Cursed

Rate this book
My family is cursed, and I’m the next victim.

At least, that’s what my father believes. His obsession with the sleeping curse that took my mother has driven him mad.

Growing up as the daughter of Hollywood royalty put me constantly in the sights of paparazzi. So when an invitation to visit Prince Phillip of Ashea arrives, I jump at the chance to get away from the cameras. He’s the man I’ve wanted since we were both children.

But I’ve only ever had him once upon a dream.

My prince is everything I envisioned, but a dark brooding presence has worked his way between us. Malachi, his wicked step-brother, weaves his spell around me. I should choose Phillip, but I want Mal just as badly.

In the halls of the castle, I discover fate has plans for the three of us.

One of them is destined to save me. The other is my curse.
And me? I need them both.

Cursed is a menage Sleeping Beauty retelling with a twist. Two dragons, one princess, and a destiny none of them can escape.

This one is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty in an m/f/m romance.
In this case, the prince is not only one, but two, and they're dragon princes.
Aurora is invited by Philip to a charity event in his castle.
She's got a crush for him since ever...
There she meets Malachi, Philip stepbrother.
Malachi is Philip's stepmother son, he's not related to Philip in any way, so I'm a bit confused why the castle belong to both of them...
Anyway, Aurora feels for Mal also.
And that's a problem, only one of them can save her from the curse, only one of them is her true love...
Or can we have two true love?
Two true mates?

*ALC received from Audibly Addicted in exchange for my honest review. *

Cursed was a fairytale dream come true with intrigue, heat, and unexpected love. I hope this is a series we see from K. Loraine where she takes her favorite classics and puts her own spin on them.

Aurora has adored Prince Phillip since their first meeting, but she never expected Malachi, Phillip's stepbrother to stir something in her she has never felt before. With them both she could have the fairytale she has always wanted but fairytales aren't real, and she must choose. The prince with all his kindness or the bad boy who brings to life something inside her she has always craved.

J.F. Harding can do cowboys, he can do a rough brute of a man but people he can do accents too! Just bask in the deliciousness that his voice as he narrates not only the dreamy prince but Malachi as well. Stella Hunter is so talented! Her accents are always getting better but she carried all the female narrators in this story, and it was done so beautifully!!

With this being a retelling of Sleeping Beauty I expected the differences to be vast. What I didn't expect was the uniqueness that was brought to this story from their dragons all the way to the curse.

K. Loraine has written some of my favorite paranormal books, but this might be one of my favorites. Aurora not only got her happily ever after, but she never stopped fighting for it, and nothing does it for me like a heroine who can save herself and the one she loves at the end.

(audiobook) Short listen means short review, since there’s usually less to say. This time, though, there’s quite a bit to write about.

I loved the mix of genres. First of all, it’s a fairytale retelling. The author takes the Sleeping Beauty story and picks up some elements, and twists others. There’s a sleeping woman… but she isn’t the only one. There’s a magic kiss. Well, at least one. There’s more than one prince. As the title suggests, the sleeping curse is really what interested the author, but even that she changed it to make it deadly. Most of it was quite clever.

Making it a paranormal romance wasn’t much of a stretch. There’s magic and a curse, and magical beings, in the originale tale. But why not make the prince….s…. dragon shifters? Not a bad idea. The author develops the curse into something that threatens more than just Aurora’s life, and I liked the world building around it. What I loved even more? That she calls back several characters from other paranormal series she’s written, linking them into a unique universe. It’s tricky, but it works well here.

It’s also a sexy story. With two dragon princes fighting for Aurora’s heart, it was bold to make them a menage. The comparison between Philip and Malachi, who are stepbrothers but also total opposites and somewhat rivals, is at the center of the story. There’s a few really interesting ideas thrown in the mix that I won’t spoil, but that I liked very much.

The narration was spot on. The male narrator does the voices of the two princes and by giving one of them an accent, there’s never any confusion. The female narrator is her usual great self and delivers a good performance too. I recommend if you’re looking for a short sexy paranormal menage.

Quickie

- Series: standalone
- Hashtags: #paranormal romance #fairytale retelling #novella #dragon shifters #fated mates #menage #MFM
- Triggers: mild violence
- Main “couple”: Aurora & (Philip and Malachi)
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 3/5
- + interesting retelling of the classic tale
- – novella + fated mates = limited seduction

ARC Review

The tale of Sleeping Beauty has always been one of my favorites. This quick retelling by K. Loraine is a MFM, why choose of Aurora, Phillip, and Malachi. A delicious story about a curse and the men who play their parts in it. Will they be her savior or doom? Read to find out.

