This is a good book, but…
• I feel it sometimes spends too much time on minute details and not enough time on more interesting details - which there are a lot of.
• The pacing of this book is slow. A week or 10 days go by in the whole book. We don’t hear about a major character until 75% of the book. I’m an impatient person and was bored waiting til then.
• The chapters are very short. In fact this book is short. Whatever sequel comes from it should have been in this book. This was literally stopped at the middle mark. Most series books accomplish something, then leave a cliffhanger for the next book. This book literally tells half a story and just stops.

Things I liked:
• the characters, and seeing them mature and get older, seeing what they are doing as time has passed.
• the family relations of the electroclan. Hearing updates on the parents, the business, etc.
• the technology is very interesting and creative.
• there’s a good plot, the pacing is just too slow.

I suppose we’ll have to wait another year to read about the second half of this story. This was good but too short.

It’s been a few years since the Michael Vey series ended after seven books. Now, we have an eighth book and a start to a new series.

It’s been three years since book 7, and the Electroclan are mostly in college. The book opens with them gathering for a reunion, and there they learn of a new threat. This is not super heavy on action, though there is some. It’s a lot of setup, and nothing is resolved. Beware of cliffhangers here! It’s closer to Storm of Lightning in that sense. I love the characters so much and look forward to spending time with them, doing anything.

I cant believe I had to give this 2 stars!! but it was soooo bad. its just the same story with a few minor changes, lets change his name and lets choose a different animal and then copy past the other books and BOOM new story.
I hate Michael now SO MUCH. he thinks he better than everyone, that no one is good enough for him AHHHHHHH he annoys me so much.
jack's decisions at the end were... questionable. but I support him no matter what ❤️
definitely gonna read the next book but I’m not that excited... I hope its better.

I am not sure how this book gets so many starts, it garbage. The series started out good but as the series got to the final books they became filled with useless fluff. Hardly anything moves the story along and it ends up trying to be a horrible romance story.

the first third of the book, nothing happens. its boring conversations with no plot and no movement. This book should not have been written.

If anyone else finishes this book and decides they also need a therapist, I’m here for you..

The parasite! The book that shouldn’t have happened!

For starters, IT SHOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED LET ME REST IN PEACE PLEASE!! JUST MAKE A NEW SERIES IF YOU WANT TO KEEP WRITING!!

At the beginning of the book they still try to play the lonely kid ins school who no one likes. Like that’s just not accurate anymore!! If you drive a 4 million dollar car, YOURE GONNA HAVE FRIENDS! Like people won’t ignore you. Even if they’re fake friends.

The books plot is all mushed together and kinda all over the place. It’s just rough cause he really shouldn’t have wrote another book!! (In this series)

Next! OSTINS MOTHERS NAME IS RUTH!! NOT DOROTHY!! YOU CANT JUST DO THAT!! Also kinda annoying how mommas boy Ostin now only refers to his parents by their first names. Fine whatever. Be disrespectful like that.

Also hahahahah….WHY IS GRACE STILL ALIVE? Yeah. She was in that ranch that got blown up, remember? And Ostins parents…Ostin should be an orphan not a disrespectful brat. 😐🍩🍩

Amash being the villain in the book is kinda lame. He just lacks the depth and all they really say is “oh hatch? I’m worse” that’s it.

Also the rats to bats thing was kinda lame. 🐀☁️☁️🦇🦇🔥🔥🔥

Also we have another uncomfortable situation by Richard!! Why is nichelle dating a guy who’s 10 yrs older. wEiRd!

Also jacks betrayal wasn’t convincing at all.

Coming from someone who was obsessed with the Michael Vey series growing up and still thinks the first few books are amazing: This book is really bad. In my opinion, even worse than books 5 and 7.

The book is so incredibly slow-paced that virtually nothing interesting happens until halfway through the book. And even after that, it still drags, with hardly any actual action. There literally isn't even a climax; not even a small one like the one that was shoehorned into book 5. It just drags on until it ends. The entire book is painfully uneventful. People often exaggerate how much a book could be trimmed down, but seriously, this book is about twice as long as it needed to be for all that happened in it. I have never been more bored reading a Michael Vey book.

