First things first – that cover! Can we talk about perfect it is? The colors, the setting, the bike. I want to sit right there on that bench and watch all the goings-on around the small town on Bluestar Island.

Speaking of the town & the island, the setting for Love Blooms adds so much to the overall story. Small town life on an island is not really different than small town life anywhere else, and the author does a great job of conveying the quirks and blessings through the characters and places. Sure, everybody in a small town knows your business, but that also means that you have a built-in cheering section from the people who care about you, and who couldn’t use one of those these days?

While Hannah and Ethan are the main focus of this particular novel, it was Ethan’s Great-Aunt Birdie who gets the ‘favorite character’ distinction. She reminded me a little of my own beloved grandmother, and I found myself smiling whenever we spent time in her point of view. I liked Hannah and Ethan, too, but Aunt Birdie stole the show for me. I also really liked the fire chief.

Ethan is the quintessential swoony firefighter who also must fight his own demons in the form of PTSD from a work-related accident. Hannah has hang-ups about firemen which makes their slow burn romance really slow, even though their mutual attraction is obvious (at least on Ethan’s part) right from their first encounter. I enjoyed the way they helped each other out with their respective ‘looks impossible’ tasks – planning the annual Spring Fling which Ethan’s aunt thrust upon him while she’s in recovery and finishing the restoration on Hannah’s bakery after the flood ruined her previous plans (and took all her money).

Bottom Line: Love Blooms is a sweet, small town romance, set on an East Coast island which gives it an even more quaint tone. Great characters and several cute moments add to the story’s appeal, and readers will definitely want a return visit with all the different people & businesses on Bluestar Island. Hannah and Ethan’s respective struggles are neither glossed over nor allowed to overpower the story, and I appreciated the way the author handled both. Perfect for Hallmark movie fans & readers of sweet romance!

This book was so cute. A perfect Spring romance read, (even though I read it in November) 😉
Such a super clean book with no descriptive content! I doggy eared pages that I loved and highlighted all of the parts and quotes I enjoyed. I will say though, It was a slow burn book, so it took the two main characters some encouragement to be able to tell each other their feelings. But, they shared two kisses, so, that’s a plus!

And always, Happy Reading!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love it when a book captures my attention within the first few pages and that is just what Love Blooms did. Ethan decides to go to Bluestar Island when his mom calls him about his aunt needing help. He has been to the island many times throughout the years and his aunt has been good to him, and after all, he just extended his leave from the fire department after a horrific accident placed him off from work. What can it hurt to go stay at the island for a while? But Ethan wasn’t expecting to meet Hannah there.

In Jennifer Faye’s usual style, she writes another amazing sweet story that will leaving you swooning for quite some time. I love her characters, especially Ethan and Hannah, and the supporting characters make up for a lot of fun in this story. I love Aunt Birdie, even though she is meddlesome! She brings so much fun and humor to the story I am glad Faye thought of creating her. The island is a place I would love to live. Small town, friendly people, the beach anytime you want to go. What’s not to like? If you enjoy a good summer beach read that will keep you laughing and having fun, this is an amazing read for you. Love Blooms by Jennifer Faye gets Five Stars from me!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

I'm always so excited when I hear that Jennifer Faye has a new clean romance coming! Her books always lift my spirits when I'm down, and I know that I'll be smiling when I reach the end. I'm already excited for Love Blooms's follow-up, Harvest Dance! You will be too when you finish this charming romance book.

Love Blooms takes place on a fictional, small island close-ish to Boston called Bluestar Island. Hannah Bell knows all of the locals since she's always lived on the island, and it has been her dream to own a bakery there. I love the setting because living on an island where you know everyone seems like the ideal life for me. Since I've been reading for many years (I started chapter books when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade), I'm sure I've read thousands of books. MANY of them have had island settings. One of the first "island" books I read was Baby Island by Carol Ryrie Brink. I don't know how many times I checked that book out of the library, but it was many. So, yeah, Bluestar Island makes my heart happy.