Stella Hunter and J.F. Harding did an amazing. Stella is a master of her craft and Harding's Irish accent is one of the best I've ever heard.

This book has chemistry, some spice, a nice plot twist, and links to the Blackthorns and The Mate Games, and I would love to know where it fits in timeline wise to The Mate Games. Since discovering K. Loraine's writing from The Mate Game series (co-written with Meg Anne) I've discovered a new love for PNR. Based on Sleeping Beauty with the addition of dragon shifter step brothers, this story really tickled my fancy, but I was kind let down by the story. For me, the story was a little too short, and maybe if it had been longer there would have been room for a little more development. There were some continuity issues for me were plot lines didn't quite pan out or if more explanation had happened. For example, and NOT spoiling anything, they way Aurora is awakened, there are certain things that could be inferred, but I wish the author explained more of how it all went down.

Cursed was a dark, alluring, and spicy new twist on the beloved fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty! I love the whole idea of sexy shifter dragons and a golden-haired cursed princess. Plus, this book is set in Loraine's paranormal universe where there are nods to some other familiar characters. (Hey Ravenscroft!) Aurora, Philip, and Mal have a forbidden attraction that is magnetic and undeniable!

Stella Hunter and J.F. Harding narrate this audiobook in duet, and both are perfection paired together. Stella portrays Aurora's innocence, curiosity, and desires passionately as she gives into the temptation to break the curse and go after what she truly longs for! J.F. Harding takes on double duty in this audio performing both Phillip and Malachi. J.F. gives Phillip a charismatic, heroic quality that is super swoony. However, his performance of Malachi is so much more sinfully tempting primarily because of that enticing Irish accent.

Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook! If you are a fan of paranormal shifter romance with the golden boy brother, an Irish bad boy stepbrother, a fierce glorious princess, a curse, true love's kiss, dragons, hot steamy menage times, epic battles, secrets, and a HEA that will make you believe two is better than one, then you will love Aurora, Phillip, and Mal's story. I'm looking forward to more from K. Loraine.

4 stars out of 5: ALC

This is a bit of a re-telling of a sleeping beauty fairytale but with a twist, dragon shifters!!!! Who doesn’t want to be invited to a charity ball by Prince Phillip? Aurora was excited to go and see her old friend, Phillip. Even if the families, back in the past, were rivalries, it didn’t stop her going to see Phillip & furthermore, the attraction/chemistry with one another was quite strong. In time, however, Phillip’s stepbrother, Mal, came along to try to win her heart. Yes, there is a decision as to who her true mate could be & finding that mate can perhaps break her father’s curse. Then again, MFM romance might confuse the reader a little yet it is enjoyable & intriguing to listen/read about. Also, If you read/listen to the Mate games book series, you will have some familiar characters in the book which are delightful treats!!! Overall, this was a great break from contemporary romance for me. It might be a novella but it did have plenty of awe-blowing moments, lots of action, and plenty of hot flames between the 2 dragon shifters for Aurora!
I am starting to realize why JF Harding is getting all the buzz. He is really good at narrating multiple characters and it’s truly a bonus hearing him with Stella Hunter. She’s pleasant to hear & does well with multiple characters, tool. So much talent-They just give it their all and I have to say, they are well suited for PNR, for sure! So, if you are into a little break from contemporary romance, dive into this novella book, eh!

I really love sexy and erotic retellings of my favorite fairytales. This ménage stepbrother, dragon shifter retelling of Sleeping Beauty was fantastic! I love that K. Loraine wrote this in modern day times.
We have Aurora, a Hollywood princess. She reconnects with Prince Phillip who she’s had a crush on for a long time. He invites her to join him at Ball at his castle in his home country. She’s been dealing with worrying about her father‘s mental health for 16 years. He’s been obsessed with a sleeping curse that took her mother, and that she is going to be next. She needs a break from the stress this brings, so she takes a few of her friends to prince Phillips‘s castle.
She’s immediately swept up into his castle with how beautiful and peaceful it is. She loves the countryside. She’s treated like a true princess. She loves how attentive Phillip is being with her. Shes so into him and wants him. Then she meets Malachi (Mal), Phillips stepbrother. Immediately she knows he’s all kinds of trouble. He’s a predator, but it excites her. He starts to weave his dark spell around her. While Phillip has no accent, Mal has an Irish accent making her melt. While Phillip is a perfect charming gentleman she can still see the carnal hunger in his eyes. Can she have both? Does she have to choose? The flirting and the sexy dreams are so hot between these characters.
She later finds out that one of them is destined to save her, the other IS her curse. They are hiding such a huge secret about what they are. Afraid it will scare her away. They themselves are involved in this sleeping curse. I loved seeing some beloved characters from Kim’s previous books. A gorgeous vampire Prince and an Alpha Hole shifter. Who will win? Who will she choose the end? Either? Both? It’s an erotic, yet fun story.
Stella Hunter and J.F. Harding narrate this in duet. Stella was fantastic as Aurora. She portrayed her sweetness, curiosity, yet strong personality perfectly. I just loved her voices for the other female characters. Proving again that she is one of my faves. J.F. did an amazing job voicing both brothers. He portrayed Phillips “prince charming” smooth as silk voice. Sweet and sexy. Voicing Mal with his Irish accent was darker more seductive and sensual. Both were absolutely delicious!

