Some Family Trees Should Be Burned. . .

Greer Girls are special. Greer Girls are rare. Greer Girls are central to the secret Order of Belial.

Sophie Greer knows none of this. All she knows is that her now ex-boyfriend cheated on her, she’s alone working in Paris, and her mysterious billionaire boss, Edward Hughes, is way too interested in her life.

But when Sophie is kidnapped in Moscow while on a business trip, she’s plunged into the dark underbelly of the global elite and a sinister secret society with deep ties to her family; ties that lead to revelations darker than anything Sophie could have imagined.

Betrayed by the man who raised her, and targeted by the illustrious Hughes family, only one thing is certain—family history can be deadly. If Sophie is to survive, she must decide who to trust and what to believe, or risk being crushed beneath the weight of the all-powerful secret Order of Belial.

Oh wow, I don't even know where to start with this one. This is my first book by Jennifer (Author) and I believe could be her debut, if that's the case be prepared to be wow'd!

I don't think there are many books which have a little of everything. Yes I'd put this into the more 'mystery/thriller' category. But there's so much more to the book, at times it was like James Bond on acid! I won't talk about the characters or their histories. There is a lot in this book and you need to take it in as Sophie lets the story unfold to really get why she is telling you it all. At times I wondered if we needed so much history, but trust me.. You do.

Fast paced, exciting and at times a tad dark. Sophie is such an interesting character, add to that her family history and what is actually means to be a Greer Girl. This book is one of those where you can't really trust anyone. So much is going on behind the scenes that I questioned so many characters. At times I thought the story would go 'x' way only to be completely thrown overboard! I knew this book would have a 'horror' aspect with ritual sacrifices, but add to that a heavy dose of brainwashing and some sick (No that should be SICK) individuals and you are in for a bumpy, dark ride. Can I also add when it comes to locations, this book has some lovely settings and Jennifer (Author) really detailed those for me!

I read this over several sittings, it wasn't just good. I felt it was great! Cannot wait to see where we go from here that's for sure. A solid 4 stars, Daughter of Belial is available on kindle unlimited, so free if you subscribe.

Oh, this book was so good. I could barely put it down.
I wanted a perfect spooky book for October and boy, did I ever find it.

This was quite the visceral book full of twists, turns and some of the absolutely most disgusting, depraved human beings in existence.

I especially enjoyed Sophie. She was incredibly multifaceted.
On one hand, she was shy and soft. She cared.
On the other, she was hard and calculating.
The fact she would have to make a choice that could be the beginning of a new, darker age or the absolute destruction of the current one made those sides even more prominent.

I have zero complaints except that I have to wait to see where Sophie goes next with this story, haha.

Sophie comes from a family that are a part of secret society and they have plenty of deep rooted secrets. The Greer girls are special and they have a part to play within the Order of Belial. Sophie is truly unaware of this fact and doesn’t discover her family’s secrets until she is kidnapped. She discovers a whole new world that is hidden from the rest of society. An exciting thriller story that keeps the reader guessing and will want to rush to get to the end. A page turner.

this was such a good psychological thriller, it does a great job in telling the story that it wanted. I was hooked from the beginning to end, and it always had a tense atmosphere and it worked so well I'm glad I was able to read this.

I loved this book, and it was intense. I could not stop reading.
The first chapters wrapped me into the thinking process and mind of the heroine, with all her lovely neuroticisms, and then the book picked up speed tremendously in the unfolding of the plot.
There were scenes I found challenging emotionally - the author's words created the scenes very vividly in my mind. The storyline was full of surprises (to me) and layer after layer of insight was revealed. I loved the variety of vocabulary, the depth of the research that obviously went into this book, and the tremendous vulnerability it shows.

A totally mind blowing story of erotica, human sacrifice, torture, brainwashing, etc.etc....as the forces of evil battle for the soul and sanity of an unwilling descendant of Belial's ruling council. Which way will she tip? I doubt even " she " knows as the book ends. You WILL be awaiting the sequel This book must be experienced!

This was such a fun book to read. It is twisted but kept me intrigued till the end. I mean who wouldn't be hooked on a book that takes you to some really dark depths and then shows you even worse things? Trust me you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Thriller? Check. Romance? Check. Adventure? Check. Disturbing? Check.

The fact that this is a debut novel surprises me. The characters and setting were described wonderfully and I felt I knew them personally by the end of the book. There were twists, turns, and unexpected bumps in the road throughout the whole book, and kept my attention.

Note: My rule is to not give a rating for books I did not finish because someday in the future I might pick it up again and change my mind. This one though is one of the exceptions.

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for sharing a copy of this book with me through Netgalley.

Unfortunately, I couldn't finish it (thus shelved as DNF), and before I tell why I want to first share why I requested it in the first place.

Based on the synopsis, it sounded like a good mystery thriller to me with secret societies and possibly a strong female MC. The title was also very intriguing.

So why DNF?

The TWs are triggering and just too dark for me. I've read twisted books alright but the concept of this story is sickening for me. I didn't check the TWs before ordering or even when I started reading this book. It's not also my habit to check out reviews before actually reading the book (unless it's been really hyped then I cannot avoid getting some ideas from #bookstagram), so it's only when I updated my Goodreads that I realized what I'm actually reading.