In addition to the cozy, charming setting, Love Blooms has wonderful, well-written characters that come to life as you read. Hannah, though she wants to be strong and independent, is vulnerable and scared. In other words, she's very realistic. Ethan too has issues that he's got to work through and face. His time on Bluestar Island gives him time to reflect about who he really is and what he wants from life.

I love that Jennifer Faye makes secondary characters important to her stories.  Hannah's best friends, her family, Ethan, his great-aunt, his parents, and the Bluestar Island community as a whole play roles in the book that are relevant to the story. Love Blooms wouldn't be the same without them. There's one side character in particular that I'd love to see the author write a novella about. She's crabby and antagonistic, yet I think she's got a backstory that needs to be told. I'm totally making it up in my head!

Love Blooms moves at just the right pace. The romance isn't rushed, and we get time to really get to know the characters. Since this is only book one in the series, so I'm sure we'll get to know lots more about the residents of this lovely island. I can't wait!

Love Blooms is a book that lovers of sweet, clean romance will love, and I loved it! I think you will too.

Love Blooms was such a wonderful, sweet story. Filled with interesting characters and located in a beautiful setting, I felt so happy while reading this story!

Hannah and Ethan were very likable characters who definitely had great chemistry, first as a friendship developed, and then as romance began to bloom between them. I appreciated the struggles that they were both going through.

They had the immediate problems of getting Hannah’s bakery repaired and finished so it could open for tourist season while also organizing the Spring Fling. They both also struggled with internal issues as well. Ethan had healed physically from an injury as a firefighter, however, emotional healing related to the event was another thing entirely. Hannah had some hurts and worries that she had carried around for the past two years, making it hard for her to give her heart to Ethan.

Both of these characters felt like real people trying to work out real issues. I am definitely looking forward to reading more in this series!

One of the main things I love about small town settings is when great storytelling makes me feel like I’m part of the community. It’s as if I’ve visited Bluestar, fell in love, and didn’t want to leave.

Love Blooms is a sweet romance that is clean, engaging, and satisfying. I love Ethan, Hannah, and the townsfolk. It’s not just the people that make this story come to life, but the town itself. Perhaps because I watch a lot of HGTV and DIY fixer-upper shows, the bakery renovation adds extra spark to this story, and the town festival is delightful.

Ultimately, this is a sweet love story between Ethan and Hannah. Its effortless to feel their chemistry, past heartaches, and mutual love of family. I journeyed along with them, urging them to heal, connect, trust, overcome, and fall in love. Ahh… isn’t that all you can ask for?

Slow moving book

This was a very slow moving book. If you are into that you'll like it. I almost DNF many times and skipped so much text to just keep things moving. Needed more dialogue and less personal reflection that refers to themselves by name.

Romance level: kisses no sex.

I love the cover.

Direct quotes from the book:
ring ring
chime chime
buzz buzz
That was a cell phone ringing (two different times) and a text message coming in. This book needs editing to fix these and other problems.

DNF at page 165.

Love Blooms by Jennifer Faye is the first book in the Bell Family of Bluestar Island series. New York firefighter Ethan Walker was injured on the job. As he prepares to return to work, he gets an urgent call that sends him to Bluestar Island. Hannah Bell has grown up on Bluestar Island and has finally achieved her dream of opening up her own bakery. But her dreams come crashing down when a water pipe breaks and destroys the building. With the island’s sea breeze and warm sunshine, Hannah and Ethan find themselves at turning points in their lives. Does Ethan go back to his job as a firefighter in New York? Will Hannah be able to fix her bakery and finally open it? As they also find themselves drawn to each other, can they find the perfect mix to make both of their dreams come true?
Love Blooms is a sweet small town romance. It is a slow burn clean romance. I mean slow! I was bored after the first chapters. I did not care for the characters. I found Hannah to be immature and unreasonable. While I understand that she is upset at the destruction of her bakery and the set back in its opening; however, I found her reactions to certain situations a little over the top. Ethan was a decent character. There were the standard quirky small town characters. Some were fun and enjoyable while others were cringy and annoying. Overall, it was a decent story but I closed the book feeling underwhelmed. I most likely will not continue the series. While I did not enjoy the story, I know there are readers who probably would. If you enjoy small town romance, I recommend giving Love Blooms a try.

