USA Today Bestselling Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish.
She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below.
Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all.
Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world.
The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.

4.5 stars. Talon, the male griffon shifter lead, offers his pest control services to the farm that Rue, the female human lead, is contracted to work on. The farm has contracted human females to bear alien/human hybrids and to work the farm but Rue would prefer to just work the farm - she’s there because her family farm was destroyed on planet. Rue doesn’t realise Talon is a shifter and tells his griffon form all kinds of personal details. When she meets him in human form at a forced blind date/hook up singles event, she encourages him to talk but tells his human form nothing. But shenanigans are ensuing in the background because this farm seems more and more suspect and the way the females are treated doesn’t seem appropriate…

This short story is dual POV, well written, and an interesting alien shifter/human romance. I was amused at Rue’s total relaxation with Talon’s griffon form compared to her tenseness with his human form. I enjoyed her focus on the lifestyle/career she wanted and her determination not to be distracted from it. I appreciated Talon’s laidback approach to life and his willingness to be very active when Rue needed his help and support. I enjoyed the character interactions and relationship development. This story is an interconnected standalone so, whilst the romance was complete, there are overarching plot elements that made more sense because I’d read the first one and the overarching plot finished on a cliffhanger for the next story to solve.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

Talon, under protest, was doing his friend a favor, but fate had in store a surprise for all his effort and his mastery of the Meowls had just set him on the right path. With great enthusiasm and illusions of a better future, sweet, prepared, and optimistic, Rue had signed a contract that promised what she was looking for in life. Many strange things, secrets and mystery made it clear that things were not as had been led to believe and the danger seemed to be imminent. Interesting how Rue's naivety and desire to excel had kept her fixed on the goals she had set for herself in life despite the things that were happening around her. But it's never too late to open your eyes and the griffon seemed to be the answer. Talon caught my attention with the descriptions of his creature, his amusing role with the meowls and the relationship that developed between Rue and the griffon. Anything can be expected from these interesting and intriguing stories that make my imagination run wild and make me laugh with the funny scenes. I can't wait to see Claw's role in all of this.

Rue and Talon meet at the Star Farm. He is there in his shifted form with the hunting meowls he has bred for pest control. He is told that he is forbidden from talking to any of the girls who work on the farm. Rue is assigned to take him to the barns where his flock will center their hunts. She shows up again later crying and Talon lets her calm herself by talking about the loss of her parents and her dreams of running her own farm. But he doesn't talk back. In a strange twist of fate, he sees her again at a speed dating event for Titans in The Colony. She doesn't recognize him in his non-shifted form, but she does immediately recognize that he is a farm boy and seeks out his company. He already wanted to ask her out, but how does he tell her that they already know each other?

Not a long story, so I won't tell you any more. Loved this one as much as Fang and can't wait for Claw. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Short

Rue is just one of the girls at StarFarms, they signed a 10 year contract to have four alien hybrid children to help populate the colony. But everything is not aboveboard, there're secrets the girls don't know about. Including the war with the aliens n the subsequent peace treaty. Rue considers the contract as propaganda n wants to establish her farm before having children.
Talon is a Titan alien, an owl griffin shifter. He runs a pest control business. Going to the farm he's cautioned not to speak or interact with any of the girls. Rue is told to show him where to stash his gear, she talks non-stop while Talon just nods his head or smiles, never saying a word. Not that he doesn't want to but because he promised not to. He finds her utterly fascinating n beautiful, never believing in fated mates, if it's actually true she would his perfect mate.
This is a short story n ends kinda abruptly, not sure what exactly happens with Talon n Rue.

Another cliffhanger!!!! This series should have been all one book but it's 3-4 connected books I'm going to assume. I've read other of Demelza Carlton's alien romance books and they tend to be really short and everything is rushed. This one was better, as it had more of a plot but I really dislike cliffhangers. At least I already borrowed the rest of the series :)

In this book Rue meets Talon, a griffin shifter. She meets him again in his human form at a speed dating event. but doesn't recognize him so when she finds out he's the same person but didn't tell her she gets upset - for about 5 min. The ongoing series will I assume be about these shifters and the women in the farm that Rue is living in. We'll see if it ends up being a good series, but just head into it knowing there is a cliffhanger at the end as to how a war isn't started by Rue leaving the farm she's indentured to.

For some reason, Rue is drawn to the griffin who owns the pest control company who is to get rid of the rats on the farm. She sneaks out night when he is in the shed to talk to him. They are comfortable with each other. When they meet at the speed dating bar, she is drawn as strongly to Talon. She soon comes to realize that this man is the griffin she has become so close to at the farm. Rue and Talon hope for a future together, but it seems there is trouble on the horizon. Great characters, farming, speed dating, and sizzling chemistry between the hero and heroine. Great Read!

