I love this series, this book, and I was glad to jump right back into Alexandria, Elwin, Kylo, and Lucian’s story. And man what a start!
The story is amazing, with all the ups and downs, the relationships growing, and Alexandria getting stronger and more confident. I admire her. The heat in this book, oh man was that great!!! And the friendship with the girls, I love them.
RL is such a great writer, I love her world building, and how the story comes together. I always look forward to her books and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
The transition from book 1 to book 2 as well as the character discovery felt very forced. As if the author has 2 separate ideas and then decided to just join them into a single book. There is also SO MUCH inner dialogue and thought from the main character that it just almost comes off preachy and cliche in her self discovery. She went a jaded outcast, to suddenly all trusting and introspective in the span of days. The development seemed so forced as well as the concept/plot, I had to stop reading this trilogy.
Pace was slow and too much inner monologue. 70% of the way through and the plot was no further than the first book.
A lot of telling and not showing, and the consistent use of pet names took me out of the story. I think majority of the book was the MC talking to herself about the dynamics between her and her men—which again was a lot of telling—and talking herself in and out of self doubt.
If you haven't started reading these books, starring four different girls in the same shared world, this is the perfect moment to do so. The sequels to all the first books are slowly being released and it's clear that we're gonna get some answers! I was really looking forward to returning to this world, to the academy and to all the girls. I was therefore really glad that I got an arc from the author so I could read on release day!
This book picks up right where the first one left. It has to, since the first one ended with quite a cliffhanger. And within a chapter we already get some much needed answers. At that point it are guesses, but then our characters are diving into everything and slowly we're getting more and more answers, more and more information. And the more we learned, the more excited I got. It's clear that the mythology behind this one is AMAZING!
However, it's also clear that our heroine has some growing to do. And I love that we get to see that growth and I love that this growth isn't easy. Sometimes she takes three steps forward and then she is forced to take one step back. And I love that because it feels so realistic. That's how growth works. You're not getting better, more secure and stronger every day. At some point you do start doubting yourself again. It's natural and normal.
I still think that the three guys lack a little background. I understand that's partly their nature. They're created. Not born. And for a long time they only had the life their girl let them live and nothing beyond that. However, because of that I personally have some issues really connecting with them, because a part about them does not feel entirely "human". They're amazingly sweet guys, though, and I can't wait to read the next installment in their story!
I’ve read the other series set in this world but this one lacks… I really don’t know if it’s a storyline, pace or character motivation, maybe a bit of all three.
•Overall rating: 3/5. Ok so I shall start with a disclaimer, this was the second series I read for the DIA chronicles and did so immediately after The Blood Oath series. I wasnt overly in love with this series but also wasnt mad at it either. 🤷♀️
So this continues on with Caulders writing style and the other DIA novels; The worlds within this series are derivative but in a good way - I wasnt craving a new author's spin on the classical monsters ie: vampires, witches, wolves and ghouls, I mean, if it aint broke ya know? That being said R L Caulder did a great job at being traditional with these demons/gods but adding her own tid bits in there too.
The series was easy to read, was quick about world building but detailed enough that I could see everywhere and also scattered easter eggs & references to her other books in here that kept me wondering (pre-emptively getting me hooked on all the series... well played Caulder). The idea is that theres different realms for different monsters and what ties them all together for the sake of this plot is an academy that students (21+ so we keep is saucy not icky) can attend to hone their skills... yet they seem to bone more than hone in my opinion *gasps and clutches pearls* 😲
This series, covered the Demon sector and follows Alexandra and her 3 mates: Lucien ❤, Elwin 💚 and Kylo 💙.
I struggled initially with the beginning of this book and the merging of realities - I kept wondering what was real or not and thought it... needless. The fact that Alex had her mates locked in from the get go and they were all in sync from the start was a new mate plot line which was cool.