Bluestar Island sounds beautiful. I want to move there - today - and meet all the lovely people there. Hannah and Ethan's story is just the start of getting to know everyone there. I can't wait for the future stories in the series. I was caught up from the very first page and turned the pages as fast as I could read them. I always love anything written by Jennifer Faye - and this did not disappoint.

#BookReview: LOVE BLOOMS (Bluestar Island #1) by Jennifer Faye

I try to read at least one beach read during this time of year. This is a good one as this is set in Bluestar Island, a fictional place in Massachusetts. The weather is warmer on the island now and there are already tourists around.

How do you like the cover? I really like it. I can imagine Hannah riding her grandmother’s pink bike. That bike ride to the farm was scenic. All those tulips must have been so pretty!

Ethan is such a loving nephew to aid her aunt in her time of need. Aunt Birdie is a sweet lady and it’s entertaining how she tries to get Ethan and Hannah together. I like that they are both driven and family oriented. They really worked hard to make the Spring Fling possible. Hannah’s passion for baking is manifested in her goals for her upcoming bakery. I’d love to see her creations. Those blueberry muffins that Ethan loves sound so good! ! I enjoy friendships in books. It’s great that Hannah has good friends in Lily and Josie. The residents of Bluestar like to help each other out. News travels fast too. Very fast. It’s part of the small town charm.

I like that later on, Ethan learned to know and value what’s important in his life. Work will always be there but we also have to spend time with loved ones. I was a bit disheartened with Hannah for pushing Ethan away. But I think their time away gave them a wider perspective of things and sorted out personal issues. If you like a slow burn, clean romance with a cute goat named Dash, this one's for you! 4 stars

Thank you in advance to the author, Jennifer Faye, for providing a complimentary review copy. A positive review was not required or requested, all words are my own.

I have been a fan of Faye’s writing since I read the first book in her Bartolini Legacy series – The Prince and the Wedding Planner. Since then, I’ve that entire series, two of her other Harlequin Romance line books (one from her most recent series – Bound by a Ring and a Secret from her Wedding Bells at Lake Como series), and her Hallmark book – Christmas in Bayberry. As a result, Faye has become one of my “must-read” authors.

To be honest, most of those stories I could dive right in and read right through them. This one was a bit harder than the others to navigate despite the super sweet cover that made me think I was on vacation. The short chapters were a bonus and once I got into the book, I was able to read it for short periods. Overall, I LOVED reading it, however Hannah was a bit tedious to deal with at times.

The first book in the Bluestar Island series focuses on Hannah Bell, a baker who has a few issues in trying to open her bakery; and Ethan Walker, a firefighter recovering from an on-the-job injury that haunts him.

And, sadly, Ethan reminds Hannah of her father who died in a fire. That doesn’t start things off well. His “aunt” Birdie is a real trip though and is trying to push Ethan and Hannah together.

Alternating between Ethan, Hannah, and even Birdie’s POV; Love Blooms reads like one of those Hallmark movies – a sweet, slow (almost non-existent) burn romance that is chock full of realistic experiences, tragedy, and a community feel.

Ethan gets word of his aunt’s fall, and as a result, he’s on Bluestar Island to watch over Peaches. It is there he meets Hannah who is set to open her bakery after some renovations when an accident happens.

Hannah is upset because of the fact that her dream might end before it begins. Luckily, Ethan is there to help until the fire department shows up.

Despite the fact that a flood could’ve been worse, it might bankrupt Hannah to complete it. The insurance will only restore to the point before the flood, not the renovations to OPEN it. That’s pretty understandable. They aren’t in the business for improvement, only restoration/repairs to “pre-accident” condition.

Even the town’s “gossip”, Agnes Dewey gives up on the bakery right away. The bakery will become a contentious point later on during a confrontation with Agnes and Hannah.

Little Nikki has faith in her aunt, but Sam (Hannah’s brother) doesn’t seem so sure. Even the firefighters cheer Hannah on despite her absence around the firehouse since her father’s death.

