Max Tate is the new host of a paranormal investigation show on Prowl, a streaming channel dedicated to the unexplainable. He’s also a grouchy vegan who has sworn off relationships. That is until he finds himself wildly attracted to the show’s new demonologist.
Arriving at The Canyon Hotel in a tiny Arizona town infamous for hauntings and murders Max discovers that ghosts are real. And so are demons. Like the one he’s unable to resist, Mister Demonologist himself, Sal Dukes.
As Max learns more about the supernatural world, it’s getting harder to resist the pull of Sal in any form—demon or human—and Max might just be falling in— No, he is not. Don’t be ridiculous.
Then something or someone starts attacking Max, and Sal is determined to rid the hotel of the demonic entity trapping ghosts and influencing a murderer. Will Max and Sal be able to combine forces to defeat a demon far more powerful than a lone duke of hell? Or will Max’s true nature not be enough to save them?
This novella has an enemies-to-lovers story with a grouchy ghost hunter and a very patient demon, some angst, a few unusual religious figures, and lots of divine moments of ecstasy with a HEA ending.
I just love Delaney Rain's monsters series, they're all so so great. This is definitely one of my top favorites - heck, might be top 3 now!
I love Sal and Max together - loved their dynamic, loved Max's internal dialogue, loved how smitten they were with each other right away. I loved Sal in the high heels.
Awesome, fun, sexy, hot story. If you're looking for some fun times with a demon with horns, then this is your story!
This is loosely connected to the Dragon's Mate story, but can stand on its own very well too. But still, I basically recommend everything from this author.
The good + Sal's heels + Max's anatomy adjusting and becoming a perfect fit for Sal + Max quitting his job when + Max's infatuation with Sal's demon form + Max's chicken form and how much he hated it + Forehead kisses
The neutral o If all of Max's 'other' forms were triggered by intense arousal, how come he didn't poof into a cloud of feathers the first time Sal rimmed him? o Dragon babies were mentioned. Why were dragon babies not seen??? o The one camera guy or equipment guy believed in the supernatural. Why didn't they just invite him along when they started fixing paranormal problems away from the show?
The bad - Max's ex was basically like like that changes anything? Why did this make Max less angry? It would have made more sense had Max been more angry after hearing that lousy excuse - Sal and Max had good sex, but it didn't feel like there was much more between them. Sal just seemed to make Max horny by antagonizing him, which is a nice hobby, but I don't know if that's enough to be together for eternity
Well, that was fun. I would have liked a bit more emotional connection besides the physical connection, but I had a good time reading this. Would recommend.
This book has exactly one thing going for it and that’s that sometimes you can maybe sense a bit of plot going on and that’s me being generous You know that project where someone made a computer watch several hours of Batman movies and then made it write a script for a Batman movie? That’s what this feels like but with bad romance. This reads like a first draft of something that had a general idea of where it wanted to go but got lost along the way
Plot aside, I cannot fathom what the author was thinking at times with what they wrote?? Which is so weird bc I read a different book from them and it was so much better This at times was worse than early wattpad Let me quote some things “Nipples the size of wine corks”???? “but he hollered instead as Sal slurped up and swallowed Max’s cock like a goddamned pro” I never want to read the word slurp in that context again “Gigantadick” I’m not kidding that’s a word in the book “breached max’s ass like a warm knife through butter” the allegory is so??? “boinking” “He was getting impaled by a goddamned traffic cone” this is not the description I want to read when reading sexy time (the traffic cone comes back later on btw such a weird reference I’d rather sit on a hot grill than read this again) “his come sparked! Blast after blast of glittery ropes…” Edward Cullen core??? “jackhammering into max’s ass like he was tearing up concrete” METAPHORS ARENT ALWAYS GOOD AND COLOURFUL LANGUAGE DOESNT ALWAYS HELP
also the characters are all so flat and unlikeable and had really fucking weird relationships I don’t know how I got through this

This was a fast read, and I did like the back and forth verbal sparring between these two. It mentions enemies to lovers, but I wouldn’t say that was the vibe I got. Max was more so just annoyed by some things Sal did and also reeling from a bad previous relationship where he was hurt. They barely knew each other and all of a sudden Max was like take me now.
It was pretty instalove, although Max tried fighting against his feelings for a bit and telling himself it was just sex. I liked when Sal transformed to his demon self, but I didn’t like Max’s transformations really. The parts with Dan were pretty weird, and I wasn’t a big fan of Max’s crew honestly. There were a couple guys that seemed okay like Forrest and Jirvon, but most of the people (especially Talia) sucked. The happenings at The Canyon Hotel didn’t surprise me, and I called everything that was happening basically. The visit to Home was weird.