This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty with Dragons involved and it was so entertaining, it's a short read but if you get the audiobook you will have twice the fun listening to fantastic narrators Stella Hunter and JF Harding did a fantastic job, I simply love them in this audio. The story was very fun to read, having a twisted fantasy retelling version of Sleeping Beauty, I never expected to have the dragons involved in this like it was, but I found it a perfect addition and simply a great way to pass a couple of hours. I want more like this.

*Audiobook review*

This was a super quick but fun Sleeping Beauty retelling. This 'why choose' between a Hollywood princess and her 2 sexy suitors delivers some delicious tension and heated moments. I like how we still get the feel of the original worked in through the use of dragon shifters and a curse upon Aurora's family, yet still get some fun new surprises. A curse, a prophecy, and a sexy new spin on a classic story. I loved the narration in this story! Stella and JF gave performances full of energy, loads of emotion, and delightful accent work.

Narrators are both SO GOOD. I’ve listened to duet narration that I did not like, but this one was perfect. I know I have heard JF Harding before, but it must’ve been an ensemble cast where I couldn’t figure out who was who. Have I been under a rock or has he been hiding?

I want to like this story more than I did. I love the idea of it, but there was too much complexity to handle in the abbreviated format. Instead of feeling like I got a lot in a small package, the story felt vague, especially the curse and solution mechanics. I would’ve liked more dragon time, too. (That might be a wish for more JF Harding in my ears, but I do love dragons.)

I really liked what I understood of the variations on the classic Sleeping Beauty. The steamy bits were good, and overall the narrators pulled it through.

I think when your chief complaint about a book is that you wanted more of it, that’s not too bad.

Okay, I am officially a dragon shifter fan now. 😮‍💨

Cursed is a charming, yet suspenseful and spicy read that is guaranteed to make you swoon!

Aurora leans on the stronger side of heroines which I enjoyed. She wasn’t afraid to stand her ground or settle for anything less than what she deserved in life. Philip and Mal complete her in a refreshing twist of fate that makes for a fantastic spin on the traditional Sleeping Beauty fairytale.

Although it’s a shorter read there is no lack of plot or heat. I think I loved this aspect of the story the most. Somehow K. Loraine encapsulated true mates, undeniable chemistry and character redemption within a few short hours.

Do I want more? Yes, but is it because I feel like the story isn’t complete? No. It’s simply because this story is so easy to get lost in!

The narration by Stella Hunter and JF Harding is supreme. Stella’s sultry yet playful voice fits Aurora’s personality beautifully while JF has the smooth cadence (and accent) to pull off both Philip and Mal with ease.

Cursed absolutely belongs in both your visual and aural libraries. 🔥

**Audiobook Review**

“Cursed” is a steamy, action packed and thrilling spin on Sleeping Beauty where Aurora has two delicious men to choose from but only one can end the curse that has been bestowed over her family.

I loved the retelling of this story so much. It immediately pulled me in since it’s modern day and set in the LA area. Aurora never really believed her father about the curse even though that’s what took her mother from them. Aurora is fierce, smart, independent and I connected with her right away. Phillip was swoon worthy from the beginning and I loved the connection between him and Aurora. And Mal has a darker personaility and that was instant yes from me. His connection to Aurora and Phillip balanced out this m/f/m relationship and I loved the steaminess and also the realness that they shared. And the appearances of some of my favorite characters from her world made me so happy.

Stella Hunter and J.F. Harding narrate this story in duet and they were so perfect. You can never go wrong listening to Stella, she brings every story to life with her passionate performances. J.F. Harding was great as Phillip and Mal. Mal has an Irish accent and J.F. did a great job with his accent.