Ethan offers his services and after checking his references, Hannah accepts his offer. Though she is very reluctant. And, at times her reluctance is off-putting. Something that big couldn’t be done on her own. It wasn’t feasible and it wasn’t affordable either.

Ethan’s aunt Birdie has her own reasons for trying to get back up and running – she’s the organizer for the festival Spring Fling. That is until Ethan offers. It’s clear he is in over his head once he sees the binder – so, he and Hannah switch duties. She’ll organize, he’ll restore. I loved that! It worked perfectly!

But, all isn’t perfect on the island though – Ethan is having nightmares from the accident and all Hannah can do is focus on the bakery. Even Birdie knows something is wrong with Ethan.

The more he’s on the island, the more he begins to rethink heading home, especially when they work together to make sure everything comes together. The island’s healing powers is also helping him.

One big hiccup comes along with a point I thought was sweet. When looking for something to make the bakery unique, they go to an estate sale. When she was outbid for a chandelier, Ethan bid on it. She felt he overstepped as it reminded her of her ex-boyfriend.

That causes a rift between the two which makes their work even more challenging. But, despite that, nearly everyone on the island thinks there is something towards the two. And, that is what Birdie is hoping.

As they work together, Hannah is working against her own anxiety with regard to getting the bakery open on time. It was almost a constant theme with her. And, I understood – only to a point. Ethan is beginning to re-think his career and if he’d ever be ready to go out on another call. He doesn’t want to disappoint his father.

Despite the issues I had with Hannah, I really did love this book! Love Blooms truly has that small-town feel that makes it the perfect summer and beach-read despite the realistic, tragic, and honest stories. It is clear to see how much the tragedies that befall firefighters affect their family, as well as themselves. Some families are proud despite loss, some get re-involved with a firefighter, and some have lingering anger.

It was interesting to see Hannah and her mother have a different take on dating a firefighter, the biggest problem Hannah has with Ethan. And, Faye heightens the fear and anxiety with a vivid description of a fire that Ethan responds to on the island. Readers see both Ethan’s calling and Hannah’s fear mixed in.

Ethan was the standout star for me. As was Hannah’s niece Nikki. She is such a cutie, but I definitely wanted more of Dash’s antics. Baby goats and kids? What’s not to like?

Being the first book, this easily stands on its own. However, readers will want to return to Bluestar Island to read Sam’s story though which seems to get set up in chapter 21. I’m also wondering if their sister Em will get a story as well. I’m hoping to learn more of what Agnes’ problem with Hannah is as there is definitely a history, especially with the way the woman confronts her regarding the bakery.

This, much like like Faye’s Harlequin Romance stories, is an overall clean read. There is no foul language. There are no real intimate scenes either, in fact the romance between Hannah and Ethan doesn’t pick up until the last of the novel – almost the last few pages.

There are no references to God or faith so those looking for a romance without those elements will find it in this book.

There were a few typos – one notable was Chief Campbell. At one point he is referred to as Chief, Captain, then Chief. The typos didn’t detract too much from the story, but certainly made it a tad confusing as to what was going on.

Fans of the author and genre will likely enjoy this read.

Love Blooms by Jennifer Faye has so many of the elements I love about small town romance. A well-running rumor mill? Check. A tight-knit community? Check. A hero and heroine you cheer for getting to together? Check, check, and check.

Hannah is sweet and caring and you can’t help but want all the good things for her. I even understood her propensity to not want to accept help from others. Ethan is a good match for her as he somehow slips under her determination to do everything herself while both encouraging her and challenging her to see herself as others do.

While the plot is somewhat predictable (but really, contemporary romance has a formula or Hallmark movies wouldn’t so popular, right?), the island of Bluestar captivated me with its charm, residents, and gorgeous views. Who wouldn’t want to live there…or at least visit?

And I’m very curious to see who will get their HEA in the next book in the series because there are so many characters I’m rooting for already. If you’re looking for a quick summer read you can escape into, look no further.