I just felt like this didn’t have such a natural progression of their relationship as The Red Dragon’s Mate book had, even though it was longer. Maybe because so much of the story was focused on other things outside of the couple? I’m thinking 2.5 out of 5 stars for this, but think I’ll round down.
This is an excellent book for what it is: an over-the-top silly, fast-paced romance with fated mates.
Max is a prickly shit (I think it's a direct quote) who seems to completely lust over anything demonic. The book is horny and the humour is sometimes bordering on odd, but it suits Max. That's him. While he's not a first person narrator, the writing suits his character. Max is thinking how it feels like a traffic cone impaling his ass, so that's what the readers get. The sex scenes are definitely smutty and even hot if one can laugh at the traffic cones and other similar comparisons. They turn a bit intercourse-centric towards the end though.
It's a wild ride about angels, demons and ghosts packed in a length of a novella, but I just went with it and enjoyed it a great deal.
Initially Sal was giving all Constantine vibes, and then suddenly he's all
Wow. I loved this book. I’m a big Delaney Rain fan to start with and love her books but this is definitely my favourite. Sal. I was pretty much in love with him within two pages and desperately wishing I was Max by the time he realised Sal was wearing heals. That demon… gawd, he is a ridiculously perfect combination of sweet, bone meltingly hot and funny. Max was hilarious. His snark (which really just hides his marshmallowy centre) was great and kept things light even when they got tense. I loved how the plot came together. It had great pacing - enough to keep you hooked but not so fast that you lost the genuine suspense and drama behind it. The world building (or maybe more mythology?) was on point. I thought it was really creative and different from what you often read. I still have questions but given even Max still does that’s not really surprising. I’m really, really, really hoping we get to see more demons in future books. They are genuinely super cool in the way they’ve been depicted and if they’re anything like what we’ve seen so far they’ll make fantastic characters. I’m loving this series and can’t wait for the next one - and the others after that, with perhaps a few more demons ;).
I thought I would like this (obviously, I read it) but I liked it more and in a different way than I thought I would. I loved the plot. I loved the humor. I enjoyed Sal and many of the side characters. Max was kind of eh, but he worked okay to keep the plot moving.
I was absolutely delighted with the premise of a paranormal investigation show that is 100% admittedly scripting and faking everything. Like the WWE performance of ghost hunting. As an avid fan of BuzzFeed Unsolved: Supernatural, I LOVED all the little funny tidbits of using the equipment and Max coming to realize just how useless or incorrect most of it was. The ovilus/spirit box in particular was a favorite.
As a person who watched 5 seasons of Supernatural and that was 5 seasons too many, I disliked those references but thankfully there were only a couple.
Sal and Max's relationship wasn't my favorite since they're instalust but also pretty instalove with no real development or clear reason to me why they end up loving each other. I found the spice to be kind of repetitive as well.
What a beautiful way to ring in the new year and a new book goal! This was the last book in this series (loose term) and it was incredible! Max and Sal were so wonderful together, I loved the demon/angel angle, and I LOVED seeing Clark and Wyatt again! @authordelaneyrain are there more coming?! Please say yes!
Sal is the demon, and max is the mate and I adored how max was prickly but loved how Sal was kind but pushed back. Plus the whole reason Sal likes wearing high heels is just too fabulous to miss. Definitely recommend this author and this book. I’ve never read anything by her I didn’t love.
4 stars… This was fun. Definitely on the shorter side but I really enjoyed the paranormal elements. It gave monster romance and a lot of other fun stuff IMO. Sal the heel wearing demon and his mate Max the ghost Hunter were so cute together and I’m of super into threesomes but Sire, Max, and Sal together sounded… nice to say the least.
3/5 on spice. 3/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. Looks like my his author has a lot of these and dragon shifters sounds great!!!
Who knew Max had a thing for holy men commanding demons?
“We’re meant to be, Max. You and me.”
“I do love you, Max, you spicy little shit.”
“Fuck. You.” “Later, darling.”
“Transform,Max. I want some chicken.” “Oh, it’s on, goat-boy.”
I very much enjoyed this book! Definitely going to read the others as well :)
It gave off insta-attraction, but Max was hesitant due to his past. With how short the book is I feel it did a really good job explaining things in that world.