Identity crisis and conceptions of reality was the key themes in this book however it was all surface level and didnt dive too deep, which made the plot rather bland. The demon powers were basic and didnt invoke a lot of passion for me as a reader - meh! 🤷♀️
The story line was average but did flow reasonably well and I would say, there was less smut and suspense - I wasnt that invested in the plot but it wasnt poor and therefore I finished it.
• Favourite character: ❤ Lucien! The clingy, needy, possessive, touchy and horny mate with blood red eyes, multiple arms, BDE, dark hair, eats wrath and washboard abs. He was so openly codependent with Alex and not ashamed of how much he needed her despite being a violent demon nut case. 🤪
• Hated character: I didnt hate any of the characters because no one ever really built, had a huge arc or have cheeky bants worth noting. Alex's "monsters" apart from being empathy eaters werent all that impressive and I couldnt picture what they looked like except their 4 arms. I did like the new perspective of her mates not being knowledgeable, super rich or powerful as that helped make Alex more of the lead here - 3 puppies vs daddies. 🐶🐶🐶
• Smut vs Plot: Lacking in both I am afraid. Multiple mates usually offers great opportunities smut wise however nothing really happened there. There was maybe one group session and that was super tame. I am 90% sure that she also only had sex with 2 mates as I cannot recall a penny p sessions with Elwin. Lucien had a great character however the other 2 mates bored me to tears - Caulder tried to assigned personality traits to all 3 but 2 fell very flat smut and vibes wise.
• Spice rating (1-5): 🌶🌶 .5
• Reminds me of: hmmm nothing related to this book apart from the other DIA books which I liked that they linked the other ladies in. A nod to the Slut Squad she was in with Deva and her mates. It was nice finding out the missing links from Alina's story too.
• Re-read: Nah, I'm good but happy that I finished it. 🚫
• Pet names: - Alex (I like that she told people not to nick name her up if they arent close) - Angel, Love and Darling - cute but generic. - Babe
• Smut energy: Exhibition kink, Dom & Sub, Voyerisim and good old bondage. 🌮🍆🍆🍆
• Favourite dynamic: shout out to the 3 mates/the bros having a nice dynamic between them and sharing their lady nicely. I also enjoyed how they cared for each other too - knowing how to cormfort one another and be there for Alex as a unit and individually too.
• Favourite quotes/Bants:
" 'You're the sun in my world, Alexandra...I exist to revolve around your gravitational pull' "
"My darling always deserved to come"
"Hopping over Lucien,I squealed as he smacked my ass playfully until I cried out for Kylo to protect me from the vicious monster He gathered me in his arms and booped Lucien on the nose when he got too close, and I devolved into a fit of giggles"

This story starts off right where book one ended. This story really just cemented her relationships with her friends and her guys. We really don't get a whole lot of other development until the end. Elwin, Lucian and Kylo are determined now, more than ever to help Alexandra and devote themselves to her for life and beyond. When we get answers to what Alexandra and her guys really are - the questions come in numbers!
With all four of them learning to hone in on their powers and skills, danger lurks in the shadows. Without knowing who to really trust, Alexandra can only rely on herself and the guys. But is that the best thing to do? When a fellow student ends up dead, will Alexandra be at fault for not saying something sooner?
Can she really be the embodiment of hope from Pandora's Box!? I am very excited to learn more about Zora, Elias and Casus and what they all will attempt. And what is Helen's deal? I'm really looking forward to book three. How is this all going to play out and I have a feeling we will be thrown a curveball to how this all goes down!
I absolutely love the crossovers from R.L. Caulder's other stories and how the main FMC's are all besties. Those stories are just as good and together I think they make a powerhouse friendship I cant wait to see where she takes it. This book was full of steam and you couldn't help but keep turning the pages.
*Overall 4/5 *Heat? 5/5 *Fast/Med Burn *Multiple first person POV *Ends on mild cliffhanger
Alex's story continues and now we have some ideas on what type of supernatural she could be. Her friendship with Alina is growing stronger and her relationships with her monsters also continue to grow. But there are some people out there watching them and learning about them and their powers in order to harness them for their devious plans.