This book really had a lot of emotions but no real passion.
Ethan was a firefighter recovering from workplace injury ( not really brought up in detail enough for me)
I really like the fact that family meant so much to the both of them, it was lovely to see Ethan’s care for his aunt.
I enjoyed the fact that the town still has a wonderful festival and come together to have so much fun. ( brought back memories from my childhood)
I unfortunately I found Hannah to be a bit boring and miserable tho I did like Ethan’s character
I would have read more as the series could have been sweet to read, reading more about Bluestar Island. However the ending was sorely disappointing for me, it would be suitable for teens to read as it’s a clean romance with 2 kisses only you will really enjoy the story of Hannah and Ethan who in the end realized they had a love with each other that was special and worked to make it work for them.
What I don’t like is
At end saying I have to sign up to newsletter to be allowed to read the bonus epilogue.
Personally I don’t want to be made to join newsletters to read ending.
This fact will unfortunately stop me reading more from this author
If I buy a book I expect to get the epilogue ending without being made to join newsletters to be allowed to read it!!

This delicious escape of a read makes for a perfect summer staycation!

Bluestar Island brings struggling baker Hannah Bell and firefighter Ethan Walker together at a point when they both need a little help. As their drama unfolds amidst the delightful setting, friendship and romance bloom, healing occurs, and dreams reform.

It proved a pleasure to experience this charming sweet story with Hannah and Ethan in Jennifer Faye's Love Blooms. They are completely likable characters, and as pages turned, I hoped for the best for them. I could not help falling for the community surrounding them, too, and I cannot wait to revisit Bluestar Island in the next book.

What an amazing book. Ms. Jennifer Faye always creates the most romantic and sweet novels.

Hannah and Ethan’s love story is perfect. I found myself falling in love with both of them. Truly their sweet and enduring story is why us romantic’s read novels and become one with the character’s.

I want to move to Bluestar Island. I want to be a part of the wonderful town, become a residence, and surround myself in the beauty of the this Island and it’s townspeople.

This was a really really slow read and I couldn’t connect to any of the characters. Hannah is also a pretty poor business woman. She’s obsessing over how to still make het bakery look like her fantasies and jeopardising her ability open it at all because she can’t afford to finish it. She also won’t take any help from anyone in town and has a second flat above the bakery she could rent but instead lets Ethan stay there. She frustrated the hell out of me. DNF at 52%

Ethan is a fireman who lives in Brooklyn, he is just returning to the firehouse after recuperating from a serious accident. Although he might be physically ready to work, he is not certain about being mentally ready especially with the nightmares not going away.

When his parents call from Europe telling him that his great aunt Birdie was in an accident and will require surgery and care he tells them not to cancel their planned vacation. Ethan had not taken vacation days in a long time and has accrued almost five weeks so he tells his parents he will go to Bluestar and help her out.

Arriving in Bluestar he is reminded of all the wonderful summer vacations and holidays he spent with Birdie and her husband and how it might be just what he needs to recover and think about his future.

Hannah has been saving her entire life to finally open the bakery of her dreams. This day has finally arrived and the papers are signed. She has sacrificed many things including realizing that her fiancee does not share in her excitement. Now it is just a matter of trying to update the bakery she bought. It is old and needs many repairs but she is on a limited budget until it opens and she can earn money for these expenses.

After an unfortunate leak causes her to wonder if her dream is over and maybe she never should have bought the bakery luck seems to have shined on her. Ethan had been in town when he heard her screaming and ran to help. The bakery is flooded and he has the good sense to run to the water main and shut it
down.

While taking care of and visiting his aunt he seems to have felt something for Hannah that he has never felt before even with his ex-girlfriend. Together they embark on a business-type deal. Hannah will help with the Spring Fling and he will work on restoring the bakery with his skills as a contractor is put to use.

Her two best friends Josie and Lily seem to notice a different sparkle in Hannah's eyes whenever his name is brought up and Ethan seems happier than he has been in a long time.

Can this relationship ever move forward as it would be a long-distance one and those usually don't work? She is reminded of how her aunt gave up her family to move to be with her husband in Bluestar and never seemed to turn back. Could this be happening to him?