Highly disappointed, even though I had my expectations tempered after the train wreck of book 7. I have slightly higher hopes for book 9, since it (probably) won't take Richard Paul Evans the entire first half of a book to set up any real conflict.

I can’t believe this was written by Richard Paul Evans. I read so many of his books including the first 7 in the Michael Vey series. This was the worst by far. I am so disappointed. Absolutely nothing happened then it just ended.

So glad this series is returning! It's a bit cheesy and YA but it's so nostalgic for me and I feel like these characters are just my comfort characters. I'm also glad that the series isn't ending with the #7 book because that was just such a bad way to end the series. Since I didn't reread any of the books before this one, I was struggling a little bit to remember all the different characters' backstories and there were a lot of new characters near the end which got a little confusing, but I'm loving the new plot so far. Hoping Richard Paul Evans can make a new original plot with the next books to come, something that can be completely separated from the first seven books. Anyways 5 stars for this series as always.

When I found out there was an 8th Michael Vey book, on one hand, I was excited. But on the other hand, I was skeptical. The Elgen had been taken care of, Hatch was dead, so I wasn't really sure where the story was going to go in regards to plot. But hey, there was another Michael Vey book out. So I felt obligated to read it because, while some of the books themselves could have been better at some things, the series over all is really good.

I wasn't sure when I'd actually find a copy of the book at the library (or if I would), so I went ahead and read a sample of it. I'm not going to lie, just based off the bit I read, I wasn't sure if the book would be any good. But then when I read the actual book, I was okay with it. The first book started off a little slow pacing wise but the plot definitely picked up from there, so I figured this one would be similar (I was right! It was).

The first bit is honestly reminiscent of Prisoner of Cell 25, with all the "la-di-da, life is normal" stuff. Except, it's different now in a lot of ways. Obviously he's older now, and then there's the whole, "Oh, hey, my Dad isn't actually dead" thing. And they're rich now.

It's also slightly interesting to see where the other Electroclan people are in life when the book starts out. I was somewhat surprised to find that Michael was the only one still in Idaho, but I like that Tara and Taylor became close. And I'm pretty okay with Ian ending up doing what he does.

Honestly, Nichelle was the biggest surprise because of how much she's changed from her snarky, Goth self. Also, the whole thing with her having a boyfriend that "looked 10 years older than her" was a little...wierd to me. It was just kind of a random comment to throw in there and just be a part of the plot, but, I mean, it's not like there haven't been other slightly random things like that in other Michael Vey books.

So I'm willing to overlook that because of the overall plot.

There were also a couple of other things like of that nature that just felt...strange in the book. The part where they got Ian to say what color the lady's underwear us was...odd. I understand his powers and how he can't help that he sees everything but it gave me some wierd vibes. Like, Ian's a cool guy, can we just...leave it there? Anyway, that was one thing that stuck out to me, for good or bad I guess.

And, I won't lie, the whole, "oh, let's see if Michael can tell the twins apart based off of how they kiss" was, okay, it was a little funny, but it also just seemed slightly off. I feel like in this book Richard Paul Evans made it seem like *everyone* has a crush on Michael. I'm not saying Tara does, but, I mean, c'mon, he has a girlfriend. Can we just let other female characters exist without flirting with him, etc.? He's a cool character, don't get me wrong.

I just...first, it was Tessa, okay, sort of. I don't think that ship would have sailed but she was the first other girl to really "come between" him and Taylor. And then there was Cassy. Cassy...not my favorite character, I won't lie. Her power is cool, I suppose, but the offhand way she just kind of goes along with killing the driver in Fall of Hades (at least I think it was Fall of Hades) felt off to me. Also I don't really understand why she's head over heels for Michael. It seems a little forced, honestly, but that's just me. And then there's the lady he helps at the beginning. I just-I mean, like, are all these possible love interests even really necessary? It's basically a given that he and Taylor aren't ever gonna break up (well, okay, they did once, but that was like a life or death thing...)

