The war in Macedonia is over for Varro, Falco, and Curio, citizen-soldiers who answered Rome's call to arms as boys and grew into battle-hardened men. They join the Legion's triumphant return and enjoy thanksgiving celebrations for their great victory.

But Varro carries a secret with him, and it will change all their lives. The war might be over, but the demands of Rome are endless.

He accepts an assignment to serve the King of Numidia, a new country forged from the ashes of the Second Punic War. A command of rabble is assigned to him, and he has as much trouble fighting his own men as his actual enemies. He struggles to lead his band of raiders, while a fearsome enemy he believes long dead draws closer -- seeking bloody vengeance.

Jerry grew up in a snowy New England town, then decided to move to an arid desert town. Along the way, he got married and started a family.

Jerry has been writing most of his life. He loves fast-paced, pithy stories, hopefully with a few good sword fights sprinkled within.

A writer, gaming geek, and corporate flunky, Jerry spends most of his time in cubeville. He dreams of leaving it behind one day.

Varro goes it alone in an inhospitable environment of a people he does not understand, & an unforgiving land, where warfare is on horseback with guerrilla tactics.
One of the most exciting, thrilling, & nearly hopeless adventures Varro has endured. Luckily, his friends Falcon & Curio find him in time, but not before almost losing a captured Falco.
Baku is delivered by Varro, who has become Baku’s protegè of sorts, & I expect an alliance, a friendship of great worth has been forged between the two.
GREAT storytelling!

good book but needs qualified editor

Big fan of this series, but seems to me that it was rushed to release without proper editing. The grammatical errors and spelling mistakes (plus improper word usages) are quite frustrating as they interrupt the quality of the story. I truly hope that Book 8 will not suffer the same shortcomings. Once again, good story, just needs proper edits.

Marvelous…

…from an action standpoint, as well as definitively identifying that your closest (real) friends can be your salvation.

There are many spelling, word usage and grammatical errors (using a dumb AI program?) but they were only mildly distracting.

Thus I was compelled to give this novel a very rare 5th star (in my history).

Experience is the best teacher

This was a compelling story of treachery and greed. The hero showed character plus a sense of duty and a knack for getting out of trouble. This book was well written and enjoyable.

Learning about the Tribes was interesting

Action from beginning to end. The historical aspect was fascinating. The battles and response of the men surprised me. The Roman Leadership is amazing.