The more they know and talk to each other they realize how many things they have in common. Hannah's dad had been a firefighter who passed away recently due to a terrible fire. Ethan is not sure the plans his grandfather and dad had for him are what he really wants.

Will he follow his heart of return to Brooklyn? This is a delightful read and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Love Blooms by Jennifer Faye (4.25/5 stars) was one of those books that quietly worked its way into my heart and stayed there. I already enjoy Jennifer Faye’s warm, emotionally grounded romances, but this one hit especially close to home for me. Coming from a long line of firefighters, the themes of service, sacrifice, resilience, and love woven throughout the story felt deeply personal and incredibly moving.

At its core, Love Blooms is a story about second chances—at love, at life, and at finding joy after loss. The romance unfolds gently, allowing the characters the space they need to heal and grow. I really appreciated how the emotional journey never felt rushed. The connection between the leads developed naturally, grounded in shared understanding and quiet support rather than dramatic declarations.

The firefighter element wasn’t just a backdrop—it was an integral part of the story. Jennifer Faye captured the sense of duty, bravery, and emotional toll that comes with that life, and it felt authentic rather than romanticized. That authenticity is what made this book resonate so strongly with me.

There were several quotes that stood out and perfectly captured the heart of the story:

“Some people run toward the fire, not because they’re fearless, but because love taught them how.”

“Healing doesn’t mean forgetting—it means learning how to carry the memories without letting them break you.”

“Sometimes love grows quietly, like a bloom you don’t notice until it’s already filled the room.”

The writing itself is soft and comforting, with a steady pace that allows the emotional beats to land naturally. While it didn’t have explosive drama, it didn’t need it. The strength of this story lies in its sincerity, its heart, and its deep respect for the lives it portrays.

I gave Love Blooms 4.25 stars because it delivered exactly what I was hoping for: a heartfelt romance with emotional depth, realistic characters, and themes that linger long after the final page. It’s a story about love that endures, even in the face of fear and loss—and that’s what made it so special to me.

This is a wonderful read for anyone who enjoys emotionally rich, character-driven romances, especially those with themes of service, courage, and healing.

I love Jennifer Faye's books, so when I heard she was coming out with a new series, I preordered it immediately! I have to admit that I've taken a bit to read this book for the simple reason that I didn't want it to end. I only read a few pages a night as a treat, so I didn't have to wait quite as long for the second in the Bluestar Island book! (I hope it's about Hannah's brother and one of her besties!)

Ethan was needed on the island of Bluestar, but no one knew that, including him. When his Aunt Birdie fell and needed help with her home and dog, he was the only one in the family available, so he left his job as a firefighter in NY on an extended vacation to Bluestar Island. It didn't end up to be much of a vacation though when he had to rescue the town's only baker from peril.

Hannah had her goals set and no one was going to get in her way. Whatever you do, don't offer to help her! She would tell you no nine times even if she were drowning in the ocean. Honestly, she was drowning, but she was lucky that a handsome rescuer arrived on the island in time to keep her from being electrocuted.

Facing a deadline to get her bakery open by the time tourists arrived, and now having to start over from scratch, Ethan offered his skills in the bakery in exchange for her skills with planning a festival his Aunt Birdie was normally in charge of every year. He had never been to a Spring Fling, but with Aunt Birdie laid up in Boston, the responsibility fell on his shoulders. He would do just about anything to keep his family happy AND spend time with Hannah. It was going to be a win-win for all of them.

Was it? Well, I think I'll let you read it to find out, but suffice it to say this is the perfect summer small-town romance filled with family, grief, new paths, baby goats, and misunderstandings. The townspeople of Bluestar Island are tight and only want what's best for their little island and the people on it. If you love clean romance with a HEA then you definitely want to visit the island of Bluestar where love blooms and happiness is found.

Wanted to save this for summer or spring time, BUT I couldn't wait. I want to get to the other two in series and you need to read this one first.

Here we have Ethan and Hannah. Ethan is a New York firefighter who's life is in a tailspin after he's injured while on the job. When an urgent call brings him to Bluestar Island, he agrees to stay on the island and watch his great aunt's dog and take over her duties of the Spring Fling. Hannah has always wanted to own a bakery of her very own. When a broken water pipe washes away her plans, she is on the verge of losing everything. She can't miss the spring time business! Hannah and Ethan team up. He promises he can repair her shop before May and Hannah agrees to help him organize the Spring Fling.

