a try. I bet the next book will be even better
I’ve never read an alien romance but this one was good! I loved how everything was explained. Oseer and Olivia were too cute. As an alien he still gave BDE and put his ex in her place. The story was funny and just gave. It would’ve been 5 ⭐️ if one part didn’t throw me off from reading. But this book was delicious and made me want to know more about the Eve gene.
I really wanted to like this, but there wasn't enough worldbuilding for me. In an alien romance, I like to have a prologue or some explanation in the first couple of chapters explaining Earth's relationship with other planets and why the aliens are on Earth looking for human mates. I didn't get enough of that in this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this captivating story centered around Olivia (Liv), a woman struggling with her difficult life, including the need to hide from an abusive ex. Just when she feels trapped, she’s unexpectedly visited by government officials who invite her to join a top-secret program. This initiative aims to recruit women with the rare 'Eve' gene to live in a clandestine colony, where they will be paired with alien partners as part of an extraordinary new chapter in their lives. Liv is matched with Oseer, a strikingly handsome alien whose previous match didn’t work out.
I loved how the story seamlessly blends creativity with sensuality—the spicy scenes are perfectly executed and add a delightful spark. What I appreciated most is Liv’s cautious nature; she doesn’t fall for Oseer too quickly, making her journey of trust and connection feel genuine and compelling. This book was an engaging and fun read, full of intrigue and romance. I’m already looking forward to diving into the next installment in the series!
A pretty good read. I appreciate the straight to the point approach at the beginning of the story. The narration was good but a male narrator would have been a great addition to the female narrator.
If you’re looking for a quick read and you enjoy science fiction or black female leads. You will enjoy this story.
I dont usually leave reviews but this story was just soooo bad. It didnt make sense. First, The concept of the story is good but the heroine in the stoey accepting the colony situation so easily did not make sense.
Love alien romance and discover Eva O'Hare's 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘌𝘷𝘦: 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘺 series. Debra Parker, Project Eve's recruiter, presents Olivia 'Liz' Throne with an opportunity, but she is skeptical and refuses it. Until that decision is made for her. Since the first cohort, Oseer has been a part of Project Eve and now he is about to meet his second partner. His initial pairing was not successful. In Oseer's culture, the couple is required to mate during the first week of their marriage, and Liv and Oseer were married the minute she entered the colony. As Liv and Oseer start to learn about each other, complications arise due to Oseer's initial relationship with Regina, Olivia's ex-husband, Augustine.
From my perspective, this is a good start and I intend to continue with this series. I am thrilled that the author has made it available on Kindle Unlimited.
It's tough to find good sci-fi starring a black heroine. This concept is really interesting. I will say, I really want black authors to expand their ideas about black women. Every black heroine does not need to be DV survivor. This background is used so much its become a trope. The same with black women having to come from dysfunctional or nonexistent families. Part of my annoyance with these things is that it's used to explain why this woman is insecure & downtrodden. Enough!! There's this phenomenon among black women authors where the girl on the cover looks nothing like how she's described in the book. Yall play the "unattractive black girl" trope too much as well. It's basically the same characters being written over & over. It's boring & predictable. Sadly Olivia falls into this category.
I like the premise of this story - the “Eve” gene and project Eden. There is not a whole lot of explanation yet as to how Earth got this all going but I suspect it will get revealed as the series goes on.
I wasn't thrilled with how the MFC’s abusive relationship got handled. She got away from him but then the colony made her go confront him. Why? The US government can't handle one bully batterer? Their best response is to re-traumatize the survivor?
“This is a chance for Olivia to face her demons. She’ll be a much better person and partner for you if she can stand up to that man once and for all.”
I'm also not clear she would have survived the showdown. So many women get killed by their abusers. This statement seemed to oversimplify the usual pattern that abuse takes.
This interaction was hilarious - this is between the MMC of this book and who I think is the MMC of the next book.
“What do you have that I don’t have? Take out your cock. Let’s see who has the biggest.”
The sheer directness of it does a great job of pointing fun at the usual covert competition that is baked into so much of our patriarchal society.
3.25 Stars (BW/ Blue Gilled Alien). I listened to this Audible audiobook narrated by Trei Taylor at 1.70 speed.
Setting: Furistic Earth. Minneapolis MN and a secret government colony in a desert 3:30 hours from Minneapolis MN.
Trope: Alien romance
Main characters: 1. Olivia "Liv" Thorne, heroine, Black human female with the Eve gene. Olivia is trying to escape her cheating physically and emotionally abusive husband. 2. Oseer, hero, a handsome blue gilled alien from the planet Phaestion. Oseer and other aliens whose female population is diminishing are on Earth to mate with human woman to avoid their species becoming extinct. 3. Debra Parker & Gemma Washington are the recruiters, coordinators and mediators for the inhabitants of this colony. 4. Augustine, Olivia's estranged abusive husband 5. Regina, Oseer's former failed pairing who still wants to be with him.
This is an interesting yet predictable story. After some interference and drama from both their exes, Olivia and Oseer settle into an accepting and loving marriage with children.
The relationship between Oseer, the alien, and Olivia was beautiful. I wad intrigued by Olivia's relationship with her ex, Augustine, and their toxic relationship. I loved her journey to growing stronger as a person through her love of Oseer.
