In the dark, distant future, densely populated hive cities rely on ancient technologies and rigid laws in order to survive.
Once a scion of a noble House, Paric Silver arrives on Terra as an unsanctioned psyker, hoping to regain his standing in the Imperium. With the walls of Schola Psykana closing in, he must solve the mystery of a wayward ghost or join it in the Sea of Souls.
Appropriate for Adult and Young Adult readers with a taste for dystopian science fantasy.
Rory Surtain stepped into the world of independent publishing in 2020 and hasn't been able to find his way out since. When he tires of writing, he edits, and when he tires of that, he publishes. Writing is an art and a long learned skill where each book is better than the last.
Surtain resides in Texas, enjoying the gulf coast clouds, the people, and the diversity of spirits and great cuisine.
As with any indie author, your kind participation and candid reviews are always appreciated.
l was going to make the observation that the main character of this series seemed to be coming unglued, but then l found out why! This is another great offering by a talented and prolific indie author.
Psykana is now my favorite of the Hive World Novels! Just wow. It's hard to give it justice without writing a book report! Another binge-worthy story. Thank you!
While not as succinct and fashionable as the previous book, it's still a very good book. It has a tinge of insanity throughout, which honestly I didn't appreciate since it meant an almost entirely different character from the Paric of the previous book, but in the end it was justified. I hope the next book brings the deep personality of the super-spy back. The high-schooler we got is a far cry from the slightly detached, emotionally conflicted yet assertive infiltrator we had in the previous one. Some characters were better developed than others, and I feel like the conclusions to some of their stories just were not very satisfying. The universe is still as ruthless as ever, but it's decidedly more on the young-adult side of the spectrum than the grimdark of the previous book, perhaps due to the choice of characters, although adult themes were not at all kept out of the narrative. I look forward to reading the next book.
Overall the storyline and characters are well developed and written to keep the reader entranced. There is one odd jump in the book that left me turning pages back and forth because it made no sense. Otherwise the book was worth the read.
This is an another excellent sci-fantasy story. High tech and genetic alterations with excellent characters and action. The MC is a very interesting character. On to book 3