4.5 stars, rounding up - This is my second favorite of hers (behind The Incubus's Mate). Sal is a fantastic character (wearing stiletto heels bc he misses his hooves when in human form and smoking bc he's used to fire and brimstone) and Max is appropriately freaked about finding out he's part angel and exactly what that means when he shifts forms. It also has one of my favorite "how will it fit" situations, where their physiology changes to accommodate (it is the fate, you see)
I also loved that the epilogue was like a side quest! What a fun book.

Meet Max, a grumpy paranormal investigator who is about to learn that ghosts are very real, and a whole host of other things too. And as for why the show's new demonologist is so good at his job, who better to banish demons than a demon? Also apparently he's Max's mate? Max is having a reasonably hard time right now.
If you are familiar with Buzzfeed Unsolved, you may have heard the fan theory that Shane is secretly a demon who follows Ryan on ghost hunts because he thinks it's funny. This story feels like spicy fanfiction of that (let's face it, most fanfiction about them is spicy). I couldn't get over the fact that Sal, a demon, joined a ghost-hunting show! Granted it was to actually send his troublemaking brothers back Home, but his annoyance at the theatrics and lack of belief was pretty funny.
Max is exactly how I would be if I found myself in this situation (I'm starting to embrace my grumpiness). He's surely, exasperated, and a bit overwhelmed. I too would be exasperated with Sal for not telling me everything I needed to know. Opposites definitely attract here, with Sal being comparatively tender to Max's grumpiness.
The man's two moods are grumpy and horny, which adds to the hilarity. For being a novella there is so much spice. *slaps hood* You can pack so much smut into this bad boy! Like all Delaney Rain books, be prepared for some monster f***ing, but also some tender moments too between a couple that works so well together.
“I do love you, Max, you spicy little shit.”
This was lovely and ridiculous. So exactly what I've come to expect from Delaney Rain! 😆 You don't have to read any of her books in order, but if you're looking for a little continuity this story has some ties to The Red Dragon's Mate, although you don't have to read both if dragons aren't your thing (but why wouldn't dragons do it for you? they're dragons?!).
Demon and half Angel goes around doing fake ghost adventures but now suddenly everything is real. So very real. Max the sweet half Angel (starring my Blue):
Sal the delicious Demon (starring my Neil): All artwork made by me. All characters are my own creation.
Everything was perfect: A sassy twink lead of a GAC type para-investigator, a very tall and very committed-to-his-mate Demon, those damned stilettos… BUT then that scene happened where THE CHEATING EX WALKS IN!! Nowhere in the blurb was it mentioned that the cheating scum would show up. Don’t even know what that added to the scene plotwise but because i was already so invested in the characters, i just… rage cried. But finished the book anyways because it was back to good right after that. i did feel very vindicated when Max and Sal professed their love for each other right in front of that dude.
The Fathers are gay and that made me so happy, my heart, OH!
And why did Gordon have to be the one with disability rep? i felt it was a bit negative that such a trash person had to be like that. He’s so infuriating.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
The Demon’s Mate is almost like a continuation of The Red Dragon’s Mate as we continue to see the show Is It Out There? that Clark used to host. This time the host of the show is Max and they are fabricating the evidence needed to get the show more viewers. Max is sort of okay with this as he sees himself more as an actor than an investigator; however, the constant need for overreactions is wearing on him. Enter Sal, the new Demonologist, who seems to be different and quite attractive. After a strange encounter on set, Max is ready to have it out with Sal. What was supposed to be a one night, get it out of your system, stand turns into something different. Max turns into someone different. What will happen next? Will Max get it together? Does Sal stick around?
Oh man! The smexy times in this book are fire!! Also, with the snarkiness from Max, Delaney Rain had me laughing out loud in the airplane, in the airport, and back again as I finished this book while traveling. I can’t decide what I like best - the humor or the instalove. The stories are quick reads, super smexy, like maybe don’t read in public smexy, and just all around great. I can’t wait to keep going.

So, I decided to rate this one up. It was a surprisingly fun read for an erotica with plot sprinkled in. I like me some funny and loyal demon, they are just so deliciously naughty 😋 Their dynamic feels natural and i didn't mind them becoming so tight in such a short span of a time. And Max, you are braver than I, because I sure would freak out suddenly actually knowing that ghosts and demons are real and not just something people made up.
This one surprised me, the way demons/angels are shown here was so unique and fun. Also such a fascinating concept and the plot is wonderful. It's rather steamy, fast paced relationship but so very fitting to Max & Sal who were incredible.
So much banter, teasing and spicy moments between these two. Working together, the TV show aspect is fun and it's hilarious to see Max reactions as starts to be able see what's around him. Sal is not great at easing him into it, just kind of let's Max fall into the realisations as and when they happen but honestly it worked so well.