I still gave it a chance thinking it couldn't be that sickening or psychotic compared to the things I'd read before. And I was wrong. I really thought there was some sort of deliverance for the characters but they just kept worsening with every turn of the page. I needed to stop.

Technically, the writing is okay. Though definitely needs improvement in consistency, especially when shifting to different characters. They all 'sound' the same.

But that's it. Won't recommend it really. I only read half (not including the parts I skipped because it's too twisted, or the characters are just monologuing in their head) and it was already too much for a lifetime.

Also, should have researched the meaning of 'Belial'. That should have given me a bit of idea at least of what I was in for.

Trigger warning - All of your worst nightmare including CSA and ritualistic murder.
I admire the writing and the authors ability to write such heavy and terrible stuff but it was far too realistic for me. I actually believe some of this stuff and that was a bit much.
Honestly, every time I read some of the book it ruined my day. I don't get how this poor girl wasn't placed of adoption or hidden in another way. But the story has to come from somewhere.
Also super super rich people don't work. At all. Ever. So you know that was a clue something wasn't right to begin with. It turns out it is part of their plan to like destroy humans

Beautifully written and absolutely disturbing.

an epic novel that touches on so many facets of Truth many are unwilling to see. it's the kind of book that really goes there, in the proverbial sense. it might be challenging for some to stomach given the nature of the Truth- it's not always pretty to look at... actually sometimes it's quite horrifying, however, it still remains to be True. this book will challenge you, and provoke you in a multitude of ways. grab your seatbelt because surely is one hell of a ride. the cherry on top is the author's compelling writing style- keeps you hungry for more.

This intense, dynamic, and highly paced book—call it a dangerous thriller--is hard to put down as most every page brings another bit of information to the central character caught in a maelstrom of events that the author Jennifer Jevenelle keeps accelerating as the story unfolds. The writing here is exceptional and pulsing as the author brings insights and rich references to most every page while sustaining a unique tension built on near total ambiguity. It is a challenging read that should not be dismissed because of the sensitive subject matter as it is handled by an author who seems to know more than most of the dreadful, disturbing range of human behaviors, and societies. I truly could not put this book down as it is sometimes discordant: strangely playful even as the plot darkened and as the woman at the center seems but a puzzle piece trying to discover her truth in a scattered array of pieces that the author purposefully never fits neatly together until the end. And then it is not the end...but a beginning, an awakening. In some ways there is a Kafkaesque unknowing here as this woman gets pulled toward the center of the web without knowing how, why, and what for? I await the next chapters in a sequel!

This book was a fascinating adventure when you follow everything going on. As you're introduced to Sophie Greer who finds out after she is kidnapped that she is a Greer girl and has a special role to play in the Greer Society, a secret
society.

The story takes on its own life and gets quit dark. Just about when you think it can't get any darker or worst. Well, hold on because it does! It's done tastefully and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The book is fun to read with all of its twists and unpredictable turns, lots of adventure, and coming across being to realistic.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys Financial Thrillers, Native American Literature and International Mystery & Crime books. This book is a page-turner, entertaining, and full of delightful characters so grab yourself a copy of the book, sit down, relax and have yourself a delightful read.

This book left me very much on the fence. I was in the last chapter and still couldn't decide if I liked it or not.

The plot is intriguing - a secret society pulling the strings of the world and a woman at the center of their plans who has no idea the society even exists. Family secrets, kidnapping, and extreme wealth - all the makings of a great story. However, there was some very heavy topics that were explored that made me a bit uncomfortable (I'll say involving children and leave it at that). I'm no stranger to explicit content but this was much different. I will say, the scenes of this content were not graphic as compared to some other areas of the book, but it was still a lot.

That being said, reading the authors note/about the author at the end made me feel better about the book as a whole. If you are intrigued by this book, I would start with that and then read the rest of the book. Still on the fence if I would pick up book two.

OMG, what a tremendous read! I'd tell me wife I'll just read for a couple of minutes and then lights out, and 40 minutes later I'm still reading! Just couldn't put it down. And Jennifer takes you from the heights of ecstasy to the depths of depravity, all on one page! I highly recommend this book, but keep in mind, it'll take you to some very dark places, so be prepared for a roller coaster ride.

Meh. Just didn’t care what happened to the MC. The story circled and there were parts that I found myself thinking “get on with it already”. The story doesn’t finish, it just ends. More questions than answers, but don’t really care what happens next.

This book was horrible. The first half is incredibly boring and then we go from zero to 60 with incest, pedophilia, sexual assault and murdering children. To add insult to injury it’s not even well written.

**Thank you Book Sirens. I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.**

DNF at 41% at chapter 21. I liked the book for its secret society and magic but I found Sophie too annoying to continue. I was grateful for the trigger warnings in the front of the book so I knew what I was getting into. I could have gotten past the characters and how everyone seemed to be written the same way, they didnt have their own personality but I could not get past that Sophie falls in love with men that voilently abuses her and kidnaps her.

the author is not playing around with these trigger warnings. this book, at times, felt like a waking nightmare. i feel bad rating it so lowly because she DID warn me, and this book may serve as catharsis for her, but as a reader, it was entirely too depraved for me to rate any higher.