I just adore Alex's men. Elwin, Kylo and Lucien are just the absolute sweetest guys that make you believe in good, yet sexy, men. They are just so blatantly in love and fawn over her, it's absolutely heartwarming. The steam picked up and we even get a few group scenes!
The story itself, while entertaining, didn't have as much excitement as far as the plot was concerned. I would've liked a little more substance when it came to the plot, but overall I'm definitely not disappointed!
Alexandra (FMC) definitely grows as a character in this 2nd book. Which i think she needed to. Monsters Below kicked off right where the first book ended. Which in turn leads to Alexandra gradually finding out more about who she is and what she has to do. I loved the relationship and how possessively protective the guys - Elwin, Lucien and Kylo were. More so in this book than the first book i thought. The crossover characters that popped up in this book gave more great plot twists. Im loving this series and all of the other books in this universe so much. This was so good i cant wait for the next book
Alright, so this one was a bit of a mixed bag! There were some serious hysterics and a few "why on Earth (or space?) are you doing that?" moments. The story’s still enjoyable, but it felt like it couldn’t decide on a pace. One minute we’re right in the action, and the next, it jumps ahead in big chunks like it’s hitting fast-forward. Talk about a wild ride!
It’s still a decent read, just not quite as fun as the first book. If you’re a fan of the series, it’s worth sticking around, but be ready for a few “what just happened?” moments along the way!
Another great book. I’m completely obsessed with this series and every character in it from all the different books!
This book has a lot of major character growth. Alexandra starts to really figure out who she is and find herself. The guys as well. Then they all come together and surprise surprise it’s hot hot hot.
This book has a ton of spice! Which is loved because all of her monsters are so different so it was nice to see them all let loose and please their woman.
There’s also a lot of action, when the school is attacked you get to see how strong Alexandra and her men really are especially when they’re together.
Alexandra still has a lot of questions about who she is and what she can do, I can’t wait for her to figure them all out.
This book was freak’n awesome!! It starts off right where book 1 ends!! There’s so much growth in the Alex & I absolutely love her character!! I really love how it’s written & is all coming together!! Of course there was a little cliffhanger lol & can’t wait to read the next one to find out more & see what happens next!!
This is such a good series!! Loved it!!💜🖤
“This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review."
We get to learn a bit more about Alexandra's past and her powers, but I think there's a bunch more to learn. She is becoming stronger the more time she spends with her monsters. I really enjoyed the cross-over with the characters from the same world. I am so excited to see what happens next
Alex's story continues and we finally have some answers as to who and what she.. Lucien, Kylo & Elwin are! With danger at every turn; she's unsure of who she can trust. So much happens && I still have quite a few questions... GAH! I cannot wait for book three!
Honestly, I love love love this series, all the interwoven goodness and I love how all the FMC are becoming friends. SO GOOD!
The twist came out of nowhere in book one and I’m so happy that we were able to see some elaboration in book 2. There’s still a lot to unbox (if you know, you know) but the information we are given is pretty intriguing. I feel like there’s even more to be revealed in regards to the twist and I’m wondering if it’s going to have an impact on the other interconnected series.
Like I’ve said in previous reviews of this world, I absolutely love the creativity and flawless execution of the interconnectedness of its stories and characters. Personally, it seems better to read the interconnected series in the order the books are being released, rather than one series at a time. We’re not giving spoilers, but it seems like the stories might flow a little bit better that way.
While I did enjoy this book, I think it was much more character driven than story. I do like seeing the confidence of the FMC grow and how she is connecting with her mates. I think I was just hoping for more revelations and action after the decent sized reveal in book one.
I am loving this universe and I look forward to each new release.