Back to what I was saying about Cassy. I feel like one thing that gets sort of glossed over in this series is the characters killing people. I understand the position they were in a lot of the time; I just feel like maybe Hatch's death should have impacted Michael especially on a psychological level more than it did. Instead they just make jokes about it (and I'm maybe willing to believe that's the only way they know how to deal with it, because even though he was a terrible guy, he was still human. I just feel like there needs to be more information on that).

And what about all the people in the Resistance that died? They don't get mentioned really ever again, except a select few (e.g. Gervaso). Speaking of dead characters, I thought Grace had died in The Final Spark. It was definitely implied, because I distinctly remember one of Hatch's EGGs asking about her and Hatch basically saying that she didn't matter.

I feel like she was a character that the author could have done more with in the series. Maybe that's why he did the whole Grace uploaded her consciounessness to a computer thing. That was a cool concept, I'll admit. I just am slightly confused as to how she's still alive (and hoping we get more about her character. The quiet ones are always interesting).

Some things don't change, though. Ostin's as annoying and brilliant as ever, and still loves his food (not that I can blame him).

Let's see, what else...

Okay. So, before I go into the second half of the book, when people start to go missing and the plot really starts to pick up, let me talk about Zara. Yeah, remember her? She was the last electric kid to be introduced and was only in one book, because Michael killed her in The Final Spark. I just find it wierd that it doesn't mention her even in the beginning, because Wade has been getting a little blurb there from the beginning, even though he's been, you know, dead for...5 books now.

It's just like she died and the author just forgot she existed. Or something, I'm not really sure, to be honest.

Okay. Now to the action part.

It makes sense that the Chasqui, or whatever their real name is is hiding in the shadows. I like how there's still remnants of the Elgen around. But I like even more how they have been around for longer and have their own plans. It's like one of the characters said at some point, with the Elgen at least they knew what they wanted and why. These guys apparently do not mess around.

(I'm sad Jack joined them. I feel like that's not going to end well for him. I mean, I understand why he did it. The author did a good job of humanizing the Soviergn dude. I forgot his name, sorry.). And I'm honestly okay with the fact that there will be more books later.

I'm definitely glad we got the gang back together (but now with some newer additions, like Quentin. I wish Tanner were still alive, honestly...but oh well). And I like how they went back to Peru, chasing some ghosts or something. I don't know. That's how my brain decided to word it , so I'm just going to stick with it.

And I like the action again! While it was interesting to see how Michael's normal-ish life was with college and all, it wouldn't be a Michael Vey book without the action and the strategizing on plane rides.

I wasn't sure how to feel going into the book, but honestly, overall, it was pretty solid. If...when, I guess, book 9 comes out, I'll be interested to see how this will be continued.

(If there's gonna be more than one book just let Taylor and Michael get married already. I wanna know if their kids would be electric. I've been wondering that for like 2 years now). O(∩_∩)O

I feel like I'm forgetting something. Ah, yes. The electric bats (why does that sound like a band name?). Possible apocalyptic bats, too, if the Chasqui get their way (I'm thinking they're like the Elgen 2.0). And the new electrics (which sounds like a movie). That has the potential to be really interesting. Fingers crossed.

I'm sorry but this book was absolutely awful. Horribly written, absolutely no plot. I only barely managed to finish it under the false hope it would get better.
Michael is sooo stuck up and seems under the impression he's better than everybody, but at least his character developed some over the 3 freaking years between the books. Ostin is exactly the same, no development, as well as most of the other characters. Nichelle just doesn't seem like Nichelle anymore, and like I understand that people change but we already saw the change in her earlier in the series, and the whole point of her character was kind of lost.
I absolutely love the first seven books, but this one kind of ruined the ending. If Richard Paul Evans had wanted to write another one, write it directly after. I love the characters as middle schoolers, and throwing them in a college environment (where they somehow still stayed best friends despite being separated by so far) made me hate them.
For the sake of my joy in life, I'm going to pretend this book doesn't exist.