What I didn't love so much was the world building. I got nothing from this secret base that the government had built to start this alien society. We got very little info from Oseer's world and what he left behind.
I think that this story had the potential to be a really good story with more world building and some small exploration of why these women in particular were genetically superior to be mates with these aliens, and what the government's intentions are with their offspring.
So this book wasn’t terrible I’ve read worst and it’s an interesting concept but there really is zero world building and they are together for like 3 days and are magically in love, also the characters are not that interesting. The worst part really is it was kind of boring. But the one thing that bothered me the most was Olivia’s ex. How did this man find her in another state with no kind of digital or paper trail. At most he saw her get in a car that’s it he didn’t see who she left with couldn’t have followed and yet he knows she is part of some secret government program? How? It’s makes no sense that he could get anywhere near finding her. Since this was the first book I am kind of curious of the next is better so maybe I’ll get around to it at some point.
Olivia is living a shadow of a life haunted by her abusive husband. She initially declined a chance to be a part of Project Eve. But now after being saved by the recruiter from her she is forced to join the project. Little does she know it's an alien mating colony and she's been prematched to Oseer. The problem is her past and trust issues, his past with a determined ex, and the Phastinian 7 day mating trial. Can they work through the trial while dealing with all the obstacles their pasts throw at them and find true happiness. Great story that focuses on healing and confronting your fears.
This sounded so good to me from the blurb but unfortunately there is more detail in the blurb than we actually get in the book. If you're just looking for a forced proximity horny tension book then maybe you'll enjoy, but we learn nothing about the experiment, why it's happening, why it's needed, who's funding it, what the intended result is, etc. There's zero world building within the book. If I hadn't read the blurb I would know nothing about what's happening. The writing is choppy and needed a serious edit - part of this may be because it started as a kindle vella story but there's very little flow and a crap ton of grammatical errors.
Olivia Thorne needs an escape, and Project Eve gives it to her. Oseer needs a mate, and Project Eves provides. Can they keep their pasts from getting in the way?
This was probably the best series opener that I’ve read from Eva O’Hare to date. We got some insight about Project Eve, a little bit of drama, AND a good story. I felt fully invested invested in this couple.
If you like escaping terrible pasts, shady government programs, and a teensy bit of drama, this is for you.
So this was a decent read. I would have to say my only complaints would be the physical details of the people mentioned in the book especially the main characters. All I got was a tall blue fish looking man and a thick black woman from this story. Other than that I like where this series is heading.
Olivia is approached by a government will agent who would like her to enter a special project because Olivia has the Eve gene. Olivia is very hesitant until her brutal husband finds her and threatens more physical abuse. She is saved and hustled off to meet her Alien match.
Enjoyed. Quick easy read. A touch of excitement in the storyline. The details of character features is light, the focus in on the budding relationship. They do go from zero to 50 pretty quick, but still a nice story. This is not a big world building story as they it happens on earth in suburbia hidden in a dome.
I think it was meant to be diffrent. With the audible it was so nice to hear my voice reflected. But the story line fell weak to me. Im just glad I didn't constantly have to read queen this and queen that. I will continue to search for an black author with feeling and authentic
This was a good read and I’m happy she got her HEA. There are a lot of things that people go through in relationships, some can break you down so much that you feel like you can’t get back up. Know that you have to in order to keep them from winning and stealing your joy!!!!! Very good.
Sooo...this series intro is ok. Oseer is refreshingly honest. Olivia spent too much time being a doormat before leaving her previous relationship but I know it happens and she did eventually grow and get out. Too many sex scenes for me. But not too many typos. Interested in finding out more about the program & colony so onto book 2.
I enjoyed not only the plot but the characters, Olivia and Oseer. Their courting is unusual as both bring their own issues to the relationship. But they do manage to work it out. I was pleased that Olivia dealt with her own issues without Oseer having to rescue her or help her. She had to learn to be independent. Good read.
The storylines, the world building, the dialogues were lacking ... The characters were annoying/dumb/flaky. It could be an interesting book but it'd have to be reworked. Now I know this is petty but the mint ice cream make out scene turned me all the way off (worst flavor ever). It was a struggle for me to keep reading after that because I was so grossed out.
After rejecting, then running for her life, Olivia, accepts a life she never thought was possible. Not only does she find a new life, but a love she never thought existed.
Oseer, alien from another planet, never thought he would meet the love he was seeking until he meets Olivia.
The chemistry was off. The characters weren’t clearly defined. I didn’t know their personalities. Every other line was a contradiction, and I wasn’t sure if the FMC was a teenager or not. She spoke and acted like a child but without clear motivation. Going to skip and see if second book has better plot and character development.
FMC is kind of annoying. VERY LITTLE world building. Things really just happen?? and we just have to go with it blindly. FMC gets wayyy to used to the whole idea of everything too quickly for how adamant she was previously. That will never sit right with me. Very confused on how the ratings on this are so high.
This book wasn't what I was expecting I enjoyed it a lot but I would like the ended had a lot more to it... What I recommend this book to other people who read Yes.💐
This is a relatively short romance. The main female character has experienced domestic violence. Read the warning at the beginning and if you are okay after that, you should be fine.
I thought it was very good. Very minor spelling errors. The story is very interesting. After reading so many shifter and mafia books, this definitely was a gem of a find. Aliens and black women need to be a thing in real life... Lol but these aliens.