Tjis book is very interesting, we get some answers that we didn't in book One and know more about the villains. It a s a very well built world and with a lot of action to keep us going. The quemistry is very high and the book is compeling.
I did not like this book as much as I did the first one. The first book was a more character driven, fish out of water type story. This book was just a full on chosen one YA fantasy story. If I didn't know that the characters were supposed to be about 20 I would think they were all 15 by how they act (outside of the sex scenes). It just has all the YA clichés and wasn't really presented in a unique or interesting way.
The sex scenes are good and I like that it's a poly relationship.
So why only 2.5 stars? I went strictly off the Goodreads scale which means 2 stars = it was ok and 3 stars = I liked it... and I definitely fell in the middle of thinking it was ok and liking it.
The spice definitely kicks up BIG TIME in book 2, however with that it means there is less room for plot development. I was left feeling like nothing really happened until the last 20% of the book. Personally, I am more invested in the story over the spice (which is honestly well-written so no issues there)... therefore it's only normal that I wouldn't enjoy book 2 as much as book 1.
The first 10% of the book is a LOT of inner monologue from Alexandra reeling from what happened in the last few pages of book 1, and when you think about it, 10% of the book is quite a lot to come to terms with something that occurred so quickly in the previous book.
I will absolutely be reading book 3 and look forward to continuing with Alex's story.
#couplegoals Alexandra and her monsters face adversity and grow as individuals, as well as a group. This book picked up immediately after the fantastic book 1 ending. The complexity of the storyline kept me enthralled and I read it in one sitting. I love how the author included characters from the sister books in the Dark Imaginarium Academy universe.
Some of the questions are slowly getting answered. The story is good, but I don't feel like I'm sucked into it. I feel like for it being so short, you would expect more to be happening a lot faster than what it is. Which means everything is going to happen in book 3 and as it is right now, I don't see how this could be resolved without being rushed. Book 1 and 2 felt so drawn out and left so much open that it feels impossible to finish it so soon. But we will see how it goes.
Finding out what she is came as a huge ass surprise. I was like WTH. How can a curse be a person? But I guess it makes sense (War, Pestilence, Famine etc are all made into people, so I Get it :D ) But like ... was she born? Was she made? Why is she just now coming out? Why did she only get her powers and was able to free her men when she turned 21? Was there a block on her magic ? ( I don't think so since she had been causing every one around her to act their worst AND she was able to create her men in that world - so obviously she was unknowingly releasing magic her whole life so why couldn't she control her full magic? )
Her leaving to fight the other curses without knowing how to control her full magic seems ridiculous. Elias even said she came at him with only a fraction of her power. So like... what does she expect to happen???? Why hasn't she told what's her face about Helen's involvement? Obviously Helen is the one letting the curses into the school. I know she doesn't want to involve anyone else that this is 'her battle' but still, she needs to learn to accept help from others. Who knows what could be done to help her. I don't think she is ready for this upcoming battle mentally or physically.
I thought there would be more spice in this. I think it was around 36% when something finally happened. They finally had a group scene and it was only one - but it still focused on just one of the guys in my opinion. It didn't really feel like all 3 were involved. IDK. Just felt like it could've been more. I get it was her first time so not much could be done. But they are magical beings ... she can take all 3 gah! hahaha When Lucien fucked her up against the glass door while Elwin watched .... ooooooooh baby that was some good stuff. Hotttt. I really like how the brother's just accepted Elwin's control thing in the bedroom.
I'm ready to see how this ends. :D
Spice 1/5 Humor 2/5 Emotional 0/5 World Building 3.5/5 Overall 4/5
This book picks up right after book one (thank god because cliffhanger). We find out Alexandra was released from Pandora's box 21 years ago.
She is hope, and her purpose is to save the world from the curses (the seven deadly sins) that were released from the box before her. She has absorbed the power of the box, which is what allows her to create.
I will say that I was hoping for a liiiiiittle more plot excitement in this book, but it was still good. And the SPICE was definitely not missing in any way!! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.