The plot with the ghosts and demons was fascinating too, it was amazing and I loved all the discussions. Finding out some answers to old murders and the mystery behind the stories in the hotel.
I was so captured by this read, I wish had been longer to have developed more of the plot and finding answers - providing true resolutions for some individuals. Athough I did love how this book overlapped with the Red dragons mate towards the end, rather nice to see those characters again.
Overall it's an entertaining read with plenty of steam and an interesting concept, with a happy ending open towards their future together ♥️

What does a fake paranormal investigator do when a mouthy demonologist becomes a demon in front of him...well you have a lot of lusty sex and find out you may be more than you thought you were. That's what happens to Max when he knocks on Sal's door for a little sex after a tiring day of faking seeing ghosts and demons. Max is a cranky man who wants only a one time sexual fling with not strings. Sal is pretty sure Max is his mate. How Max survives all these new revelations while finding out things he thought fake are real gives the reader an interesting page turner and never fear fellow readers, there is danger afoot too in case you thought you got out of that but we are talking about demons here. An excellent read especially those who love to read about demons. Well done.
DNF at 30%. I'm genuinely shocked at the high rating this short got here. It was very bad. The plot lacked coherence, interest, effort or originality. There's no world building, just information bombs thrown right, left and center. The main characters were unlikable and unbelievable (not due to their supernatural nature; due to their supposedly "human" behavior). They had no chemistry whatsoever. There's no build up of attraction or simmering sexual tension. They just meet, have sex, snark at each other and start all over again. This did not even work as a PWP since the sex scenes were horrible. Cartoonish porn. Or maybe it was just I did not find either MC attractive? not that I have any clue how Max looks like. A hard pass.
I like what an easy read it is despite some plot hiccups, info dumping and kinda flat side characters -- but what made me give it three stars is the scene where Max went from 'my ex really fucked me up by cheating on me' to 'yeah, Sal, your dad is so hot he gave me a boner just by standing by me and I'd totally let him rail me. I love you, baby' in a span of several pages. What? And they say that romance is dead.
Overall, do I regret spending my time reading the book? No, it was a good way to let my brain rot. Could the book be fleshed out better if it took a slower pacing, less horny characters and more worldbuilding? Definitely. I'll give the series another try some time later and hope I will really connect with it.

A sweet story where the discovery of the paranormal includes more than just one thing. It's hard to go into it without giving too much away, but there was a neat little difference in the pairing in this novella as well as some turning of classic thinking in it's head. The main pair had some unusual speed bumps to get past but them working through it, along with input from the cast of characters around them, was a fun read. It was a good continued plot line that they were working the same paranormal show from the Dragon's Mate, so I'm curious if this will show up again!
I struggled with this one. The first few chapters failed to hold my attention until I made myself sit down and read it.
My main issue with this book is all of the s*x. I’m not a prude, but I think every 2 pages was Sal and Max having very loud relations. Also, there will never be a time when a traffic cone is sexy. Why it’s used more than once to describe Sal’s member, I’ll never know.
I loved all the earlier stories from this author, but this one felt chaotic and I seriously got tired of them going at it every scene. The last 25% of the book had an interesting premise, but it’s almost impossible to hang in long enough to get there.
The story of how Max, the second host of Is It Out There? tv show found his fated mate in a demon and also found out interesting things about himself.
You simply can't go wrong with a book that uses word like fu&kstick and gigantadi%k
This author has several stories that are interconnect and in the same time/universe. If you want to read how each of the three hosts of the show got their mates I'd recommend this reading order:
The Red Dragon's Mate The Demon's Mate Then the entire Bigfoot's Mate series (the first book doesn't mention the show, but the second and third do and involve the 3rd host of the series).
This one was a LOT of fun! A 4.5-star read for me, rounded up, and definitely continuing the trend with this author's work of getting better and better with every book she writes. Highly recommended! (Although, while IMHO this one can 100% be read as a standalone, for the epilogue to be enjoyed to the fullest, The Red Dragon's Mate should be read first.)
I liked the book a lot and their was some good world building but i felt like the relationship between the two MC didn’t really develop well. One second he hates him the next he is willing to open up and love him. I so get instalove with mates but i felt with how good everything else was explained and detailed , their relationship could have been build up with more detail.
This might be one of the best books I've ever read..
I'm not good at reviews, but I really love this book. The story is pretty straight forward, not overly complicated and fun enough. The dynamic betwen Max and Sal is perfect, their love for ear other apparent from the start. The lore of their world is just perfect...and their sex even better. 😏 I HOPE for a sequel.