I've just started dabbing in the PNR world, and I am finding that I am liking it here. It's a nice little break from contemporary.

Cursed pulled me in with the blurb, and I knew that I had to read it. The fact that Kim Loraine wrote it was just icing on the cake. Kim is one of my one click authors so it's of no surprise that I enjoyed the book.

I found myself really intrigued with everything that was happening throughout the book. From the reintroduction of Aurora and Philip, to the meetup at the castle, to the reveal of the curse, and everything else that happened with in this story, I did not want the story to end. The dragons were definitely a nice touch. Add in the familiar faces from The Mate Games series, and I was hooked.

Loved the little twists that Kim added to the Sleeping Beauty story, and how she brought it into a more modern setting. I am so ready for more PNR from this author.

What a fantastic, paranormal spin on the tale of Sleeping Beauty. I was completely immersed with this story in the first few pages. The mystery and impending doom surrounding the curse had me on edge the whole story. The pull between Phillip and Mal is instantaneous and hot. If there is anything I could wish for is that I want more. I want more of Aurora, Phillip, and Mal. I would love to read a series involving this curse and the dragons. I loved seeing glimpses of friends from other books as well.

*ALC Review* Brilliant twist on Sleeping Beauty! I'm a sucker for reimagined classic fairy tales and K. Loraine did not disappoint! It's a short, but extra steamy, M/F/M story involving one sassy Aurora and two dragon shifters. With a delicious HEA, this paranormal shifter romance is perfection. The duet narration by Stella Hunter and J.F. Harding was outstanding and I was impressed with the different accents. They definitely understood the assignment!

Terrific Story & Narration🎧 A Steamy & Action-Packed Fantasy PNR!

Cursed
By: K. Loraine
Narrated by: J.F. Harding, Stella Hunter

K. Loraine pens another amazing novel, an imaginative spin on the classic fairytale, Sleeping Beauty, that is captivating from start to end. The story takes place in her existing paranormal world with mentions of characters that may be familiar to you, the Blackthornes, if you enjoyed her vampire books. If not, no worries, the story stands on its own and the three lead characters are all new, Aurora, and the two princes, Malachi and Phillip, who are so much more than mere men. Aurora’s father has been talking about being cursed and is telling she is doomed by it but she writes it off as him losing his mind. When she gets invited to visit Prince Phillip of Ashea she jumps on it, not only does it get her away from it all, but he is he man she has always wanted. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but then there is Malachi, his wicked step-brother who is so much darker than him, and she is drawn to him too, in life and in her dreams. Aurora soon learns there is so much more to these two men and the curse her father was babbling about. This is wonderful paranormal romance is imaginative and cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, heartfelt emotions, steamy romance, some action and surprising twists. K. Loraine, thank you for another entertaining story. It is escapism at its finest.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, J.F. Harding and Stella Hunter make a great team and do an awesome job bringing these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, and I loved how they took each role and made it their own. J.F Harding nailed it as both princes, played each one with perfection, from the dark Malachi to the caring Philip. Stella Hunter’s Aurora was spot on, strong and relentless. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions, projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Cursed is a spicy, enticing retelling of a classic fairytale. Author K. Loraine takes the fantastical story of Sleeping Beauty and turns its on into a sexy romance between a "princess" and her prince and her downfall. She sets this story in a paranormal world with dragons, shifters, and a few cameos from some familiar faces.

This book is narrated by the down-right sexy J.F. Harding and the alluring Stella Hunter. These two are pure gold together. Every narration they do together is top notch and this one was no different. Stella is the beautiful Hollywood princess, Aurora. She perfectly encapsulates the innocence and curiosity of Aurora. As a listener, you feel every fear that she has for her father's mental health over the looming curse, as well as every ounce of love and passion she feels for Phillip and Mal. J.F. Harding... no matter how much I listen to his work, he astounds me. He is every male character, from the charming prince to the devilishly charming half brother and so many others in between. His performance as Malachi stands out the most with a sinfully delicious Irish accent.

If you love fantasy or paranormal romances, retellings of classic fairytales, and stories with multiple sexy heroes then grab this tantalizing novella and get ready to swoon.

Loved this fairytale retelling!!