I hope we get a bit more depth in book three; it does seems like we will from the ending of this book. I especially would like to see some more personality divisions and individual development from Kylo, Lucian and Elwyn. I want them to flesh out a bit more - they're real beings now, not just Alex's stories anymore.
I am really enjoying having R L Caulder weave Alexandra and Alina's (Oath of Betrayal) stories together throughout both of their books. They are both very different characters, and I love reading both series.
I am NEEDING book three of this series urgently. I am foreseeing a major magic battle, a strong injury to a mate and a spicy ass foursome scene in the final book. Am I right? 🤷♀️
*SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW*
We find out why Alexandria's human life was so sad, and why she could never find love and affection (😭).
Because she is hope, and has such pure magic, the evil in the world influences this to make it so her hope brings out the worst traits in everyone around her. Magical beings are taught to have mental barriers up against other powers, but humans are not.
There are also three evil beings out there, who are the opposite of her light and good mates. And the teacher Helen seems pretty dodgy too. She says:
“If this is the best you can do, you don’t stand a chance against Zora, Elias, and Casus. They will come, Alexandra, and when bodies begin to drop, know that it’s because of you and your inability to stop them. You will fail, just like you always have.”
We meet Elias at the end of the book, and Alex notices that her light magic is able to damage him, but he is much more powerful than her. How is she going to fight Elias, Zora and Casus all at once?
R.L. Caulder has released her second book in the Monsters We Crave series. Monsters Below was freaking awesome, I completely devoured it. Magic classes, bullies being put in their place, mythology, and friendships steadily growing stronger all made for an excellent read.
Alex grew so much in the first book and has grown even more so in this book. She went from being alone to having people care about her. From wanting to blend in to not caring about people's opinions. Alex is getting a handle on her powers, has clues to what she may be, and is owning her destiny. Things aren't easy and there were a couple emotional moments but Alex is stronger and more determined than ever. The reason behind Alex's strength is because of all the support she has. The guys are there with her every step of the way supportive and helpful. They aren't afraid of telling her their feelings and she's open with them in return, they have to be soulmates for more reasons than one.
The other support that Alex has comes from some of the figureheads in the Academy and from her best friend Alora who is super sweet (I am so waiting on her book but I don't think there will be one) and behind Alex every way a friend should as well as Alina from the Blood Oath series. Alina had her moment in Herr and her friendship with Alex was quick and is steadily growing, they are more alike than different and both could use the friend support.
I loved getting to see more of the classes and how Alex's and the guys' powers work, separately as well as together. They have a clue about what they are and talk about plot twist. There is a lot more to Alex and the guys than it originally seemed, plus there are new enemies that have pretty much declared war and they have an unexpected ally who can only cause more problems.
Monsters Below were great and it's just the second book in Alex's story. The story ended on a semi-cliffhanger that poses a lot of questions. I have no idea how many books will be in this series but I'm ready for them. The next book up is Monsters Above and I wonder what new problem Alex and the guys will run into next.
Monsters Below is book two in R.L. Caulder’s The Creatures We Crave series – part of the Dark Imaginarium Academy world. Rue and her monsters are back for more with this novel as the Curses are coming for her and secrets re being revealed. They’re just going to need to be a little quicker on the uptake though if they’re going to make it through all of this. The pieces are falling together for Rue to discover who she truly is and the same goes for her monsters. Self doubt will creep in, but what’s a little anger and sex to help rebalance things? This book has it’s ups and downs. The story is engaging in certain moments, but then it slips away and becomes a bit dull as well. For me, the drama that Lucien creates is getting old. There is a time and place for a lot of his antics and it pushes him into my “least favorite character” category. The author’s intent is to create an “alpha” type character, and while he fits that – it gets taken too far for my liking. There is “alpha” and then there is “alpha jerk.” And he crosses into “alpha jerk” quite a bit. Sorry, I just don’t like it when professors and heads of the academy are disrespected. Steamy element? There is lots of it. I love it, but then it seems that that is all they like to do. While they do focus on the important things they need to, sex does get in the way quite a bit. It’s getting to crunch time, they need to focus and handle up. I wanted more progress in the storyline, but it doesn’t move as much as I would have liked. It feels like the characters are too easily distracted which is disappointing. A lot is riding on their shoulders. I’d like thinks to get a bit more dark than they are. I guess we’ll see what happens in book three. I’m rating this book 4 out of 5 stars.