Just ok. Feels like a money grab. It’s really only half a novel, with a cliffhanger cynically chosen to sell the back half next year, when it is really too short to be a solid story as published. As others have noted, far less action than other books in the series (it’s basically: Michael embarrasses a wife beater, the Electroclan has a reunion, a couple members are abducted, Elgen are succeeded by a new threat, Electroclan defeats new threat in the jungle, To Be Continued). Not much character development or new ground being plowed. And can someone please encourage he author to re-take 10th grade English and be reminded that there are scores of other verbs than can be used to replace the tedium of his incessant use of “said”?
But, I do admit it’s good to be back in the Veyniverse. I just wish this installment didn’t feel like such a cynically forced 2-release story.

This book isn’t too bad but I am still deciding if it should exist. The first seven books are one of my favorite series and fit perfectly together, but this book starts up new conflict and idea’s about Michael’s enemies and friends’ powers that I’m not sure I want to know about. Overall it was a good read, but I’m still not to sure if I think it should exist.

This book was a good way to start back the Vey series and is filled with suspense and a little bit of action. There is not that much action, but there is enough and it is an emotionally fulfilling story with a plot twist that I was not expecting.

In Michael Vey: The Parasite by Richard Paul Evans, the electroclan has disbanded. After defeating Dr Hatch, they decided to live their own lives. Michael has become the son of his thought-to-be-dead dad, who now made him rich. The story begins with wanting to have an electroclan reunion. Unfortunately, a few of their friends have been kidnapped. Michael and the electroclan go on a mission to save them. The basic plot of the story is similar to the other Michael Vey books, which is unfortunate because it would’ve been nice to see a new book. The writing style however is super dramatic and I personally love that so much. Personally, I believe that if a book is written so well that it can trigger emotional responses, it is good. This almost balances out the poor choicing for plot, and makes the book decent. Also the introduction of a new Elgen-like villian is very interesting, as it may repeat the events of some previous books, but it could trigger some new characters to appear and a chance to change the plot. The book also fits into Science fiction, so anyone who likes that should read this book. Overall, if you like drama and science fiction, then you should enjoy this book. But don’t read this until already having read the first few Michael Vey books, otherwise the story may not make sense. While being one of the worst in the Michael Vey series, it is good as a book.

I am a huge Michael Vey fan and an even bigger RPE fan. My husband has a very easy job because he just buys me RPE books for Mother's Day, my Birthday and Christmas! I was very excited last year when RPE announced the book was coming out last October only to be disappointed that it was never released. Then I was excited to see it released this year only to be disappointed by the content of the book.

With all that being said, this book was so slow. It took me over a week to finish. Usually, I can't put RPE books down, but this one I just wasn't that interested in. It felt like the story was unfinished. Typically, there is some adventure that happens and comes to a conclusion while leaving a cliffhanger for the next book/adventure. This book feels like it took so long to set up what was going on and adding a bunch of useless fluff that it didn't have time to start, much less finish, the adventure. Lastly, this book didn't always feel authentic or completely thought out for me. It lacked, a lot.

The majority of the characters are the ones we know and love. It was good to see what they were doing three years after the end of book 7.

I just hope that book 9 will tie things up much better than this book did and go back to the roots of what we all loved about Michael Vey that kept us reading through the first seven books.

The first part of this book kinda sucked. Because it was boring and repetitive and over detailed. All they did was throw a party and go out to eat. In which their food choices were explained every time. This author can do better than that. Michael gets in a little accident and repeats the story of that to everyone he runs into.

The last half was better because it was finally the Vey books we know. Finally something was happening but it still had dull parts of them flying on a plane and sleeping. Almost every chapter they are going to bed. Don't really like when books have to have mostly everyone coupled up.

If he writes another I would hope it just continues into action and not dullery.