This is a great short story re-telling about Sleeping Beauty with a twist! Aurora is Hollywood royalty, but even though her mother died after being in a coma, her father never got over it and believes she'd been cursed. She runs into Philip who was a childhood friend and her biggest crush who is also a prince from a small island. He invites her and her friends to a "charity" gala at his palace.
Philip has a big secret... not only has he been in love with Aurora since he was a boy, he also knows about the curse he family has been beseeched with. He's not only a prince, but a dragon as well. His stepbrother Malachi shows up at the party uninvited and tries to woo Aurora away.
This was a fantastic M/F/M book and super hot to listen to. It was a fantastic paranormal romance book, and the audio book was amazing to listen to.
The narrators, Stella Hunter and JF Harding, did an amazing job keeping the book super endorsing entertaining and brilliant!

Great job!

When Aurora and her friends are invited to a charity ball by an old acquaintance, Prince Phillip, she's intrigued and excited to see him again. There's definitely some chemistry between them. Aurora is also looking forward to getting a reprieve from her father's tales of a curse that killed his wife/her mother years previous. To Phillip's dismay, his unwelcome stepbrother Mal shows up for the festivities, and messes up his plans for him and Aurora. Unknown to Aurora, her father's ramblings are very accurate, and Phillip will have to reveal himself at risk of losing Aurora. Don't forget about Mal, but I won't give any spoilers on his role in all this.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Lots of action, plenty of heat, and several surprises. Although brief, this was a wonderful retelling of Sleeping Beauty. This was also my first encounter with dragon shifters. Wow! Stella Hunter and JF Harding are superb in their narration. Both are favorite narrators for me, and their wonderful talents are on display as they both take on multiple characters.

Cursed: a sleeping beauty retelling. By K. Loraine
Narration by JF Harding and Stella Hunter

Cursed is a fantasy retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty with two sexy princes who will hopefully help her end the Curse!

Aurora comes from a family where her father believes the family is cursed by the felling of the woman in the family until they are awoken by their one true love’s kiss. Unfortunately her mother did not survive the curse or so her father believes.

Two separate suitors vie for her. Philip and Maliki are step brothers and they have secrets they hold from her. I loved this contemporary view of sleeping beauty and okay I’m envious of Aurora! Such a hot sexy version of a favourite fairytale.

And done in audio is what skyrockets this book into the next world. A mystical one with all sorts of characters. JF Harding and Stella Hunter were ignited by fire in this thrilling retelling.

To clarify, I listened to the audiobook. It is duet narration and was well done! This was a 5 star, 2 spice listen for me! This is a menage MFM Sleeping Beauty retelling novella. Tropes include: paranormal, human FMC x shifter step-brothers, witches, fairies and dragons, secrets, mystery, insta-attraction, fated mates, dream walking, HEA.

Aurora (FMC) is a Hollywood socialite living under the shadow of her father, who insists her family is cursed. HE has been mad since the death of mother. When she receives an invitation from Prince Phillip (MMC) to join him at his estate for a retreat, she jumps at the chance.

She certainly wasn’t expecting to be faced with not one but two gorgeous men when she arrived. While Prince Phillip is less than thrilled to see that his step-brother Malachi (MMC) has crashed the party, there isn’t much he can do. Phillip has to find a way to explain the curse and his role to Aurora. Can he save her from her fate?

Cursed

Love this sleeping beauty retelling. Aurora grew up most of her life without her mother. Her father went crazy and believes she was cursed and that the same thing would happen to her. Prince Philip of Ashea was a friend from her past that she had a crush on. He delivers her an invitation to a week long ball at his home. She attends and she meets, Malachi who is Philip's stepbrother. She feels a connection to them both and they spend the night ravishing her body. The next day they want her to choose, only things start taking a drastic turn from there. It was really good and I enjoyed this novella and it was since to see random pop ups from the Blackthrons and Ferrels which are featured in the mate games series.

Extremely imaginative, fabulously interwoven with beloved characters from other series ( hello RavensCroft!) 2 competing brothers, one cursed beauty and so many twists and turns I had to relisten to several chapters to keep up! I loved it, loved the narration,Stella Hunter has the perfect voice for the young unexpecting socialite and JF Harding vocalizes the ying and yang of Phillip and Malachai’s personalities perfectly! Don’t really like the characters. Can’t get over the fact that the FMC who is portrayed as a independent women has no problem with the Prince providing her clothes and dresses and under clothes. Amazing all in her exact size and it’s not creepy but the prince being thoughtful. The prince doesn’t seem real with forced emotions and stuff.

Also how can she not know they’re not human. She notices their eyes changing color but never comments on them. It feels author left a lot of things out to keep the word count low. I can’t believe I’m saying this as I don’t like descriptive book but this would have been much better if it was more descriptive and a bit slow.