I loved the multiple povs, it helped me understand who each character was and why they acted the way they did. The plot is very interesting but it is Slow! There’s barely any movement of the true plot. The beginning and the end. There was a ton of filler material, chapters and chapters of sexual scenes, in both their POV’s. It lost my connection that I had with the female main character, don’t get me wrong, a good sex scene is fun to read but I’m not really into BDSM. She was purposely being a Brat, and her punishments aren’t my idea of a fun time. She’s growing in other areas too. I’m glad to read she’s growing as a character, letting go to push her powers. I loved the other DIA characters interacting with this group of main characters. It brought a sense of familiarity to the story. There’s a few other Academy stories in very similar situations these main characters faced, and I was suspecting I was re reading one of those. Since K.U changed the way we see books we previously read. They all look the same, and only if I reviewed it will it tell me I read it before. I’m glad to read I was wrong. The plot is very interesting. This is the entire reason I kept reading. I want to know why they haven’t mentioned their suspicions to Estrid, or anyone outside their group. Seems pretty large secret to carry especially if the schools employees have a double agent. It drove me batty for her to never mention or re think it again. Seems pretty important to me. Since I lost concentration several times while reading due to not feeling a connection with the character I rated this 3 stars.
Craziness Continues! Alex’s monsters are absolutely devoted to her and it’s honestly beautiful to read 😍 “You’re the sun in my world, Alexandra... I exist to revolve around your gravitational pull.” These kind of phrases and letters (IYKYK) are throughout the book and the really melt you!! The 🔥🔥🔥 really builds up in this book as Alex takes the next steps with her men and then boy do they show her their passion!! Lucien is still his crazy possessive self although he’s found new ways to work that out with Alex 😜 Elwin is now more confident in himself and enacts the dominant lead in their 🌶 lives and then Kylo their protective emotional carer who brings the calm in times of need 😄 They truly have to come together as team when revelations are revealed about what Alexandra and her monsters are expected to be (SO EXCITING - SUCH A DIFFERENT TWIST ON THIS MYTHOLOGY!) 😀 but with these revelations comes responsibilities as she maybe the only one who can deal with the curses roaming the realms! This becomes even more pressurised when enemies begins to invade the academy (with some suspected help from within) placing the students in danger 😬😬 can Alexandra and her monsters take this on or is it here no hope?!?! I will say as well I love how R L Caulder deals with emotions / anxiety in these books : “Someone else struggling with something that might seem bigger than what you are personally working through doesn’t make what you’re dealing with or feeling any less valid.” 💜
This book is so amazing, that it makes me never want to leave the DIA world! I love Alexandra, Elwin, Lucian & Kylo. They're such a great group, and I'm so happy that we got to see not only their relationships develop, but they hone their powers and skills more too! We don't get a lot of our questions answered in this book, when we finally learn about what Alexandra and her guys really are we get even more questions!
There's still a lot of mistrust with anyone except their very close group, which I get. But they'll need to learn to add to their group so they can get their happy ever after. I do love that we get the crossovers from the other FMC's in the DIA world. I do hope that we get to see them all come together maybe in one big way?
This book really puts us through our paces with the ups and downs, but it's honestly amazing. RL does an amazing job at making sure we can process everything like Alexandra and her men are. I'm extremely curious about their powers will all come together and be used against their enemies.