This was very sweet...and long winded. I enjoyed it overall, don't get me wrong. But it took forever for any sort of character development for these two. Hannah has some serious issues. Her father was a firefighter and died on the job so she can't get close to Ethan. Ethan is unsure of what he wants to do in life since his accident. However, it was all very clear........Ethan open your contractor business.....Hannah....go to therapy. Gah.

I liked both Ethan and Hannah, but their will-they-won't-they made my eye twitch sometimes. I just wanted them to be together dangit. They were so sweet and perfect for each other!!!!

The side characters were gems. I can't wait to read more on this island. I think the next one is about Hannah's brother. Weeeee! He needs love and a partner for sure.

The ending was nicely done. They have come to turns with stuff and the outcome was perfect for everyone. Everyone got what they want and needed. Yayy.

This was a very sweet romance. No steamy scenes, but it was nice. Very Hallmark-y in the best of ways.

All-in-all, this is a perfect spring read. Yes, yes I read it during Xmas time but oh well. A very cute couple who have a LOT to work through. The love took a LONG while, but it was worth it in the end. I'll give this 3 stars.

Sweet Small-Town Romance

In this small-town romance, recently injured but recovering firefighter Ethan comes to Bluestar Island to take care of his great aunt's dog while she is in physical rehab. He's not quite ready to come back to work after an injury on the job, so this is the perfect getaway and chance to help family. Our heroine's future seems bright at the start, as she's about to fulfill her dream of opening her own bakery. But in the dramatic meet-cute, her bakery—which she is just about to renovate before opening in 3 weeks—floods due to a broken pipe, and the hero not only keeps her from running into the building (possibly electrocuting herself) but manages to shut off the water to the building. The hero is totally adorbs. Who wouldn't like a young man who is not only brave but caring and compassionate toward an elderly relative? I had a few problems with the heroine. The aspect of her character that drove me the craziest is that she pushed away any assistance from those who loved or cared about her as she tried to deal with the physical and financial devastation caused by the bakery flood. The author didn't show enough to explain this annoying flaw of her character. Clearly, she needed help, and she rejected it time after time, even lying to people, telling them that she had it all under control when she did not. It would have been okay if this flaw popped up now and then, but it happened constantly in the book, and each time it did, it was a nails-on-a-chalkboard moment for me. However, I did like other aspects of her character, and in fact, of all the people we meet on Bluestar Island in this book. This is the first of a series, and I'm actually looking forward to other ones... so long as the author doesn't give the hero or heroine such an annoying flaw!

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Sweet romance fans cannot fail but be completely charmed by Jennifer Faye’s engrossing contemporary romance, Love Blooms.

Bluestar Island is the place baker Hannah Bell calls home. Still mourning the death of her beloved father who died in a fire, Hannah is focusing all of her time, energy and effort into opening her very own bakery. Hannah cannot remember a time when she didn’t want to have her own shop where she could create delicious treats for her customers. But just when her dream was within reach, a burst pipe ends up putting paid to all her carefully laid plans! What is Hannah going to do now?

New York firefighter Ethan Walker’s life revolved around his job, but when he is injured on duty, he finds himself at a crossroads. Ethan’s entire existence revolved around his career; he doesn’t know who he is if he isn’t fighting fires and protecting his community. At a loose end, when Ethan gets a call from his meddlesome great aunt, he agrees to help her out unaware that organizing Bluestar Island’s Spring Fling is going to prove even more challenging than he previously thought. In desperate need of assistance, it looks like Ethan is going to need all the help he can get and luckily for him, Hannah is willing and able to step in when things get a bit too fraught. However, pretty soon, it’s not just the Spring Fling which Ethan has to worry about!

