Sheryl Carpenter joined the Goldsboro Police Department three years ago when she returned home after nearly a decade in Chicago. Quiet and peaceful Goldsboro was precisely what she needed. Nothing exciting ever happened until trouble spiked last summer when Mayor Nellie died. Now, a year later, the Sheriff has asked Sheryl to reinvestigate the fire at Mr. Henry's house, which raises her suspicions. Unfortunately, her investigation puts her right in the path of Ricky Howard, Goldsboro's resident, too sexy bad boy. Ricky Howard hasn't been in trouble in years, but he can't shake his bad-boy reputation. He also harbors some resentment toward the police, which is why his attraction to Deputy Sheryl Carpenter is seriously unwelcome. When his search for Goldsboro's "rightful mayor" forces him to work closely with Deputy Carpenter, he fights his growing desire for her. Even as the mysterious Derek Hastings returns to Goldsboro and threatens the only home Ricky has ever known.

The second of the novels is the recently published Slave Ship Rising (2017). She is currently preparing to publish the first book in her butt-kicking heroine series.
The 4th book in the series was just as good as the first 3. There wasn't any magic, but the fifth book will probably make up for that. Let's see what happens next!!
I love reading about Goldsboro. The history of its beginnings. I love the blend of our past, mixed with magic. I'm so happy and proud, to read these stories. L.L. Farmer is a master story teller and i can not wait to read more of whatever comes next.
This was a good part of the series. My only issue was the lack of magic in this one. The others were so full of magic, this was basically a love story and we still don’t know who the next Mayor is. But I still love this body of work and I still enjoyed this especially Isis. I feel like she should be the star of the book.
Good read but not as suspenseful or spellbinding as the first three in the series. This one is mostly a love story with a mild mystery. It did not keep my attention and took me longer to complete because I would lose interest. Nevertheless, the curiosity of solving the mystery kept me going.