A good introduction which ends as a cliffhanger. Talon is a pest control griffon for the Colony. Star Farms has a rat infestation. While there, in his griffon form, he meets Rue, a human farm girl. Later, they meet again at a speed dating event.

While their relationship grows, the nature of Star Farm becomes more apparent. Things are not as they initially seem. But much is left unshared at the end of this story. I hope that it gets cleared up in the series.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Romantic. Steamy. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

I liked book 1 and this one was rather funny in a different way. I thought Rue was a riot and how she gets to know Talon was a hoot. I just thought this one was a quick, funny story with good characters that basically takes place at the same time as the first. And ends with a bang that made me laugh and also groan that I have to wait for the next one to see what trouble is coming next. Enjoyed this light, quirky hot read.

Talon is an alien griffon shifter, who helps the Colony with pest control, he meets a human woman (Rue) who intrigues him. Will she accept both his griffon and human like sides? Rue works hard at Star Farm, and she dreams of owning her own farm. Can these two find their happiness? Or will it cause too much trouble? I loved Talon and Rue's story, and look forward to finding out what happens next.

I received this book as an ARC and am leaving my honest review. Rue is in for unexpected surprises when she leads a griffin and his meowls to a hay shed to eradicate a rat infestation. Drawn to the griffin she sneaks out every evening to spend the night cuddled under soft wings. But imagine her surprise when she meets Talon at a date night her colony hosted. Wanting to know him more leads to shock, then recognition, then the hottest night of her life. But now, warning alarms have sounded and danger is looming. What will they do? Be prepared to read cover to cover and still want more

Bird Banging

Wow! This book DID NOT just end in a crazy cliffhanger!! OMG Ms. Carlton, that was cold. The book was just in a good, steamy part and Claw calls with the bombshell, I was just outdone. I loved Rue and Talon, their romance was so sweet with the slow buildup. After reading Fang and now Talon, I hope Claw explains things more in his book.

Rue, a Human, is fascinated with Talon, a Titan griffon shifter, who oversees a crew of meowls (cat-owl hybrids that hunt rats). They turn out to be forbidden fated mates but ignore the forbidden as they enjoy an over-the-top, non-stop, hot orgasmic encounter. Unfortunately, their forbidden love could cause a war. To be continued in “Claw”.

A hot sexy story on the planet Altan where girls had to work in a farm as Rue did. Donna was in charge and all girls had to go to a meet and greet for a rendezvous with an alien. Rue had never saw an alien but Donna had hired Talon and his meowls to catch rats. Rue got to be friends with Talon. The story continues with a cliffhanger.

shapeshifter aliens!

The aliens aren’t the bad guys! Especially a griffon shifter named Talon. What a sweetie. And his meowls that hunt and kill vermin. Then there’s human Rue who is not in a good place, trying to find her way through the odd rules that control her life. All of this is fantastic but boy do I dislike cliffhangers!

This was a sweetly romantic but steamy small town Beauty-and-the-Beast retelling in space. I quite enjoyed this - particularly the hook at the end. What does the author have in mind for Claw?

A fun, quick read, short story featuring an alien gryphon and speed dating. Rue draws close to and is comfortable with Talon but agrees to go on a speed dating event. Surprise, surprise... Talon just happens to be there. Can this unexpected happenstance mean more for them then they thought?

Another great short read!

The continuation of the story that started in "Fang". I liked how he is a shape shifter and she doesn't realize who he is when she meets him in his human form.
A slower burn than the first one, and just as wonderful to read.

Cool story plot

I liked the idea of the of an alien griffon shifter and his rat catchers sound cool too. The idea that the girls have to have 4 babies before they fulfill their contract is a little creepy though.

2.75 stars rounded up.
It wasn't bad, but the ending left too much in the air. Nothing is solved, just the opposite, there are more problems, and the next book doesn't really solve any of them in a satisfying way.

I’m a little confused as to how the first book ends and this one doesn’t seem to be at the same spot. There is a lot of overlap and you get to see the same scenes from different points of view.

Rue is a human learning about farming in space.
Talon is an interesting alien mix of owl and griffon. He’s into pest control for credits. Aliens, speed dating and literal wingmen…it’s a trip.

Ruru is the perfect woman for Talon. If only she saw him as a man and not just a beast. This story has an entertaining mix of lovable characters, shady villains, drama, intrigue, and steam!

Talon

Major cliffhanger and young women being told one thing and not what was real. There is a sweet romance underlining this story.
