I think overall this is a very interesting and engaging book for children. Its target age range is 7-9 years old but I would push that up a little higher based on the sheer volume of information and the fact that the illustrations are stylized rather than realistic. I love the graphic design -- it's a beautiful and interesting book to sift through.

A general introduction to evolution is then followed by highlight 2-page spreads of animal adaptations:
-antennae
-eyes
-beaks
-defenses
-legs
-teeth
-feathers
-fins
-fingers
-claws
-colors
-hair
-scales
-wings

Some generalized pages also feature Linnaeus, fast evolution, fossils, and "surprising finds" which includes some information on convergent evolution.

It's important to note that this isn't really honing in on evolution and its specifics (e.g. the science or mechanics). I think there are some better books out there on evolution aimed at this same age range: see When We Became Humans: Our incredible evolutionary journey or When Plants Took Over the Planet: The Amazing Story of Plant Evolution or When Darwin Sailed the Sea: Uncover how Darwin's revolutionary ideas helped change the world.

I wish the title of his book would have been different -- something like Amazing Animal Adaptations. The way the information is presented highlights adaptations. Evolution is NOT the same as adaptation.

I think some people may be dissatisfied with this book after purchasing it, as it has very little content compared to other DK encyclopedias.

The concept of "evolutionary theory" of how the body parts of animals evolved is understandable, but the illustrations are icon-like, making it difficult to understand the explanations.

This is called Evolved, but could just as easily be called adaptations. This is a wonderfully illustrated, informative book on the many different types of adaptations that animals have made, and their purpose. Very colourful and engaging.

A beautiful beginner guide to the concepts of evolution and class. If you're looking to introduce Classification to young students, this is a good book.