What I really was excited with? The steam, no one came to play with that, it was extra steamy and it fit the storyline of them solidifying their relationships.
I can't wait to see it all come together! I love the DIA world, it's truly amazing seeing these characters grow into their powers and see them bloom!
I am so excited to be back in the Dark Imaginarium world! This is one shared universe I can't get enough of! The story picks up right where we left off, where Alex and her guys are finally learning about the mysteries of their past while being threatened. Have I mentioned how OBSESSED I am with the twists of this series? You can really tell how much thought the author has put into the story and world with how well everything fits together. One thing I truly love about this author is that she takes care to bring a different experience with each series. In this one, she slows things down and works on character development. There's still action, and HEAT (I needed a cold shower after one particular chapter!), but we also get a lot more romantic relationship building scenes. And omg did the author pick the perfect harem to do this with. Lucien, Elwin, Kilo and Alex just fit so perfectly together, and watching them leaves me feeling more warm and fuzzy than I'd ever expect from a "monster romance". And that right there is the magic of reading an RL Caulder book, her writing always finds a way to surprise you while keeping you coming back for more.
Monsters Below, the second book in the Creatures We Crave series by RL Caulder was an amazing continuation of Alexandria’s story and another fun dip into the shared universe of the Dark Imaginarium Academy world!
Alexandra, Elwin, Lucian & Kylo are all back again and I loved where this story took us with their development both individually as well as their powers and their relationship too! Their steamy connection was off the charts, and made this one a definite must read for any monster loving fan! And I love all the crossovers from the other DIA stories and getting glimpses back into all the other harems once again. I can’t wait to see where this series takes us and to watch them continue to all grow and really come into their powers! And fingers crossed we see all the groups connect for one last final battle!
This world is quickly becoming one of my top favorites as I love all the detail and thought that RL puts into creating each of these masterpieces—and this one was no exception! The character development and plot flow were perfect, the heat was sizzling and it had just the right amount of twists to draw you right in and keep you hanging till the end. Overall if you love a twist filled monster rh romance—this is the one for you!
I loved the concept of this series: The monsters Alexandra has been writing about for years as an escape have suddenly come to life and turns out they were real this whole time. As the series continued, the execution, however, left something to be desired. I really liked the first book. Caulder did a good job setting up the story and introducing the characters. I liked that the relationships were already established and they loved each other but had to figure out how to be together outside of the fantasy. This is a very fast paced series. That worked for me in book 1 but did not work for me in book 2. Monsters Below takes place over less than 2 weeks and nearly every other day something big happens - a revelation, a confrontation, or a relationship development. There wasn't enough down time for the characters to relax and fully absorb their new reality. Everything Alexandra and the men said was almost too perfect and didn't feel realistic. There is a "not like other girls"/chosen one element to nearly all paranormal reverse harem books and this definitely had it, too. Book 3 comes out at the end of March and I do care enough about the characters to read it.
The lovey dovey words and stuff made we want to roll my eyes and throw up. Sorry, but it was just such overkill. At least it felt like that since again, we didn't see any of their growth or where they came from. Their sexual relationships progressed, and their personalities are evolving, but their emotional relationship is and has been strong. Also, it is such a teenager (yes, I know they are 21+) thing to think they can solve everything themselves and not let anyone know the information that they know. We see more crossover with Alina, which was dope and crazy looking back at the speed. multiple pov 🌶🌶🌶.5 more progression and RH activities
TW: death, childhood trauma
They work on figuring out more about who they are. They suspect that Alexandra is hope from Pandoras box, and she absorbed the box and created the 3 men to counter the curses. She also works on her powers, and they think she pulls out people's bad qualities when she's around. There is an interaction with the professor Helen of Troy, who is a mega bitch and is somehow involved and has information about the curses. Super sus. One of the curses kills another student, and another one confronts them before disappearing. Alexandra is more determined than ever to figure out what is going on and stop them.