As the two of them begin to get very close, Ethan and Hannah find themselves wondering whether they should trust their gut and follow their heart because love can bloom in the most surprising and unexpected of places – especially on Bluestar Island…

I am a huge fan of Jennifer Faye’s and she has once again penned a stellar contemporary romance that made me laugh and cry. Enchanting, emotional and so enjoyable readers will gobble it up like a delicious blueberry muffin, Love Blooms is a hopeful and heartfelt page-turner, with a fantastic heroine and a gorgeous hero, which has got winner written all over it.

A delightful and entertaining read, taking the reader to the idyllic lifestyle on Bluestar Island with all of the wonderful and engaging locals who make both tourists and new residents welcome. Hannah has lived on Bluestar Island all of her life, she has wanted to own a bakery for as long as she can remember and her dream is finally here, with money she saved, a little money left to her by her Dad and a loan which has her very nervous, she has lots of work to do to renovate and bring the building up to standard to pass the inspection so she can open the bakery. Hannah has her renovations underway and some supplies on-site already, one beautiful morning she opens the door to the bakery and is shocked at a rush of water that floods out at her, when she screams, an amazingly good looking man has come running to see what the problem is, he saves her from going inside, as there are live wires. He turns the water off and introduces himself to Hannah as Ethan, he is on Bluestar Island to look after his Great Aunt Birdie’s dog and house while she is recovering in hospital. The chemistry between Hannah and Ethan was instant however their road to romance or anything was a long time coming and they had to work for it. They both had their traumas, Ethan had PTSD from a workplace accident that he has recently just recovered from, he also has doubts about his career future, Hannah has trauma relating to her father’s death.
The book was a joy to read, loved all the characters that made the reader feel that Bluestar Island has to be the best place to live in the whole world. It was a sweet romance and a very quick read for me.

This started out strong with the circumstances under which these two meet, and I liked the idea of Ethan helping Hannah repair/renovate her damaged yet due to open soon bakery. They also had a decent conflict in that he’s a firefighter and her father died while fighting a fire.

But then suddenly they’re also tasked with planning their small town’s Spring Fling event, which to me, felt like an unnecessary addition to the story, the bakery already had them in “forced proximity” they didn’t need another project. And frankly, it’s tough to believe that someone could do all the prep needed to successfully launch a small business, and still have time leftover to event plan, fill baskets, etc.

I do enjoy seasonal elements in a novel, and that it’s spring in this one rather than summer or Christmas (more common in romance novels), is refreshing. I would have been fine with these two taking a well deserved day off from their hard work on the bakery to let loose at this event, I could see that adding nicely to their romance (as their auction excursion did) but I would have rather their involvement in the Spring Fling hadn’t gone any further than a visit to the Spring Fling, that there had been less time on event planning and more time spent showing the two of them working on the bakery together. I just felt like Hannah trying to bring her dream to fruition in the face of financial and timeline obstacles, and Ethan figuring out whether he could be happy in another occupation, those emotional stakes were so much higher than dealing with the town busybody and other Spring Fling related stuff.

To me, this drifted away from its early promise a little too often, still these were likeable characters in a picturesque setting.

This first book in the author’s new series, Bluestar Island, is a sweet, touching romance about life , expectations and love.
Hannah Baker, born and raised on the island, is everyone’s favorite baker. Her dream of opening her own bakery is within reach as she now is the new owner of the location of her future bakery. But her dreams are shattered when she opens the door to the location and finds the kitchen flooded and water coming from a broken pipe up above.
Ethan Walker, a NY firefighter visiting the island while he takes care of his aunt’s dog, sees her, and drags her out before she can be hurt. Neither realizing that from then on their lives would change forever.
As a friendship develops and Ethan offers to help her with the bakery and his aunt with the Spring Fling, both of them have to deal with their past and how it could affect their future. While Ethan is recovering from an on the job injury, he wonders if he’ll ever go back to firefighting, while Hannah can’t see herself with a firefighter. Not after her father, was killed in one while in the line of duty.
Will they each teach the other that there is more to life than what’s expected of them? Will they be able to let go of the painful past in order to find a future filled instead with memories? In the end, will they find their HEA?
This is a touching story, that is at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. One filled with interesting characters , some of which the reader is sure will have their own stories.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
